Clannad

The main female character of both Clannad and Kimi ni Todoke have the same "Do my best" personality. In that sense, the main male characters are also alike. Okazaki (from Clannad) and Kazehaya (from Kimi ni Todoke) both aid the main female characters into more interactions with people and help the story develop into a deep plot. I enjoyed both anime and hope to see more like it.

If you liked the NagisaXTomoya storyline in Clannad, then I'm sure you'll like Kimi ni Todoke. Unlike many series, while Kimi ni Todoke is a romance, the two leads' relationship progresses slowly, making it an absolutely adorable romance for those who love characters pining after each other.

Both anime take place in a high school setting, and both have emotional ups and downs for the mean characters. Both series contain a bit of romance, though Kimi ni Todoke focuses more on the romance aspect than Clannad.

Whilst the two might initially seem incredibly different, there are reasons why a fan of one will likely enjoy the other, putting the largely different art styles and target demographics aside.

Both shows have a wide and varied supporting cast accompanying the main couple (which, in both shows, consists of a shy girl and a more confident boy) and these supporting characters get their own spotlight arcs in both series. In both Clannad and Kimi ni Todoke, there is a big focus not only on romance, but themes like friendship and family, too.

They both also have a mixture of comedic and dramatic elements, although Clannad places a lot more focus on the latter than Kimi ni Todoke usually does.

It's also notable that both series offer a continuation regarding the couple's lives after they get together (if you should choose to watch Clannad's After Story or read Kimi ni Todoke's manga), something rarely seen in romantic anime/manga. read more

Kimi ni todoke and Clannad both have a warm comedy aura but at the same time it can really make you cry but still laugh. Both animes end with satisfaction, kinda like you want it to. They both focus on romance and have friends that have their own problems and misunderstandings.

Love has no boundaries. Clannad and Kimi Ni Todoke follow misunderstood MCs trying to live a normal school life, only to start getting to know a more noticeable figure.

Clannad has a misplaced Nagisa end up getting to know a poorly reputed Tomoya. Kimi ni Todoke has a misunderstood Sawako end up getting to know a highly well known Kazehaya.

Both are great romance drama with Clannad featuring comedy than that of Kimi Ni Todoke.

Both are romance harem anime with a guy and five girls and both have a school setting. The main male characters are both similar as well. Shuffle! is more fantasy compared to Clannad's mostly realistic story, with the exception of one mostly supernatural arc.

The way both anime start off driven mainly by humour and go onto become emotionally charged is very similar. Both main characters help the female cast grow and develop. Clannad is better and deeper, especially when you include the afterstory. So if you liked Shuffle, I reckon you'll love Clannad. If you found Clannad too emotional, and didn't like the family elements of the show, want something which focuses more on romance, and like cartoon boobs, then Shuffle's definitely for you.

Clannad and Shuffle are both Romance/Harem anime where the mc actually chooses a girl. Both have their own small super natural twists, and if you've seen Clannad you'll notice some similarities between characters more towards the end & vise versa.

Clannad and Shuffle! are laced with comedy and drama...the MC of each respected series finds himself surrounded with girls. haremed by girls who like him and he chooses the female best friend who gets sick alot.    Nagisa ( is like both Asa and Kaede) she's like kaede because the MC eventually lives together with her  even before he makes a romantic decision and also she's his home girl..like asa, nagisa has been the female  best friend figure to him and ultimately became the one he chooses   and also like asa she gets sick alot. and she has a sweet gentle mom who treats the mc well.  the dad though is like sia's dad..
tomoyo and kyou are also like asa because well they are the tomboys...kotomi is like nerine because she  is soft spoken...ryou is like sia because of having the same english dub voice actress...fuko is like mayumi because she's one of the few girls that hang around the mc who doesn't have a crush on him but rather provides the fans some comic relief....unlike shuffle!, Clannad is clean. it's like the non ecchi version of shuffle!..it's more wholesome than shuffle! read more

Both are slice of life stories involving the main male character meeting a female character who wants to start a school club of their own. The stories then follow the characters in the story trying to find members for their club and the different tasks they face in the club.

Both are certainly Kyoto Animations best animes ever made. Both have very intriguing, unique, and memorable main characters. Both are garbled with several varying genres but are remarkably well balanced together and articulate. The final conclusions for both series in its later adaptions are impressive and outstanding so PLEASE remain resolute and continue on to their respective sequels. You won't want to miss their conclusions, trust me.

Two of the most beloved classics ! With over the top plot that will make your parents say " Why are you crying?" Both series want you to beg more, and more ! Life isn't easy of the main characters and both are carefree of their lives.

They both take place in high school, and in both of the series, the two protagonists make a club at the school. However, in Clannad, the characters help to solve people's problems. In The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, they cause them. They were both also produced by the same studio, and there's noticeable similarities in the animation. They're also both hilarious, they both have romance, and they'll both probably make you cry.

Two somewhat similar, serious male protagonists, find themselves suddenly surrounded by a cast of rather weird people with which they live their school life and experience dozens of things. Clannad and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu feel similar: nostalgic, comedic, but also capable of giving you some sense of melancholy at times.

both are beautiful series with sad moments and tear jerking endings. Both series hold a lot of meaning in them and depending on what kind of person you are, these series can really touch your heart. There are really good life lessons that can actually be learned from both of these series. Both anime contain beautiful soundtracks and really good development for its characters, especially its main male characters. While Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso contains more humor than Clannad, it still does the job well of hitting you with feels. I must warn you that if you are one that hates slow pacing, then I highly suggest that you avoid both of these anime as both of them are rather slow paced. However in my opinion, that's the beauty of these two series and if you like the pacing of Clannad, then most likely you'll enjoy the pacing of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. Overall, both series deserve a chance and who knows, it could be life-changing for you. But then again, that's just my opinion. read more

The similarities are really obvious, so you don't need many hints for this: It's the same romance story but they aren't musicians, they are students. The story is just about making the main characters(Kousei-Shigatsu, Nagisa-Clannad) pursue their dreams and their passions.

Two animes with very different plots which however share a lot of similarities; comedy-ladden stories with very sad backdrops, emotional soundtracks and a great focus on character development. The plot in these animes is thick and the writing is simply great, with things making more and more sense as everything develops. The characters all feel relatable and lovable, each of them have their own issues, hopes and aspirations, giving both animes great depth.

Fans of emotionally impactful stories will both love animes, definitely.

Both of these anime are Slice of Life anime. In a way both of these anime are similar in the sense that they both are extremely fun and entertaining to watch. Those who loved Clannad/Clannad After Story will fall in love with Your Lie in April

Like Clannad, Your Lie In April contains emotional and dramatic scenes that'll tug at fans' heartstrings. The characters in both series develop in time, and Your Lie In April's sound-track is as breathtaking as Clannad's. If one loved Clannad, then Your Lie In April's a must-watch.

At first, it looks like a school slice of life with a bit of romance and harem, but in the end it ends up beind SO much more than that. Both reach a certain depth in predestined relationships, even if the show doesn't focus on it.

well, the biggest similarity between that TV series is that both of them are treating about *school times*, so you know - in general school, friends, boyfriends&girlfriends, first love, family, intrests etc. 

but in my opinion 'Myself;Yourself' has a more mature attitude to these issues and shows the life of teenagers which is not always as colorful as somebody might think.That anime have a deep insight into serious youth's problems, such as difficult past or family conflicts, which are sometimes downgraded by other productions. The plot stays in your mind and makes you think. moreover, it's well-done and watching is a great pleasure! I would recommend it for everybody - the anime has only 13 episodes, but it's really worth watching. I guess that's currently my fav ;)

 'Clannad' was more like a pure entertainment for me - makes you really relaxed ;)! the biggest advantage of that series is a great sense of humour - it really makes you laugh outloud at times ^_- Dialogues are great and characteres very nice, especially Tomoya-kun ^^.   but if you are  'anime obsessed ' and usually prefer sth which forces  you to think about various issues , you may be disappointed and bored at times.   read more

Slice of life, Romance mixed with side stories for each individual characters. Both animes are tear tearjerkers and very sweet dramas, Myself, Yourself has a much happier ending though.

Both are high school stories from the 2000s with the good ole' repeating theme of appearing at first as romance stories, but they're actually giant past tragedy stories that are like huge blisters on the feet that just pop one by one.

During the shows, the characters begin to reveal their awful pasts and tragedies.

Both of them seem to be made from simulation game dating, although Amagami SS is an original work, but this is a game dating concept and Clannad is the king of game dating.  Another similarity is that they have incredible ending, even married (sorry if spoilers)

Building relationships. Amagami SS and Clannad follow a student who spends their time building relationships, mostly with other females.

While Amagami SS is a offers slow and sweet stories with Junichi and the heroine of the arc, Clannad uses Tomoya and Nagisa to create plots where they help the heroine in need at the time.

Though both anime are sweet stories to see. Clannad is more dramatic and comedic than Amagami SS.

The beginning. The start to what is the greatest journey of real life I have seen in anime, our protagonists, of varied backgrounds, one troubled, the other independent, come across a fateful encounter that would be the very cause of life-changing events.

Clannad and FB dive into what we choose to do in others lives and where we decide to play ourselves in that stand. With both taking our unconventional protagonists on a trip to the different lives people live and the ongoing problems that occur with those close yet far in a school world.

Genuinely some of the best series I have seen ever in this medium, this is something you honestly don't want to miss out on, the drama, the romance, the lucidity. Simply a godsend.

Romance! Character Development! A lot of crying!

These series are built on the idea of trying to make the world a better place for others and throughout this a lot of crying would be had by the watcher. Both Tomoya and Tohru Honda, make sacrifices and experience significant hardships throughout the series in order to try and other peoples lives better.

Different execution, but the same purpose. Kanon and Clannad, transmitted in its chapters the constant struggle of our characters to move forward, but they hide a past, a past of torment in their lives . We can appreciate the "magic" that spreads through the episodes, noting that here nothing is impossible, everything can happen. They also show us something like a space for each girl can tell her story, where our protagonist will always see involved, trying that they can achieve happiness they desire.

both clannad and kanon are animes that will at 100% rate bring tears to you, unless you are some kind of monster :D
In kanon you will like cry in every 3-4 episodes while in clannad you will also laugh thats the only diference

Nagisa in clannad and Tohru in fruits basket are incredibly similar. They're both sweet, naive, and caring. The main guys in both animes have a dark past that haunts them and in order to overcome it, the need someone to accept them. They're both really funny too.

Clannad and Fruits Basket go hand and hand with many similarities. When I watched both, it definitely reminded me of one and the other. Let's break this down, shall we?

First, both series are lighthearted and contains supernatural themes. The main female protagonist is a kind young girl who doesn't want to hurt those around her. She later meets other characters who she forms valuable bonds with.

Secondly, series have a lot of drama and comedy (more so in Clannad). They also have their touching moments. 

Third, both series takes place a school setting and focuses on other characters at times although the key relationship involves the main girl in both titles. They enjoy life and helping others while valuing their own experiences. 

Both series of course has a touch of romance in it that is later explored in their works. read more

I'm not quite sure why Clannad reminded me so much of this anime.  I guess it's just because of the friendship aspect and the kind of ditsy female as one of the main characters that is trying her best to live life to the fullest.  The stories are pretty different in where they end up going and Clannad is known as one of the saddest anime(but don't strike it down, you may be surprised) but it is also an amazing one to watch.

Though the world of the supernatural does not play as large of a role in Clannad (its sequel uses it more) as it does in Bakemonogatari, the essence of it is still there. Also, both male protagonists have profound desires to save any girls they meet that are in trouble. Koyomi and Tomoya have similar personality types, both being cynical yet caring.

Bakemonogatari reminded me of a mix of Clannad and Petite Cossete.
Like Clannad, Bakemono has a spiritual side as well as having humor even in the most serious of scenes. Both had wonderful animation, though they both definitely have they're own styles, they're both beautifully animated in they're own right.
Both male protagonist remind me of each other, funny, serious, and surrounded by women of all ages. On that note, Bakemono is far more explicit than Clannad which I find to be an unnecessary addition to an otherwise nice anime.
Overall, if Bakemono had taken a few more cues from Clannad, it would have been much better. But as it is, I think a fan of Bakemonogatari would appreciate Clannad and visa-versa.
P.S. The fact that I am even comparing Bakemono to my favorite anime of all time means that it is definitely at least worth thinking about watching. read more

IF you liked Clannad, the first which which isnt as sad :s , then you most likely will like Bakemonogatari, it has just a scratch of action which is good, but essentially some episodes are about nothing but talking. Whats funny is that its actually interesting and not boring, funny as well which is something that Clannad has, although i doubt you will be crying in this one. Even so, this is one of those underrated but goddamn good anime's.

Two stories that mix love, drama, comedy and fantasy and turn it into:
- The carefree guy who knows a girl who is in trouble. Together they will know their weaknesses and strengths.
- Every girl that approaches the boy, has some problem, which has changed his life remarkably. Where each one of them will search together with the boy how to solve it.

These animes are filled with countless good moments, where when you believe that nothing happens, you will be surprised when everything explodes in your face, feelings that each character surrounds when trying to achieve the happiness they desire.

One guy, many girls, and you go through the stories of each of the girls. The vibe is also similar where not everything is play by play. It has that jumpy kind of storytelling that leaves you wonderous about everything that happens. The difference between the two shows is that Clannad is more fluffy cute and Bakemonogatari is more mystery psychological, but both are still kind of highschool slice of life.

There is actual emotional heaviness, a development in the characters and a focused history.

If you are interested in dramatic anime, you should watch this title.

The protagonists are very much alike. Especially their train of thought. And they are both surrounded by a fair amount of very cute and moé girls.
Both give off the same vibes as they are very lighthearted and comedical but some of the characters also has some interesting backgrounds.

Do you like inflicting hurt on yourself? Are you a masocist? Yes? Then you will love these two anime.

Prepare for the train ride of dispair as you watch these two series. You'll find yourself reaching for your phone and calling those who mean the most to you.

Clannad is a school based anime, with a second season set after school (Clannad: After story). It tells of a guy who falls in love with a girl, solves issues for other girls, abandons someone close to him and emotionally abuses his alcaholic father. All the while, his friends slowly start to abandon him. Going their seperate ways until the point where they feel emotionally obligated to see him, because of the death of their mutual friend, who was their reason for talking to each other. (Did try not to spoil anything with that) In the end the anime does its utmost to cheer you up with what could be considered a gigantic copout, a utterly confusing ending, or if you are a bit of an oddball, it could even be seen as a good ending.

Plastic memories tells of a guy who cannot get a real girlfriend, so within two months he falls in love with his robotic work partner, who he then has to terminate (That isn't a spoiler, since it is mentioned on the first episode). Along the way you will watch as these humans team up with robots to help terminate the lives of children, who have done absolutely nothing wrong. You'll find yourself crying as you watch the murder of innocents who were destined to become wandering psycopaths, thinking to yourself "Why on earth would they even make these things?".

So watch as these two really pathetic guys score big, all so that in the end they can go back to square one. However, on the way you must remember that box of tissues you was given, for you'll be needing it. read more

Both series have one main male protagonist surrounded by various girls of conflicting personalities. Family issues are part of the plot bringing emotions and drama. Additionally, both MC are considered to have better self control than typical harem leads; not freaking out completely during typical "ecchi" scenes. Both anime(s) also contain plenty of comedy.

in both there are real ups and downs that you could relate with your own lives
and here when a person normally fails, its not that as if they recover quickly like in most anime..they go through all the phases of depression and stuff
some times it may even make you cry
after watching it you will feel

Pet of Sakurasou is very similar to Clannad they are both Slice of life anime.They both take you on emotional roller coasters and how sometimes life isn't always fair. Clannad takes you on the emotional roller coaster more often then Pet of Sakurasou. Clannad is also longer than Pet of Sakurasou if you take into consideration that Clannad has two seasons of at 23 episodes making it 46 episodes long. If you haven't watched either of these you might want to take a look pet of Sakurasou to see if you like this type of show because its shorter than Clannad. I personally like both of them, i would give Pet of Sakurasou an 8/10 in the category of slice of life  and Clannad a 9.5/10 in the slice of life category. read more

Supporting a friend. Sakurasou and Clanand both follow an odd MCs paired up with another regular, with some quirks, MC. The time these pairs spend with one another getting to know each other and just having fun, creating turning into a memorable journey. 

Sakurasou follows abnormal cat-loving Sorata paired up with eccentric Shiina on their journey to find out a path for what they would love to do. Clannad is about delinquent Tomoya and rejected Nagisa helping out others with their personal issues.

Both are great rom-coms with a good amount of drama.

The Anime's genre is different, however I find many of main characters quite similiar in both of animes.  (Kagami would be clannad's Kyou, Tsukasa=Ryou, Konata=Fuko).  I can quite assure that if viewers enjoyed Lucky Star's Characters, they surely would enjoy/appreciate Clannad and It's Characters.

Lucky Star and Clannad are very alike cause they're mostly about humor :) But Clannad WILL MAKE YOU CRY (Warning just for you people :) ). And if you didn't cry, that means you either have no heart, or you didn't watch it all the way through. ._.

Ok, so back to where we were, Clannad also has characters that are similiar to Lucky Star characters, not exactly like them, but similiar at least ^_^ This anime also features romance, which is something that Lucky Star didn't feature (Note: This is the stuff that will make you cry :) ). Well, Clannad is mostly a comedy anime, and the romance parts aren't like, all the sappy and corny ones also. So it's a really good anime for those people that want some laughs.

Oh, and also for those romance lovers, finish the first season and move onto the second season, a bit more romance for you. :) (And yeah, I know this is "recommending" a sequel, but I didn't make a whole new recommendation for it, so yeah :) )

They're quite different from one another. Lucky Star will make you laugh while Clannad will make you laugh and cry :) Oh and Lucky Star characters have similar looking characters in Clannad. Kagami - Kyou, Tsukasa - Ryou and Konata - Fuko

Humorous slice-of-life, similar-looking characters with similar backstories, and perking your happiness up with a salting of sadness.

Don't expect them to be the same, though. Clannad's got the strong points in terms of anime, but Lucky Star is really about otaku(s).

Both are pretty focused on Romance, Drama and School. Clannad has supernatural elements while True Tears doesn't.
Both have a lot of girls are one guy as the focus to the story.
Might even go as far as saying "True Tears" could be a "If Clannad had no supernatural theme to it, it would be..."
Both male protagonists are delinquents, or at least labelled as one and end up attempting to help girls with their problems, both with interesting results.
Both are PG-13

-Both are about adolescent love/love conflicts, and are structured with multiple, emotion-evoking arcs. However, Clannad is a tad more emotional/sad at times.

-Both give off a fairly "happy" or "nostalgic feeling", making the show very fun and enjoyable to watch.

-Both have very beautiful and fluid artwork that is similar to one another.

Both have a main character who's actions have great impact on the storyline(which you would expect from a main character lol) also  they have similar characteristics. The characters are Nagisa in Clannad and Haruka in KNE(Kimi ga Nozomu Eien). Though at first they seem to be one of the weaker characters (in terms of both physical and mental strength), both become stronger as the story develops.
Both of the charcters have a soulmate which they love and believe in Tomoya in Nagisa's case and Takayuki in Haruka's case. These soulmates do not show any affection for their so called counter parts in the series, however as the story develops affection grows beyond measurement.
Both of the series seem to be dull, however as the storyline progresses both are really interessting and worth watching till the very end.
Last and final simularity between the two is that they are both based on the love between the main character and her soulmate (though some might disagree in the case of KNE, I will not address any of this because it would lead to spoilers).

To summarize all of this and give you a tip as well. In my opinion Clannad and KNE are so much alike that if you like Clannad you will surely like KNE (perhaps even more then Clannad, like I do). However I would like to stress anyone to not watch the series at the same time for you might mix the storylines a bit (as I did on more then one occasion).

I hope that you enjoy both of the series if you plan on watching them. read more

Strawberry Panic and Clannad... both drama, romance and school in their genre, yet their only difference being Clannad having a sequel and Strawberry Panic being a yuri.

I think if you liked one of these, you will probably like the other one aswell. At least you could give it a try, right?

Let's play the both game! Both:
Are based on video novel games
Are in the top 5 rated shows on the site (I'm talking about after story but that's Clannad to)
Are psuedo harems where the winner is pretty much clear from the beginning
Feature some altered timeline mumbo jumbo (Although in very different ways)
Have a slow start but likeable characters that suck you in

The difference starts to become clear after you've gotten to know the characters, these are very different series in almost every way. The main difference is that while Steins;Gate makes you feel miserable and very good and everything inbetween it does more of making you feel good and being funny than it does making you feel miserable. Clannad is basically that but inverted, most people cry when they watch Clannad but that same group of people would think of Steins;Gate as a sort of action film (you feel like everything will work out). That does not detract from the fact that both series are excellent in their own way and definitely a must watch for a true anime fan. read more

SoL, comedy, slightly harem, time-travelling.
The MC has a male friend which isn't competition, but closer to comic relief.
The MC is quite interesting, has entertaining dialogues and interactions with other characters.
He starts off in a light-hearted SoL, which evolves into more serious drama.
Something happens to one of the protagonists, which affects the MC, but resets occur.
There is romance, which puts it above simple harem.
There is also a similar plot-line about a father who's lost very important breakthrough physics papers about alternate dimensions in a plane accident, which comes into play later on.

Though the differences may seem small at first, there is a similar atmosphere about them. Steins;Gate is essentially a slice of life anime in the disguise of a science fiction thriller. There are multiple episodes that, from the eyes of an outside viewer, would seem like filler added to pad out the plot; however, it becomes clear to one who is watching how necessary each episode is to tie the plot together. Multiple episodes towards the end of the series feel like they were yanked out of the end of a Clannad arc. Likewise, each miniature arc in Clannad is needed to reach the end. Steins;Gate essentially attempts to bridge slice of life with science fiction, while focusing on the sci-fi. Clannad works similarly but instead focuses on the slice of life, where the supernatural elements only come together at the very end.

Ultimately, though, the main similarities are the boundless, witty humor driven by each series' respective loveable male protagonist, his interactions with the people around him, how it is contrasted with a deeply moving drama, and the inevitable romance that sprouts from it. read more

- Both are slice of life romance with a school theme.
-Both have male leads with girls that like him but give up on him after he chooses to go out with the female lead.
-Both have a female lead who work at a bakery.
-Both have a male lead with a perverted friend.

School relationships, mystery, and romance are central themes in both. The strange occurrence of memory loss or amnesia is present in both as key plot devices, along with characters whose pasts conceal secrets. The way both male protagonists go to great lengths to help the female characters in respective series with so much effort is very similar. Also the way the main female characters in both are alone and are first approached by the male protagonist and helps them to make friends is very similar.

Both series have good ships, both couples start getting close in a similar fashion.  The only difference is that Horimiya,  the ship sets sail much earlier in comparison to Clannad, and ofc their stories are not exactly the same. 
These are good series if you're looking for a romance,  slice of life that doesnt unnecessarily play around and tease you for no reason.

I know they aren't very similiar, but both are really beautiful. 
Main girl characters, Rena and Nagisa are very similiar (the same seiyuu, brown hair, and they are so cute!).
And Higurashi and Clannad shows happy and funny moments and sad moments too.
All girls in both series looks happy, but they have some sad memories too.

Clannad and Rewrite were both written by Key and had similar male main characters, the story unfolds around the interaction of the MC with the the girls around him while he becomes closer to them. These two series have a similar art and story lines, filled with romance, comedy and drama.

The little sister of the main character from Mashiroiro is similar to Furukawa Nagisa from Clannad. They both appears to be weak but works hard and are very resilient, not to mention cute.

The original soundtracks from both the series are very alike.

The atmosphere at the school is quite the same too.

Both are originated from Visual Novel.

The calm and smooth going plot of both anime are very appealing to watch.

Both Clannad and 5 Centimeters per second are romance anime. Both have a similar sad atmosphere. Both have themes of magic and destiny in it.  Clannad has funny moments when 5 centimeter per second doesn't. Both are enjoyable. Both are masterpieces. If you watched one and liked it try the other out as you might like it as well! ^W^

I only recommend these two animes because of one thing.
Both animes are emotional rollercoasters!
They both include real emotions that shine in all the characters.
They also have great songs that people will listen to again and again.

However:
Clannad is a supernatural school life anime that solves life issues 
While, Death Parade is a psychological mystery anime filled with games after death.

If you are looking for two great WHOLESOME anime look no farther! Hanasaku Iroha and Clannad (with After Story) are similar in the fashion of the main characters in each series (Ohana and Tomoya) are put in situations that create their growth from child to adult, while showing their progression through friendships, family and relationships. Both have to deal with the struggle of finding their own paths due to being raised by single parent who aren't necessarily the best guardian and end up finding a different place to call home. They both end up finding new people to look up to for guidance. With a dash of comedy along with realistic trials and tribulations, that you will feel the bonds and voids they create within the series.  read more

Aria the Animation has a feel in which relaxes the viewer.  Both Aria and Clannad both give away that impression.  Even though Clannad and Aria have different ideas, the given feeling of calm is the same, if you liked aria, and its sequels, you will probably like clannad

They are both romance with a bit of another genre. The romance is heart warming and when it seems like they are going to end there is a bit more. I feel that at times I lost a little interest in Clannad but the ending made up for it. I recommend the Dub for The Girl who leapt through time (if you like dubs that is) but I don't recommend the dub at all for Clannad (try to watch sub, you could probably get though Clannad on dub but once you get to After Story the dubbing cast gets worse).

Similarities:
+ Both have "family" as a large theme of the show
+ Some of the characters have poor relationships with their parents and some have great relationships
+ School aspect (though Clannad is high school and Usagi Drop is preschool/first grade)
+ The kids get sick, go through normal growing pains, and their is a good mix of comedy and drama involved with the great characters and their interractions

Differences:
- Clannad is more of a harem-style show from the perspective of a high school boy and is shounen whereas Usagi Drop is from the perspective of 30 year old man and is josei
- Clannad focuses on much more than just the idea of a family and has more dramatic and romantic moments than the more lighthearted Usagi Drop read more

H2O: Footprints in the Sand addpermalink

H20 is a lower quality version of Clannad. You have a protagonist who has different circumstances--blindness in H20, and delinquency in Clannad--who is followed around by or meets a harem of girls. Cue crazy back-stories and a plot that just throws in random problems to make it seem spicy and you have either series. The difference is H20: Footprints in the sand finishes in half the time.

The art style is similar.
The storyline falls into the same high-school love trope.
Strong character progression.
