Not a fan of most harem, ecchi, shounen, shoujou and 'moe' anime (i'm sure there are other genres I'm missing out). I'm sure some of the shows falling under those genres are good, I'm just not the target audience for them. My ratings for shows are not really comparable with each other, my set of criteria for how good an anime is never completely fixed, and it is hard to put an exact number on how much I enjoyed a show. My earlier anime are, on average, rated higher.
I cannot watch really good anime back to back. I have to have fillers in between. Even if I end up disliking them, it makes me appreciate the good anime more (though I never watch an anime to the end that I'm pretty sure I'll dislike). I don't drop an anime as long as I have hope that it might redeem itself through its ending. The ending, for me, is the most important part of a story.
While I believe that there is a great deal of subjectivity when it comes to show preference and enjoyment, I do believe some elements of shows can be objectively seen as bad or good. Bad writing is bad writing (although it might be hard in some cases to classify something "objectively" as bad writing). Good animation is good animation. And so on. What would be subjective is how much those elements effect the enjoyment of each viewer.
highschool settings, character bowing down (or kneeling for greater effect) and everyone being really surprised by it; willpower and screaming changing everything; characters liking a MC for no other reason except the fact that s/he is a MC; ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?!; overpowered MCS; one dimensional villains; villains being villains because humans are bad and they have to save humanity from itself by destroying it; emotions and sentiments somehow manifesting physically in some form; successful heroines who work hard because they love someone; the sexualization of children; MCs with messiah complexes; MCs with martyr complexes; perpetual blushes; excessively submissive characters; chameleon MCs; unneeded objectification of women; characters telling the viewers what they feel instead of the anime showing you how they feel.
Probably missing a lot of things. Of course, it isn't guaranteed that I will hate all of these cliches and tropes; for some of these things, it really depends on how they're used, tropes are tools in the end, after all. I swear though, if I hear some character tell the protagonist some variation of "you're really kind" one more time, or if an anime I'm watching starts out as a normal anime but devolves into harem antics, I'll gag.
My (loosely defined) rating criteria in order of priority: Enjoyment: Yup, I'm one of those plebs that has enjoyment as the most important criterion. Relative novelty: Related to enjoyment and almost as, if not equally, important. The more novel an anime is compared to the anime I have already watched, the more likely I am to enjoy it. This is why my earlier anime are rated higher; I hadn't watched a lot of anime when I first watched them so they were novel for me. There is a limit to this of course; I'm not gonna like something that is complete trash just because it is novel. Thematic aspects: This is a very wide criterion. Is there more to the anime than its face value? Are the characters in the anime allegorical? Are there philosophies or themes underlying the anime? If there is something like this in the anime, is done well, isn't heavy handed and isn't included just for the sake of being "intellectual", I'm likely to give the anime a higher score. Production quality: This generally refers to art, sound, etc. When it comes to art, I'm not that picky as long as it meets a certain standard. I really like it when the art and music seamlessly assist the story though; a lot of the time that doesn't really happen.
If the production quality is really low, then it will be hard to enjoy the anime, but once it the quality reaches a certain point, it being better than that won't really affect my enjoyment that much.
I love reading, and reading is what indirectly got me into anime (books->visual novels->anime). Sadly, I don't get time to read enough these days. All I really want is a good story, whatever the medium. I've tried reading a couple of fan-translations of light novels, and I don't know how they are in the original language, but I usually hate the writing in the fan-translations. I've tried some official translations as well, but those novels weren't to my taste. I'm not an anime fan as much as I am a visual novel fan, it's just that anime is much more easily consumable and watching it is easier to fit in my day.
