I'm an anime enthusiast who enjoys a wide range of genres. I particularly enjoy drama, romance, thriller, comedy, and slice-of-life. On the other hand, I dislike most ecchi/harem and long running shounen shows due to how incredibly predictable they usually are, although there are a few notable exceptions. I also read manga, visual novels and light novels, but not nearly as much as I watch anime. Feel free to make any anime/manga/VN/LN recommendations that you think I will be able to enjoy.
I'm fairly open regarding friend requests; however, I will not accept random requests from strangers I have never talked to before. This means you should try to start a conversation first before sending an invitation. I encourage friendly discussions and debates, so drop me a comment or two if you have something to talk about. If you have any questions about my ratings or anything else on my page, then feel free to ask. Constructive criticism is appreciated; trolling, however, is not.
Visual Novels
Probably my favorite medium in terms of overall immersion and emotional impact. I would encourage any anime fan to give visual novels a try. Some of the highly acclaimed titles may be time-consuming, but the payoff is definitely worth the time investment. Trust me, you won't regret investing your time on this niche medium.
Last Completed: White Album 2 (Introductory Chapter + Closing Chapter + Coda + Mini-After Story)
Time Spent: 90 hours
Comment: Going into WA2, I knew that it would be a depressing title, and possibly leave me feeling empty inside due to its heavy content. The anime adaptation, while not one of my favorite shows, did pique my interest in finding out what fate awaits the trio characters in Haruki, Setsuna, and Kazusa. So, I mentally prepared myself heading in, while also holding optimism that this could be a special work, given its high acclaim. What I got was a godlike drama featuring some of the best character writing I've seen in any fiction. While none of the main characters are what I would call perfect people, they all did the best they could under the unfavorable circumstances they were placed in. And for how realistically flawed they are portrayed, despite how despicable some of their actions were in the story, I could not bring myself to hate any of them. This isn't to say that the work is perfect, as it does have some pacing issues at times, but overall its consistency leaves a lot to be admired. Among the trio, I found Setsuna to be the most interesting and likable character, and in my eyes, her true ending was the best possible ending for all parties involved. Kazusa's true ending, while also wonderfully written, left a bittersweet feeling in my mouth. The Mini-After Story and Extra Chapter did wonders to wrap everything up in a great way.

MAL Status
I don't think I'll be active on this site anymore, due to work life getting busier than ever before. I'll probably only be around to update the shows I watch/read until I find more time for online activities. Until then, I won't be replying to comments regularly. Hope you guys understand.

Oshi no Ko's ending was... rather controversial. I'm definitely not a huge fan of it, but at the same time, I can understand why the author chose to not give it a happy ending for everyone. As a whole, I enjoyed this manga a lot so it's still getting a respectable score from me.
How I Rate Stuff
My rating system takes account of four main categories (Story, Character, Enjoyment, and Significance), and uses them to calculate a cumulative average. I put more weight on the Story and Character sections because I deem them to be the most important aspects in evaluating a work, while Enjoyment and Significance are given less weight since they're more personal and subjective. Note that this system is far from objective, as every score is ultimately influenced by my own subjective take on the subject, and is primarily there to give me a more balanced approach of doing ratings. For the sake of consistency, I use the same guidelines for anime, manga, light novels, and visual novels.
Story (Presentation, Theme, and Pacing) - 30%
Character (Development, Interaction, and Characterization) - 30%
Enjoyment (Consistency, Anticipation, and Impact) - 20%
Significance (Memorability, Value, and Nostalgia) - 20%
Rating Scale
1/10 = Atrocious: An utter waste of time. Something that is so bad, that its very existence is a joke. Hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
2/10 = Awful: Terrible show with countless flaws that is difficult to like or appreciate in any manner, save for perhaps a few occasional moments.
3/10 = Bad: A poor show that is riddled with questionable writing and cliches, but can still be amusing to watch at times. Nonetheless, it is far from a worthwhile experience.
4/10 = Subpar: A mediocre series which may have more negatives than positives, but thankfully has some redeeming qualities that makes it worth watching to the end. A guilty pleasure.
5/10 = Average: An enjoyable series with plenty of good points, but is hindered by an equal amount of bad points. Typically a work that is subjectively entertaining, but lacks any real significance that makes it stand out from the rest of its peers.
6/10 = Decent: A solid work that is not only consistently enjoyable to watch, but also offers something unique to the viewer. It is not without its own share of flaws, although the overall experience should be considered as a success.
7/10 = Good: A very strong work that provides both quality writing and impact. Something to be praised and respected.
8/10 = Great: An excellent work in all categories that easily stands out from the rest of its peers. Whether it's in the story or characters, the show brilliantly nails them down, and presents a thoroughly engaging experience that will be remembered for a long time.
9/10 = Amazing: An absolutely fantastic ride that delivers impeccable writing, presentation, significance, and enjoyment. Virtually impossible to forget, and leaves a huge void upon completion. Truly an extraordinary experience to behold.
10/10 = Masterpiece: What I regard as the pinnacle of the medium. This is a work with an unforgettable story and an exemplary character cast. And, most of all, this is a work that speaks to me on a personal level - a feat that simply cannot be replicated in other titles. Masterful writing agglomerated with sentimental fulfillment, make it the closest thing to perfection. Simply awe-inspiring.
Thank you. Wishing you and your family. a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too. Hope you have a wonderful time too.
Btw, I missed your previous comment. Noted about the Oshi no Ko rating. Makes sense based on your thoughts and our discussion. A bad ending can really ruin things.
Yeah, I would love to see an anime adaptation of Moto Takagi-san. It would be awesome.
Thank you for the information. I understand what you mean now. It depends on how much we care about the character (for the emotional impact). But it would also be less effective if it came out of the blue.
I just watched the movie, and it was excellent. I really enjoyed it. It was satisfying that they finally told each other how they felt, and that whole conversation was so honest and wholesome.
It's definitely canon. She's very adorable. The movie also showed her in the epilogue. I've read part of that manga, and now that it's complete, I should probably read it all over again. I just glanced through the last chapter, and it's so cute.
Maybe not. The manga definitely did have that chapter, though.
It's awesome that they have great OPs to boot.
I see. Thanks for the information. What exactly is controversial about the ending? I don't mind spoilers.
Nishikata and Takagi are married in this, and it also stars their cute little daughter, Chii. I hope this also gets an adaptation. It's very cute and funny. The daughter has Takagi's looks but Nishikata's personality.
I don't remember if the anime shows this, but there is a manga chapter that shows that they're married in the future.
Great to know. π Those two shows are ones that I'm keeping a close eye on, so it's very pleasing to know that they're on point. I totally understand that feeling.
You're welcome. I definitely liked it a lot. It helps that I'm a fan of both the male and female leading actors too.
It's worthwhile going back to it. It's an old-school anime and quite enjoyable. He's awesome. Some of the other characters (particularly one) are also badass.
That's why I brought it up again. It's a show that I dearly love and it's quite good. There's a great mix of comedy, mystery, and intrigue. Lovable characters and some slight romance.
I really want to watch it. I enjoyed the live-action series a lot, and the movie is a sequel about their reunion leading up to their marriage.
Yes. I sure do. Just need the right frame of mind.
It was a healing drama wherein an orphan wrongfully accused of arson ends up doing voluntary community service at a hospice. There, he finds a true home and learns the meaning of family. It has excellent character relationships, a loving found family and a sweet romance to boot. Plus, it is so easy to root for the male lead.
Yeah. I do not think that we every broached this topic either. All of them had excellent dubs like you stated. Kanon was probably the least impressive of that selection. GetBackers is a hugely nostalgic series for me. Much like Detective School Q. GetBackers has a fully translated manga which I have not read but the anime is not a full faithful adaptation of the manga. However, it is a lot of fun and has an anime original ending. It has very cool characters. I love Ban Midou who is one of the protagonists. The character designs are very nice. You do not see that style these days. Some arcs are excellent, others, not so much. But overall, it is still a very enjoyable experience. Personal bias and all.
On the other hand, I certainly do recommend checking out Detective School Q if your ever get a chance. I love both the anime and the manga. Again, I have huge soft spot for the protagonist Kyuu who is so lovable and sharp. Those were the good times. I used to eagerly watch these shows. I have re-watched all these shows multiple times. Not over a dozen like Rurouni Kenshin but more than three times.
Great to know. :) Speaking of which, the Takagi live action movie Bluray is out today. Just waiting for the subs.
Yeah. Moreover, I've been way behind in terms of anime watching lately, so I have a lot to watch whenever I feel up to it.
Very huge. I've seen many J-dramas that are way better despite having a lower score, so that's not the main criterion for me. I did like the show for what it was. It was easy to watch and got me back on track again. I hadn't completed anything in 10 days, so I needed something like this. Just like that, I finished another show yesterday. This was a K-drama called If You Wish Upon Me, and it was outstanding. I loved it.
My first two shows were also Inu Yasha and Rurouni Kenshin. Those were the titles that got me into anime. I watched Yu Yu Hakusho a little later. I did watch Detective School Q and Get Backers before that. I also watched all these shows dubbed. In fact, my first fully subbed anime was Toradora, which I watched much, much later. I watched so many other titles before that, including Death Note, Kanon, Clannad, Monster, Code Geass, etc. All the shows did have great dubs back in the day. I agree that the three titles you mentioned, in particular, had better dubs than the Japanese voice acting.
She does? Wow. That would be something to look forward to.
Yes. I've done that for quite a few series myself. The only thing is, I have yet to watch some of those shows for which we got an anime adaptation. π
Yes. It's a rom-com (more of a medical drama plus romance, but it has comedy too with its quirky cast of characters). I guess the live action was better than the manga, or the manga was just plain underrated because it is pretty much unknown here on MAL with a 7.24 rating. The live action has an 8.4 rating, which is very high for a J-drama.
That's why I always watched the dub. My first experience was when I was only watching dubbed anime, so that helped. It's nice to hear about both Kenshin and Kaoru. π
Yes. It's pretty well-acclaimed, so we can expect good things.
Will do. I watched An Incurable Case of Love, which is an adaptation of a manga, and it was pretty nice. It took me a full episode to get into it, but it was very good after that. Just what I needed.
If we hadn't heard the music in the original, I don't think we would even be discussing it. The Japanese voice acting in the original was bad, so this is definitely a positive.
Awesome. I think it will probably be handled well. π€πΌ
I desperately need one for my drama watching right now as I'm watching a really serious family melodrama. I need something light on the side. Actually, this has a live-action version. Maybe that's worth a shot.
I guess there's nothing wrong I can do about the music and I'll just have to enjoy everything else about it. Haha. Nice!
I read about it a bit more on the wiki pages after your comments, and I must say that I'm extremely excited for it.
My brother also told me more about Dandadan, and like Blue Box, I did spoil myself by reading through the wiki, so that's another one that I definitely want to see.
Always welcome a cozy rom-com. π
The Kyoto Arc will be fun regardless of how it's adapted, and I'm glad that you're getting used to the voice actor for Shishio. If only they had kept the music...

That's unfortunate. You can let it sink in a bit more and then make the final decision.

Yes, it's set ten years after their middle school days. Oh! Did you? You haven't heard of the other Takagi manga?
