Termination. Although Madoka Magica and Angel Beats don't share many similarities, it is similar to its characters Angel and Homura.

Both Angel and Homura both try their hardest to stop a force from committing their actions. AB has Angel stop the SSS from causing havoc, PMMM has Homura stop Kyuubey from letting Madoka become a magical girl.

AB is a joyous comedic anime with supernatural elements, with PMMM being a great dark, despairful, psychological magic anime.

They are both one season anime's and both have heart breaking stories. They are both fantasy-esque anime that will get you thinking about it for days afterwards. I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Highly recommended

There's one thing and one thing only, "Everything is not what it seems."

Though Angel Beats does already appear as not innocent (others may think different, but to me it didn't look innocent), It has a similar way to twist their stories. Angel Beats does not include much magic itself but the world itself is just magical. Nobody there is still alive, which leaves surprising ways for them to twist the storyline. Have fun watching and surfing anime/manga to anyone reading this.

These two anime may have quite a different plot, but I felt the vibe they gave off to be the same. Aside from the vibe, I think both have a story that contains humor, (though Little Busters! has more humor in it than Little Busters: Refrain.) drama and a beautiful deeper meaning. Be sure to keep a box of tissues nearby, though, because you wouldn't be the first one to cry your eyes out.

Both Key works Little Busters being a VN adaption and Angel Beats being an anime original. Jun Maeda wrote both Angel Beats and Little Busters. It's very hard to explain without spoiling both shows, but they both share many of the same themes and motifs.

Though I would never recommend skipping the first season of Little Busters, this second season is what made the series worthwhile. In Refrain, the main plot finally begins to unfold and takes on many characteristics of Angel Beats. This is mainly a result of the growing supernatural phenomena. Both play with themes including death, school life, past grief, acceptance through companionship, and loss. Both shows are set in an abnormal and ominous world that the characters don't quite understand.
Refrain had a previous season to develop characters, where Angel Beats had 13 episodes to do so. That being said, there are still tremendous parallels within the two groups. For example, each show has the meat-headed fighter, the quiet disciplined one, the leader, and the protagonist who has to step up and break the cycle. Understandably, Angel Beats is faster paced and more action-oriented, where the Little Busters series has a bit more character depth and build up. However, on a conceptual level, you probably can't get closer. read more

The dark theme, the romance between some characters, Grisaia no Kajitsu really gives a wave of Angel Beats! back to me, since I haven't cried on a 13-episode series since Angel Beats! Beautiful anime, also they reflect alot about death and what there is after it.

During the first few episodes of Grisaia no Kajitsu, these two shows didn't seem to have any similarities. But as the story went on, I found they were quite alike. They depict how a past tragedy changes the characters' whole lives. And our protagonist helps them to accept their fate. Moreover, they both have a special school as setting, mild animation, and decent music composition.

2nd half of Grisaia no Kajitsu reminded me a lot of Angel Beats. Both series talk a lot about death and how people behave when they are on the brink of death. Both series feature characters who carry deep regrets after (they believe) causing the harm to their friend or family.

Whereas Angel Beats is about purgatory, where every character in the story has already died, Grisaia no Kajitsu is about near-death experience, where characters come out of scenarios where they are the only surviving person. These issues are explored thoroughly from the 2nd half of Grisaia no Kajitsu all the way through to the two sequels. read more

Death plays a major role in both shows. In Angel Beats! everyone is trying to atone for their past lives in purgatory while in SAO, everyone is fighting for their lives in order to make it back to the real world.

I don't even know where to start with attempting to recommend Sword Art Online. The series is great, while it's in an outside reality and guilds take place- SOA, much like Angel Beats will have you liking some characters more than most and you'll probably be caught off guard and start feeling a little emotional like with Angel Beats.

Sword art online is something I dropped half way through season 1 because of certain *events* but honestly Angel Beats is shorter and still is amazing, I've never laughed so hard at an anime before, while still having a sense of dread as the backstory of the characters is dark and is a main part of the plot as just like in Sword Art they are stuck in a game/like Limbo (Purgatory) and are fighting against the schools master. One of the best anime's that just keeps taking everything you thought you know and flipping it onto the floor before reforming it into a bigger picture. Amazing anime and worth the time. read more

Reforge. ReLife and Angel Beats both follow individuals who want to reforge what had been a loathing life ahead of them. Breaking all kinds of natural laws the stories scroll out how these characters will change in a time of high school.

ReLife does this with Kaizaki taking the ReLife experiment in order to retrieve lost values and get a job right after. Angel Beats uses Otonashi and his experience with the SSS and their wants in getting revenge on God for their horrible lives.

Both are good anime with comedy to add to them. Though AB has more action compared to a chiller s.o.l ReLife is.

Both deal with the idea of teenagers who are dealing with forms of regret or emotional struggle, but through the help of the protagonist, they attempt to resolve the issue through means of reflection and emotional support.

Both of these shows have tsundere leads, though it takes Yuri longer to soften. There's laughter along the way, adorable moments, and moments when it looks like everything will fall apart. Still no matter how hard Toradora! tries to convince you it's only funny or Angel Beats! that it's only serious, there's a gooey center in each of these shows that left me with a smile. :)

Angel Beats is similar to Toradora! because they are both classified as romance animes that we all want to see more of. They are also similar because the two main characters in each anime start out as somewhat enemies but come to see that they want the same thing and end up falling for each other in the end.

Both use very similar Gothic styles with only slight differences color wise, but there is an emotional pull regarding the characters. The series get very dark, and very emotional, but doesn't dive in full blown right away.

While these two might not have a lot in common at first glance (other than that they're both set in school and are about people, optionally living ones, lol), these two anime get surprisingly similar within the last 1-2 episodes. It's near impossible to explain this sufficiently without spoilers, so I'm just going to say it like this: if you've seen either of the two, the ending of the other will feel fairly familiar and be an equally big feels-trip.

In an abnormal high school setting, the dead, with unfinished business, attempt to remember their life, how they died and try to move on. Both series have heavy supernatural elements, light romance and EXTREMELY similar endings; but Angel Beats has a larger ensemble of characters and more comedy, while Dusk Maiden is a little darker and focuses more on the two main characters.

The Day I Became A God and Angel Beats are two anime created by Jun Maeda of Key (a company known for Kanon, Air, Clannad, and Little Busters) fame and produced by P.A. Works. Both anime are about a boy who meets a girl who says some remarkably weird things as they meet, only to find out that some of what she says may have some truth in it after all. Don't let its fast-paced comedy and the whimsical slice-of-life activities the characters participate in fool you into thinking feels aren't included though. Also, both Ashura and Hinata are voice acted by Ryouhei Kimura and seem to have somewhat similar personalities. read more

God. Though this is a minor similarity used in various ways, the acknowledgement of a God type character used in both anime as a driving force to motives and plot.

AB does this with the MCs having the sole mission to defeat God for the lives they had, Kamisama does this with Hina and her omnipotent knowledge of everything to happen. There are also characters who have a god complex in both.

Both are good anime with comedic and sad scenes made by the same creator Jun Maeda.

If you liked Angel Beats it's only natural for me to recommend you «The day I became a god». It is indeed by the same studio. Overall, I would say that the vibe is pretty similar,a lot of humor, a lot of just pretty scenes and you know that at the end you will cry like a baby. The plot is really original and also includes a god aspect we saw in Angel Beats. Just like the other serie, it's divided in episode that contains a short story that isn't necessarily related to the main story, but have their importances. In general both show are similar for my point of view, and the feeling they left in me is extraordinary. Kamisama ni Natta ni, for me, was better than Angel Beats.  read more

They give out the same feeling. They both have really good somewhat crazy humor moments, and touching moments, too, while the overall plot is poor and one can hardly speak about the whole anime story development. Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? and Angel Beats are similar in this: they're not your usual episodic anime and it seems like there's a story that progresses from one episode to another, but in reality it's only a ghost of the story that only takes place to move the anime on and to connect those funny and sad moments. And it'll be fair to say those moments are nice to your eyes.
And yeah, as it was already mentioned in other recommendations, both these anime play with the undead theme. read more

The amounts of laughter that both series tries to engineer is something to take notice if you plan on watching both series. And yes, that means comedy and entertainment.

Of course, both series contain supernatural elements done in a fun way as well as drama. There are also seriousness in both series mixed in with the characters. And speaking of characters, both MC are technically "dead" for different reasons. It is from this point in that he makes interactions with other characters.

All in all, if you're looking for a series with hilarious comedy but also has touching drama at different degrees, then these two anime(s) are something to keep an eye on. read more

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanajo is a very sweet, enjoyable, funny series with an amazing cast of characters.  The art for the show is also very beautiful.  In these ways, it relates to Angel Beats!  They are both very fun, lovable series that anyone who has some time should definitely check out.  You'll get a good laugh out of Sakurasou no Pet na Kanajo and it will probably give you some emotional moments.  However, if you're looking for a show with the same action as Angel Beats, this is not the show for you for it is more a good story and a comedy than an action-packed, exciting series.  read more

except the bloody scenes and the fightings.
Tachibana Kanade is very similar to Shiina Mashiro, they both are "feelingless" and i found the same excitement in both animes.

Our time with the eccentrics. Angel Beats and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou show what life is like with a bunch of eccentric misfits.

Despite plots varying, Angel Beats and Sakurasou both have similar MCs with Otonashi and Sorata behaving a kindred manner, wherein they are both the 'sane' people of their respective groups. The same is with Angel and Mashiro, both being classed as the kuudere character. As time passes both MCs being to develop understandings of their respective peer as well as those around them.

Both are well-made slow romance comedies all in a school setting. Though AB being supernatural in contrast to Sakurasou's slice of life world.  read more

In both, we enjoy the daily life of the characters without any problem, the comedy and dramatic scenes, but in the end, we have to say goodbye to all this routine and it is a little difficult.

Both anime involves a guy who helps other girls while at the same time dealing with his own. Both main male protagonists suffer from memory loss although 1 just forgot his time in the city years ago while the other has an almost complete memory loss. Both main male protagonists eventually regain their memories as they help others.

Both recommendations are from Key. I love this animes because the history it's very good, so amazing. I cried a LOT with this two series. And well, all the animes from the Key has got the sames messages:
Dreams, love, friends, and a lot of aims.
Aims: All the aims can be complete with a lot of working, force (and, sometimes with a little support from your friends!).
I really love this two animes (I love more animes, but this two animes are very special), and I really recommend it. (All the animes from Key are good animes too! <3)

Kanon and Angel Beats are two somewhat-slice-of-life anime made with the involvement of Key, the visual novel company well known for dramatic stories about a male protagonist helping various female characters with their problems. Along with that aspect, similarities between these two anime include memory loss, tragic backstories, action scenes (more prevalent in Angel Beats though), friendship, making others happy during sad times, et cetera. Angel Beats is shorter and more better paced in my opinion though.

Two series that might make you question what you are watching after the first few episodes but eventually pull you in and you just go along with it. Both of these anime focus on groups of teenagers that are already dead. Additionally to that there are three main reasons these two series give a somewhat similar feel:

The comedy of the two shows is similar at the times. It is often related to the fact that characters cannot die because they are already dead. Both also include situations that might seem ridiculous and over the top but end up being very fun to watch.

Music has a role in both of these anime to some degree. In Zombieland Saga the main characters are an idol group while some characters in Angel Beats are part of a band. However the former puts much more focus on this than the latter. 

Tragic backstories of characters are included. Angel Beats puts more focus on this aspect than Zombieland Saga but both of them get quite emotional.  read more

The main character gets to meet the other people in a town/ school. Then comes a series of flashbacks from many characters. Finally comes cliffhanger ending. That's how i would describe the overall plot of these two similar series.

As you might have figure it out, but both series are made by the same producers. Which concludes that they have similar arts, and a mix of action and romance. 

To wrap up both series, the ending will leave you in tears, without a doubt.

Air and Angel Beats are two short slice of life anime made with the involvement of Key. Both anime have notably sad plots and are about a group of characters with dark/sad pasts, and have probably the most saddest endings in all of anime (no joke). Alongside with its saddening parts, there's a couple of jokes here and there to lighten up the mood, which is especially more present in Angel Beats.

Angela Beats is the more shounen friendly version of Elfen lied. WHY!? there are no similarities! Yes there is. Both AB and EL have the same core when it comes to the characters.

Both have Characters that either had or are having a SHITTY life. a life of pain and suffering, and those charathers are fighting for just one little bit of happines.

Both Have Like That Same Vibe / Feeling even though one is about zombies and one is about dead kids and their life. U get the feeling that like the group is fight against everything else and like stick together with lots of comedy =D hotd has more eechi though.

The series share a similar doom and gloom attitude which leaves the viewer hoping for a better future, but whether the better future comes would provide spoilers. Specifically, there is this fight for one’s life going on, yet this normality that contradicts this fight which the characters find themselves needing to balance out.

They both have a group of kids in an exaggerated school setting (one school in the afterlife and one school that has students battle). They're both comedies and both have some romance in them as well. Angel Beats is a little softer on the romance and comedy, and more emotional and deep as well. It really pulls you into the story. Baka to Test on the other-hand is a slapstick comedy that will have you laughing to yourself twenty minutes after you've finished watching an episode. The romance is balanced in well so that you end up loving many of the characters to boot.

Both anime have good action, with guilty crown having some of the best fighting scenes I've seen in a while. Also both Angel Beats and Guilty Crown tend to be more serious anime with a little comedy thrown in. Both anime focus on the importance of relationships and both have great music! if you liked angel beats you will love guilty crown as well!!

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai depicts a story in which the main character experiences the 'Puberty Syndrome', where supernatural phenomenons kept occurring around himself and his friends where subconscious thoughts and wishes started turning into reality. The anime also illustrates a very beautiful and emotional love story between Sakuta Azusagawa and Mai Sakurajima.

Similarly to Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai, Angel Beats portrays Otonashi, a high school student who doesn't remember how he died or how he lived. He wakes up in Afterlife High School where he joins the SSS to battle Tenshi. Gradually, he begins to unravel the mysteries of Tenshi and the purpose of the Highschool.

I recommend this anime because they are both animes with mystery, supernatural occurences, beautiful romance stories, and plot which are similar to each other in the sense that it messed with my heart from deep inside with the beautiful story writing that left me feeling melancholic.

Note: I'd like to make a note to remind the viewers that a sequel to Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai exists. It is a movie which is well-written masterpiece that continues after the 13th episode of Season 1 and if you really love the anime, you should definitely watch it. Few shows have ever touched up the human psyche. The feeling of emptiness even when lives goes on and continues. Life can be funny but it can also feel sad and alone. We laugh to keep our hopes up but never once do we dream of failure, but when it does, it's how we handle it that makes it matter.

In my opinion, Bunny Girl Senpai and Angel Beats have that feeling. These two shows borders the line between the comedic parts of life and the sad parts. Each character you get to know on a personal level, which matters considering the "why" they were even introduced to the show in the first place.

Some people in these shows have a "something". Without any spoilers, of course; these "something" let you know these characters on a more intimate level. See, life can be happy. But these characters feel like they're living life the way we live it, by persevering. Life can be a burden, not just because of the way our life is currently, but because in my personal opinion, even those we carried in our past hold us down. We idolize people, we look up to people, we even want to be like others. But life just doesn't follow wishes, it gives it to people when the time is right. Even happiness.

I think if you're looking for something that can pull your heartsrings while also giving you a good time, ala comedy via the communication and exchanges between the characters; these two anime can do it for you. Just be prepared, I guess. Because you might shed tears even before you know it.

PS: Ever wondered why we meet friends, why we get annoyed by them, but yet we stick by their side regardless of their shortcomings? Okay, just asking. Anyways, look these anime up! Highly recommend. read more

Character dramatization are backstory reliant though tearjerking in sometime. 
The OST of both series are almost the same.

They both share a similar characteristic of playing with your emotions, although Mirai Nikki has a much much stronger element of fear added in the mix.  Both have strong plots and dark character backstories that become motives for their struggles.  One could also argue that Mirai Nikki is a perversion of Angel Beats! since the participants are forced to fight each other to alleviate their live's sorrows instead of working together to overcome them.

Out of all the seasons of Little Busters, LB!:Ex is propably the most similar to Angel Beats, mainly because of the first "Arc" of Ex. 
We have a girl fighting against some kind of force on the grounds of school, the main guy helping her out and then them trying to find something in the underground of said school - meanwhile trying to dodge several traps etc. The similarities go on like that but to keep this spoiler free I won't go into more detail on this - you know what I mean by Angel Beats and the first Arc of LB!:Ex being pretty similar anyway. The other seasons and arcs aren't just as obvious with their similarites but still, since both are tear jerkers with kind of over the top characters and supernatural elements, you might enjoy one if you enjoyed the other.  read more

The charisma of this Anime is similar, but not the exact same. With Daisuke Niwas special side, it's including fun that makes Angel Beats! so special. The characters in general are similar.

Both of these anime's an inspiring MC that meets a white haired girl who's both quiet and a little violent. They equally amusing comedy scenes, and the conclusion for both series is heart-wrenching and headache inducing (Meaning you'll be on the edge of your seat as your heart pumps too quickly and you get headache). So really, stop reading this recommendation and go watch Angel Beats (if you haven't, it's pretty famous you know).

Themes of memory and identity, being trapped in another world, computer programs, the sense of a larger plot not being fully explained... There are plenty of big differences between them, but both shows have these elements,and they're both very enjoyable in their own regard. A lot of thought seems to have gone into their concepts. Plus, the creators of Angel Beats! seem to have ambitious plans, so it may come to have the same kind of multimedia project kind of feel that .hack's been expanding on for so long.

For some reason, I always compare these 2 a lot. Both have a huge set of characters, Angel Beats somewhat fails on this while Baccano succeeds. Both include comic relief breaks to make the pacing refreshing in the forms of T.K. and Isaac and Miria. If you love to see a big cast of characters go crazy, both are must see.
