I know this is a strange way of looking at it but I see GANTZ as Angel Beats' mean spirited older sibling. How are they similar? They both deal with a protagonist who dies and suddenly arrives in an afterlife setting where they meet several other people. The objectives of the characters mirror each other (in GANTZ the characters want to leave the afterlife but in Angel Beats they don't want to pass on).
