I rate based on my enjoyment, the quality of the anime and what it's trying to achieve. I always try to look in the context of the genre. You also might notice that I dropped some anime, despite giving it a high score. That's because:
- I saw the high quality of the anime, even though it's just not my cup of tea
- it's a long-running anime and I got tired of it. It will still hold a special place in my heart, despite the flaws (look at Naruto (Shippuuden), Bleach)
Score: 10
Masterpiece, will be my favorite for years to come. It has great animation, plot and character development. It has very little flaws, but it receives a 10 instead of a 9 thanks to personal bias and attachment. Only a few anime will receive this rating.
Highly recommended
Score: 9
An emotional gripping piece. It was great show or manga, but is held back by a few minor flaws. Still great and a favorite of mine.
Highly recommended
Score: 8
It was great, but it does screw up sometimes. Some things could've done better in order to exceed it to a 9. Despite these flaws, it was still enjoyable.

Score: 7
The show or manga has a great premise but doesn't live up to its potential. Still, there was something that kept it above average. The show was enjoyable.

Score: 6
It was average but still enjoyable. But I wouldn't recommend it since it was nothing new to the table.
Not recommended, but I don't hate it either.
Score: 5
Average. in most cases I finished it, but it felt like a chore.
