Both Have Like That Same Vibe / Feeling even though one is about zombies and one is about dead kids and their life. U get the feeling that like the group is fight against everything else and like stick together with lots of comedy =D hotd has more eechi though.
Both are story of survival. In, Angel Beats! they fight to survive so that they will not disappear from the afterlife while in Highschool of the Dead they fight to survive from the creepy undead zombies. You can say that they are both gore and have unexpecteed endings.
The art work is very similar and it also has to do with untrained kids dealing with weapons for separate insane reasons. Angel Beats is definitely the greater of the two taking out the ecchi elements in HOTD and replacing it with very intense drama but HOTD concept is very imaginative and is actually very hard to pull off when it comes to zombie apocalypse as it never truly has an ending just ask the people who made RESIDENT EVIL
I just finished watching highschool of the dead and it was amazing!! I noticed that both anime have very different conflicts and yet they were so similar because neither group of people in both animes knew what was happening to them. I'll get straight to the point. If you liked one of them you will definitely like the other in terms of action, romance, and supernatural/ a slight mystery aspect in both! The only major difference that I saw in them was the ecchi. As far as I can remember I don't recall much ecchi in angel beats but both have a sort of comedy
