Both focus on an antihero of sorts with extreme proficiency in slicing dudes. Beautiful artwork, complex and mature themes, and a (while not yet present in Vagabond) hostile rivalry between the two main characters. Berserk is set in a high-fantasy setting while Vagabond is set in medieval Japan and on historical events.

Violent action sword fighting manga that is extremely well drawn.

Both are violent and got nicely done action scenes and interesting flashbacks. Berserk is set in a more fantasy medieval world while Vinland Saga follows the life of Danish Vikings. Berserk Golden age part is very similar to Vinland saga, both is about a strong young boy who is a part of a mercenary group and got full respect from the leader who gives him the most important missions. The art in the two are very close, tho Vinland Saga is a more clean while Berserk is more sketchy and more detailed.

These dark fantasy reads involve large scale fights with powerful, often gigantic, creatures.

Well I'll refrain myself from spoiling the two (Spoilers for decades old manga? Surely everyone already knows the spoilers) Miura himself claims he's a big fan of Go Nagai and had influences from his manga. As for the manga: Both have deep roots in mythology and share a great deal of themes. Among them: friendship, corruption, and betrayal. If you only read the first Devilman series you might see the similarities with Berserk and also notice the major turning point of both series are very much alike. The more of Devilman you read the more and more similarities you'll notice. The characters: Akira/Amon and Guts: Both (at some point or another)  read more

Shin Angyo Onshi is the Korean Berserk. It is as simple as that. There are too many similarities to count, such as even the more superficial things like the lead, Munsu, being branded with a 'curse'. Few manga/manhwa can compare to Berserk in terms of art, but SAO even rivals Berserk in that area. Although Munsu looks... off at the start (similar to Guts in Berserk), the artist quickly became my favourite. For the sake of spoilers, I'll avoid going into detail, but I will say this: the structure of SAO as a series is VERY SIMILAR to Berserk and Munsu's personality / actions mirror Guts'.  read more

Ubel Blatt is essentially a "newer" version of Berserk. It shares many general themes with Berserk, such as a dark fantasy setting, swordfighting, sex and the theme of a lone hero betrayed by his friends and is out to get revenge. However, the mangaka of Ubel Blatt is no Miura; the art is of a more typical manga style than the extremely detailed drawings you'll find in Berserk. Consequently, the character design looks similarly generic. This difference is rather apparent when you compare Koinzell, the main character who looks like a scarred version of Link and is indeed an Elf/Fairy thing, to Guts who is pretty  read more

Both series have a messed up world where many people die every day from either monsters or other humans. Main characters are on a quest for revenge, travelling the lands to find this person. They are both very dark.

Both mangas are about a world that is pretty much in constant war. In Berserk you follow Guts and in Kingdom you follow Shin. Both have to fight to obtain their goals in life. While Berserk is a darker toned manga, Kingdom is also a very serious manga that has a lot of moral story to it, just like Berserk. If you like one, you would like the other

Similar in some regards, while Chainsaw Man feels way lighter in the pursuit of feeling some oppai it does have great action scenes and a decent dose of seriousness, the thing farther from Berserk tho it's the loneliness feeling and a certain realism within it that Chainsaw Man does not have.

Both utilize epic plots with extensive foreshadowing and subtle development as well as taking a slower pace to give focus to adventure, fantasy and character development.

Despite the difference in drawing style and adult content (i.e. sexual material of Berserk) these two mangas have a distinct similarity when it comes to atmosphere. They both sport a definite anti-hero, gore, beautiful characters and a great story. I could honestly not choose one over the other.

Berserk and Blaster Knuckle is virtually the same manga, we follow the lone hero, who's out for revenge against demons. The mayor difference is that in Knuckle Blaster the protagonist is a black man and the story takes place in USA during the 19th century. They are both great, violent mangas, and if you loved Berserk you'll definitley like Blaster Knuckle, it's an incredibly entertaining story.

"Clenched teeth, meet cruel smile." The author(ess) of Wolfsmund, Mitsuhisa Kuji, was once Kentaro Miura's assistant. So, it should come as no great shock to learn that her debut work shares a number of similarities in terms of its medieval setting, grim tone and brutal, 'EVERYONE DIE!' approach to storytelling. But Wolfsmund truly comes into its own with its sketchy art style and a medieval depiction so realistic that it is one of very few series that could accurately be described as a 'bad guy wins' series. Although there is, eventually, a hero of sorts, there is no Guts here: just a villain so wonderfully sharp  read more

Both series contain a headstrong protagonist and an arch rival, who in one way or another ruined their pasts, so now protagonists seek revenge and are trying to find a way to stop them. The atmosphere in both mangas is similar when it comes to battles and will to fight as well as mythological themes.

Whilst these two have completely different settings, they have many common themes between them. Both Berserk and Alita follow unfortunate protagonists whose troubles seem to go from bad to worse-- pretty much all the time. Guts and Gally/Alita (depending on where you read it) suffer terrible hardship, and through this we see them change dramatically. Both stories are so emotional and amazingly written... but I think it's important to note that they're both really gorey!

- Both series are sitting in fantasy worlds where there are Knights and is used Magic. - Both main characters are related to demons and have big massive sword. - Both main characters are rivals with their best friend, but in Berserk it's more like hatred, but in both they are related through their past.

Berserk is set in a medieval European time setting full of monsters and Gods while Shamo takes place in modern-day Japan dealing with martial arts fights. These two pieces are mature works and share a pervasive dark mood throughout, and the art of both reflects that, being highly detailed and gritty -- don't ever expect flowers and rainbows. Both are chock full of violence, sex, rape, and two protagonists who share an immeasurable will to survive, ruthlessly fighting to defeat something that is undeniably a bigger force than they. What connects Berserk and Innocent is a minute portrayal of brutality, the horror and at the same time, the banality of evil. Despite one of the works being a fictional fantasy world and the other a story based on real historical events, a feeling of a ruthless naturalism stands out. We can see not only a motif of the protagonist's struggle with the inevitability of fate but also other interesting themes: the hypocrisy and immorality of aristocracy and the clergymen, a woman fighter claiming her independence, etc.
reportRecommended by Limonene
The determination to face any challenge is a common feature of both characters. If you like that kind of character is not discouraged, however bad the situation is, then you will like to know both Gatsu (Berserk) as Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken).

I wouldn't be surprised if Dororo was an inspiration for Berserk. Both feature a mutilated but incredibly skilled hero on a quest for revenge against demons, accompanied by a cocky sidekick. Berserk is far more disturbing, but Dororo is quite dark and gruesome in its own right.

Altough akame ga kill is more light hearted. I think it is very similar to beserk. both have fantasy weapons and armor, but it's more realistic then in most manga. Both stories aren't afraid to let people die, even if they are innocent or important characters. In both they are in a corrupted world fighting monsters (some humans are also monsters) against odds. although guts is alone.

For those who've only seen the movie of Nausicaa may question this reccomendation. however the manga is completely different from the anime. Both Berserk and Nausicaa are bloody, there's a lot of wars, fighting and action. also a lot of wierd and interesting shit happens. with berserk its demons and monsters, in nausicaa its monsters, giant bugs that have a great link to the earth and immortal kings that breed unhuman warriors. Most importantly they both have a very, very great plot and storyline.

Berserk deals with a warrior fighting against massive grotesque monsters and humans alike such as knights and bandits and most recently tentacle pirates, Toujuushi Bestialious (somebody really needs to translate the alternative name for this) has a Wyvern fighting a gladiator and roman legionnaires Berserk started off as a one shot and I can imagine Toujuushi Bestialious turning out to look very similar to Berserk if it is given the same opportunity to be turned into a full blown action manga Both titles show awesome detailed artwork particularly the monsters and armor

Ares and Berserk share a number of themes and story elements, while at the same time remaining wholly unique. Ares follows the story of a group of talented young swordsmen who come together in a mercenary army and forge bonds of friendship and camaraderie through difficult battles. Each of the main characters is given a rich background and a very unique personality, however it's in those personalities that you see the echoing of Berserk's lead rolls. Much the same when it comes to dark forces hunting and stalking the main character. Both protagonists come to learn they have hidden powers that drives them into exile, not to mention others looking to harm them because of what they have become. Even though the protagonists have very powerful and dark powers they are still kind hearted and will do what's right in the end. Both stories indulge in Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, and Psychological genre components.

Both Manga have a huge world full of magic and an endless journey that begins with an enormous will for revange. Berserk is a lot darker than Kubera (Kubera would be considered shounen) but nevertheless Kubera has its mature side and the tragedy side of it isn't falling from Berserk's, the tragedy in both Manga will bring tears to your eyes and send shivers down your skin, the storyline will pull you in like you're the main character itself.

Hear me out on this one lol. Both have really good writing for their respective genres as fantasy. Both are pretty brutal, with Hunter x Hunter baring its teeth around the Yorknew arc. Keep in mind that no matter how brutal HxH gets in later parts, Berserk is even crazier (especially during the Conviction arc and the first Eclipse). Both are stories with very well written characters and conflicts that may not even be resolved based on them both having hiatus tendencies ._.

Both mangas are set in a fantasy world. Soul eater's art might not even compete with Berserk but I'm here for that. what each manga hold and has thru the series is something they want to protect, something they value. Each character in Soul Eater has a goal in mind but meaning they'll face some struggles, but struggling is what keeps someone moving forward.

Both of these manga follow an OP MC who just wants revenge while meeting new people. Berserk is more dark though and is not based in a dungeon nor another world like Dungeon Seeker. These two black swordsmen bear kindred spirits. Claymore, Sengoku Youko, and much of Tezuka's work come close I suppose, but there is really nothing I can fully liken Azumi to other than Berserk. Berserk is darker, bloodier, grander in scope to be sure - but it is fundamentally about the same thing. A lone warrior carrying all the spirits of their passed comrades through a violent world, relying only on their skill - but slowly warming, slowly brightening, slowly making a path for themselves. Grooming, war, duty, companions; betrayal, purpose and the mundanity of death. A very genuine and principled discussion on the lasting damage that  read more

While there are no apostles and monsters in Les Misérables, these two gritty manga still share multiple similarities. The main character has suffered lots due to his background in the past. While there is nothing else quite on the scale or depth of Berserk out there, I would say that Shigurui is to samurai manga what Berserk is to fantasy manga. It is dark, gory, immersive, and hypnotic. The tournament that kicks off the manga description is mainly a set up for the "how we got here" story. The manga itself is about the rivalry and then enmity between two swordsmen, rendered epic and high stakes, because each pushes himself beyond the limits of what you would think possible. There is betrayal, murder, sex and body horror. There are some very apt observations about feudal culture,  read more

If Berserk had parents, they'd be Fist of the North Star and Versailles no Bara. The specific blend of shonen and shoujo tropes that Berserk exhibits owes a lot to Kentaro Miura's love of works like Versailles no Bara, and some events of the golden age arc of Berserk could almost be seen as an homage to it as a result. The settings are, as such, quite similar, barring certain events in Berserk that take things in a more gritty direction, while VnB is a character drama/tragedy set against the backdrop of the French revolution. You might think that I'm only recommending the two because they're both filled with gore and nudity, and they both take place in crapsack worlds. However, there's more to these two stories than death and prevalence of evil. The two stories deal with the concept of humanity becoming powerless with similar devices such as humans "ascending" to demons and struggling against a higher power(s). The main characters of both manga, Akira Fudo & Guts, have pretty similar attitude and life. Both have been affected by death and betrayal, which have left them with an immense grudge. They fight against hordes of monsters and humans, while trying to keep their humanity intact and not becoming full monsters. Both manga have a dark and brooding atmosphere, as well as a lot of action, gore and nudity.

Both manga focus on a strong protagonists, who fight against their cruel fate with all their might and bravery. They explore similar themes, such as war and warmongers, and show many battles, action-packed and violent scenes. Both have a similar gritty atmosphere and mood. Their art is also similar, since both manga are drawn by Kentaro Miura.

I believe both of these manga try to appeal to a similar audience. They have strong main protagonists, who undertake a long journey of hardships and struggles in order to defeat an enemy who wants to become a great ruler. Both manga are filled with epic battles, heroic deaths, badass characters and vile, but likable, villains.

Centuria is basically a more decaffeinated version of berserk, but still very dark.

Rooster Fighter is basically a comedic Berserk but with birds and other animals. Both series have characters on a journey for revenge. There are demons in both series, but Berserk takes place in a fantasy land while Rooster Fighter takes place in modern day Japan.

Both Noragami and Berserk are amazing stories, stories where god(s) can do no wrong. Both stories are able to convey hope and despair.

Although they both hold onto d'fferent plot sett'ngsthe atmosphere in both of them seem to be similar.furthermore the blood and violence shown in both of them are intense however we see that the maın character s arent actually vıllaın on the contrary fıghtıng for a purpose.

Yes, I think it's really similar. Both have a similar style of narrative, so they quickly arouse interest. A significant change of the main characters throughout the plot in both series. Also, both series at any time can surprise with cruelty, violence and strange, but interesting dialogues.

I Am a Hero is a tightly told tale about a zombie apocalypse where the MC never is safe due to this. The latter parts of Berserk have a very similar feeling. If you enjoy different kinds of dead people, and killing dead people, you are in for a treat.

The nihilistic traits found in Berserk (the lack of faith in humanity, the corruption of the establishment) are also found in The Word is Mine. Seemingly senseless murdering are turned into gritty poetry in both these mangas.

Both are violent tales of revenge making the most of their unique settings, both feature a character as a baby being rescued from the womb of a dead woman, both have protagonists with oversized weapons. both have 10/10 art style and both have a villain that is definitely gay for one of the main characters

Berserk and Zetman both have a lot of similarities. 1. They both have similiar art style, with it being very detailed in both. 2. Both have an over powered main character. 3. Both main characters are fighting for good and to protect others. 4. The main character's powers are simliar. 5. Both have a dark tone to it. 6. Both have very violent fight and death scenes.

One man hell bent on revenge he will even take on an entire army himself just to find out why the people he trusted betrayed him and set him up. This is the only case i have seen where someone actually lines up to guts as a character nearly one hundred percent. Mills, Grahad is pretty much the future soldier, military trained, arms expert, cqc expert version of guts. If you liked berserk, and you even slightly like mecha you should greatly enjoy the thrill ride that is red eyes.

- This one is a lot lighter in tone compared to Berserk. - They're both based on medieval fantasy worlds, where Akatsuki no Yona is more focused on Eastern Asia. - There are people with god like powers and abilities - Su-won betrays Hak and Yona like Griffith betrays Guts and Casca by killing people precious to them in order for him to become king - The battle scenes are very well done and even though it's a shojo, it isn't afraid to be dark and bloody

about the Protagonists Both protagonists are in a journey, a Quest, that is powered by feelings from deep in their hearts. Both are rather lonely and the silent type but have a companion more talkative and fun, the perfect complement to balance their traits. Both have a strong determination and arms, and are tall, broad, and wear a long cape. about the Story Also, both the stories can become crude at points, yet Berserk is more violent, the Legend more moving. conclusion Apart from this, though, bear in mind that the plots are very different. One of Kentaro Miura huge inspiration for Berserk, both manga share blood, horror and tragedy in a similar yet distinct dark fantasy-medieval setting with solid worldbuilding foundations and superb artistic craftsmanship.

Both series are great for those that love surreal horor.
