Fate/Zero The Explanation for why I believe One Piece is the best anime: This is an excerpt from a conversation I had with a person on MAL where I explained why I like One Piece so much: One Piece is my preferred anime for several reasons. The characters develop quite well over the course of 600 episodes and counting. They all have mostly mature and well written back stories and development. The problem is that most people take it at face value just throwing it into the category of a typical shonen when it is far greater than that. Another great thing is how well everything is accounted for with no plot holes yet and so many times where everything clicks and we get a whole new dimension to the OP-universe. Oda is an absolute genius at planning, everything comes together near perfectly. Another good thing is how much good content there is in it in general. OP manages to continue being entertaining, interesting, and adventurous from the beginning to where we are now with no signs of stopping. One aspect of OP that is often overlooked is that it has some surprisingly good themes throughout the series, something which pleases me exceptionally so when done right in an anime. Now I'm not saying these themes are absolutely ground breaking, like Texhnolyze, NGE, NHK, or Serial Experiments Lain. However, they are still very good, better than all the other shonens and just most anime in general. I'm gonna rattle off some examples of what I'm talking about: - The fishmen racism is a very intriguing and unique theme that adds some depth to OP. Instead of just throwing in traditional racism and not really examining it deeply, OP really goes into this cool aspect of the series. One would never imagine that there would this whole back story of racism towards fishmen in a pirate show with mythical creatures. Oda handles it so well, no other series has things like this, nor do they handle it in quite the same unique Oda does. - Inherited will is another great theme in OP. It is really interesting because it is not generic and isn't really in too many other things to as much of an extent as it is in OP. The whole idea of the previous generation failing to complete their dreams and aspirations for centuries and having the next generation pick up on these and right all those wrongs over time is amazing. Seeing the torch being passed in real time like in OP is a rare sight in entertainment mediums. - Letting go of your past and moving on and living happily is another exceptional theme in OP. All of the main cast undergo this process. Each of them do it through unconventional methods, which keeps it fresh every time. All of this is happening in the bizarre but great world of OP, instead of just being a generic transition in a real life setting which has been overdone to death. The change seen in these characters remains so relatable and human while being in such in the strange setting of OP. It was always exciting to come to know the next crew member and to know that they'll be travelling as one of the main cast hanging out with the other developed and cool characters. Those are just some of the many themes explored in the wonderful series of OP. Some other good things about it are its sheer entertainment value. Never have I been so entertained in my entire life.First off, the show has some pretty quality comedy. About half of the jokes made me laugh out loud. This is impressive because OP is principally not a comedy series, and yet is has so many jokes throughout, and since I found about half of them to be funny, this means that there were thousands of jokes that were successful at doing what they were intended to do. Here's an example of why the comedy is some of the best out there: Take the anime Welcome to the NHK. I must give it credit for most of its jokes being hilarious, so it beats OP in the average comedy value, but the beautiful thing about OP as a whole is that it has so many good jokes throughout that I enjoyed to the point where as a whole, it was funnier when you take the sheer amount of good jokes on both sides. Another positive for the series is the godly soundtrack it has. I wouldn't consider even one of the openings to be bad or even average. They were all at least a 7/10 on the scale for openings. Same goes for the ending songs. Those are just the tip of the iceberg, where OP really hits home is in its OSTs. Each and every one of them fit with atmosphere of the show so well, that's it's almost surreal. I would consider about 10 of them to be beyond a 10/10 in terms of soundtrack quality. The rest are at least 8/10s. Another positive for the series is the large mass of cool characters. Although a lot of them were just quirky, most of the quirks were good and I regard them as being valuable characters to the series to this day. The story is also well received for being emotionally gripping, which I strongly agree with. It does this without seeming like pointless melodrama (most of the time). I'll be the first one to admit, I cried at several points throughout the duration of OP. At one point, I had cried so much for one character that I was all out of tears for the next one that had something sad happen to him shortly after. Of course, there is the action that is just superb. None of the fights rely on BS power ups and nakama powers, save for a few moments of solely encouragement, not a nakama power up. All the fights have good enough tactics to the point where it doesn't seem like DBZ power blasts 24/7. The fights always delivered, always. So, in review, OP is a grossing anime that just keeps the fun-filled adventure going the whole way through, with many more years of greatness to come. That being said, I do recognize that it has its fair share of flaws, but they don't really hinder the story too much and generally minor, but still big enough to make me give it a 9/10 on my scale, because I believe that a 10/10 anime has to be perfect in all aspects, something which I have yet to find, but One Piece has come dangerously close to bridging that gap, which is why it will always have a place in my heart as the best anime, because I seriously doubt anything else can top this masterfullness in anime, at least not any time soon with the current state of the industry. I hope I've convinced you that OP is far more than it may seem on the surface. And now, I will leave you with this: Anime Rating Details: My anime/manga rating scale: 10: The most perfect anime in existence 9: Masterpiece 8: Awesome 7: Great 6: very good 5: Good 4: Slightly bad/ok/average 3: bad 2: This shit sucks 1: These anime are either complete rip offs of something or they are just unbearably horrible or both. How I Distribute My Ratings: Series that are 5 and up are very good, I just like to spread out my ratings so people can see how I distinguish Between the good anime and the best anime. a 4 isn't even that bad but I truly perceive an anime as bad when it is below a 4. Here is an example of what I mean: I thoroughly enjoyed Haruhi Suzumiya during the majority of the episodes but I rated it a 5 because it simply isn't as good as those above it. How I rate different types of series: As you may notice from reading the tags on my anime list, I rate some things high on characters and depth and other things high on how much I enjoyed the series or how funny it was. For example, Jojo's Bizarrre obviously doesn't have realistic characters or much depth but the show isn't about that. Its an over-the-top show that sort of parodies the shonen genre and isn't meant to be taken seriously or to be over-analyzed. On the other hand, series like Death Note and Code Geass are trying to be taken very seriously and they are supposed to be about smart characters making smart plans and other well-thought out things, so, if the characters are lacking and the plans and actions of the characters and the plot progression are inconsistent and poorly written, then I will not rate it as high as others series that have more deus-ex-machinas and unrealistic characters. That is because those series aren't trying to be something they are not. An example of a series that is meant to be taken seriously and has great characters and depth is NGE. That is focused on the characters and it does it's job very well while portraying many other great things like its underlying themes and symbolism. Anyways, I think you get the point: I rate series on a balanced mix of what they are trying to do, how well they do it, and most importantly, how much I enjoy it. Best Anime By Year from what I've seen so far: 1985: Touch 1988: Legend of the Galactic Heroes 1989: Cipher 1992: Yu Yu Hakusho 1995: Neon Genesis Evangelion 1996: Angel Densetsu 1997: End of Evangelion 1998: Serial Experiments Lain 1999: One Piece 2000: FLCL 2001: Cowboy Bebop movie 2002: Haibane Renmei 2003: Texhnolyze 2004: Samurai Champloo 2006: Welcome To The NHK 2007: Shigurui 2008: Code Geass 2009: Bakemonogatari 2010: Steins; Gate 2011: Fate/Zero 2012: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 2013: Aku No Hana 2014: Ping Pong The Animation Dark Souls is my favorite video game Favorite Western Movies (in no particular order) Citizen Kane Wolf of Wall Street A Clockwork Orange Apocalypse Now Taxi Driver Lord of the Rings The Bridge on the River Kwai Schindler's List Dr. Strangelove American Psycho Patton Indiana Jones Animanga and MAL Completion Details: My Anime Completion Milestones- 1st Anime: Dragon Ball Z 25th Anime: Fate/Zero Second Season 50th Anime: Serial Experiments Lain My MAL Milestones- 100 Anime List views 1/10/15 1,000 Profile views 1/14/15 250 Anime List views 2/8/15 2,500 Profile views 2/19/15 500 Anime List views 2/26/15 100 Manga List views 3/11/15 1,000 Anime List views 3/15/15 5,000 Profile views 3/16/15 2,500 Anime List views 4/19/15 250 Manga List views 4/19/15 10,000 Profile views 5/17/15 5,000 Anime List views 7/13/15 Some of My Favorite Youtube Channels: I've spent a lot of time on YouTube, and these are the most hilarious bastards there are- TV Filthy Frank DouchebagChocolat CheekiChaps BrendanielReads BG Kumbi Snipars Code Provider Only Afro Flimsii Okay, this is the part where I try to be funny and shit, please don't cringe too hard, I hope you're entertained Some Every-Day Things I Do: Waking up suffocating under the weight of my sheer audacity and pretentious nature Telling others about the wonders of Siberian history Educating others about the significance of fedoras in Post-Reddit society Making jokes that nobody laughs at… Proving to others that I’m not a Metrosexual queerbait who indulges in Fascist blood rituals Hanging out with Nicholas Cage and Kony with our Ebola bodyguards in Yemen Oppressing Latvian youths and opulent Icelandic hermaphrodites Cosplaying as a Norwegian peasant at my local furry convention These are the greatest lyrical wizards of our time, I suggest you give'em a listen: If yoll cowards on meh page don't smoke crak, GTFO my page "I'M SORRY MA'M" If you don't think this man ain't the most fly MOFO ever, GTFO my page This is my BottomBitch of my Loli-Harem-Squad, you don't fuck with him #Tablemasterrace Some Really Deep Quotes (to be continued): If you want me to become your senpai and you my pupil then you must pass a series of exams. His hands are so small in his second form, if you don't believe me, just look at them Ulquiorra- Emo kid, but actually pretty cool. If you think you deserve to be on this list, apply in the comments below The Gintamoderators took down my Gintama° review, here it is if you still you want to read it: This anime is number 2 on this website before even airing so this must be the greatest anime of all time, watch it now because it's clearly better than everything else on this website because it's ranked higher. Story-10/10 I haven't seen it, but I'm sure it's great because it's 2nd on MAL Art-10/10 The main picture for this series looks beautiful, that's all I can say, oh and it's also 2nd on MAL so it has to be some high-quality stuff. Sound-10/10 the soundtrack hasn't been leaked yet so I'm just gonna leave this at a 10/10 for now, but when it is eventually leaked, I'm sure it will be great, because it's 2nd on MAL before airing Character- 10/10 The people on the cover image seem pretty cool so it deserves a 10, and of course, let us not forget, it's ranked 2nd highest on MAL before the first episode has been broadcasted so that's a plus too Enjoyment-10/10 it's been really fun reading the synopsis over-and-over and watching the rating go up as it climbed the ranks of MAL, beating all it's competition without do anything at all Overall-10/10 So as you can tell, this must be the magnum opus of humanity as a species because it's 2nd on MAL with only 0 episodes released. By the way, here's something for the new people to MAL reading this: Welcome to MyGintamaList, you will find 5 of the top 10 spots are taken by Gintama because it's clearly the greatest anime in existence, way better than LotGH because that's boring with its 100+ episodes of actual content and lower score, Gintama° provides all that in less than one episode, so it's objectively better, deal with it psuedo-elitists. My initial reaction to the Top Anime on MAL went something like this I pray that they might one day spread their wings of good taste and join the elites Until that day, they remain peasants Also, this is a real man right here Not some 1 dimensional quirky guy like Goku, a real man whose character is fleshed out and has development, while also being a badass in his own right, but in a believable, realistic sense. Here are some more examples of such characters BTW: my current rating on an anime maybe different than what I gave it in a review because my opinion of the anime may have gone up or down over time, or because I had to move it down to more evenly distribute my ratings so that I can portray better anime as being better than others. I would make more reviews, but I'm busy And if you happen to downvote one of my reviews, well... Although I'll still be waiting outside your house with a milk bottle No hard feelings bro But if you do like my reviews, then Also, don't send me random friend-requests, I'll only accept you if you have extremely good taste from a random friend request. Normally, you have to say something in the friend request message or you need to have had a conversation with me at some point on the forums or in my comments. This is my typical reaction to random friend requests Also, if you try to infiltrate my friends list with ill intentions, I will detect your insincerity immediately and rek ur ass like this But if you're cool and I like you, you can chill with me and my crew like this Feel free to leave a comment and have a conversation with me, I enjoy talking about anime with others. You can argue about my ratings too, if you want. I'll respond to your comment soon, but first So what are you waiting for, talk to me already Stop lurking, come on out I extend a hand of peace and prosperity to you Goodbye, my friends, I will miss you. I have decided to move on from this site.
