The psychological genre is evident in both and the main male leads are both cunningly intelligent.

Similar plot - high school student is bored with the world and plots how to change it for the better. Similar art style.

Both of these manga are WSJ manga in which the main characters try to outwit their enemies and evade capture. They're also both tagged as mysteries on this website, and they both contain content that wouldn't be out of place in a seinen.

Both have the similar, eerie themes of being chased for taking actions that the antagonist party views as correct.

I only realized the similarity with around chapter 22 of BM. There is a mastermind with an initial (K and L). There are genius on both sides of the fighting line attacking with intellect and sleuth. Bloody Monday has more action and blood than Death Note and DN has more brains. There is mystery regarding both the protagonist and antagonist and their plans. Death is brought up on both and justice.
reportRecommended by Emovation
A prevailing theme in both series is the notion of moral justice: Is it right to kill those who are unhealthy to society? It is a rather conflicting statement as often the answer lies in the subjective. This is profoundly highlighted in both series through the characters, views of the general public, and moral consequences and decisions the protagonists have to face.
reportRecommended by radiantfire
Behold the hand of justice. Kurosawa, like Light, is a smart, stoic, bored student with a superiority complex and a negative view of the world, driven by his own based sense of righteousness. Dissing and ignoring his conformist fellows, our misanthropic anti-hero takes pleasure in eleborating wicked schemes to get rid of evil individuals - be it with ink or jizz. Despite its blatant parody vibe (including Kira's 'just as planned' face), Onanie Master shares the psychological aspects of Death Note, depicting dramatic situations where the characters have to deal with actions, consequences and punishments.

Ever had a goal in life you would almost kill for to accomplish? Would you have the determination not to give up even if it went bad? Both of these manga are about people who have an incredible amount of determination, even when it seemed impossible they still contiued. Their determination is inspirational and will make you think about your own life and dreams.

For those of you who wander aimlessly seeking for something similar to the thrilling story of the Death Note series, well, you're in luck because Hakomari not only fills that void, it expands it. While there are countless dissimilarities between the two, I'll focus on the similarities which I'm sure would cause Death Note fans to try this series. Hakomari captures Death Note's thriller and mystery aspect not through the battle of impeccable prodigies, but through an extremely intricate plot built layer after layer in each volume. Actually, we get a battle of wits in all of the volumes, but this is not what makes Hakomari stand  read more

Mind games, Machiavellian methods, and mass murders. If you found either of these titles interesting, you might want to also try out the other one since both involve unorthodox detectives hunting down serial killers. However, MPD Psycho is definitely not for the faint of heart with its sexual imagery, explicitly gory death scenes, and mentally unstable characters.
reportRecommended by Yuunagi
Both of these manga come from the same writer/artist combo (who also made Bakuman), and both have a somewhat dark tone. Both manga have supernatural beings (a shinigami in DN, an angel in PE) that give the protagonist their powers (arrows and wings in PE, the Death Note in DE) and follow them around. Also, the protagonists of both series are aiming to become God.
reportRecommended by usnb-bjuN-SU
Both series deal with a teenage protagonist given an unusual supernatural tool in an otherwise ordinary world and the moral dilemmas, mind games, and fights for survival that ensue.
reportRecommended by lithiumflower
A highly intelligent protagonist against an even smarter villain. Supernatural creatures disrupting peace in the world. Interesting characters, an amazing plot, and the most beautifully orchestrated plans that will all leave you on the edge of your seat. If you enjoyed one of these two series, you will surely love the other.

They both remind me strongly of each other and at the same time they are completely diffrent. Both main characters (Noa and Light) are both Geni, they both have someone who they fight(L and the weird Cop) they have females who follow there orders, and a gigantic plans for world change. Yep, and at the same time the feeling is quite diffrent, but I think you will like one if you like the other.

If you're looking for some detective fiction, then Death Note and Shinrei Takumo may be something to consider. Both series adapts a main character who has unnatural talents and a special gift. There is a decent amount of mystery and suspense with thrilling plot twists in both series. And at its core, we find out how twisted their story can become when certain events are connected.

Both deal with psychological themes and manipulation of death. In both manga, a character has the power to manipulate people's death. Izaku and Light are very similar in that they kill "bad people".
reportRecommended by un3xpectedfate
It is similar because in both mangas, there is someone that is trying to bring justice to the world in such ways that you would have never thought of. They both have main characters who go to the extremes to get what they think is better for the world.

Both main characters bring justice upon criminals. They destroy evil by killing criminals. Both are Shounen, Supernatural and Action mangas.
reportRecommended by GothicShadow22
Two words: Shinigami Eyes. They allow you to see both the name and life span of anyone (in DN), or a ring on their neck (in ZL). The prominent themes are death and the supernatural world, secrets and mysteries, a dark and creepy aura. Both are worth-reading, and although considered shounen, they don't have the usual tropes of the genre.
reportRecommended by RenaPsychoKiller
Both are series involving battles of wits between two geniuses from different parts of society who really, really, really want to go to bone town on each other.

First time making a recommendation, please excuse my poor English. Both stories revolve about the true meaning of justice and the fine line between wrong and right. In Tokyo Ghoul, it is a struggle in the protagonist's own mind between his ghoul side and human side, as well as his past and present. Whilst in Death Note, both protagonists represent justice in a different manner. The artwork are well done and have a similar sinister feeling, with unique character design and strong contrast. What I liked most about both manga were the large amount of plot twists. The stories are unpredictable yet logical, with loads of information  read more

Yagami Light and Strauss Akabara are very similar in how they are always trying to out maneuver everyone with really well-thought out strategies. Except Strauss is also an immortal Vampire, and is powerful enough he doesn't need a book to kill people with.

A battle of the brains, mysteries, violence, action, excellent artwork, if you like any of these elements you're bound to find some interest in either Spiral or Death Note. While they both have completely different stories, both of the main characters are highly intelligent individuals able to plot out plans to get things their way. Although the differences between the two are rather minor, surprising plot twists and events are bound to pull you into either Death Note or Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna and leave you wanting for more.

Neither the stories nor the settings are similar but the main characters give off the same vibes. Shirou acts like Light: organized, proper, and uptight. No maniacal laughs though. He also takes issue with the L-like Kurokichi. Kuro is weird, mysterious, "all-knowing", somewhat impartial and aloof, just like L. He even has dark circles underneath his eyes and also has a kind of food fetish (milk in Kurokichi's case) Ririko looks like Misa with the hairstyle and gothic outfit. She's also pretty useless. Same thing. The characters of Shirokuro Kitan might as well have been copy-pasted from Death Note, otherwise heavily influenced by it. It's too  read more

The main characters are very much alike implementing their own brand of vigilante justice while also working for the very same police force chasing them. It also has the good version and dark version type of MC. It is very good so far and a definite read if you loved Death Note.

Both characters are cunning and can use a tool to kill criminals. But in When Night Falls, it's personal. There's a bit of a cat-and-mouse game as well in both but moreso in Deathnote.

Dr. Stone and Death Note are two very well-known Shonen Jump titles that feature a clash of wits between two intelligent dudes who are pretty observant and skilled in their own right. There are lots of highly detailed explanations behind their observations and decision-making that are as enthralling as the highly detailed art, especially in the background art department. Both are also considered must-reads by many diehard manga readers, so go ahead and give them a read!

While the settings are very different (modern day Japan in Death Note, medieval England in Bara no Souretsu), both are dark stories with power-hungry, villainous protagonists.

Both are thrillers told from an unusual perspective. In Death Note, it's the perspective of the murderer himself, while the protagonist of Bastard is a reluctant accomplice to one.

Very original psychological crime thrillers. A heavy conceptualization of what is good and what is evil and a person trying to change the society.

It has a couple of similar themes, if few. One idea is the creation of a superior race. Ayashi no Ceres and Death Note are very excellent series, and I highly reccomend them to anyone and everyone looking for a good story.

Shounen works with a seinen feel. Psychological story with a supernatural twist. Both are about death, have some violent and bloody scenes, and are very well-drawn and written.

Both Death Note and "The Cain Saga" aka Count Cain are about characters who search for mass murderer(s) in order to bring them to justice. Both are dark, but are lightened up by friendship, etc. Both have their bloody parts, but Cain is more gore afflicted than Death Note.
reportRecommended by B-Czar
Detective stories with one quirky detective. Remote deals with a series of cases and has a two-person investigation tag-team as compared to Death Note's single case and villain protagonist setup, but if you're into reclusive, sometimes misanthropic, and generally unconventional detectives, both L and Himuro have you covered.

If you enjoy the twists to Death note, you will LOVE all the twists in this manga. It always keeps you guessing and you never know what is going to happen next. If you like mangas that make you go "Wow" Then you will love this anime. If you did not like how they used religion in Death Note, do NOT read Angel Sanctuary.

The protagonists both fight for their own sense of justice with a special ability. Where one uses a notebook to create events to happen the other uses "ventriloquism" (he can make others speak in the manner he chooses). In both stories a rival appears who challenges the abilities of the protagonists and their sense of justice.
reportRecommended by DreamingSomeday
Solid psychological thrillers about killing people and the consequences. Clever, handsome, murderous male high schooler with incredible investigative talent. Goth is shorter and gorier, but has a similiar vibe - also because one of its chapters is about a note (lost by a killer).
reportRecommended by RenaPsychoKiller
Both are thrillers that present a criminal investigation from an unusual perspective. In Death Note, the protagonist is a mass mudrerer that plays cat and mouse games with the police. In Route End, we follow a man whose job it is to clean up crime scenes, and who becomes involved in a serial killer case.

These two serialisations follow protagonists who are well adept with tactics and strategy. They are cunning, deceptive, and would bypass moral boundaries to get results.

1. Both stories have villainous protagonists. 2. Both are tragedies about moral downfall of the main character after he is given power and freedom he didn't have before. 3. Both are suspenseful thrillers. 4. Little to no fanservice.

Both stories involve psychopathic characters and cat and mouse game between the protagonists and antagonists. Psychometer Eiji deals with a lot of serial murders and other intriguing cases. The main character in both series have a special power (Raito has the Death Note while Eiji has the power of psychometry).

If you read Death Note and your favorite parts were the moments of psychological analysis, this is the series to turn to next. The development of the main characters in each of these series', despite going in different paths, branch from similar mindsets. The themes of nihilism are palpable and very heavy at times, making for a truly dark (and not just in the "dark" sense of many TV anime) and compelling breakdown of our main characters, similar to that of Light Yagami.
reportRecommended by RedAutumnLeaf
Both involve supernatural beings: Shinigami in Death Note, zombies in Raiders. Not to mention that Misa & Clarion are almost identical.

They are both sort of psychological-thriller type reads with a supernatural element. If you were really into watching the psychological deterioration of Light and the battle between Light and L you would probably like Ousama Game. When you look it up though, make sure you get the right one, because there's another manga called Ousama Game that's yaoi. O_O

A lot of scenes in Karamazov no Kyoudai parody Death Note. Ivan Karamazov's story arc is basically Light Yagami's: to build a new world of justice. Also, both mangas talk about vengeance, justice, skepticism and intrigues.

In both, the plot is initiated by a bored Shinigami who wants to amuse himself by watching humans. In both, humans are offered Shinigami senses that can give them powers. In Death Note, the protagonists receives a notebook that can kill. In Shinigami Saikoro Game, the main character plays games of dice with his life at stake, and various possible rewards. Also, in both, the MC has a bit of crazy in him.

This is a great story with very interesting characters. The characters get lots of details and development. The world is unique and the main character is one of my favorites. The plot mostly revolves around carnivores and herbivores coexisting in a world with human like animals. The herbivores fear and look down at the carnivores. The carnivores have to fight their instincts and coexist. It may sound weird, but it is a extremely well written manga. The concept may sound weird but just give it a try.

Both involve a supernatural being coming into the human world in the form of manuscript. The supernatural being causes mayhem throughout the world while it sits back and observes amusedly. Police, detectives, and government powers are all involved in pursuing the manuscript linked to the supernatural being. There is lots of mystery, suspense, and darkness. Both MCs are consumed with pressure, responsibility, and power which makes them descend to madness.

With the help of eccentric yet incredibly intelligent orphans who look like they haven't slept in years, a detective investigation around the cruel incidents is launched. While Death Note is relatively vague with its depictions of violence, Denjin N includes a lot of graphic imagery that can be disturbing for some readers.

They try to maximize the supernatural power potentital to made the murder is not predictable.

Super Smartphone and Death Note are two Shounen Jump manga where the main character is a highly intelligent high school student who seems to be bored with his life when he gets a mysterious item with impossible abilities, with someone there to guide the main character into using it. Some people have even started calling Super Smartphone "Death Note 2.0", since MC uses it for what seems to be for the benefit of others and there's a lot of inner narration to spell out his deductions. Nothing crazy dark has happened yet unlike DN, though.

Drawn by the same mangaka, Death Note and Hello Baby involve criminals and death, providing an entertaining read. Hello Baby, an one-shot, brings more focus on the main characters themselves -- especially Kin's relationships with his girlfriend and "younger brother" -- while Death Note is more action-oriented in with a supernatural element (shinigami). These titles are very smart and are very detailed and most important of all no overpowered teenager who can destroy entire mountains or planets with a single super powerful finishing move

Admittedly, Death Note and Ouroboros are only similar at their core; they are both dark crime-drama manga series. However, both maintain this core really well. While Death Note uses the supernatural to explore man's dark nature (as well as its flawed protagonist), Ouroboros has realism and seinen-maturity on its side to do mostly the same. If you liked Death Note's atmosphere, Ouroboros would be a good fit.
