BIG SIMOOOOOOO
life kinda sucks rn hahha. I just watched Kara no Kyoukai 2 and saw an old post of yours that I agree with and I don't doubt that KnK 7 will resolve everything but there are 4 movies in between ;o; though so far they've been only 1 hour long so I guess I can see them as episodes. Also lol in KnK 1 I thought Shiki was some sort of robot/doll person because of the functional fake arm.
Belladonna is on Amazon if you've got Prime by the way. Enjoy it!
-Man Lain is a GOD TIER trip to the otherworld. I've been meaning to rewatch it for a while (ok, I want to rewatch basically everything I gave at least a 7), so I guess now's a perfect time to do it since that VN I'm reading put me in the perfect mood for it. And you don't seem to understand...
-Oh yes, definitely watch Texhnolyze as well. I personally didn't find it anywhere near as arresting as Lain, but it's still a one of a kind show. Though I'm kinda struggling to put into words why I don't like Tex much as Lain... Well, visually I definitely prefer Lain's more weird and experimental approach to Tex's brownish, earthish look (they both have striking imagery though), but there is something else about Lain that just draws me into its world. I guess I'll have to call it the atmosphere (I so overuse that word), which is such a bizarre mix of creepy and hypnotizing on one hand, but also oddly calm and incredibly introspective on the other. Tex feels much more grim, macho, ugly even (albeit deliberately), which is harder for me to love.
-The new Lupin III is suave as fuck, not as suave as The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (note to myself: FINISH THAT THING ALREADY), but suave nonetheless. And yes, I believe it's a continuation, same director/studio etc. Except this thime, the characters are en France! Quel plaisir hohohoho fuck my French is rusty :/
-Yuu Yuu Hakusho: pretty dope, pretty dope so far. But if it was as dope as HxH I would have already binged it twice by now. I'm 9 episodes in and the show still hasn't introduced a larger goal for the main characters, so right now it feels like a bunch of somewhat random/disconnected shounen mini-arcs. They're still intrinsically enjoyable, but I wish there was a bigger reason for me to care about any of it. HxH makes it clear from the get-go what Gon, Leorio and Kurapika are after (and wisely keeps Killua's motivations more nebulous), meaning that even though their journey takes many detours, there is always this larger goal and driving force to put things into perspective. I guess YYH is eventually going to introduce something similar.
-Re: washed out visuals (specifically, the really bright/white kind): Fair enough, it does fit with the summer vibe. It's just a visual style that doesn't tend to look very appealing to me; even early Aria has moments that are too washed out for me. The only exceptions are shows that are heavily stylized/surreal like Lain or Texhnolyze.
-Megalo Box: Fuck yes man. I knew you would like this series, I mean the Watanabe vibes are real, realer than real. This season's strongest start so far, though the new Lupin is not too far behind IMO. I like both considerably more than Steins;Gate 0. (My excitement for LOGH and Persona 5 is strongly tied to the strength of their respective source materials, so it wouldn't be fair to compare them to the other three.)
-The one thing that I find a bit weird about Megalo Box is that, apparently, the studio/director/someone decided to intentionally reduce the image quality to make it look like a gritty old school production. Uhhhhm. Fine? It's not huge issue for me, but... come on. I have HD versions of Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Akage no Anne on my hard drive. I will never go back to watching them in SD quality just for nostalgia's sake or anything. Oh well. Still a great looking series overall.
The character designs are what they are, I think I will get used to them soon enough. The new style works better for some characters than for others, e.g. Yang is a smoking hot motherfucker, Reinhard generally looks good and doesn't deviate too much from the original design, and Kircheis is... what have they done to poor Kircheis :/
Anyway, if this adaptation continues in this style, I'll definitely keep watching. My body is just ready. You know. Ready for the legend. The legend of legends. THE MOTERHFUCKING LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC FUCKING HEROES. nahmsayin
