Although not very similar aside from the "comedic sketches" format, Jashin-chan feels like a parody of Tohru being a serpent whose tail keeps getting cut up and served for food (although Kobayashi refuses to eat from it). They're also both about a human living with a supernatural creature.

Both of these shows have a peculiar mix of wholesome feels with lewdness. Both also involve a fantasy element entering the main character's life (gender swap/dragons) and them adapting to their new circumstances the best they can.

Both shows are comedies that seem potentially trashy or problematic on the surface, but quickly prove to be wholesome LGBT slice of life shows focused on found family and personal growth. While both do have aspects that deserve a more scrutinizing lens, both are largely net positives with much to offer. Dragon Maid is one of the best soft lesbian shows of its type, and Onimai is a surprisingly genuine exploration of gender transition and healing damaged relationships.

Both have their own peculiarities and ecchi references but what unifies both is the stoicism of the main character. What made Kobayashi-San and Mahiro-Chan detached from the real world and become stoic and depressed in the first place? Why Mahiro had no friends at all, before becoming a girl, and seeing possibility of living a fulfilled life. Same goes to Kobayashi-san, when she starts to accept eccentricities and surprises of life, by resisting the urge of not accepting Tohru in her life, her life changes for the best.

I love both of them and they both have real life references to my own life, like being software engineer, etc.. And I am really glad that I become more accepting of myself and others and life’s surprises like the characters in the both shows.

We find ourselves with 2 main characters not enjoying their lives whatsoever until something really changes in their life. 

Both animes are SoLs (and essentially CGDCTs) and share the same feel-good themes. Dragon Maid displays an interesting cast of colourful characters doing just about anything and everything for no particular reason; Onimai really does the same thing with it's own unique concept about how a useless neet changes his (hers?) life around.

 I can assure you that if you like one, you will certainly like the other.

When I first started watching Kobayashi-san in early winter 2017, I couldn't shake how I was reminded of I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying. Sure, the art style is pretty recognisable as Cool Kyou Shinja's, but the two are very similar tonally as well.

The two shows are primarily comedy focused. While the comedy may not be bust-a-gut hilarious, it is very comfortable. Both shows feature a series of recurring jokes that your mileage may vary on, but personally, they never failed to illicit a smile. I'd compare the the comedy style of these shows, and especially the recurring jokes, to a good cup of coffee in the morning. Sure, it's nothing you haven't had many times before, but sometimes it's exactly what you need.

"Exactly what you need" was unexpectedly a great segue to what I feel Cool Kyou Shinja's strength is as an author. Both of these works fantastically capture the elation that comes with finding the perfect person. You can go to work day in and day out forever, but once you can come home every day to that perfect, goofy person, life feels a lot better. Kobayashi has this in Tohru, and Kaoru in Hajime. The other's antics may drive the other crazy, but it's always with a smile. I think the ending theme of I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying explains it perfectly:
"I always walked alone before, wandering along with the flow. When I tried to make a smile, it'd always be stiff, Reeling in the holes in my heart. I Feared being lonely, Wondering if I'd live alone forever… Now There's nothing to be afraid of!"

I guess this ended up more of a love letter to Cool-kun and these two works, but I guess this is okay. If you liked either show for its comedic style or its romance, you'll find the other show similar. read more

"Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken," literally "I can't understand what my husband is saying," is an anime based on a manga by the same author as Kobayashi's Maid Dragon's manga, Cool Kyoushinja. While Maid Dragon's art is altered somewhat as a result of being animated by studio Kyoto Animation, viewers will easily be able to see that "I can't understand what my husband is saying" is still almost immediately similar to Maid Dragon in appearance. 

More than appearance, however, is the similarity in its writing, and when it comes to writing, this is a series similar to "Maid Dragon" like few others. 

While many will take Maid Dragon and suggest viewers go to other Kyoto Animation series or other monster girl series for a similar fix, if you are looking for a series that has a similar FEELING to Kobayashi's Maid Dragon, if you're looking for an anime that provides a similar feeling of genuineness, of family, and of warmth, then you should look no further than Cool Kyoushinja's other works for more, and "I can't understand what my husband is saying" is perhaps the best place to start.

Plus, it and its sequel are a series of shorts, so it's not like it will take you that long to get through anyway. read more

Both are wholesome, comedic and somewhat ecchi slice of life anime with a strong focus on family and adult life. Also, both were written by Cool-kyou Shinja, who once again excels at character writing.

Both are anime that feature a human and a different species (demon, dragon) coexisting in the same house and becoming each other's family. Be it Princess Suya in the demon castle or Tohru's presence in Kobayashi's residence, both these girls change the way of the household completely, making the ordinary daily life different and way more fun than it was before. 

Those two series also have a very similar feeling: Overall they seem to be about the pure comedy of the day by day life of the characters, but the undertones of it carry some layers of drama that will make you emotional when you least expect it. They're heartwarming and cute shows, and if you liked one, you will probably like the other. read more

Although at first it may not seem like they're alike at all, they both have the same humorous yet heartwarming vibe, present friendships really well and all stuff of the sorts. A majority of the main cast are otherwordly beings( dragons and aliens ). They also feature many openly LGBT characters (but don't cross over into full yuri/yaoi territory),

Both of them have extremely nonsensical plot with crazy characters with special abilities that ruin another characters life attempt to live peacefully. They both have a great theme of family and togetherness, and share a similar style of humor and storytelling.

They both have the same tone and feel. Also the voice actor for the main characters are the same in both shows. They have the same kind of humor, they're light-hearted and they're both about someone who gets an unusual guest that starts living in their home.

Cute girls with superpowers find themselves doing cute things around town with puny humans. Ika certainly acts like she's a civilization destroying dragon but doesn't show off as much power and everyone just accepts she has a weird head thing while Dragon Maid each new character has superpowers and is hiding. Both are great comedies and have a touching moment here or there.

A hard working female main character of rather stoic demeanor finds herself sharing her flat with an non-human. 

The series are slice of life, with a good bit of comedy thrown in. Despite the obviously crazy setup of the story (alien freeloader/dragon maid), this background is only ever hinted at, never explored indepth. Instead, the human main character is center to the show and steals it, too. Having no male lead prevents both serious from following romance/harem clichées.

Both are slice of life featuring supernatural beings who come to live with a human protagonist on Earth. Whereas the supernatural beings in Dragon Maid are dragons with magic, the supernatural beings in Urusei Yatsura are aliens with technology.

Both are very cute and wholesome.
Both have the two main characters in a wholesome servant-master situation.
Both have a loveable cast of side characters.

The main differences are that Kobayashi-san focuses on WLW romance while Beelzebub's romance is heterosexual.

Both have the main character be simped over in a gay manner by people of the same sex while said main character is not explicitly gay themselves. In Kobayashi's case, this is shown to take a much more serious tone as nobody ever attempts to harm Komi. The simps also work at a maid cafe. If Agari is your favorite character for some reason you would like this in my OPINION.

The main characters Tooru and Kyouko have a really similar... aura?  ^^'  Like, their crazy straightforward personalities, and their silly over-the-top actions, and the poses they make, and the way they talk, right down to their overflowing love for one of the other female characters, and the way they express it.  It was killing me while I was trying to figure out who Tooru reminded me of, until I finally remembered Kyouko and everything clicked into place.  

Both of the shows are also really enjoyable slice-of-life/comedy animes that make the most of their really interesting and diverse groups of characters, and are very shoujo ai.  Good shows, watch 'em both. read more

Lesbian vampires versus Lesbian Dragons
Although the shows are definitely way different they're both hella cute, and have a few similarities.
Both have the two main characters, one who keeps flirting with the other, who seems annoyed at first but seems to soften as the show goes on.
Both have nice friendship and love themes, as well as fantasy elements.
So although different, if you enjoyed one I think you'll probably enjoy the other.

Both animal have several cute dragon girls (and a black male dragon) learning how to interact with humans. Both are cute, both have lolis without being gross about it, both are well-animated, and both are funny (although Dragon Crisis can be a bit more serious).

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii addpermalink

Kobayashi is fantastic while Wotaku is above average. Both shows are exciting departures from genre tropes. Kobayashi is slice of life from an adult perspective (still lots of moe though), while Wotaku is an adult rom-com where the relationship begins in episode 1 (and is free of any nonsense drama). In both the way that the adult relationships are handled result in heartwarming moments

They just want to live peaceful lives but they are unlucky because around them happens a lot of stuff. Kobayashi is similar to a certain extent in questing what she did to deserve this. You will find yourself entertained every second of the anime.

The concept is kinda similar. We see the daily life of the characters, mostly at home in their comfort zone. Also there are characters from another world. Sometimes we get to know more about the past life in the other world. Another similarity is that magic can be used in our world. Both series have their unique style of making jokes.
