Both are anime that feature a human and a different species (demon, dragon) coexisting in the same house and becoming each other's family. Both are about hilarious hijinks of magical creatures. Kobayashi is about a magical creature in the human world, while Maoujou de Oyasumi is about a human creating chaos in a magical setting. Both characters grow to prefer their 'adopted' homes over their original homes.

The humor in these two are very similar. If you like the humor that Kobayashi has then you will like this one. It is another anime that is just there for pure humor. Another slice of life comedy that follows a loose plot full of humour. Just an day by day quest for better sleep that leads to funny situations.
