Tired of watching ordinary detective shows? Well then, these series should keep your mind serene for the time being. More than just your typical detective series, the mixture of excellent action scenes and fine comedy followed by a robust storyline is not only eye catching but worthy of attention. ‘Kekkai Sensen’ places its focal point in a city where the diversity of species is nothing short of palpable. Aside from the strong plot and exemplary music, the character interaction in-between dying situation is something to be applaud whether it’s comedy or something crucial. Similar kind of character dynamics, back-and-forths between light slice of life humor and serious action scenes, split character group factions, and splashes of the supernatural (featured often but not the center of the story). Details on similarities: - Main characters (Atsushi/Mikado) are inexperienced and weak; grows through his experiences with his new friends. - Main supporting characters (Dazai/Kida) are light-hearted, humorous, but also have streaks of dark pasts and experiences in them. They also are protectively brotherly towards the main character. - Both animes have casts of supporting characters and various "faction groups" that they swear their allegiances to. And the supernatural powers from these characters are similar  read more

Both series involve detective agencies with people who have extraordinary abilities. There's a certain similarity in tone. In dealing with people who are prejudiced against those with power balanced against the humor of these wildly different personalities working together.

- Produced by the same studio - The protagonist vibe is similar: the worrysome dorky muscle-man + weak ironic conman as the brain of the duo - Both are more about the action than the lore, we get thrown into the story and everything is magic in the ways we don't understand at all - In both cases, there's a mystery in the plot and the mystery of the characters/their past - The amount of ironic type of comedy in them is just ugh

Like Noragami, Bungou Stray Doys talks about a MC who does not have a home, and he is stray. Both anime are pretty dark with good fights, and pretty funny too And how can I forget, they both have "fight words" for their special powers

if you enjoyed watching bungo stray dogs, you're most likely to enjoy moriarty the patriot as well. or if you enjoy detective stories in general. whether you are a sherlock holmes fan or not, moriarty the patriot is a fun watch, for sure.

Both shows deal with quirky (pun intended) characters with special powers and that's where the overt similarities end, but I've heard BSD described as BNHA with guns and that's honestly not too inaccurate.

Both series have a wide and diverse cast that each have their own in depth lore and association amongst others in the cast. Both series have gang vs enforcement vs focused character(s) that each compliment the other to progress the plot. I think BSD fans will be pleased with ships, visuals, voice acting, and tragedies that are well loved within Stray Dogs itself. (Plus there is background manga lore that really provides the emotions BSD early season 2 brought)

Tokyo Ghoul and Bungou Stray Dogs are both series that have two groups of people who aren't entirely human that are fighting against each other. Each series has a lot of action that takes place in alleyways. In Bungou Stray Dogs, the main villain (Ryuunosuke Akutagawa) has the ability Rashamon, which is fairly similar to the Kagune from Tokyo Ghoul. Also, the protagonists in each series is very new to the group of people they are working with.

- Both deals with mafia-related scenarios - Mostly male cast of characters - Emphasis on literature
report Recommended by cornonacob
A group of misfit supernaturals wherein the mafia gets involved and death and staying dead are pretty much plot devices played with. Large cast with all kinds of fun tropes, and a similar aesthetic as far as clothing and the scenery goes.

-Both detective series -Main character has a villain they wish to take down -Both teams have well rounded characters Although these two series are not super similar, I find I recommend Bungou for Psycho-pass lovers because it provides some of the same thrills of detective work that Pyscho-pass brings. There are very few detective shows in anime that I enjoy, however I enjoyed both of these because of the thrill they provide.

The characters on these two shows possess special abilities that varies from one person to another. Another similarity is the characters are gathering members with special abilities to join their group.

- detective agency with people who have special power - the main Character takes a 'monster' to the agency to join them

This is simple since on the one hand there is the port mafia and on the other hand you have the mafia in darker than black led by wang shao tang. Supernatural elements are given to the contractors in darker than black as well as the actors in stray dogs. Overall personally I got the same vibe while watching these anime even though I didn't like darker than black as much as stray dogs but that doesn't change the fact that both anime are comparable.

Both involve a mafia-like organisation: Bungou has the Port Mafia and Ramens has the Kakyuu Group and the Murder Inc Both have cool and badass characters

Overall very similar, both have characters that are part of a supernatural police force/detective agency brimming with detectives that have special powers. Both have comedy and action.

I feel that they have a similar vibe. They both include some seriously smart/manipulative characters. Both stories also throw a lot of twists throughout the story. Although bungou stray dogs has a lot more character development and show many different story angles.

The characters from both anime have the same names based on Japanese authors from the past and there are similarities between the characters in BSD and BTO.
report Recommended by Gyokusei
Both shows are about members of mafias that are at war, characters with supernatural powers, a high intellect to fight, bizarre, varied and colorful personalities, and a mix of humor and drama that can be considered a show for both adults and young people.
report Recommended by Kartogamo
Both have a primarily male cast. Both feature men in suits, action, a secret government organization, mafia, the military, and supernatural powers wielded by individuals. Both have an orphan main character with a cocky ENTP mentor. Some characters have similar powers to characters in the other show. Bungou Stray Dogs is better, but there's a strong chance you'll enjoy one if you like the other.

Also to me, the powers in both seriers (all parts) seem to be somewhat similar. The powers can take often take form apart from the user. They even have a certain degree of autonomy, and individual names. Certain limitations apply, for example regarding range. The "stand" system in Jojo seems more elaborate to me though. However, the more chaotic manifestations in Bungou Stray Dogs can be a fun watch too.

- Both follow a person joining a society of sorts against their will - Similar visual comedy, both have over exaggerated faces and arrows and emotions shown in symbols - Both are directed by Takuya Igarashi, same style of sarcastic comedy and flow of jokes They are different in the the fact that Bungou Stray Dogs is more serious than OHSHC.

The feeling of the Bungou Stray Dogs anime feels a lot like Karneval. Also, the main characters are somewhat "naive" and just go with the flow. The art look alike, as well as the plot (two different organisations with quircky characters and superpowers) Lastly, the voice actor of Dazai is the same as Yogi's from Karneval. The characters in both anime are lovable and somewhat unique.

-both involve battles of two sides involving life and death situations -both involve detective work -both involve characters that are confident and intelligent in their abilities and try to outsmart each other in my opinion they kinda have similar vibes when they are investigating and solving cases, plus they are both fantastical in the sense that in death note there is the Shinigame and in stray dogs the characters have their own unnatural abilities which ties in with the unnatural power to kill with the death note. this is just my opinion :)

Both series involve an MC character that joins a special squad. Each person in the squad has a single, unique skill. Where they differ is in the nature of the squads: the MC joins a special detectives squad in Bungou Stray Dogs while the MC in Akame ga Kill joins a squad of assassins. In both series, the squads face an immensely powerful and cruel group. Neither series holds back on the violence as well.

Bungou Stray Dogs' protagonists are based off famous Meiji period writers such as Osamu Daizai and Edogawa Ranpo; Aoi Bungaku is a compilation of animated works of several very famous Japanese writer, including Osamu Daizai. They're very different shows, but if you watched Bungou Stray Dogs and are interesting in seeing some of the featured writer's works animated, check out Aoi Bungaku. If you watched Aoi Bungaku and want to see some of the writers that was featured turned into bishounen with designs, personalities, and magical powers (very) loosely based on the writer's works, you will enjoy Bungou Stray Dogs.

The animes share a similar tone of comedy. SZS is slice of life whereas BSD is action. The main character in SZS is a suicidal maniac, similar to Dazai.

My reason for saying Get Backers is similar to Stray Dogs is pretty simple and straight forward. Without spoiling too much from Get Backers, both have the main character found by a brother like figure, both have a main character that grew up an orphan. Both have a main character with a similar personality(kind at heart) Both have a detective like agency. Get Backers was one of the first, duo/group jack of a all trades detective agency manga, and certainly it did not end up the last, it should be read and watched.

Misfits doing work. Great Pretender and Bungo Stray Dogs follow misfits who take on gangs in their respective style. Great Pretender follows Edamura and Laurent in their con artist schemes. With BSD following Atsushi and eccentric but clever Dazai with the Armed Detective Agency in helping with detective work and keeping Yokohama at balance against the Port Mafia. Both are good action anime, with character schemes made to throw the anime about the place.

Both dealing with mysteries and sassy detectives. I just get familiar, fun, badass vibes from each anime. However, Bungou Stray Dogs includes magic while Fugou Keiji is different in that there is none. But besides that factor they're very similar!

Similar theme with the mafia and opposing teams fighting against one another; with elements of treachery and betrayal as portrayed in 91 days. Although Bungou Stray dogs contains more supernatural themes unlike 91 days, it includes the excessive use of guns and weaponry; murder and secrets. It is hard to find unpredictable characters in an anime and both anime have MCs with this persona. As you watch both anime, the past of the main characters unravels soundlessly.
report Recommended by Pearlonthesea
In both animes, the characters have unique powers in which some of them are also very similar to Toaru Majutsu no Index. For example the main character - Touma has a very similar power to Dazai as he too is able to deactivate any ability that another peson has.

In both the anime they can turn into demons. And in both if they become that animal they can hardly control themselves.

A jaded boy with low self worth after the world convinces him that he's an unlovable monster who won't ever succeed in life. He finds a supportive group not only willing to accept him for who he is, but also repair what others tore down inside him. Action, fighting, motivational speeches, character growth and healing. Comedy on the side.

Both of the main characters are solving crime cases and makes many mentions to the real world issues. Music is very pleasing in both of the animes- not only openings and endings but the background music as well. If you are a person of culture, books, plot twists ; then this is the anime for you! In Kuroshitsuji season 1, plot does not fully explain main character's background, so does Bungou stray dogs. The structure is quite similar, but both of them are very unique in their own ways!

Both anime are tagged as Supernatural,Comedy and Action.BSD's main character Atsushi has one of the most wanted super powers just like Seigi in Taboo Tattoo.Although the supporting characters are really different, the MCs are almost the same:both had a sorrowful past and both are trying to get stronger, since the lives of the ones they love may be in danger. Both shows share some strange comedy and pretty much the same course of action, since the both MCs encounter their future affiliated party because of their super powers

These shows aren't too similar in terms of plot, but I feel that if you loved the characters and their relationships in one show, you will like the other. As both of these series progress, I found Koro-Sensei (Assassination Classroom) and Dazai (Bungo Stray Dogs) to be very similar in personality and past experiences that shaped them into the person they've become. I also found Akutagawa (Bungo Stray Dogs) to be very similar to The Reaper (Assassination Classroom), and Oda Sakunosuke (Bungo Stray Dogs) played a very similar role to Aguri Yukimura (Assassination Classroom) in encouraging Koro-Sensei and Dazai to change their way of life.

Drifters is a series where a bunch of famous Japanese historical figures fight together. Bungo Stray Dogs is a series where a detective agency comprised of famous Japanese authors who have supernatural powers. Both shows have some bloody sections, in Drifters the blood and gore is a huge selling point. Each series has some comedy, but is serious when it should be.

Format is 2 seasons of episodic police/detective drama. Bungou has a similiar, but slightly brighter noir detective aesthetic. Similiar comedic elements interject the main story. Excellent character development (especially Season 2 Opening Arc). This series covers themes such as redemption and regret. Well executed fight scenes and a good pacing between backstory and progressing an overall narrative (in this way Bungou Stray Dogs might be better).

Detectives. Although Bungo Stray Dogs and Gosick are vastly different, both are still based on detective action. Some of which involve actual deductions in both, with the diverging stuff ranging from action gang war (Bungo Stray Dogs) to mystery-lore SoL detail (Gosick). If you are looking for mostly action with some detective work here and there dwelling as far down as to go into gang background and so, take Bungo Stray Dogs compared to a more actual detective anime with more than just that via mysteries within one's own, take Gosick. If nothing else, they are both animated by bones.

Scout. AB and BSD both feature a protagonist who is unlettered of the complicated surrounding they find themself in. With this, they are both forced to join this crew in their mission that needs every bit of help they can find from rarities as themselves. AB does this with Otonashi joining the SSS in their quest to get revenge on God. BSD does this with Atsushi joining the Armed Detective Agency in policing against the crimes within Yokohama. Both are good action and comedy anime with both having the slightest touch of romance.

Uncontrollable. Instead of similar plots, Bungo Stray Dogs and Terror in Resonance bring forward the same type of world in where police cannot control the current state of the city/country. In Undead Murder Farce, literary characters are referenced as being in the world like Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula. They both live in supernatural worlds with a Victorian-inspired aesthetic. Both shows have a detective elements and are action-packed with mature storytelling about adults. Both shows are very character-driven. The characters are well-written and deep and the heart of the shows. There’s mastermind characters in both.

Both anime dabble in the ideas of duty and friendship. If you're looking for captivating characters, BSD and Kyoukai no Kanata both have them. They both have awesome action scenes. Both have supernatural elements. Both have awesome OPs and EDs.

The animation in these two series is remarkably similar, especially during scenes that include fighting. They also have the same feel to them, while also having an exciting tone and mood. The series both include detective agencies that don't just do everyday detective work, as well as, main characters with complicated pasts. The protagonists of each series also exhibit complications with controlling their powers, and seem to see them as a hindrance. Though Bungou Stray Dogs has is more of a comedy then Tenrou: Sirius the Jaeger is, they both effortlessly show the struggles and hardships that the characters in the series face.

Both have supernatural elements as well as strong association with a city. They also show the viewer opposing factions in a relatively unbiased way.

the MCs in these animes are both calm and collective and complete badasses. They alwasy seem to know whats going on before it even happens. Bungou stray dogs is a little different cause it doesnt take place in a school but its definitely worth the watch and is by far one of my favorite animes ever

Both are very well-written and character-driven seinen with deep well rounded characters. Both are violent action anime with what you get being different each episode instead of a structured format. Both have an adult cast and mix humor and tense moments with great effect. Highly recommend you watch both!

Both feature an adult cast, the mafia, action, and violence. Both feature a handsome, ex-mafioso ENTP male main character. Love of Kill's target audience is women, while Bungou Stray Dogs is very popular with female anime fans.
