Hello there
From the bastion of french in North America, hello! (That's Quebec in Canada btw)
I am a speed skater on the Canadian National Development Team. I am also still a student.
My first experience with anime was Vhs that my mother had from shows she watched when she was a kid herself. So I ended up starting to watch anime as a toddler. I was watching Vicky the Viking, Space Pirate Captain Herlock and a few more that I forgot the names of. Growing up, I watched Naruto and Bleach and now I dabble in all genres. I still have a preference for mystery and supernatural.
As for manga, wanting to know the full story of Bleach, HxH and One Punch Man made made me start reading backwards. It took the pandemic to make me start to read regularly and now I am enjoying reading classics as well as newer stories.
I always take into consideration production quality and writing quality when I rate shows. I don't think it's simply about loving a show or not, you have to recognize good things in everything.
My favorites are the series as a whole, but I display my favorite part of said series.

I have quite a lot to say about Berserk. The main character is probably the worst aspect of it for me personally. I don't find Guts to be a character worth investing in. Almost every chapter centered around him and his group after Golden Age was an absolute drag to read. The storytelling quality is also very inconsistent. Black Swordsman arc was really lame and boring, and didn't serve as a good introduction for me like everyone says it's supposed to. I would've preferred if it started with Golden Age. Golden Age was good, 8/10. But it's not the greatest arc of all time as many say, it's not even the best part of Berserk. The creativity and artistic aspects of Berserk are really good, the scenery in the eclipse is awesome. It really drops in quality after Golden Age until the finale of Conviction arc where Griffith returned. This is mostly due to the fact that Miura just sucks at writing compelling villains that most of his story progression is based around. I personally find every antagonist besides Griffith to be absolute garbage. That square headed priest, Genishka, that stupid pirate captain, etc. Falcon of the Milennium Empire is my favorite arc, and the Falconia chapter at its conclusion is the best part of Berserk. 10 straight chapters with barely any Guts and just back to back fantastical plot progression with mostly compelling characters. The only time I enjoyed Guts centered chapters was that flashback with him in the prison as a kid with that flower fairy. The panelling in the manga is also really bad, it feels like he draws the panels individually and drags them on the page with Powerpoint.
I just don't like overpowered main characters, which Guts most definitely is. There's never anything at stake in the story when he's around. Pretty much no major character has died since Golden Age, and Guts somehow always wins. The cast that surrounds Guts after the eclipse is one of the worst ever. Puck and Isidro are horrible characters I just hate seeing on screen. The comedic relief is absolute garbage. I don't care about Schierke. Farnese became a decent character only near the end and Serpico was the only good character from the beginning. Casca was just some straight male fantasy basic tsundere character in the start and near the end when she gets her sanity back she became absolutely bland with absolutely nothing special about her, because her entire character in the start revolved around her relationship with Guts, and now that their characters are apart from each other she has almost zero actual traits.
The pirate captain storyline was proof in my opinion that Miura just lost his motivation and direction with the story after Golden Age. It seemed like he watched Pirates of the Caribbean once and decided to add some stuff from it in the story, making it all up as he went on. It's genuinely such a bad storyline I had to force myself to continue.
The fights, which even though the story pretends to be something other than a battle manga, it has lots of, are really subpar. The choreography is boring, just Guts swinging his big sword through a bunch of fodder. The paneling in the fights is lazy, with like multiple images of one character in one panel showing them moving from place to place and such.
It's also not as deep as it tries to be. For me it just felt like battle manga with gore and rape. You could remove the gore and rape and make the characters a bit younger and you'd have something straight out of Weekly Shounen Jump. I don't like stories that try to be something they're not, and Berserk is definitely not some deep mature manga with insight into the human psyche or some shit. Why is it even listed as "psychological"? The "psychological" aspect is just Guts' mindset changing in reaction to events in the story, something that is just basic storytelling. Is it "psychological" when Luffy gets depression and shock after Ace dies? They're about the same when it comes to psychological depth.
Basically Guts is just too much of a straight man fantasy main character, with no real likable traits after Golden Age. It comes down to personal taste, I'm not saying everything I listed is objective, they're based around my preference, which includes not liking boring straight male overpowered main characters that serve as some "he just like me!!" for young impressionable teens. I prefer main characters like Satou Tatsuhiro.
The chapters newer chapters after Miura's death are also pretty bad it feels like they're trying to rush to complete the story by just forcing a bunch of returning characters back into the story and jumping to build towards the climax.
When it comes to mature dark historical fantasy I prefer a song of ice and fire.
What's so great about lolis anyways? 🥱 Why not choose the tall katana-wielding blonde-haired girl? She looks much more appealing. Same with her. I believe she is Kanbaru
Oh, I see. I haven't seen/read the Monogatari series but that character is Shinobu right? The 1000 yr old loli
Nope. I do plan on reading/watching it someday
