Besides the fact they're both from the same manga-ka, they are both stories about the interpersonal relationships with others, illustrated with the perfect contrast between other dynamic characters and the overall tone and color of their lives. The use of real-life based drama fleshes out the characters which genuinely immerses you to experience the lives of these characters. They're both aimed towards the adult demographic respectively! (Seinen and Josei)

Both are really well done slice of life series that focus on students attending college focusing on artistic subjects (fine arts for Honey and Clover and classical music for Nodame Cantabile). The artistic style in both series is similar as well with well rounded humor to balance things out. I also can't help but see similarities between Morita and Nodame. I keep thinking that Nodame is the female version of Morita. :D

Both are about a guy who doesn't really know what he wants to do with the rest of his life, but then meets a girl who is a genius in the arts. Both are within the school setting as well. Though one is throughout college and the other high school. The other main characters seem similar to each other as well.

Right now I am madly in love with Kimi ni Todoke. WHY?? Well because it reminds me so much of my favorite anime series... Honey and Clover. Although the stories are really different from one another they both have the same feel and tone (right down to the pastelly art style ^_^ ). Both series focus on a central theme of self discovery and friendship and love. The type of humor in both series is very similar too and both series have a knack for giving you lovely portrayals of the characters' thoughts and feelings.

While H.C is on a university setting, KTB is on High School but it has similar pace, similar friendships and even characters with similar personalities (the serious hardworking guy that wears glasses and is in love with a much older woman (Mayama/Kaname), the funny guy that always makes parodies (Morita/Chizuru), a girl from their age that is very small and used to be closed to others until she met them (Hagu/ Mary), a sensitive kind guy (Takemoto/ Shun), a girl that has an unrequited love for the serious guy (Yamada/Hisako). The difference is, instead of an older guy that is part of the group (Shuuji),  read more

Both of these animes have a large prospect in the slice of life point of view and the drama in these animes are overwhelming. >_> While Nana concentrates on Music, Honey and Clover concentrates on Art, and they both display the characters of these anime trying to pursue a career toward these things.

Both concentrates on each characters development and self seeking.

Mokura ga Ita has the same feel as Honey and Clover. It might be because of the insert songs or the animation.

On one hand Genshiken doesnt have romantic stories. But still it's a slice of life and narration is rather melancholic. If you like calm series about normal life, so you can enjoy Genshiken as well as Honey and Clover

Similar in that both series deal with young adults/adolescence either pursuing their dream or going on a journey of self-discovery.

The joy of meeting people and the sadness of parting with them - both Honey and Clover and 5cm/s focus on this aspect of life. As a movie, 5cm/s is more artistic and compressed while HnC accompanies its characters for several years which makes the viewer's experience even more real, beautiful and bittersweet.

Both involve college drama and romance where love polygons is the predominant theme. Other than that, both have a lot of light hearted comedic moments all around as well.

Both are about finding your place in the world and the process of becoming an adult.

Both series deal with 5 friends in a school setting. (Honey and Clover in college). Both are slice-of-life comedies that also have drama mixed in. Both are VERY character centric.

Both are Josei and have a love polygon where almost everyone´s love is unrequited. Both give you the same feeling and have excellent voice actors and soundtrack.

A tale of new friends, new memories, blossoming love and forgetting the past. Follow our main cast of characters as they grow into new people through the love of art - and - music. Both anime use music and insert songs to evict emotion as well as excellent monologues and dialogues between characters to create complex character relationships and bonds. Both shows have a love triangle(s), broken hearts, new discoveries and reaching for the future.

Both series have the same atmosphere to them, and both of them deal with groups of friends and life changes. Both are quite serious or have serious undertones.

Both anime have similliar feel, how they empasize deep meaning of both life, and relationship. not to mention they have a lot of same seiyu. The ending song both sung by Suneohair. If you like arakawa, surely you'll love honey and clover and vice versa.

Both shows have: -Comedy and romance. -A cast full of charming characters, all very different from each other. -A show focused on love, friendship and different kinds of affections and relationships. -Characters dealing with realistic conflicts.

After watching the first two episodes of Tonari I can say that both Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun and Honey and Clover have both the same Comedy Style. I can't say how the drama will be in Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, but despite that they are pretty much the same, so anyone who liked Honey and Clover and looks for a similar anime will probably (depends on how Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun ends) like this and vice versa.

Watching this show reminds me Honey and Clover a lot. Both are coming-of-age stories revolving around people who either want to move on from their bittersweet experiences or to be loved by someone they really like the most.

Interesting and very funny characters. Both Anime(s) do have some moments that will shake your hear to its core, and can be serious. Nevertheless, the comedy is very nice and I can assure you that you will have a fun time watching either! But just watching one of these only, is not enough. Watch both!

Although there is a huge difference when it comes to the art, both of these shows deal with college-life and growing-up in a way that's easy to relate with.

well.. it's my other favorite drama [without all the science-fiction-y unrealistic elements].. great animation, some of the best i've seen.. and the characters are solid.. romance, whatnot.. it's all there and my guess is that if you liked honey and clover you'd like this one as well.

While the setting on these two animes is very different, the themes flowing through them are very similar; Love, Friendship and Trust. The reliance on these themes makes for great story telling with perfectly executed character development. If you like the more serious side of H&C, then definately check this one out (that's not to say that Gankutsuou doesnt have its share of laughs).

Both are light-hearted slice-of-life shows with just the right amount of romance, comedy, and drama. Overall, the general atmosphere gives off a "refreshing" feeling as well.

They happen to tell us a wholesome story about the coming of age struggles, love, and friendship of very colorful and relatable characters. And lots and lots of beautiful art... As an art lover myself, who couldn't have the chance of studying in such an arts-based environment, these heartwarming stories mean a lot when it comes to getting yourself up and doing something to follow your dreams. These are a must-watch for all art lovers who love to be inspired by hard-working and creative souls!

These shows consist of a group of friends who are trying to make it in a challenging industry. The characters are dealing with the early years of transitioning from school to the work workforce. Their minds are preoccupied with questions about their desires, goals, and futures. Shirobako feels like Hachimitsu to Clover but with a larger focus on the industry instead of romance.

Firstly both anime are slice of life anime which deals with daily acticities. Both anime are not exactly the romance anime but it can be considered as one. And the most important part of thier similarities is that there is no cliche in it and the in the entire run of anime there is no nonsense sub-plot and any of that bullshit. Both anime portrayed the matured side of "Love" or "Romance". Most Comedies fail because they consciously want to be funny or absurd or insane, as opposed to an honest spontaneity of characters merely being themselves -- a sort of anarchy of will. Fumoffu is a masterpiece of Comedy as Art, and no other uncompromising creativity can be seen elsewhere than in Honey and Clover. The punchlines, the exaggerations, the histrionics are all well-timed and natural. Fumoffu especially puts great detail and depth in the script, e.g. a professor not merely wanting to appear like a bore blabbering nonsensical philosophical jargon but actually makes a solid argument in the Alpbach Symposium and the deconstruction of the  read more

It’s no secret that fruits basket is my favorite anime, so trust me when I say this recommendation comes from a very genuine place as a HUGE fruba fan. In my mind, both of these shows are masterpieces. Essentially, if you enjoy the mature side and darker themes of fruba, Honey and Clover is likely to become a beloved title of a similar caliber. H&C is a comedy/romance/drama much like fruits basket. It’s a coming of age story about young adults in an arts college as they tackle things like love triangles, figuring out their paths in life, finding jobs, and unrequited love. Honey and Clover and Run with the Wind are both shows about a bunch of college students practising a common activity and getting to know themselves while doing it. They're both character driven shows, not having a lot as for a plot per say, but making up for it with great character development. They both put a lot of emphasis on self discovery tough HnC with a romance twist and Kaze ga with sports as the outlet for all that. Anyway, I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to live a very warm experience / searching for a new favourite comfort anime.

Both tell a lot through music and include plenty of it within the anime itself. Also, both have a deeper reflection than what meets the eye at first. The stories, although including art/comedy in the case of H&C or magic/politics in the case of Natsu no Sora, center in life itself.
report Recommended by Yakarin
Despite of the completely different stories, both are about a group of friends and they focuse on drama, romance, love triangles and unrequited loves, but honey and clover is more realistic and the other is fantasy oriented. I completely sure you'll like both because of the romance aspect.

The characters are similar in both anime. Both anime revolves around a group of people and their dreams and romance life. The characters are forced to choose between their dreams and romance. Many characters have unrequited love.

Similar comedy, very similar characters, the plot is in adult world, maybe there isn't so many deph in the story, but it is like a comedy when something like Morita tries to hit on a sexually oblivious girl :D

From the first episode, Hachimitsu to Clover reminded me of Gokinjo Monogatari. Both has the same setting of art school and both follow the characters as they try to make sense of life, pursue love, and find their place in life.

I think Love Hina has more comedy then Hachimitsu to Clover. Both both have that "friends groups," an idiot character in that group, characters that have unrequited love, and main characters that are students.

Both Honey and Clover and Tanaka-kun are lighthearted, on the edge of melancholic, relaxed and showcase some of the small and rare beautiful things in life that are normally overlooked. They both are about the everyday problems and thoughts of students. More than specifically this or that, it has a certain vibe, and I think one who enjoys Honey and Clover might enjoy this, without trying to compare them. I think the other way around would also apply.

Now that I think about it, these two are very similar. A group of five friends dealing with depression, insecurities, and complicated love situations, but at the same time they're also just having fun. Though, Imosae was FAR more lighthearted than HachiKuro was. Imosae is like HachiKuro for dummy, but I don't mean it in a bad way..

Hachimitsu To Clover is set in an art school and follows different characters on their life as art students & creative professionals. Both series explore themes of work, love, and life. Similar to Fune Wo Amu’s main character, everyone discovers meaning in the mundane in unique and unexpected ways. Both Hachimitsu To Clover and Fune Wo Amu share the same lightheartedness and slice of life aspects.

Genshiken season 2 shares the setting of a group of young college student friends and their daily life, romance, and personal growth. Compared to season 1 this similarity is even stronger because episodic "otaku parade" episodes are replaced with the development of interpersonal relations of the group. This season is as close to H&C vibes as it gets, of all anime I watched.

Both animes have the female target audience and occur in school/university settings. The story of Pops is very similar to the love triangle lived by Yamada, Mayama and Harada, involving characters of different ages.

A similar college life story structure. The plot's are pretty simplistic but that's ok because what Honey & Clover & Maison Ikkoku both have is strong character writing, althoughe Honey & Clover has more main characters that it gives individual focus to than Maison does. Nevertheless, both of them are down to earth stories about adults trying to make it in their lives and achieve their goals. Both series show the progression of the characters during many years and how their dreams change. In both series art is a big part (manga in Bakuman. and sculptures/painting in Honey and Clover) as well as romance.

Self-discovery is a strong theme for both series. In The Aquatope on White Sand, Kukuru goes through turmoil as her cherished aquarium nears closing forever despite her determination to save it and discovers new ways to support marine life along the way. Fuuka is experiencing the end of her dream of being an idol and discovers what she wants for her life. Honey & Clover is a more complex story with five main characters that undergo their own journeys of love and self-discovery as they go through university and the beginning of their work life. Both are great examples of young adult animation.

Pursuing a life in the visual arts is difficult, but all the characters in Honey & Clover and Smile Down the Runway are determined to make a path for themselves. Smile Down the Runway has a simpler story centered on a fashion competition where the main characters learn from and are inspired by their rivals to improve themselves. Honey & Clover is a coming-of-age story with an ensemble cast that have their own engaging plotlines. Their approach to a slice of life anime may be different, but you will find yourself invested in the lives of these characters.

While Koe no Katachi occurs during middle school and high school, and Hachimitsu to Clover occurs during college and early adulthood, their stories feature a cast of complex characters who struggle to discover and accept themselves through important moments of their lives. Both anime portray emotional subjects with integrity and sincerity that makes the characters deeply relatable.

Surprisingly mature takes on the concept of growing up and finding your place in the world. Both feature thoughtful, introspective dialogue and use the soundtrack not as an accessory, but as the main weapon in conveying the mood and emotional value of each scene. Keep in mind that you do not need to watch the first White Album before jumping into White Album 2. They are separate stories.

both extremely emotional dramas which reflect the harshness of love and life. both show many different storylines which show the soul searching of different individuals. ef a tale of memories is more based on young school goers and is also more artistic, whilst honey and clover is more based on older adult problems and has a different way of protraying the events; however both and brilliant watches and both have the same extremely bitter sweet taste.

Story of the adolescents. All adults are used to be teenagers. And all teenagers will manage to become grown-up. Both shows feature how teenagers deal with relationships and become more adult in the process. Aoi Hana offers shoujo-ai elements as a sidekick while honey&clover has comedy elements that you can considered them as comic relieves. The tension of both drama show are not always high, cuteness and jokes relieve it. Both are recommended for comfortable, slice of life fans.

The way I see it, this is one of the series from the list that resembles H&C the most. Both aired on noitaminA, though one came ~6 years before the other. To begin with, both share a delicate watercolor-like art that is very meaningful, considering how they also deal with delicate themes - those of love, meaningful relationships, conflict, identity. Both are amazingly human in that sense. The main theme or fact that the cast of Hourou Musuko is made of middle schoolers may raise some doubts, but don't judge based on those. While the setting of Emma is Victorian, and that of Honey and Clover is Modern, if you want the light and airy atmosphere, then this anime would be worth it. While both encompass the "slice of life" and romantic touch, where Emma has its serious tone, Honey and Clover is mixed with good comedy. Although, unlike the single focused character of Emma, Honey and Clover revolves around the lives of 5 friends in an Art College, but the focus for both are the same: their relationships, their characters, their troubles.
