in gintama's case, sometimes the animated episode is better than the CHAPTER...or sometimes they're both equally good!

i used to rewatch episode 65 (or was it 64?? it;s the beetle hunting one anyway) ALL THE TIME, i even have that single episode in my ipod ahhaha

but yeah, i usually don't watch some chapters animated because i don't feel like watching that arc/chapter all over again. it's like, i know what happens already, and that's usually enough!

and that's why it's ALWAYS A BAD IDEA FOR ME TO READ THE MANGA BEFOREHAND
