Both are about a guy who doesn't really know what he wants to do with the rest of his life, but then meets a girl who is a genius in the arts. Both are within the school setting as well. Though one is throughout college and the other high school. The other main characters seem similar to each other as well.
Both main characters(Takemoto and Sorata) deal with self discovery in the art field and on a personal level, the main females(Hagu and Mashiro) for both series are genius artist that the male leads try to measure up to.
Both series have a warm atmosphere centered around friendship, love, and everyday life. If you like Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo then Honey and Clover is the series for you.

Same plot line, and cast make up:
"normal" guy with "above normal" friends
practical reasoning evades the main female casts
fear and indecisive for the main male character
laid back atmosphere

I recommend it, because both shows are about a group a students living in a house. They work and study hard to accomplish their dreams. They go through many real life situations. Also in both of them, a Blond girl appears and she has a bond with the teacher who takes care of the home. Both are really good and demostrate the value of friendship and trust one to another.
I found these two series similar in a few ways.
Both Honey and Clover and Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo are lighthearted romance series that has a slice of life feeling to them involving the main characters. The main female protagonist in both series are strange but with an unique presence.
On the other hand, the main male protagonist in both series who has no clue what to do yet with his life but discovers more meaning as he meets the main protagonist who both shares a talent in art.
Friend and discovery are themes present in both series as they adapt to the new atmosphere of

Main male character from both series doesn't really know what to do with their life (Yuuta vs Sorata) and the Main Female character from both series doesn't really understand how daily life is but they are both amazing with art related stuff......they are really amazing at it. (Hagumi vs Mashiro)
Ove all both series are very similar and if you enjoy one then you'll probably like the other.
They are very similar, both about dreams of work life seen in the eyes of students and the life matter of choice between risky hobby route and settled ordinary one, with a protagonist can't find the spark inside himself.
Sakurasuo is a little bit more open and lighter while Clover is more realistic and deeper.
Sakurasou and H&C actually shave very similar concepts and ideas, and both showcase them beautifully but in different ways. While Sakurasou is more blunt with it's message, and has much faster pacing than H&C, not to mention being much more idealistic and happy go lucky, Honey and Clover depicts the ideas in a slightly more mature and realistic way, but still manages to pull off comedic parts too. It's also less direct with its message, preferring the audience to experience it and realize it, often without the main character straight out saying things (unlike in Sakurasou where a lot of dramatic speeches). Oh, also H&C

Similar with the protagonist trying to figure out what to do with his life while being surrounded by people with tremendous artistic ability. Both have that hint of romance and will leave you with a smile on your face.
If someone had told me that Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo was Hachimitsu to Clover 3 I would have believed it.
Both shows are made by the same studio and share the same plot with a few little differences in the characters.
Both anime have similar problems such as the path for life choices, growing up, artist issues as intriguing love stories and complex relationships involving around students that live together as roommates.
They also contain both adorable and talented child-like students two (That have shared lead roles) that have only a brief understanding of love and the adult world

H&C's first season is so much like Sakurasou that it's hard to not feel that one is a rip-off off the other. Even the main charas of the two- Hagu & Mashiro, Mayama & Jin and of course Sorata & Takemoto are so alike that it's uncanny. Sure, the romance in Sakurasou isn't like a web of one-sided love that H&C is. And Sakurasou has much more of (slapstick ) comedy, as compared to H&C, which has a lot more serious(read 'sad') moments. But if you like one, and (after a break of at least a few months) watch the other, you'll love them both
