The joy of meeting people and the sadness of parting with them - both Honey and Clover and 5cm/s focus on this aspect of life. As a movie, 5cm/s is more artistic and compressed while HnC accompanies its characters for several years which makes the viewer's experience even more real, beautiful and bittersweet.
honey and clover is faster paced and less reflective, whilst 5 cm per second is much more bittersweet, however both shows the harshness of life, and shows the aspects (good and mainly bad) of love. amazing watches.

Both show how tough love and life can be. And how people slowly drift away from each other. There's unrequited love in them too, which makes them even more dramatic.
Although one is a very short series/movie and the other even goes on to two seasons, both anime have a nostalgic feel to it. Also, the endings are quite sad in some ways, but heartwarming.
