Apart from the downright similarities between the characters of these two series, the world buildup has striking resemblance. Humanity is constantly being under attack by an eldritch abomination, and to defeat them, kids are trained to pilot giant mecha structures. The protagonist has some sort of issue that prevents him from piloting once such robot. There is a female lead who wears bright red clothes, and plays a big part with the mental turmoil of our protagonist. Mental depression plays a big part in the protagonist's case, and while Evangelion has a constantly lingering dark aura to it, Darling in the FranXX is a lot brighter  read more

Made by some of the same people and following the major themes of giant robot fights, puberty, and coming into ones own self with the help of close friends, these two series encompass many of the positive aspects of the mecha genre as they relate to believing in one's comrades and themselves. Neither series busies itself with explaining mechanics beyond "here is the world and people get stronger through the power of friendship and reconciliation" but appreciating them for the uplifting message and character interaction and growth rather than number of plot holes takes the viewer for an amazing ride.

Dystopian mecha series following a squadron of young soldiers fighting on behalf of a government led by suspicious aristocrats. They contain death and violence in a war against inhuman monsters. Both feature a female protagonist who provides insight into the government's politics and is looked at as outsiders in both appearance and personality. The main male protagonists are stoic and respected by all of the group members, especially the women. Either series has some hijinks expected of rom-com's but juxtaposed with the military setting.

Both contain mecha somewhat flying, young lovers, battles, aliens and female main character more upfront, with more knowledge and suffering then the male mc.

Cardboard cutout characters in a baffling clusterf@#* of events (you just can't call it a cohesive story) try to entertain you for at least a season too long. While occasionally visually stunning, both titles try to entangle you with forced drama, random action and CGI eye candy before you start to realize: It's just a waste of time!

Children in a futuristic world try to learn more about the themselves, the world they live in and the past. Lots of mindfucks. Shinsekai yori is intelligent and does everything the best way it could have done, while Darling in the FranXX is dumb and do it the worst way. Yet, their settings are kind of similar.

Sci-fi backdrop becomes the catalyst for an ensemble of teenagers to learn how to understand and come to grips with interpersonal relationships. Melodrama and love polygons ensue in both. Additionally, both shows are productions with the talent of Studio Trigger.

In both shows, the main cast of characters are younger aged individuals who live in an enclosed environment isolated from the dangers and revelations of the outside world. Both parties are shocked when they eventually find out about the truth regarding the world/universe they live in.

Well... What can i say about Sword Art Online and Darling in the Franxx? First of all, Asuna Yuuki and Zero Two, the main female characters of SAO and Darling respectively, are voiced by Haruka Tomatsu. Also both main girls are the biggest reason that both animes are pretty attractive to the casual anime fan, also Asuna and Zero Two hold the quality of the plot. Kirito and Hiro, the main male characters, are the perfect complement to the main girl, but have several defects due to their closed environment. The main difference is that Hiro is more "normal" and Kirito is more OP. From the back side  read more

I found that the main characters of both (Zero Two and Hiro, Yuno and Yuuki) have very similar traits and characteristics that bring together their independent series'. Zero Two and Yuno have very passionate and goal-directed behaviour, whereas Hiro and Yuuki are both leaders in their own right (Yuuki falls into the category a lot later than Hiro though). And yes, each pair have the same hair colour.

Both shows center on the somewhat tragic love story of a voilent, pink haired girl with horns and a kind black haired guy. In both she is the product of experimentation, and this is a serious cause of her voilence. Also, as we go on we find out they are more connected than we realise, and in both shows memory loss is a significant factor in their respective journeys. Very similar shows indeed once you get into it.

Great shows chocked full of in-your-face sexual euphemisms and great action sequences. Both deal with self-expression and the desire to break free of societal bonds regarding sexuality. For your high-octane action needs, you have Kill La Kill. For a more somber, bittersweet series you have Darling in the FranXX.

The similarity lies with the characters. You're going to get a familiar feel regarding many of the characters if you've seen either one. It doesn't hurt that both series share the same character designer and some of the seiyuu have worked on both titles.

Aside from both being in a futuristic 'humanities-gone-to-shit' setting, this is mostly a VIBE reccomendation. Both center around themes of growing up, maturity, picking the 'bad' side and romantic elements that compliment all that. Cyberpunk is better though, I still haven't forgiven the ending of FranXX.

Star Driver is the original anime that covers Action, Romance and Mecha genres in one Anime. Without Star Driver being the first of its kind, Darling in the FranXX would never be written like it is. I cannot stress enough that Star Driver is one of the best animes that will make you feel like shouting out your youth and moving forward with life. While having a smile on your face the whole time. Your galaxy will shine!

- Love troubles - Teenagers - Similar art style around the face - Lots of crying (by the characters mostly, but idk I guess if you cried at one maybe you'll also cry at the other???) Most importantly, the MC has very similar backstories: popular smart kid who fell behind somehow but is back because of the sudden appearance/reappearance of a magic manic pixie girl. MC's more chill in FranXX though. AnoHana is easier to take seriously because there aren't overt in-your-face sexual overtones every shot, but the voice acting is smoother in FranXX.

Since Trigger was started up by ex-Gainax guys this isn't too much of a surprise. Kids with the special ability/training to use giant robots battle to protect humankind from giant monsters. The main girls in both shows have red outfits and pink hair. If you enjoyed Darling in the FRANXX, you'll have a good time with Diebuster. Watch Gunbuster before you watch Diebuster!

Darling in the FranXX is basically the same as Shingeki. In both worlds humanity is struggling for survival inside man made barriers that prevent giant monsters from destroying everything. The peaceful life of the protagonist is drastically changed when the outside world collides with his own, he then joins a military like group that frequently goes outside, makes friends and discovers more about himself and the lies of the government. I could actually tell the whole story and you couldn't tell which one I am talking about. I hope I didn't spoil it much but you can figure all of this on the first episode, so yeah enjoy.

I think one of the primary strengths of these shows' narratives, and the thing that I really enjoyed about them, is their inclusion of an overarching archetypal theme. In Darling in the FranXX its the value of romance/companionship as a powerful and valuable element of human society. In Akame ga Kill! its how the various aspects of the individual, society, and nature work with or against each other. Both of these shows tend to focus less on individual characters and more on higher level themes (conflict, relationships, differing perspectives, etc.). I would like to add that in both series there are robots with boobs, which can be pretty large in Godannar. Which makes Godannar somewhat more fanservicey on the mecha boob design level. While piloting, the female sits in front, and the male behind her. In Darling in the Franxx, the female's position is somewhat more lewd though.

Both have a female and male MC. Both have some extra terrestrial like or antagonist to fight against. They both seem to have similar story telling in which all the details are revealed throughout the series instead of an info dump on the first episode. Really only difference so far is that in Bounen, instead of mechs, its Xam'd.

Both series involve the future, especially an post apocalyptic one (though for 5Ds, it was more of an alternate future). Both MCs really have a strong resolve as a character, but were often held back by their own self-doubts. Earth is under attack by an advanced alien race. The only effective weapon against these aliens are unique mechas piloted by group of genetically modified children. Genetic modification, however, comes with a cost... Majestic Prince explores this topic superficially. It is presented, but without depth and meaning for the children. Darling in the FranXX develops this topic more completely for the viewer. It is a central theme to the series instead of a peripheral one.

If I had a nickel for every time a mecha anime featured transformation mechanics requiring both a male and female pilot positioned in rather suggestive layouts in the cockpit, I'd have at least 2 nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened at least twice. These titles have it. Pilots in both stories also live in radically different societies than the norm, societies ruled by mysterious "Grandpa" / "Grandma" figures. In both instances the mechs are used to fight enemies of unknown origin and subsequently lead the pilots to go down a path of discovery about their unusual worlds.

Reposting per guidelines: If you enjoyed the mood, tone, mild humor, and themes of growing from childhood to adulthood in a variety of ways, Simoun and Darling are the shows for you. Simoun is similar to Darling in many aspects, specifically that it is about couples piloting advanced devices that no one seem to clearly understand. Even the two main characters from each series have a few similarities with one another, all of them evolving through their relationships and exploration of one's self—I'd even argue that certain moments within each series were very similar. While not technically a mecha show, Arpeggio of Blue Steel has a similar sort of premise to Darling in the FranXX. A short and sweet story, Arpeggio is about a futuristic world in which climate change has isolated mankind. A mysterious navy of anthropomorphic avatars keeps mankind blockaded from the seas. Only one of these anthropomorphic ships sides with humanity, giving them a chance to fight back and be free. Obviously there is some parallel here to Zero-Two, who being half Klaxosaur gives humanity a chance in there own similar plight in Darling.

Before Darling in the FranXX, there was Valvrave the Liberator. There are few mecha series released every season and they rarely enter the mainstream consciousness. Darling in the FranXX was one of the rare series that became mainstream within the anime watching community unlike Valvrave the Liberator. It achieved this success partly due to its mecha mechanics that functions through the pseudo-sexual partnership of its pilots. Takt Op. Destiny and Darling in the FranXX exist in worlds where humanity is battling against alien species using FranXX mechas (in Darling) and Musicarts (in Takt Op. Destiny). Both series try to use unique mechanics to set themselves apart from other apocalyptic anime. At their cores, the strength of the heroes (Hiro/Zero Two and Takt/Destiny) comes from their bonds and how that increase their powers. Some viewers might consider these mechanics as absurd and not start the series, but if you enjoyed one series then you might enjoy the other.

Both Anime tell a story of how a mans life is taken for a spin after a certain female too overpowered for their world comes into it, because of this both MC's face a lot of dilemmas but benefit from happenings that occur from their relationship.

Both series use their primary mecha's functions (the tandem piloting style in FranXX and coupling system in Buddy Complex) as metaphors/allegories for relationships and sex, and they deal with how the pilots' interactions and relationships change as they deal with these systems. Both anime are set in an alternative world where aliens are hunting down humans and only children piloting giant mecha are able to fight back. Although is sounds like a kids show, it actually has adult themes and all actions have heavy consequences including death of mayor characters. I don't care about your opinion on Franxx because at this point, It's very hard to not notice similarities. -Both shows has the underlining theme of finding strength with the people around you -Both shows have light sexual harassment. -Both shows use "love" or romantic relationships impossible to occur due to the main characters profession. -Not to mention the staffs of both shows being involved in Neon Genesis Evangelion In my opinion, I think Hismaso is far better than Franxx due to it's writing and more likable characters.

In these series, you will find quite some similar elements: - Plot holes (but I didn't care) - Laws of physics are only observed if it is good for dramatic effect - Teenagers in some kind of military boarding school - Conflict and loss among comrades - Mechs - Fighting against overwhelming odds - Enemies and protagonists getting bigger and bigger - Power of friendship - Emotional finale with the main 2 heroes If you want to see something that is not only aiming for the top, but over the top, watch these titles.

Both shows feature strong, sexy, unique female leads that are memorable and engaging. Basically, if you're a fan of Marin Kitagawa, you would also be a fan of Zero Two.

has same male - female teammate situation just like zero two is half human- half monster, girl characters in balck bullet are half human- half monster fighting giant monster (in darling, they fight with robots, but in black bullet they fight just pairs, no robots) good music

Shows about frustrated teens for frustrated teens. Kuzu no Honkai is for XXX than FranXX though.

They're both Trigger shows that don't have quite the usual Trigger feel, but still very good overall animations. Both also involve giant mechas. Darling in the FranXX is more romance / drama based, focusing on the characterization of the main cast and their journey to better understanding their current world as well as to adulthood. SSSS Gridman, on the other hand, seems to aim for surrealism and mystery (though not in an ideal way). It also does try to characterize the cast, but to a lesser degree.

It has a similar vibe to it. The MC has an accident or some sort of reason not to pilot the mech. It has a similar cast of high school boys and girls and has a "reason" that these teenagers are the only one to fly these mechs. They both have to fight some foreign power from another plant or different species or robots or whatever.

Nice art and animation with lots of ecchi scenes, forceful and strong headed female love interest. Also similar style of onscreen text to accompany narration. FranXX is like Monogatari running on x0.1 speed with none of the quirky artistic charm. Theme and setting aside ofc.

Lots of allusions to a very important in-story picture book that links all the characters together.

Fight against monsters. Have to be compatible with people or weapons to use them and fight. Special female and male MC that are more power Plot twists. just amazing

While significantly different in genre and setting (Darling in the Franxx is Action/Mecha while Mekakucity Actors is surreal Urban Fantasy), the shows provide, at times, remarkably similar experiences. The shows share two of their primary draws -- a compelling atmosphere of mystery and a well-developed, relatable cast. Both casts are quite large and consist primarily of teenagers with complex interpersonal relationships between them. A number of the characters in each cast can be seen as parallel to one another, such as both shows featuring an important girl who is part "monster" and has serious image and trust issues because of it. Both shows are ultimately more character-driven, with the  read more

These two mecha anime are set in a world where the Earth has become a wasteland and humanity is under the attack of monsters. The main character in both these anime have to save the world by using a giant robot and fight those monsters as their only purpose in life.

demonking and zero two gives the same vibe

The theme of male and female mecha pilots learning teamwork is prominent in both, albeit much more well executed in Rumbl Garanndoll than Franxx.

The characters are overall the same and I love the characters. Not generic and very hard to crack down. The dialogue between the characters in both shows are amazing.

Love stories that take place in a mecha setting, involving a dangerous species of human with blue blood. Both draw heavy inspiration from Neon Genesis Evangelion but are not as bleak.

While Darling in the FranXX is primarily a sci-fi anime, Gintama also mandates a large portion of sci-fi too. They are both used to involve action-packed battles; whether it contributes to the action or is the matter at hand. They wonderfully display the contrast between their sci-fi elements & non-fictitious values of their worlds.

Both have sci-fi and mecha's (usually Selesia Rui for Re:Crators) Both have beautiful and yet similar soundtracks (But both done by different people) Both have similar characters Both have incredible fight scenes And they both have interesting plot wise However the difference between the two is Re:Creators involves famous series's fighting against each other for their creators, while Darling in the Franxx on the other hand involves pilots fighting against beasts called Klaxosaurs If you like Re:Creators, i would highly recommend you to watch Darling in the Franxx, i do find them similar but i think Franxx is better imo

Both series are about a group of children who grows up together and who have strong bonds between each other. If you liked the relations and the great friendship that was between the characters then i think that you may take a liking to this series as well.

Both involve mechs, romance, and space travel. Hoshi no Koe is by Makoto Shinkai and follows the story of two lovers separated by space and time. It gives off very similar vibes to the ending of Darling in the Franxx

Same quirky character. Slightly darker twist with deaths of many death flags (some of which might come true). Interesting supporting characters with good motive told afterwards.

-similar character relationships -same genres -both have lots of wasted potential

- Sexual component to piloting the mecha - Male-female pairs must work together in order to do so
report Recommended by maruutsu
These two are similar in one big way: the characters' relationships. Nagi no Asukara has no action, so you should only try it if you enjoy the relationship drama aspect of DitF.

Not similar story wise, but if you're looking for a similar Action/Romance genre. Both these series hit the same feelings.

A boy has a run in with a promiscuous, manic-pixie dream-girl with pink hair in this manic coming-of-age story with sexual undertones as told in bombastic, over-the-top anime action sequences.

I think D.Franxx draw alot of inspiration from classics like Rahxephon, Evangelion and Soukyuu no Fafner. But in terms of plot wise it is almost 80% similar to Fafner. All deal with frustration of teens growing up and piloting mech instructed by adults to protect island, I mean Earth.

In both cases, both Male MC's are lacking and don't have a certain power that enables them to do things. This then leads to the male MC's to team up with another person (a.k.a. Female M.C.). With their team-up, they are able to battle against other creatures.

Young people are teamed up in male-female pairs to battle the forces of evil. Both Darling and Soul Eater explore the dynamics between these types of partnerships.

These series share a romantic subplot that is intriguing and keeps you interested in the characters. Oh and Mechs,
