Both anime series share a common premise: a post-dystopian Japan featuring a covert high-functioning society with the primary goal of cultivating and educating children within an isolated "institution" where they are kept unaware of the outside world. In both narratives, the youngsters are intentionally kept ignorant about romantic relationships, yet they naturally navigate and discover them. If you enjoyed "Darling in the FranXX" due to its exploration of mystery and ethical complexities within the institutional setting, as well as the concept of "special" and powerful children confronting challenges, then "Tengoku Daimakyo" promises to be an engaging watch for you. Apocaplitcal with kids. The Kids are being cared for somewhere that they believe to be their world, They don't know the romantic love by others and discover it by themselves. 
A lot of mystery and strange creatures.

The similarity lies with the characters. You're going to get a familiar feel regarding many of the characters if you've seen either one. It doesn't hurt that both series share the same character designer and some of the seiyuu have worked on both titles.

Aside from both being in a futuristic 'humanities-gone-to-shit' setting, this is mostly a VIBE reccomendation.

Both center around themes of growing up, maturity, picking the 'bad' side and romantic elements that compliment all that.

Cyberpunk is better though, I still haven't forgiven the ending of FranXX.

Star Driver is the original anime that covers Action, Romance and Mecha genres in one Anime. Without Star Driver being the first of its kind, Darling in the FranXX would never be written like it is. I cannot stress enough that Star Driver is one of the best animes that will make you feel like shouting out your youth and moving forward with life. While having a smile on your face the whole time. Your galaxy will shine!

- Teenagers 
- Similar art style around the face
- Lots of crying (by the characters mostly, but idk I guess if you cried at one maybe you'll also cry at the other???)

Most importantly, the MC has very similar backstories: popular smart kid who fell behind somehow but is back because of the sudden appearance/reappearance of a magic manic pixie girl. MC's more chill in FranXX though.

AnoHana is easier to take seriously because there aren't overt in-your-face sexual overtones every shot, but the voice acting is smoother in FranXX.

Since Trigger was started up by ex-Gainax guys this isn't too much of a surprise. Kids with the special ability/training to use giant robots battle to protect humankind from giant monsters. The main girls in both shows have red outfits and pink hair. If you enjoyed Darling in the FRANXX, you'll have a good time with Diebuster. Watch Gunbuster before you watch Diebuster!

Darling in the FranXX is basically the same as Shingeki.
In both worlds humanity is struggling for survival inside man made barriers that prevent giant monsters from destroying everything.
The peaceful life of the protagonist is drastically changed when the outside world collides with his own, he then joins a military like group that frequently goes outside, makes friends and discovers more about himself and the lies of the government.

I could actually tell the whole story and you couldn't tell which one I am talking about.
I hope I didn't spoil it much but you can figure all of this on the first episode, so yeah enjoy.

These shows are both set in a post-apocalyptic world wherein they have to fight against invaders. In Deca-Dence there are Gadolls and in Darling in the FranXX you have the Klaxosaurs.

Extremely similar animes ... Both have the same main factors, which are: Stop the invasion of aliens;  Protagonists "monster";  Difficulties with the robot, etc.
Only after watching both do you realize the extreme resemblance.I think Darling has more inspiration in RahXephon than in Evangelion.

I think one of the primary strengths of these shows' narratives, and the thing that I really enjoyed about them, is their inclusion of an overarching archetypal theme. In Darling in the FranXX its the value of romance/companionship as a powerful and valuable element of human society. In Akame ga Kill! its how the various aspects of the individual, society, and nature work with or against each other. Both of these shows tend to focus less on individual characters and more on higher level themes (conflict, relationships, differing perspectives, etc.). For someone who understands and enjoys these types of stories, if you've watched one and liked it I think you'll enjoy the other. read more

Both shows has a similar concept with "boy-meets-girl" story, where main hero meets a strange girl, who has a  superpowers. And also has a similar concept of the world, where there are monsters threatening to destroy humanity and robots that save people.

In Knights of Sidonia and Darling in the FranXX people protect a moving city from giant monsters (Gauna/Klaxosaurs) using mechs. Both anime are post apocalyptic. In the beginning of both shows there is a ceremony/first mission for the main team goes wrong and a Gauna/Klaxosaur attacks. There is a character in both shows who is pink/has pink hair who is a hybrid of monster and human, some people don't like them just because of this. There is a mysterious council of people who run society. There are some school scenes since a lot of the main chartacters are teenagers. A lot of the girls want to date the somewhat generic black haired main character. There is some fanservice in both shows. The main mech has a red and white color scheme. The scene at the end of Darling in the FranXX episode one where Zero Two and Hiro killed the Klaxosaur with a spear, and it exploding reminded me of how the Gauna are killed in Knights of Sidonia. read more

I would like to add that in both series there are robots with boobs, which can be pretty large in Godannar. Which makes Godannar somewhat more fanservicey on the mecha boob design level.

While piloting, the female sits in front, and the male behind her. In Darling in the Franxx, the female's position is somewhat more lewd though.

Both have a female and male MC. Both have some extra terrestrial like or antagonist to fight against. They both seem to have similar story telling in which all the details are revealed throughout the series instead of an info dump on the first episode. Really only difference so far is that in Bounen, instead of mechs, its Xam'd.

Both series involve the future, especially an post apocalyptic one (though for 5Ds, it was more of an alternate future).
Both MCs really have a strong resolve as a character, but were often held back by their own self-doubts. They also both have a big friend circle, as well as have had involvement with security guards/police in one way or another.
In both worlds, technology-related transportation means everything to the people in their respective series. In 5Ds, Riding Duels mean so much in terms of pride and freedom, while in Darling in the FranXX, having the ability to ride a mecha means everything to the young kids; otherwise, if one doesn't have that ability, they are "worthless".
The Seven Sages of APE are ominous characters with a very antagonistic feel to them, similar to the Dark Signers and Yliaster...the Sages even look strikingly reminiscent to Yliaster.
The Kyoryu / klaxosaurs bear a good number of similarities to the Earthbound Gods and the Crimson Dragon.
The five pairs of main characters pilot the five unique FranXX mechas...this kind of role and setup feels parallel to the main Five Signers and their respective ace dragons (though Lua from 5Ds turned out later as a sixth Signer).
Zero Two and Akiza's respective situations are not really far off; they both have special abilities and powers that made them very dangerous as individuals, especially from the early get-go; however, they are both truly unable to really "fly" on their own...moreover, they both needed the MC to be able to overcome and exit their out-of-control state.
For the most part, both friend groups in their respective series really know how to get along with each other very well, save for a few individuals. read more

Earth is under attack by an advanced alien race. The only effective weapon against these aliens are unique mechas piloted by group of genetically modified children. Genetic modification, however, comes with a cost... Majestic Prince explores this topic superficially. It is presented, but without depth and meaning for the children. Darling in the FranXX develops this topic more completely for the viewer. It is a central theme to the series instead of a peripheral one.

If I had a nickel for every time a mecha anime featured transformation mechanics requiring both a male and female pilot positioned in rather suggestive layouts in the cockpit, I'd have at least 2 nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened at least twice. These titles have it.

Pilots in both stories also live in radically different societies than the norm, societies ruled by mysterious "Grandpa" / "Grandma" figures. In both instances the mechs are used to fight enemies of unknown origin and subsequently lead the pilots to go down a path of discovery about their unusual worlds.

Simoun is similar to Darling in many aspects, specifically that it is about couples piloting advanced devices that no one seem to clearly understand. In both series, the couples must have a harmonic relationship for piloting to be successful, which often results in difficulties as the couples try to grow up in their own individual ways. Both shows start out light and get deep quickly, with death, destruction, and lasting effects. Both shows are in a dystopian “super future” or alternate sci-if reality. read more

Both series treats about a group of youngsters in what seems to be a post-apocaliptic world who have to deal with weird, monstrous aliens in a society ruled by mysterious adults, where they are the only ones who can stop the menace. These teenagers are also paired in groups of two, with the difference being that in Qualidea Code, the couple leads an squad, while in FranXX, the duo pilots mechas.

Do you like embarrassing sexual innuendos?... Excessive self-loathing dialogue?... Content overwrought with symbolism self-defeating to the purpose of "symbolism" in storytelling?... Subtext lost in the undercurrent of shameless pandering?... Post-Eva content who's identity can't escape the shadow of the patriarch it draws inspiration from due to a lack of actual, self-earned creative merit?... Mecha piloted implicitly by the act of a male and female "CUMing together" in a dance of mutual trust?... WELL BOY, YOU ARE IN LUCK!

De:vadasy shares the same lineage as FranXX. The sleazy underbelly of excerpts that came from what many people consider to be a highbrow entry in the mecha genre. If you taper expectations accordingly, both shows can be enjoyable. Whether it's enjoyable for the reasons the creators intended, however, is to be debated.  read more
