If I had a nickel for every time a mecha anime featured transformation mechanics requiring both a male and female pilot positioned in rather suggestive layouts in the cockpit, I'd have at least 2 nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened at least twice. These titles have it.
Pilots in both stories also live in radically different societies than the norm, societies ruled by mysterious "Grandpa" / "Grandma" figures. In both instances the mechs are used to fight enemies of unknown origin and subsequently lead the pilots to go down a path of discovery about their unusual worlds.
