I have a full time job editing videos now! Check out my Letterboxd if you want to see my weekly movie reviews.
Scores generated based on technical judgment first, primarily directing, narrative functionality, character development, tonal consistency, visuals, and sound design. Thematic achievement and emotional resonance tend to come second in my reviews if present at all.
[10] Masterwork: Nothing is perfect, but there are some excellently crafted anime that I find personal significance to the point that I would consider them subjectively perfect.
[9] Exemplary: These are shows that excel in almost every way. I consider each of these anime one of my favorites—I will rewatch time after time. Although they may have a few issues, any flaws get negated by overall greatness.
[8] Great: A well-rounded and strong experience. These shows may have a few minor stumbles along the way, but the positives compensate for many flaws. I recommend them to everyone.
[7] Good:Overall a very positive experience worth watching despite a few noticeable flaws. It may have apparent issues, but they are less distracting thanks to highpoints. I recommended these anime to most people.
[6] Decent: These are above-average shows with good aspects that slightly outweigh the bad. Flawed, but I found it worth watching enough to warrant a tentative recommendation.
[5] Average: These are middle of the road anime: mediocre—they could have been better with more time, management, talent, or budget. Any potential of these anime got wasted—I would not recommend a five without significant caveats.
[4] Subpar: I do not recommend watching these anime; they are below average, not a wholly awful experience, but far from satisfactory. There may have been good ideas or good production values, but the writing lacked substance and the ideas were poorly executed.
[3] Awful: If there were any good ideas along the way, the anime did not successfully execute them. Amateur writing, terrible visuals, or shallow character writing earned this score. There may have been a few worthwhile moments, but serious issues overshadowed them.
[2] Abysmal: Watching these anime was a harrowing experience. However, it may not have been insulting. Maybe braver people could find an average show in it, but I found nothing—no redeeming qualitiesexcept for ironic entertainment.
[1] Pathetic: The shows that are so offensively bad—I want nothing more than to unsee them. Unforgettable, but in the worst way you could imagine. Avoid at all costs.
I loved your review on Horimiya. I just couldn’t understand what the hype was about and why it was scored so highly. Both the story and the characters felt average to me and didn’t do much else different than a bunch of other rom coms. I gave it a 5 and still stand by that, just average in general.
Hello! I watched 7 seeds (episode 1) and was not keen on continuing it... so I checked the reviews and saw your hilariously written summary! It was so helpful in deciding to drop it, because a lot of your thoughts mirrored mine! I could not stop laughing throughout it:
- Totally agree. I thought it was a "so-bad-its-good comedy," until I realized they were taking themselves seriously.
- "All Natsu does is silently lust over a generic handsome bishounen."
I predicted that too, so I'm relieved you confirmed it! I was like, "well that's convenient, a handsome, nice guy saves her repeatedly *and* he happens to be a sophomore while she's a freshman, wow. And the compliments." It felt a little too textbook for me, even though I can be a fan of romance.
- Did not know about the massive character introductions and development (or lack thereof). Makes sense with the way the first episode was already going.
- "Once he shaved his beard, lost his wolves, he became a generic bishounen to fall in love with Hana."
Ohmygod, I laughed so hard at this one, and this part, "a random girl thinks she will be eaten by big bugs, she suddenly says “I wanted to be a doctor and an astronaut.” Wow so relatable. I am definitely going to cry when she dies violently."
I really liked your attention to detail on the art, animation and sound as well. I wouldn't know better, but I'll take your word for it. Thanks again for saving some time of my life instead of watching 7 seeds, haha. I'll be sending you a friend request so I can check your ratings on other titles I plan to watch.
I love your MT reviews. The fans of that series love to downplay or outright deny the glaringly evident perversion that permeates throughout every aspect of its composition. I'm glad you've noticed that Rudeus is not the only problem. The way it portrays women and sex is sickening and incredibly pornified for the men who watch it.
Girls Band Cry contains complicated characters that have true depth (literally and physically). They have setbacks, and I think the best part is how they don't always fix their problems; they try, but sometimes they fail to work things through, or they realize their problems are more than initially met the eye. It just feels like so real. I honestly think it could be a 10/10 for you, and if not, you can break my kneecaps.
I just logged on my 5 year old MAL account and I've been going through my old DMs, I found that I sent you some messages a few years ago and I'm really bored this summer (since all I really do is go to the gym and rot for the rest of the day) so I'd love to get to know you if its okay with you could you slide me somewhere I could contact you like discord?

Is this your long-awaited return dear rival?
And yes, reviews are now set up a lot differently so there's no thrill seeing who gets the hotspot.
