Both focus on music, and prodigal music performers. They also share some genres in common, like some romance, some comedy, some drama, some concurs (music contests) and great classical music. 

I am gonna make this short and simple. To me Nodame gets the edge because I enjoy comedy more. But main difference is Nodame has a more lighthearted fun feeling while Shigatsu pulls at the heart.  

Both are touching stories about a love of music, and how life advances. Both focused heavily on the piano and entering the music world, where you might have been left wanting more, Nodame goes that much further. Overcoming obstacles, living life, and finding love - truly both are great animes. Nodame, however - will leave you with less tears. 

- Both are about classical music. - Both involve MCs with polar-opposite personalities. - The male characters are precise musicians while the female characters have a aggressive yet uniquely beautiful playing style. - The girl changes the guy's life. - Both have some nice and entertaining drama. - Both are slow yet great slice of life romance anime. If you loved Nodame Cantabile and felt sad when it ended, then Shigatsu is here to soothe your pain. Absolutely recommended! 

The protagonist has a fellow musician classmate that admires one another. One is a gifted pianist the other violinist. They both explore what it means to create great music together and their bond only strengthens as a result. Both anime have their moments of light humor despite being touching anime. 

Despite the age differences, Nodame Cantabile and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso shares many similarities. The main male protagonist from both series have a talent in music playing (the piano). Their talents are noticed especially by others including the main female protagonist. Throughout the course of both series, we see character interactions between the two main protagonists who expresses their interests and emotions. There's a decent degree of realism present by the way their characters are fleshed out including their past. Both series has a great deal with focus on music as a prominent theme. The music and art when the music is playing. Both shows have art that show the setting that the musicians/conductor create through their performance. I would say Shigatsu~ is a bit more psychological/drama and a bit less rom-com, although it certainly has rom-com in it. If you were to combine Clannad and Nodame Cantabile, I think you'd have a pretty close approximation to Shigatsu~.

Nodame Cantabile shows the male protagonist dealing with a very quirky woman, who plays the piano beautifully, living next to his apartment. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso shows the male protagonist dealing with his trauma, and fear of playing piano, due to a breakdown he had during a concert. Shigatsu and Nodame are very much alike, here are my reasoning. Both anime have a male protagonist who excels at playing the piano. In the case of Nodame the protagonist can also play the violin at a high level. Nodame is more centered around comedy than shigatsu. Which gives it in my opinion a more light hearted feel. Shigatsu focuses more on the psychological and dark side of being a prodigy where the romantic relationship is introduced and becomes important later on. Nodame on the other hand introduces the romantic side much earlier on and focuses more on the romantic comedy style. Both anime are very much based around the theme of classical music with a focus on piano and piano & violin duo. In both anime the female part takes a big place in the development of both the protagonist and the story. Romance is a theme which both anime are centered around. They both handle this romance theme very well and it is very well intertwined in the story. There is a nice balance of romance / music in both anime. In my opinion, Nodame can be watched casually without focusing too much, while Shigatsu requires more attention from the viewer to completely understand the feeling of the characters and follow the story. I think these two anime will appeal to both romance and music lovers. Either one is worth watching. read more

Everyone has to fight their own fights. Everyone struggles for one or other reason. These shows are about struggling musicians with different life circumstances. They play for different reasons and yet they all share an imense passion for music. They have a need to express themselves through music. Shigatsu wa is about letting go of your past and finding joy in your present through music and the people you love.  

Nodame Cantabile and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April) are music oriented. What's more remarkable is that the anime focuses more in classical music. Both MC also know how to play the piano and violin. Both revolve through music but they are both different in many aspects. If you want to go with an anime that is more humorous and light, go with Nodame. But if you want an anime that can make you cry, or somewhat dramatic, then pick Shigatsu. Nevertheless, Noda and Shigatsu are a masterpiece. Try watching both. You'll not be disappointed.

If you liked shigatsu wa kimi no uso you should watch Nodame cantabile. Nodame cantabile is not so dramatic but it has the same sense , classical music and great characters .

And for this two girls, their main desire is to play side by side with the man they admire. While Nodame Cantabile is mainly a comedy that will have you laughing all the way through, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is a strong drama that will make you, perhaps, cry a little. Still, both anime are a must watch, specially for those who like music.

If you are looking for another anime about music, I recommend Nodame Cantabile. While not as serious all the time, like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, it still has that slice-of-life and a little bit of drama. It does add more comedy, which I think is great and really adds to the story, plus it's a good contrast with the more serious main character. The soundtrack and classical music selections are great and are played very well. If you liked Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, I definitely think you'll like Nodame Cantabile. 

If you like music anime and you like romance's then look no further then Nodame cantabile. If you are aiming for the very specific genre of accompanist music romance anime, then this is for you.

Well, classic music is certainly the main thing that they have in common. The plot is very different as well as the characters, Shigatsu is more dramatic whereas Nodame is kinda a comedy. But since music is the main theme for both, I think you could appreciate them in the same way. The pieces that are played are really beautiful, the animation is superior for Shigatsu, but it is pleasant also for Nodame. Musical competions are present in both of them with all the struggle that may come along. 

If you like Your Lie in April because of its beautiful sound & music then this is the perfect recommendation for you. Nodame Cantabile is a series that also portrays love in classical music. The MC also plays the piano and has a calm personality. Meanwhile, the FMC is a cheerful person who is carefree in life. Something will change in their lives when they encounter each other. Both the FMCs taught the MC to pursue freedom in music. And on the journey, you will encounter realistic drama and romance that will satisfy you. You'll definitely enjoy the ride so give this a try.

Both of this shows revolve around classical music though Primo Passo's a show that was kinda serious and Nodame Cantabile's something comedy-like, I think they're still similar, yet these shows are worth watching and must watch if you really like music, I'm sure you won't regret watching both of this.

Nodame Cantabile is a great anime, especially if your fond of music. many people actually judge this anime directly because of its art, but it really has a great story. On the other hand Honey and Clover is the kind of anime wherein you could really appreciate the story as a whole especially the season II, despite the similarities of the art it really has a great story. I really recommend you watching it because I know you will really appreciate it. ^_^

Two slice of life/comedy shows that focu on college students, rather than highschool. They have a similar feel since one takes place in an art college and another in a music school. 

The animation and the whole general mood of trying to succeed in an artistic field are both extremely similar to each other.

The main character is female and not as refined as the male lead and initially not as serious as he is. She eventually makes the male lead have feelings for her and end up together.  

The character are very similar, somewhat identical. Male lead being the cool and perfect type, while the female lead is high spirited... 

Both lead charcters are the same. Female characters are free spirited beings who are not ashamed to show their affection for the male leads. Both Male leads are those cool types who likes to hide their true feelings. 

Again, a girl chasing a guy who, despite his full knowledge, constantly brushes her off and finds her very annoying. I also found this very, very amusing! Check it out!

The Male Lead Is Best At Something.. Like Irie Is The Best In Studies And Chiaki Is The Best In Piano. Both I Guess Are Perfectionist. For The Female Lead, Both Are Very High Spirited. Both Also Chases The Guy They Like Even Though Rejected? And Both Starts Out With The Guys Being Mean Towards The Girls And Then Eventually Forms Romantic Feelings Towards The Girls Overtime.

For all the reasons stated above. They are indeed very similar. Nodame is actually slightly more enjoyable for me (only because I have a background in music) if I'm being honest and I LOVE Itazura. I'm a sucker for a cold-hearted albeit gorgeous/smart/talented guy getting his emotional walls broken down by a plucky girl "trying her best" without him even realizing it and then they both get a happy ending - my favorite kind of story <3 

itazura na kiss and nodame cantabile are two of my favorite animes! they're both rom/coms and have a similar humour. the relationship between the leading male and female in both animes are similar as well. 

They both have male protagonists that are praised as geniuses, and tenacious and hard working. They're both romance stories that covers a period of time, and with the female protagonist chasing after the male protagonist. 

These two are very very similar in many many aspects 1. Both about a life-long romance relationship. Typically in anime it's just highschool romance, but in these two, both proceeds to university and career (Itatsura even proceed to having baby lmao)! In Itatsura, main characters later became doctor and nurse, and in Nodame Cantabile --pianist and conductor. If you are craving to watch in a sweet relationship that won't make you go 'Ughhhh WHY DID IT END SO SOON I WANT MORE!' then only these two will satisfy you! 2. Female and male protagonist both have similar characteristic. Male character being quite 抖S(which in English means being high-up and a bit arrogant at time) but have soft-spot for our female character). While the female character being positive, like a little sun and melt the 'iceberg' 3. Decent plot that really drags you in into the character's life. Itatsura no kiss is probably the most famous shojou manga out there with coutless movie/ TV show, that's because the characters' personalities are very iconic and we all love the way the plot was laid out. While in Nodame Cantabile, the plot also proceed in a very comfortable pace and do not have anything awkward. 4. THE FEELING OF LIVING THEIR LIFE. Idk if you have this feeling when you finish watching an anime...after witnessing the character finishing off their life journey, it feels like you just finished living through a life-time and you just want to linger there for longer! That's the feeling I got when I finished these two...and only in these two among all 200 something anime that I have watched. Sometimes I often ask myself, so which one is better? The answer I will give is Nodame Cantabile for solely two reason. Nodame Cantabile has a much nicer art style and the plot is a bit more mature than Itatsura. Although I believe if you enjoy either one of them, you will enjoy the other one! read more

Both animes end up having the female in the house of the male somehow, and the male is smart while the girl is dumb. The male is annoyed at the female in the beginning in both animes, but then starts developing feelings for her. The female also falls in love first in both animes. The only way I see they are different from each other is that nodame cantabile has romance as a secondary plot, while itakiss has it as the main plot. However there are some differences between each other: Sakamichi no Apollon takes place in a secundary school on the sixties years; the kind of music played by main characters is the Jazz. If you like a good music, like Jazz and Classical, you should watch these animes!!! If you like a good story, with romance, some comedy, drama of daily life; you may like too!!

It might seem at first sight that the josei genre be the most striking similarity and although the musical themes are different: In "Nodame Cantabile" music is speaking in tones of among others Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Peter Schubert, Claude Debussy und Sergei Wassiljewitsch Rachmaninow (transcription: Rachmaninoff). So an musical framework of classical gems is presented. In contrast does "Sakamichi no Apollon" presents the musical spirit of Jazz in the 60ties with the sound of George Gershwin, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Duke Ellington. Nevertheless or better that is precisely why the main visible, extremely fastidious driving force in both anime, is an highly elaborated combination of story and qualities of dedication and innovation which symbolizes the love for music that always do inspire musicians. (personal note: in the case of "Sakamichi no Apollo" do skip the episode 12, because with the spirit of Jazz the end doesn't harmonize at all). Both anime do have flaws but if you are fond of music, these two anime are excellent and none mainstream. Both have pretty good humor, music, and great character chemistry. Nodame cantabile is more stretched out than Kids on the slope but the latter has better animation and nice character designs and world-building than the former.

Similar setup as both Josei are slice of life that shows young adults instead of high schoolers, both deals with music, especially for Nodame Cantabile. Nana Komatsu is somewhat similar to Nodame as they are great leads that are optimistic and exceed to share their (usually joyful moods) to the spectator. Both are pretty good comedy at the beginning Nana however has a drastic shift in the middle that turn it into a drama. 

Both are romances with realistic slife of life depiction of the life of young professional musicians building a career. The degree of realism is higher in Nana, and the 2nd half has a tonal shift towards more tragedy drama, while Nodame remains relaxed and easy despite dramatic moments. Both have an ensemble cast of different musician characters with own individuality. Nana is a little rogher, not the least because it features rock musicians, while Nodame takes place on the campus of a classical music college. 

the music in both of them are god-made, if one of them doesn't make you cry like B-word that you are, the other one sure will. bro, do yourselves a favor & go bless urself with these! hope ya have 𝓕𝓤𝓝 anyways! 

Both shows are centered around music, drama, and romance. The music in both these shows is excellent. The stories are both engaging and depict fairly realistic situations. There are some comedy and light-hearted situations throughout the story to help balance out the drama. If you enjoyed the drama, music, and romance in Nana, I would highly recommend these shows to you.  

Nodame Cantabile is more of comedy based - so if you feel that the music presentations in it weren't enough, then watch this anime called Beck - a band that will rock your world with awesome music displays.

Music is a strong influence in both Nodame Cantabile and Beck. In these two series, it plays a prominent role in shaping the main characters' lives and their futures. They share their understanding of music and their passion for it with other characters while at the same time learning about it themselves. Both series has a similar feeling that reflects the mood of the series as being more slice of life revolving around the main characters. But more than that, their appreciation of music leads the characters to meet new people and learn more about the world and even more about themselves. Music series that go into greater detail about playing instruments with characters that are mostly mature and handle themselves well.  

Both are romance/comedy type animes with a funny female main lead. Nodame Cantabile is a more mature comedy-love-story with lots of classical music, unique art style and a cool male lead. It's pretty funny, not overly dramatic and very heart-warming. I think this anime is a good find and you should give it a try, because it's not your typical generic romance-comedy anime. Nodame Cantabile is something special. 

shoujo/comedy shows that features female protagonists trying their hardest to be with the one they love whom are clueless to this very fact. Also check out both series' great live action counterparts! 

Lovely Complex and Nodame are similar because of the relationships between the characters. Girl likes boy. Boy does not like girl. Girl tries to make boy love her. Lovely complex is more based of its romance and comedy. While Nodame is based off music. Both are romantic comedies and they are both awesome and worth watching. 

The relationship between Chiaki and Noda(me) reminds me VERY much of that between Otari and Risa. The comedy's great! The art style is also somewhat similar. These two animes are just generally similar, without being alike. Did that make sense? 

Comedy, Complex and Romance in a funny way =) 

It's really similar in genre. But there are somethings that Lovely Complex does better and somethings that Nodame Cantabile does better. Regardless they both also have some similar flaws. Like some really bad two dimensional characters or some gags being too forced. --- One big flaw of Nodame Cantabile is oddly the main female lead. The author uses her for comedy gags all the time, so you just don't really end up taking her character as a mature main lead specially when the main male lead is way more mature. It would have been great to add some depth to her character instead of being used as a comedy gag ragdoll all the time. Frankly, i could only take the female lead a bit seriously only if i just imagined that she is a bit on the autism spectrum. Ah and i have nothing against autistic people, in fact i consider them to be gifted. It's the eccentric behaviour. One really strong aspect of Nodame Cantabile is the concerts, if you have some attention span in your brain then you will get completely sucked into it, you'll get goosebumps. Even if you don't appreciate classical music. The anime does an exemptional job to make you feel like you're part of the audience too. --- On the other hand lovely complex does a fantastic job with the female lead character but the dense trope in the male lead feels forced at times. Otherwise some of the other side characters also have bad two dimensional tropes, to the point of being a bit annoying for viewers. The musical score in the anime is highly underrated, the orchestra hits you hard at the right timing in certain moments. --- Well both are a fun ride to watch if you have a soft spot for shoujo/romance genre. These are NOT seinen titles, so don't expect any serious psycchological/adult themes dumbass. It's all family friendly. read more 

The diferences maybe is the shojo romance, but if you like another anime that shows music and arts. This anime is for all family :D

Two fun-loving female leads insert themselves into a slice-of-life comedy that revolves around music. While Nodame Cantabile leans towards slapstick and romance, and K-on is more "cute girls doing cute things", they both feature a very similar sense of humor and an overall lighthearted, relaxing mood. 

They are similar because both main characters learn music by hearing it, and they have the same voice. They are both about music and there's this funny/comedy thing about the main characters that makes you say " so cute." 

These are both about young musicians and how they encourage each other grow and develop their musical talents. They feature a similar pair of lead characters: one is a rigorously trained perfectionist and the other is a free-spirited natural talent. Also, classical music plays a large role in Nodame and Piano no Mori. 

Both are about playing the piano and classical music. The two lead characters share similar key features like how Chiaki and Amamiya are both neat and play music true to the score and perfectly, while Nodame and Kai enjoy the feeling of playing and not so much to do it in the right way. The passion for music is an essence in both and it all boils down to the joy of music.  

These two anime belong together. Nodame is Kai, whilst Chiaki is Amamiya. Piano no Mori is the kid-version of Nodame Cantabile and is simpler however, both anime feature characters who are finding their dreams and want to reach them. As another MAL user said, "one is a rigorously trained perfectionist and the other is a free-spirited, natural talent". Nodame and Kai both play by ear too. Pianos. Yaaaay. :)

Both anime are a good anime about music. Nodame Cantabile is about orchestra and hibike euphonium is about brass band. Both anime tell you about wonderfulness of friendship, and how hard effort won't lie to you. the difference is nodame cantabile focus on main character romance story whereas hibike euphonium focus on friendship and trust. 

Both have a realistic protrayal of orchestral music, young professional musicians and their career planning, and most importantly about musicians in search of their own style. Both have a large ensemble of different musician personalities and romance (only hinted on in Euphonium, though). Nodame is more comedic, and features college students. Euphonium has more focus on drama and it's protagonists are high-schoolers. Both feature long concert sequences of classical music. 

Who'd thought that Chiaki's little brother would end up as a bookworm and Nodame's sister as an astronomist... The main pair and their relationship in both series were much alike. Also the storytelling had many similarities.  

I think the CRAZY way Nodame-chan is in love with Chiaki-sempai is similar to the (also crazy) feelings Mihoshi has for Ooyagi-kun. It's the same crazy kind of love imho and also Chiaki and Ooyagi looks quite similar (smarty and cautiously). Both anime are hilarious. 

Both series are about girls who enjoy more niche hobbies, and both have the same silly, energetic feeling to their stories. They're both serious about their hobbies, though it's portrayed in a fun, goofy way. Lovable main characters for the most part, though Chihayafuru doesn't quite have the romance that Nodame Cantabile does. 

Both are about young people working hard and striving for their dreams. Both protagonists are airheads yet extremely talented (in piano and karuta). Anyone with a strong aspiration of their own will be able to relate to this anime. 

Similar tones, similar quirky main characters, both great romance series although REC is a lot shorter. Both are must sees IMO. 

Work and music are intertwined in both of these series. In each, the main characters face the challenge of balancing the pressure of their social lives and meeting the expectations of their fellow colleagues. Nodame Cantabile is much longer and contains a considerable amount of comedy,both are enjoyable and entertaining.  

comedy is main focus. similar humour, both extremely funny. both uses music effectively to emphasis particular feelings, as well as to increase the mood ~ in a masterpiece kind of way. both have unique characters, which have excellent developments, having elements of drama when necessary. brilliant interactions between the characters as well, with hints of romance. both are school slice of lifes. BOTH ARE MASTERPIECES!!!! 

Both are romantic comedies about unique, strong girls that make their own path in life, but while Haruhi is intelligent, Nodame is rather a music prodigy 

Both anime are about achieving dreams and have a lot of character development. 

A 3-season long anime about 2 people making it big in their own industry. Bakuman. is about manga whereas Nodame Cantabile is about classical music. Both have romance splashed in but its never the main focus of the story. Both have great comedy and side characters that the main duo compete and perform with. 

The stories of the two lead characters (Nodame and Maya) have a great deal in common. Though Glass Mask is not comedic, like Nodame Cantabile, they both feature female protagonists who exist somewhat outside of their artistic communities. Both are phenomenal raw talents who struggle to find their niche amongst those who may be more technically skilled in their respective fields, but who often lack their same level of emotional committment. The romance stories in the two series are handled differently, but similarly at the same time. Instead of pairing these characters up with their respective partners immediately, and then facing numerous obstacles all together, these romances develop slowly and subtly. Even the smallest of moments between the various couples can make your chest clench. Anyone who has enjoyed one of these series will definitely enjoy the other as well. read more 

A girl. A young girl with a talent tries to fulfill a dream in both series. They practice and work to perfect their skills. At the same time, they go through emotional moments but also finds peace and enjoy on many occasions. They also meet an individual who is there for her when time calls. There are those moments present in both series that captures the moments of the realism involving the field of becoming a star. Whether they shine or not, the main protagonist from both series strive to improve their skills. There is passion in their works that is expressed through their actions and from the fruits of their efforts. Although some people may not like either of these series if you happen to like Toradora! then you should definitely check out Nodame Cantabile. Both of these series are funny, will probably have you laughing at least once every episode.  

While being drastically different anime, some of the character traits are similar in both anime. Both anime include a protagonist who meet a troublesome girl who is incapable of taking care of herself. In both anime the girl takes advantage of the guy by coming over the the protagonist's house to eat their food. The girl can't take care of herself and allows her apartment to fill with trash, until the protagonist becomes friends with them and helps them live on their own. The protagonist helps the girl over come her problems and reach the goal they were aiming for. That is where the similarities end.  

Nodame Cantabile and Skip Beat! are very similar in a lot of different aspects. they both have a main character who is an awkward wall flower. they both strive to become a professional actor or musician and their passion in their work breaks through as inspirational! they both have a love interest- although Skip Beat!'s interest is not as obvious as Nodame Cantabile,and is also less shown. but it is stated that its there. either one are both something to look into. :D 

I've always found these two parallel in their ways of showing deep psychological aspects of various professions: one is about musicians, the other is about acting technique. 

Both of the mc are very gifted at piano, and eccentric in some sort of way..(well the mc from nodame is on a different level...) They both got a mentor who they fell deeply about, however nodame has romantic feelings for her mentor and piano no mori feels deep respect and admiration for his. If you like piano no mori I'm sure you'll like this one too :D 

Most of all, both are delightful Rom-Com; Relationship between MCs is straight forward, encouraging and light hearted.  

I can stop thinking about Nodame when I watch Arakawa, the graphic style is so similar, it is also the same kind of humor, with very strange character except the hero, who is quite "normal". Plus, Kou reminds me a lot of Chiaki in Nodame : they are both issued from rich families and will meet a strange girl who will "teach" them how to really "live"... 

Lighthearted, introspective dramedies that follow an artist's journey to improve by learning from those around them.  

Whisper of the Heart is about finding what you want to achieve in life, like in Nodame Cantabile, Noda Megumi was searching what she want or dream as the story goes on.  

nodame is longer, has better characters and plot but both use music as plot devices 

If you're looking for NOT passionate (steamy) romance, it may be perfect for you. 

the man is similar, they are both cold but also care. The female also has eccentric character/ the comedy and romance is great(although there is not much romance)
