Both animes display some similarities: - Male protagonist is a quiet calm composed person who excels at piano. In NC we have an adult while in Shigatsu we have a teenager. They have similar personalities and yet even though NC is targeted to an older audience it is Shigatsu which displays the protagonist with a much more dramatic past and more dramatic plot. - Female protagonist is rather unique and loves to play joyfully her piano/violin. Personally I find NC's heroine a refreshing heroine because she is very centered in comedy and it is very crazy while Shigatsu's heroine delivers more tragic moments. - Heroine ends up  read more

Both series focus on the «discovery» of the true concept of music by music students. While the theme might be the same, these two shows have completely different moods. In Nodame you'll spend half the time laughing, while in Corda d'Oro it's mostly a serious mood sometimes bordering on depressive. Not to say that Corda is a bad anime... I liked it very much. It's just that it has a completely different take on music. Other major difference: in Nodame there are many interesting and different characters and many plot twists... while in Corda there are less characters, who aren't very different, and the story  read more

Both are really well done slice of life series that focus on students attending college focusing on artistic subjects (fine arts for Honey and Clover and classical music for Nodame Cantabile). The artistic style in both series is similar as well with well rounded humor to balance things out. I also can't help but see similarities between Morita and Nodame. I keep thinking that Nodame is the female version of Morita. :D

it is similar by the relationship between the two lead characters --both the girls are totally inlove with a guy who's really rich and popular --both the girls seems idiot but really has something inside her~ --[the guys are both cold hearted!]-- --the flow of the stories pretty much up.

Both definitely have a similar feeling, "Nodame Cantabile" is about classical music, where "Kids on the Slope" is about jazz, but they both have the same goal that you should enjoy the music your playing and give it feeling and not just playing it like it's written on the music sheet.

Nana and Nodame Cantabile are similar in that they each weigh heavily on music. Nodame Cantabile has much more comedy, whereas Nana contains more drama, but I'd group them close together in terms of character development and drama enthrallment.
report Recommended by Xinil
Both shows are centered around music. Drama isn't exactly similar in the two of them, but you'll probably end up enjoying the relationships developed between the characters. Koyuki could maybe be representative of Chiaki, as they're both struggling for a career in music.

Both Risa and Nodame are silly and fun. The romance, drama, and comedy are very similar although NC is a bit more subtle and mature while LC is more exaggerated and ridiculous at times. For the most part, the characters in NC and LC are all searching for their own goals and trying their best to reach success and find happiness. Both anime are very deep in their own ways, realistic, and motivational! The most important thing is I finished them each in exactly 1.5 days. Go enjoy!

Both series center around music even though the styles are very different the sense of humor from both series is light and interesting and they both have art styles that set them apart from other animes.

It's all about the music.. Both animes are very good and about classic music...
report Recommended by lolester
Both of these shows are about cultivating the art of music in an Orchestral setting, where many characters face trials and tribulation to reach for the goal of being no. 1. Nodame is set during their college years and focuses on gaining international recognition whereas in Hibike, it's more focused on the high school setting and reaching for the Nationals. If you love your music, check these out!

the relationship between the main characters in both anime are similar.. Mihoshi is like nodame is a push over.. while Saku and chiaki are having trouble dealing with her but in the same time they don't mind having the girl beside them.

While Nodame Cantabile is about classical music and Chihayafuru is about karuta, both of them revolve around people following a passion most people would find odd nowadays. They are a bit slow paced, but feature very solid character development. Chihayafuru doesn't have the same amount of romance as Nodame Cantabile does, but it's there. And the female leads are just as clueless.

extremely similar atmosphere. developing characters and relationships. brilliant

Both have to do with school and comedy with a little drama as well, a interesting melody (music) that plays in both series.

Both are about young people striving for their dreams with love as a factor of motivation. Anyone with a strong aspiration of their own will be able to relate to this anime.

Both are about talented young artists fighting to get somewhere in life, but the two have very different approaches to it
report Recommended by as3
Both anime begins with that the main male character (Chiaki, Ryuji) cleans the house of the main female character (Nodame, Taiga). Both are funny and about love (among other things).
report Recommended by Mithrillion
Both have a strong female lead moving towards stardom or surrounded by it, cool guys, romance and comedy- though the stories approach the idea in very different ways

- Both are about classical music. - Characters grow up and mature in both shows. - Centered around piano as the main instrument, although Nodame Cantabile has a more wide array of charaters who play different instruments.

Romance, check. Whacky comedy, check. Whacky leads, check.

Both series are comedic slice-of-life romances with perfectionist male leads and relatively strange female leads. The male leads are frequently frustrated with the antics of the female leads, but in the end both couples really do seem to care for each other.
report Recommended by Triplicity
Both are slice of life comedies which include a serious artist who take themselves too seriously having their life turned upside down by eccentric characters. The artist then becomes better at what they do as they learn about life and what is really important in life. Both have a focus on friendship.

The characters in both this movie and this anime series are very similar in both looks and how they both strive for their dreams through the arts. Through out watching this movie I couldn't help but think of Nodame Cantabile. Hope this helps!

Both are related to music, or rather, about music
report Recommended by gmgkng
Both are romance anime whose main characters are girls that are not typical "girl" types. For example, Nodame is messy and cannot cook for herself. Both couples are extremely cute, but Kimi ni Todoke's romance is more gentle than Nodame Cantabile. Also, if you enjoy music then Nodame Cantabile is a plus!

The relatioship between the protagonists are alike, and also is the humor. there are some parts that Kasahara really reminds me to Nodame. It's a really funny anime.

the question "how to express one's feelings which you couldn't express with words" not the main theme in nodame cantabile, but have an important part in anime, and that is similar to blue period, where the character considered about it a lot. both are comedy and fun stories about the passionate learning, using new skills, developing your sense of art. both have reflections about the place of art in one's life, how it affect on relations with other and the way of looking at things.

I believe that both of these anime are similar in that both of them deal with schools that focus in something, Agricultural school in Gin no Saji and a Music college in Nodame Cantable. In those schools we are able to learn not only more about what they working with but we also learn more about the characters and people with in them as they go about life.

Both stories are focusing on personal growth of the characters and feature famous pieces of classical music, as well as conveying the enjoyment of playing classical instruments. In Nodame Cantabile it is piano at its center while Ao no Orchestra gives us the sound of violin. Ao no Orchestra portrays high school students working together to perform in an orchestra at the same times as being rivals. Nodame Cantabile instead has a slow developing love relationship between the university students at its center. Ah and they both as well as side characters also seem to work towards their personal goals and learn how to  read more

Nodame Cantabile looks like a high-class drama. Glancing at the poster, one would not expect the violinist to hit the pianist with a frying pan... but that is exactly what he does. Multiple times. In both shows, the male lead is a violent tsundere who routinely hurls comedic physical and verbal abuse at a hopelessly lovestruck "idiot" girl, but the girl refuses to be dissuaded and leave him in peace. Her tenacity and charm quickly win viewers' hearts, though his is harder for her to reach. Unlike the acclaimed character-driven narrative of Nodame Cantabile, Aho Girl is a simple 4-koma gag show in which the situation  read more

I wonder how this was not mentioned earlier ... If you want to watch an anime close to NC than i think SSP would do the job - the genres are preatty much far apart one eachother since NC its more science of life/comedy and SSP its Fantasy but none the less the music in both of them its tottaly awesome.

If you enjoy young musicians pursuing their perfect sound, these anime are for you. Nodame Cantabile has a gentle love story as well, whereas Mashiro no Oto is more a coming of age story.
report Recommended by tzippurah
I think these shows are similar because they are both about passion and pursuing dreams. They both follow a realistic slice of life style with relationships and friendships evolving over time. Although the topics are very different, they are similar in the way they instantly hook you regardless of your prior preferences and by the end, you'll end up with a new appreciation of the topic, which in my opinion is the mark of a great anime.

Nodame is basically college version of Kaguya-sama, but starring Chika as the main character and main love interest to Nodame's version of Miyuki Shirogane, the stoic hardcore student, stubborn and all. Literally, she's even a piano prodigy as well, and have that absolutely chaotic personality, very focused on romance. They are all adults going to music college in this, which is a breath of fresh air from all the highschool anime tropes everywhere.

Romance trope of the highly talented but lacking in emotional intelligence male X ostracized and chaotic female with an inate talent.

Only the concept are similar here. They both uses the Music world as their background for its main story. In Nodame, is the Romance between the protagonist. In Marginal#4, is the Slice of Life of the protagonists that is being showcased. I am recommending the other anime just in case there are people who prefer shows that have a touch of music, but not centering its plot entirely on it. Though there's a notch more music trivia in Nodame than in Marginal#4 Both are lighthearted to a large extend and have their fair share of humour bits thrown around.

A music anime with wonderful characters and great comedy to boot. However, Nodame Cantabile makes music more central to the story, and the characters are college-aged and, therefore, provide a nice change of pace from high school anime without going too drastic.

This is my first recommendation, also english is not my mother tounge, please forgive me for possible shortcomings. I am sure that everybody agrees with me that one of the most important elements of "Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi" is the protagonists dubbing voice, if you do not agree yet then you will find out as soon as you watch "Nodame Cantabile". Tomokazu Seki does a great job in entertaning the audience and defining the special flavour that makes both "SSDK" and "Nodame Cantabile" a pleasure to watch. Also in both anime the protagonist engages in a discipleship under a master with a rather sophisticated personality.  read more

Okay, this is a wacky recommendation since both are different in target audience and content, but they are very similar overall. Both series have a simple but meaningful story about pursuing goals and overcoming trials featuring very realistic characters with very realistic motivations set in the real world. And if this helps, both are very simplistic and comedic in style with great execution: no overly idealistic deep dialogues, no unnecessary complexities of any sorts, no moe, no fanservice, no edginess or whatever that plagues today's industry. Nodame is similar to Shiina in that they need a guy to take care of them but they are both extremely talented. Both have school settings and each series explores the talents that the characters have.

If you loved the character interactions between two characters like Holo and Lawrence and aren't too fussed with watching anime that aren't focused on plot than Nodame Cantabile is a great choice.

The two sets of main characters are very similar. Chiaki is comparable to Nozaki in how they are very stern individuals only focused on one thing. For Chiaki it's music and Nozaki it's his shoujo manga. Nodame is comparable to Sakura in that they have very up-beat personalities and that they share an unrequited love for a guy who is either oblivious to their feelings or is too busy to care. Though it's tough to compare Sakura to Nodame because there is no one character that comes anywhere close to being anywhere as unique as Noda Megumi. Love-At-First-Glance. A girl madly falls in love with the ‘guy’ who does not want anything to do with her, but otherwised gives in. Both "Nodamn Cantabile" and "There she is" takes in this theme. The relationship eventually goes through a process where the 'guy' has to deal with inner-conflict with staying in relationship. "Nodamn Cantabile" has Chiaki and Nodame dealing with their dreams in becoming musician clash with trying to staying together. "There she is" has Nabi and Doki dealing with discrimination. Another great similarity is the hilarious antics of both parties.

Blue Giant and Nodame Cantabile have very different storylines and characters, but this does not matter. I have waited a long time for a music themed anime that is all about the music, that is not an idol show, not a competition, and not a high school anime. The main characters are passionate musicians who must forge their own paths as they face obstacles. If you have also been searching for a music themed anime every season then maybe this movie will be enough.

Anime series about the performing arts excel at showing the passion of the main characters. Yes, they are even better than sports anime, which always involves competitions and winning. Artists must not only acquire technical skills, but have to translate their skills into an emotional journey for their audience. Dance Dance Danseur and Nodame Cantabile accomplishes this excellently with different type of characters. The main characters in Nodame Cantabile are an obsessive perfectionist and an eccentric womanchild. The main characters in Dance Dance Danseur are a tortured artist and a natural performer. Each character grows into better versions of themselves. You will enjoy every moment  read more

Suzuka has Track and Field... Nodame Cantabile has classical music... Both animes have characters at first which don't take what they do seriously. They devote themselves more and more as their love for the other character increases. Suzuka isn't based as heavily on track as Nodame Cantabile is on music. Suzuka has more drama while Nodame Cantabile has more performance. NC is a 2007 anime so it's somewhat more visually and audially appealing. Suzuka isn't as good, but it still has a strong story :)

The stories have very different feels to them, and the characters are very different too, but both are interesting and unique mangas about characters pursuing careers in music. Though NC has a more mature story.

Hetalia is a 5-minute ONA and Nodame is longer than that but I felt that the atmosphere and some of the randomness were quite similar. The drawings kind of reminded me of each other as well. Plus, "South Italy" (Feliciano) really reminds me of Nodame and vice versa.

If you like one, you will definitely like the other. Although they both are very different artificially, on a more fundamental level they are very similar. They both excel at bringing you to a different world and creating unique experiences. The male leads are both strong, admirable, and popular with the ladies. The female leads are both quirky and fun. Music is an important component for both animes although more so for Nodame. However, you feel the same kind of joy, sadness, and passion when you watch them both.

When I started watching Chance Pop Session, I got the same vibe I felt from watching Nodame Cantabile way back when. Though Nodame Cantabile is the superior anime, both are adorable and calming. If you like Chance Pop Session, you'll love Nodame Cantabile, and if you love Nodame Cantabile, it won't hurt to try Chance Pop Session.

Very different stories but both look at performers (figure skating/music) paths and their goals with comedy and romance

Both share the same formula regarding character’s design: No need for extravagant hair colors or big sparkly eyes, just simple and “realistic” character designs. That, and the character’ personality is all you need to love them. Both are set up in the real actual world. Different premises, similar atmosphere, similar protagonist: a young 20 years old lady.

The bittersweet struggle for music. Both show the powerful journey of music, & the devolvement of characters as they dive deep into the world of Music. Although, Nodame has a lot of Comedy & Romance you won't find in Nitaboh. Also, Nitaboh story is based on Japanese Folk Music while Nodame focuses on Westren Classical Music.

Piano lovers may have been disappointed in the lack of "true" piano playing in Piano, and thus, I recommend Nodame Cantabile.

The often playful antics of Holo are very similar to those by Nodame in Nodame Cantabile. Additionally both of the main male characters in Spice and Wolf and Nodame tend to reject the presence of the growing relationship between themselves and the female protagonists of the animes.

These are both rather happy anime that center around self growth in the MC, in Aishiteruze Baby the main character learns responsibility as he goes through many situations while raising his much younger cousin while in Nodame Cantabile she learns about truly understanding a piece of music and the joy it can bring to truly practice with the intent to get better. The key similarity however is the overflowing happiness both bring out, with a slight bit of romance on the side, In Aishiteruze Baby this is a bit more obvious and upfront while in Nodame Cantabile it is much more subtle. Both focus on the hardship of college life and students trying to better themselves. The relationship between the two main protaganists are also similar (Noda helps Chiaka & Misaki helps Satou). Where one is trying to help the other, out of blind love, but is seen as somewhat of a nuisance by the other.

The key similarity is the interaction between the male and female protagonist and their character design (more or less). Chiaki (Nodame Cantabile) is very similar to Naru (Ghost Hunt) in the sense that they are both young, handsome, talented, narcissistic, self centered etc.. Nodame (Nodame Cantabile) is similar to Mai (Ghost Hunt) where they are both klutzie characters, a bit of an air head, but has a latent talent that surprises our male lead. The interaction between the two pairs is what makes the similarity stand out. The super one sided infatuation from both Nodame and Mai to Chiaki and Naru respectively are pretty much the same.  read more

The most striking resemblance I see in these two anime series is in the characters Arima and Chiaki - their background, character and weaknesses (which are all further explored in their respective manga series). Both are laugh-out-loud funny at times but have similar themed dark moments. If you didn't like the wait for Nodame and Chiaki to finally establish their relationship, Kare Kano is refreshing in that their romantic relationship hits off pretty early in the series. If you loved the romance between Nodame and Chiaki and wanted more, Kare Kano is for you.

If you loved the role of music in Nodame Cantabile and want to experience an anime series that shares the theme in a completely different genre, then RahXephon is a must watch. Despite being a mecha anime series, music plays a central role in setting the atmosphere and representing characters' emotions and actions throughout the anime series.

Both series feature the ups and downs of being a superstar in the music/acting business. The relationships made by the lead characters share similar interactions. Akito and Sana share many characteristics with Chiaki and Nodame. However, Kodocha tackles much darker themes later on in the series.

While Nodame Cantabile main focus is music, the mood both anime set is pretty similar in my opinion: both are light-hearted slice of life animes with a similar amount of comedy and romance and revolve around healthy relationships and the personal growth of its characters. Both main characters are straight-forward but weird girls, although in a different way, while their levels of effort towards their goals are quite the opposite (at least in the beginning).
