Both anime have a very similar feel to them. Bakemonogatari however, is darker than Arakawa Under The Bridge. Arakawa contains more light-hearted random humour and is generally a more happy series, where Bakemonogatari is more about removing oddities which may end up killing people, etc Bakemonogatari also contains random humour, but as I already said, it has a darker atmosphere than Arakawa. The art is also kinda similar.

It's SHAFT, it's a quirky cast, it's the same main voice actor (KAMIYA!!), it's random culture references, and it's witty/ridiculous humor everywhere. If you liked one of them, the other comedy would probably make you laugh just as much. Note: Arakawa under the Bridge has a romantic plot (Nino <3) but Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei does not.

You will constantly laugh your head off watching these.
report Recommended by BreezeElric
Similar humor, randomness, almost all characters is abnormal, and both is so funny.
report Recommended by Passionate-kun
Both are offbeat comedies about an ordinary guy, his sort-of-romantic-but-not-really relationship with a girl who claims to be an alien, and their unconventional friends and peers. Arakawa's gag series nature renders it a lot sillier than Denpa Onna, but it's not without its own ridiculous elements. And of course both are directed by Shinbo, so you can't leave out his signature style.

When i watch Arakawa it totally reminds me of Seto no Hanayome, it gives me the same feeling. It has the same humor and both Anime have to do with Water and a Boy whos together with the Girl through an accident where the Girl saved the Boy. The only difference is that the Boy in Seto no Hanayome must marry the Girl and in Arakawa he shall just be her Boyfriend.

Aliens meet main character. Main character suddenly is surrounded by a bunch of unique people. Hilarity ensues.
report Recommended by BreezeElric
Both are quirky, unique shows about a group of strange people living together, featuring one person new to the group, with occasional heartwarming and/or romantic undercurrents.
report Recommended by Lindle
Anime in which a narcissistic male protagonist is tasked (or self-appointed) with saving a society that is forgotten by the public. The female lead rarely shows her emotions, but is implied (or stated) that she has a crush on the male lead. Both can be considered comedic series, but they take different approaches. Amagi Park is more like your everyday school anime, with mainly teenagers interacting with each other. Arakawa is a gag comedy, and surprisingly quite thought-provoking at times.
report Recommended by bunny1ov3r
Both are subversive comedies that frequently make you go WTF as you watch.
report Recommended by Numi
Both series are about young men meeting and coming to live with an alien (coincidentally both aliens have long blond hair and kind of similar character designs). Although Arakawa is more comedy focused, the comedic moments of Level E feel quite similar, as do Arakawa's dramatic parts.
report Recommended by shadowcat2323
Different people with different personalities adds up to one funny story, and thats what these two anime is about.
report Recommended by w3b0shi
Arakawa is about a rational guy trying to adapt to the ridiculous lifestyle of crazy people under a bridge. Cromartie is about a rational guy trying to adapt to the ridiculous lifestyle of a deranged high school. Both are filled with hilarious characters that range from seemingly normal people to gangsta robots. Each series is a chaotic ride full of randomness upon randomness upon randomness.
report Recommended by WAXCHUG
Both shows are wonderfully weird and quirky. They also have similar art in that they're very colourful, pretty and nice to view. Although Mawaru Penguindrum is much more serious in parts, it has a similar air and feel to Arakawa Under the Bridge. :)
report Recommended by SaraSlurpsCoffee
Strange people doing strange things. Both are extremely funny.
report Recommended by toinkine
Just another random but very funny comedy show. Both don't really have interesting plots. But both have unique characters and lots of funny moments. It's a different setting, story and characters, but watching both shows will feel pretty much the same.
report Recommended by WeeziMonkey
The characters are really funny and seem to have nothing better to do with their lives than going around and interacting with the rest of the cast. There doesn't seem to be much of a plot in either and both put a heavy emphasis on comedy and dialogue.
report Recommended by ItsmeAshtray
They both have laugh-out-loud moments that are strange or over the top. All the characters have their own quirks. The episodes have a similar format, with each episode consisting of a couple short segments that begin with their own 'title screen'
report Recommended by tplusent
Both have the same Atmosphere, comedy and randomess.both male leads,Koyomi and Kou are practically the same and have to deal with weirdos around them plus they got the same Seiyuu.Arakawa uses aliens as the source while Monogatari series is using ghosts, vampires etc and both are by SHAFT
report Recommended by amirhoss
Similar comedy and range of quirky characters. Draws you in in a similar way.
report Recommended by Deschan
Both anime are comedies that involve a character entering the strange and bizarre world of another. The main heroine also have the same blunt personality where they seem to take everything literally and don't have the basic understanding of how one should act within normal society. Arakawa differs as an highly narcissistic guy enters the bizarre world of a variety of quirky characters. While Hinamatsuri involves an strange girl with psychic powers entering the life of a member of the Yakuza. If you enjoyed one you its sense of humour you will likely enjoy the other as well.
report Recommended by Akoram
Both are seinen with comedy and romance. Both criticize society. Each character has its unique characteristic and both have adult characters.
report Recommended by Usotsukki
A rational person has to deal with a weird group of people. You get to see that rational "straight guy" character squirming in both series. It gives a sense of a Comedic Duo stage act. While both still has a small sense of an overall plot, it's strength is in the comedy. They both have a few references to pop culture of the time, video games, or anime. And occasionally drops a serious tone in the series, so it isn't just on an endless escalation of laughs.
report Recommended by lackofwords
Both series features a protagonist who one day certainly gains a "mysterious" girlfriend. Both series employ strange humor that is mixed in with comedy, drama, and romance. Both series has a fun approach in various episodes that reflects upon life and their relationship as well as interactions with other characters in the series.
report Recommended by Stark700
I believe both anime are incredible similar both in genre (comedy, every day life) and in the story. In both of them a young man from the city is forced to live in an environment he isn't used to, in a smaller, more closed and tied community, interact with many people, learn to enjoy the little things in life, find his true self and mature. Great humour is guaranteed as well as some life lessons from another, more simple and laid back point of view in life.
report Recommended by MimisMan
Both anime have similliar feel, how they empasize deep meaning of both life, and relationship. not to mention they have a lot of same seiyu. The ending song both sung by Suneohair. If you like arakawa, surely you'll love honey and clover and vice versa.
report Recommended by patkaiclan
light hearted romance.good dose of comedy.light on the cliche drama side.these are the main points which appealed to my taste. also the main heroines for both are withdrawn and the protagonist makes effort to reach them. both have a colorful sub cast
report Recommended by opzoro
Both of these are great parodies. They are both hilarious comedies with a little bit of romance. The music was also catchy and cute in each. (Parodies are not for everyone) So if you loved or even liked one you like the other.
report Recommended by Meagoo
Both series are comedic slice-of-life romances with perfectionist male leads and relatively strange female leads. The male leads are frequently frustrated with the antics of the female leads, but in the end both couples really do seem to care for each other.
report Recommended by Triplicity
Both have strange female characters and sort of bizarre setting.
report Recommended by Baka_xD
A fairy normal person becomes involved with a group of not-so-normal people. Everyone has a quirk of some sort that is very fun to watch. Both are very hilarous!!
report Recommended by GothicShadow22
Both are gag comedies that involve the use of wacky and unusual characters getting themselves into comedic situations. If you like one for its humour and wide variety of different characters you’ll definitely like the other.
report Recommended by Akoram
These two are full of weird characters and similar humor. You probably wouldn't want to meet to many of them in real life, though that only adds to the comedy. They've generally got similar vibes, though Arakawa tends to rely more on gags and randomness for it's humor.
report Recommended by Xaeveax
Good time to reflect on life and smile a little.
report Recommended by neonehuurre
Ushio and Nino are scarily similar in terms of character design. Long blonde hair parted down the middle, blue eyes, dressed in a school swimsuit. Supernatural oddballs, romantic interests.
report Recommended by PlzAllow
Both of these series are just some of the funniest things I have ever seen. Arakawa isn't quite as ecchi but it is just as funny. Arakawa doesn't have quite as many girls and isn't a harem type but all the characters have eccentric personalities which will end up making you laugh and love.
report Recommended by giby1
Both series are directed by Akiyuki Shinbou and have the same art. They both are confusing and mysterious at first and don't make much sense (especially at the beggining). Finally, they both have the same sense of humour (the kind-of-lame yet fuuny jokes).
report Recommended by Atani
Both will make you laugh Both are colorful and creative Both have crazy/weird characters.

-both are gag anime -both got weird kind of humor -both got wicked characters -both got great openings and simmilar endings If you liked the Arakawa under The Bridge you should watch Polar Bear Caffe :)

Although Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken has shorter episodes it has nothing to be jealous of when it comes to comparing it to other comedy anime! It also has the plus that, like Arakawa under the Bridge, it has a story to develop which is rather cute and sweet apart from witty and funny!
report Recommended by kelpiechan
I think the animation and colors are similar. It is also a comedy anime and characters have their unique personality. The theme of the episode is changing every few minutes, as if they were short films on various topics.
report Recommended by cinnodom
Both animes have quirky characters and are great with comedic timing. There are a lot of unispected situations that get explained on a unexpected ways

both main character are quite similar in term of comedy..

Both are romantic comedy animations starring a young couple in which the boy is aware of the madness that surrounds him and has his humor built on that aspect, while the girl is always chill and although also initially strange to the absurd content of that universe, calmly dives into said bizarre events and even ends up participating in them.

Both of these shows have a wacky, dynamic and art. They are both similar in humour and style. I hope that if you liked one of these shows, you would also find enjoyment with the other. :)

The mc is someone whos "normal" and is the only one who doesnt think that things in the show are normal. These shows also give u a crazy chaotic fun without any rules and both of them have some real life "troll" footage.
report Recommended by spinjitsumaestro
I know it seems rather bizarre, but the fourth season of JJBA, at least the first episodes of it, and AuB are pretty similar since they both are episodic, present a quirky cast of character, have a bright color scheme and have a more complex plot developing underneath the episodic adventures.
report Recommended by _demonpox
They are slice of life lighthearted comedies, about people fitting in new circumstances they got involved in, accompanied by a group of people with different quirks.
report Recommended by maattthhhh
Ok, this is how its similar, you take a few random crazy characters and a sane one, then you put them in senarios and see how it plays out. Also, the character design in Arakawa Under the Bridge and Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is very VERY similar.
report Recommended by FoxFix
The type of comedy is kind of similar, both protagonists are the 'straight men' surrounded by weird and eccentric characters who aren't aware of how weird they are. Arakawa Under the Bridge has more absurdest comedy than D-Frag, to the extent where 'mentally ill' might be a better term for most of the characters than 'eccentric'. Arakawa could sometimes get slow at parts, that wasn't an issue with D-Frag (but D-frag is shorter). Neither anime has a conclusive ending. D-frag is in highschool, Arakawa's cast is mostly adult.
report Recommended by Gerhakiki
Humor are the same. Animation style is also identical. We are also dealing with the same airhead MC girl. While Arakawa is the more unique and downright weird, the comedy factor and style of story telling is the same. Also, both anime are very fun to watch. After your done watching Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, go to Arakawa Under the Bridge right away.
report Recommended by Gazz
-both are about a bunch of people and their daily lives -humour is similar, too -both are tagged as romance anime, but romance is there for the sake of comedy -both interest lovers of the main characters are kuudere -all characters are unique and funny
report Recommended by JuliaCNDSVH
They are totally different in the atmosphere but they both are seinen, and they both share a Mature Romance plus the main character in both is an awesome businessman, who is an adult with his own moral for good. If you like Arakawa, you may like Salaryman Kintarou.
report Recommended by kentick
Intriguing characters framed tastefully with humor as an integral and necessary element.
report Recommended by Gaia_Riot
It is similar in the way that both male characters get thrust into the crazy reality of the female mc. The difference is that this deals with more reality and Chuunibyou deals more with fantasy.
report Recommended by Takishima_Shin
To be honest they're both kinda wack, but that's what makes both of these anime so unique. Both anime take a normal guy, the protagonist, and put him with a bunch of crazy people! The animation in both anime is very crisp, and the mood is light. Plot and character development aren't major in either anime, but character interaction is. The stories both flow, and the voice actors do great jobs. Mostly comedy but also some romance and a tiny little bit of action. They're both really unique and spontaneous based anime, so if you watch for comedy then you're sure to enjoy!

Both are comedy shows with a male protagonist who is lost between two worlds.

The main character finds a strange place and his life changes because of a woman. Also, both characters are surrounded by really strange creatures.
report Recommended by kaiteshin-daichi
The most similar feature between the two animes is their visuals. Both share the same director (along with Bakemonogatari), so the cuts, frames and scenes are trated with the same flawless, colorful, detailed characters and impressive backgrounds. That is a priviledge as a viewer, and a pleasure if you have read the manga. The storylines are not exactly related, but both are about a main male character (Ko and Raku) who, because of things that are out of his hands (health condition in Ko´s case, a family deal in Raku`s case), end up romantically attached to a woman they did not know. Also, both are  read more

Both shows are animated by Studio SHAFT and has a similar, surreal type of humor and strange characters.

Both are about adult characters, and both are about a main character that finds a group of weirdo people. HenSemi is more sexual and deals with fetishes and such, while Arakawa is more about people that have delusions about themselves, like only being able to walk on a white line.
report Recommended by little_robot
both are comedies with a male protagonist who deals with weird and supernatural stuff

Extremely similar animation style (the borders used in various frames are direct clones), similar episode pacing, same genre (supernatural romance comedy), same production company, same director, same sound director, same script writer, 3 of the 10 seiyu in NnA appear in AUtB.

Totally insane comedies. Arakawa's animation resembles Sunred's too, in my opinion.

Kyon and Recruit have a lot of similarities, especially in their role in the series. They're both surrounded by a quirky cast and see themselves as the 'normal' one.

Even though I have a bright future ahead of me , I'm willing to stay here with her for the rest of my life!! In both show, the main couple has show strong bond, if not affection, for each other. In one show there is a realistic tearflooding reason. In the other show however, the reason is picked randomly from the book of random humor 1998. I will throw away every single bit of my dream!! (as NASA scientists or whatever) Jvzt 2 b w|th h3r!!

These are Seinen comedies featuring a cast full of mascots per se that leaves a lot to one's imagination with each experiencing their own set of problems (namely adult problems for some). They both also feature many predominant voice actors in the industry that audiences can mutually appreciate.
report Recommended by IchiroEX
Share the wacky humor that are not bounded by the laws of physics. Character design are not bounded, either. Genetically you can't give birth to some organism like them, ever, with or without GMO. Another proof that anime studios are better than NASA in term of messing with mysterious lifeforms.
report Recommended by lapisdragon
I think they both have the same kind of troll humor about how the main character is always 'bullied' by his environment. I enjoyed both of the series also because of SHAFT's hilarious way of producing every scene
report Recommended by HRinka
The set up of both shows are similar in that the episodes are divided into segments or parts. Kokonotsu Shikada is similar Kou Ichinomiya in that they are both expected to take on their family business and have to put up with an eccentric female lead that goes against the norms of society.
report Recommended by Ultima_Oblivion
Gag comedy. Both are not the extremely violent kind, and there are characters that question the sanity, thoughts and actions of the others. Both are enjoyable.

It has a same episode structure of having many "episodes" in one and focuses on the daily life of the protagonists on an interesting setting.

They both have that calm feel to it. They talk about important values and they are both one of those nice, gentle anime.

both these anime's realy mess with the suspenison of disbelief, making you wonder what is fiction inside the realm of the series and what is not.
report Recommended by itsthedust
Both series are produced by Shaft hence the outrageously humor that takes place in the series through the usage of word play. Both series contain heavy use of dialogue as well as comedy, drama, and romance. Ef - A tale of Memories swings a bit more on the mature side while Arakawa Under the Bridge features more on humor. Both series however contain an unique style that moves the viewer.
report Recommended by Stark700
I think both anime have a lot of similarities, but I am sure that everyone who likes one will like the other too. Anyway, both have a stupid character who does stupid things and similar gags and scenarios. Bother are also a nonsense-comedy done in short skits.

Both Arakawa Under The Bridge and Excel Saga are comedy and paraody anime based on random humour and improbable situations, although Arakawa has a little bit more story, and Excel Saga more randomness, respectivily.

Both of these shows involve space, weather it be Mars or Venus... These shows are similar with character design too. Uchuu Kyoudai has a warmer feel though, isn't based on gag comedy, and remains more "down to earth."
report Recommended by Nikoru-san
Well, these two series are quite absurd but in a rather fun and amusing way. Both series has a ALOT of comedy, gags, and a strange cast of characters. With these cast of characters comes forth comedy, drama, and romance although presented in a peculiar way. Both series' OP songs are very catchy. Additionally being part of Shaft, expect strange humor delivered to your eyes with a stranger story that is worth the watch.
