Both series deal with unique takes on time travel and the consequences of changing the past. They both have elements of comedy and romance and both surprised me as they wouldn't normally be shows/movies I'm drawn to.

Instead of being reminded of Shinkai's other FAR more melancholic/sappy offerings, watching Your Name reminded me very much of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in tone and direction. They begin as something akin to 'supernatural sit-coms' where a supernatural element is inserted into the daily lives of high school kids and fun silliness ensues. They do later switch their emphasis to drama but there's never an overwhelming sense of despair. There's also a spoilerific aspect that links Your Name with TGWLTT... but, yeah: SPOILERS.

A great love story is what brings Toki wo and 5 cm together. Each involves love between people who are not yet adult but are not children, platonic love, and pure feelings between pure souls. You'll enjoy the romantic atmosphere that permeates through both titles.

When I first saw Girl Who Leaped Through Time, I thought about Wisper of the Heart. The plot is compleetly different, but their romantic mood and slice-of-life topics are very close.

While watching Ame to Yuki i had the same lighthearted and yet bittersweet feeling that gave me Toki wo Kakeru Shojo. Not only they share a very similar artstyle, which is very pleasant, but also both movies share a strong supernatural theme who quickly become the main focus of the story. Both plot are told gently and can make you experience some nice time to spend watching. Also, both series share a very important element that they show in their own way: love trascend time and any kind of race. Absolutly recommended both titles! Because they both might have the power to let you tell, after watching them, "Why  read more

First off, Mahou isn't romance (then again, Toki wa kakeru shoujo doesn't display a lot of romance) but both animes are both built upon a solid relationship with loved ones and friends. Mahou Shoujo: Magic Girls. However, is not like Sailor Moon or Pretty Cure, but displays more darker and chaotic elements within that involve time, space, and energy. A quintet of girls involve themselves with giving up their souls to a cat-like crature who is titled "the Messenger of Magic". In return, they are granted a wish and are turned into a magic girl to fend off the city by killing witches to clean  read more

Both are heart warming stories with sci-fi/ supernatural about a lively girl and her relationship with a boy. Both have a beautiful end.

The main characters have to fix major problems in their lives using a macguffin that allows time travel. Both have above average animation but The Girl Who Leapt Through Time beats Fireworks in that department by far.

Similar concept, time travelling + little bit of romance both are very well animated but Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo has better story and characters imo

Both these series play with the idea of time travel and its consequences. Both deal with interpersonal relationships as well as the loss of a loved one really well. Honestly, both had me on an emotional roller coaster and were good at investing the viewer into their world. They reminded me of each other not only plot-wise, but atmosphere-wise as well. If you like one, try the other.

Both MC can go back in time if they are dead meaning it will restart again

both focus on the issues of youth as well as nice to look at art and character designs and time alteration as well too.

They are both romance with a bit of another genre. The romance is heart warming and when it seems like they are going to end there is a bit more. I feel that at times I lost a little interest in Clannad but the ending made up for it. I recommend the Dub for The Girl who leapt through time (if you like dubs that is) but I don't recommend the dub at all for Clannad (try to watch sub, you could probably get though Clannad on dub but once you get to After Story the dubbing cast gets worse).

Both deal with a group of highschool students as well as a supernatural factor (particularly time travel). I found both animes had likeable characters and a unique plot. If your into coming of age stories with a twist on the supernatural, with interesting characters than you will most likely like these two animes.

The art between these two anime series are extremly similar and while only one arc, but this movie have the same concept " time travling for good reasons always gets back at you ". The romance is a supporting role which is pretty well done.

When one is given the ability to live frivolously, their entire life is put in perspective. Both centre around the theme of being granted something precious but expendable, and the morality and choices behind how to use this thing. Both great shows with a sense of mystery.

Both are fun and sad anime at the same time. The endings are surprising and will make you cry a lot.

-Both deal with similar supernatural such as time-traveling, etc. -Both animes give off a summer vibe type of anime. -They all revolve around 3 people who ended up becoming best friends with one another making heartwarming memories. -In both animes, they go through a lot of personal problems which causes a rift in their relationship, and lots of character development -both will make you cry and leave you wondering what to do with the rest of your life

Romance is approached very differently in anime movies compared to anime series. I find that romance anime movies benefit from tighter narratives because emotion is better realized without having many subplots. Bubble and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time demonstrates this point perfectly. Both movies use sci-fi plot devices so that the main characters can discover their romantic feelings in the third act.

Two romantic comedies that deals with the main character traveling through time to alter future events.
report Recommended by xo_cl2
Both movies deal with both a very realistic side, namely the school and home sides of the characters, while they have a fantasy side to it. Namely Time-Traveling and Witches. They both deal with similar problems the girls are going through and how they solve them.
report Recommended by Ilyaoh
Both animes deal with the profound concepts of romance, friendship, and the value of time. Time affects the lives of the characters, implying how precious time truly is and how it can affect the lives of so many. Even memories play the part in the development of character. Furthermore, the animations are enthralling. If you enjoyed one of these, you'll definitely enjoy the other. :]

Consequences to actions. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Spirited Away both follow a protagonist who gets more than they bargained for. TokiKake's energetic but somewhat delusional Makoto uses her time travel powers for her own convenience, Spirited Away's Chihiro starts off as a bratty child who wants things her way. They both suffer from their own wills as a result which leads them to grow and understand how things really function in the world they didn't understand at first. Both are great films with one being a Ghibli adventure classic, the other being made by the glory of which Madhouse can bring.

More than a friend? Lovely Complex and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time both follow female protagonists who use a superficial layer when coming across with one other. TokiKake does this with Makoto and Chiaki, LoveCom does this with Koizumi and Ootani. Both Makoto and Koizumi lie to themselves over and over again when it comes to the two boys. Both are great romance anime with TokiKake having sci-fi features to it, whereas LoveCom is dedicated to the shoujo demographic.

Delusions. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time both follow delusions students who constantly reject the reality around them. Chuunibyou's Rikka rejects reality with her imagination enforced by the chuunibyou behaviour she has. TokiKake's Makoto rejects the normality of an orderly time path, where she constantly goes back in time to fix things accordingly to her. Both are interesting romance anime about the different ways people cope with their struggles life has given to them. All in a school setting.

Is this what you really want? The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Toradora both have the similarities of one lying to themselves when it comes to one other. Without going into too much detail the protagonists Makoto and Taiga are both in the same both when it comes to the view of Chiaki and Ryuuji respectively, only using a superficial level of communication to express their thoughts to. Both are good romance anime about the things you really value and how one goes about it.

Love is more often than not, a painful and bittersweet experience. Mature depictions of love is something often taken for granted in anime, these two pieces showcase the best of what the genre has to offer.

They don't have much in common except for the time leap thing were in "Nobunaga Concerto" some highschool boy somehow gets send into the war era in japan...

Both anime focus on young main heroines who have the power to travel in time. In both anime, the main heroine uses her time travel powers to prevent undesirable situations from happening, but discovers that the usage of her powers also has side effects too. Overall, both shows have similar concepts, as well a similar mood.
report Recommended by BohemianRhapsody
Both movies are works of director Mamoru Hosoda and share a similar atmosphere as they both start in a light hearted and funny manner and become more serious in a believable way later. Although they were not produced at the same studio the movies have similar detail reduced artwork and really splendid animation.

Time traveling is all fun and games until someone gets hurt, in these show cases, a lot of hurt. Both deal with the time travel paradox and have bittersweet conclusions where characters have to face reality vs the paradise ideal.

Consequences. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Golden Time both use MCs with connections to past and present concurrently, suffer because of so. TokiKake is about Makoto and the usual consequences that result in bending time to your will. Golden Time, however, uses a different take on the battle time can propose with Tada endlessly conflicting with his past self. Both are good romance anime revolving around the way time/the past can put up a fight with those that wish to fight against it.
report Recommended by NextUniverse
The selfish can change. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Charlotte both follow selfish protagonists who use their powers for their own convenience. TokiKake has Makoto and her time travel powers to help her with regular day stuff. Charlotte has Yuu and his mind control ability abused to do whatever the hell he wants. Both are good romance anime where the ones you don't think you are super close to, are the ones who have the greatest impact on one.

Animes that highly incorporates the idea of time traveling concept to deliver its climax. I think that both are very entertaining and fun to watch. Are balanced when it comes to their comedic and dramatic value. Highly recommend.

Same general themes of time travel and coming of age, with one being a movie and the other being a show. Both were made by "auteur" studios so if you like the feel of one, I think you'll definitely like the feel of the other.

Girl with love issues goes on some insane quest to resolve those issues. TokiKake is really good at doing this in comparison to Over the Sky, however, both still manage to at least present such madness in their own style. TokiKake has a coherent plot with reason and a message compared to a haphazardly attached Over the Sky, I guess it has its zany nature to praise for something unique though. Use this as a TokiKake → Over the Sky recommendation if you want to see something silly. Otherwise, just watch TokiKake if you haven't already. A very good choice.

Breaking the law of nature. Weathering with You and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time both follow students who mess up with the omnipotent laws of the world. In doing so, these protagonists end up getting the mighty force of nature impacting their lives in the sense they had not wished for. TokiKake has time leaper Makoto. Weathering with You has duo Hodaka and "sunshine girl" Hina. Both are good romance anime deemed as epic visual works. In which, touch into the fictional aspects of sci-fi and supernatural respectively.

Both of these movies have a very similar "vibe". Honestly, as soon as I started watching both of these movies the first things I noticed were the unique atmosphere and similar art design. Both of these shows imho have a very similar feel throughout, have a very similar soundtrack, characters and even the storylines have the same sort of sci-fi feel. Cencoroll being only 25 minutes, doesn't have the same rememberability about it, but if you like "the girl who leapt through time" then you will most likely love this hidden gem as well. Retry. Tokikate and ReLife both follow two individuals who can take it upon themselves to go back in time to try again on what the past had to offer. Though Tokikate follows a naive Makoto and the constant disordered leaps in time in the name of fixing minor daily life mistakes, ReLife separates with its base time travel to high school life in the name of retrieving qualities lost within Kaizaki. Both are good anime with Tokikake being a movie, in comparison to ReLife's TV show with comedy to add onto. They share the same amounts of romance and drama too.

Being young enables people to do dumb things, why? It is due to inexperience, as well as a lack of understanding. Characters Makoto, Kotarou, and Akane are no exception to this. Within their stories, Tsukigakirei shows that young love is very hard to stabilize with two somewhat rational parties. TokiKake shows that human psyche can sometimes get the best of us when we are at face view with awesome power. But even in being young and dumb, there is learning taking place. All MCs learn about how their respective lives should work and what measures should be taken at a said point, whether you like it  read more

The unlikely helper. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time both follow the unlikely ones to help who end up being the most helpful. Bunny Girl Senpai has loner Sakuta help out the different heroines with their problems, TokiKake has energetic idiot type character Makoto, use her time travelling powers for her own convenience, only to make better use of these powers as she realises that she isn't doing the best with her powers. Both are good romance anime with Bunny Girl Senpai adding supernatural attributes, TokiKake adding sci-fi ones instead.

An arrogant one. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and The Boy and The Beast both follow arrogant minded young people who begin to learn that their ways aren't necessarily the best way to handle things in life. Time leaping Makoto finds herself in a hassle due to her unthoughtful use of jumping through time constantly. Ren is different in that he is a bratty child who ends up separated from the human world. Even though they don't have a similar plot, messages given through them seems almost same to me. We are told the concept of "protection" and "devotion" with different stories. Both will make your heart broke but warm at the same time.

These shows have a similar approach to telling a coming-of-age story. They're not absolutely similar, but they leave the same aftertaste. I'd say they have a similar vibe.

They share romantic themes with their focus on young love, and both have a tragic edge to them near the end. Plus, both of the films center around the visual motif of a girl running. As such, I often tell people that The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo) feels very much like it was made by Satoshi Kon (director of Millennium Actress).

Although Natsu no Arashi leans more toward the comedy genre, both share a time traveling girl. Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is much more serious. Both are excellent animes.

Both these films are grounded in a reality close to ours, and the animation reflects that, from the backgrounds to the character design. In addition they both use fantastical events, science fiction in one and a magical realism in the other, as a device to explore deeper human relationships and to a certain extent causality. They are both charming stories told with a light touch that don't try to hit you over the head with their themes like so much else out there. Apart from the fact that both anime (ovie the one series the other) have the romantic feature as their main feature they have a very similar way on showing how protagonists deal with situations unknown to them!!! They also have the fact of the unknown for different reason each! I shouldn't say more because it would be a spoiler but in my opinion these both have more similarities than meets the eye!

Both have beautiful art and are about seemingly normal girls but have more supernatural things going on in their lives then meets the eye. In Toki wo kakeru shoujo the girl is aware of the supernatural aspect of her life while in Black Rock Shooter she has no idea about. Both supernatural aspects of the girls affects others memories around them.Black Rock Shooter is more of a action/drama while Toki wo kakeru shoujo is a ScyFy/drama.

both of these truly amazing pieces of art deal with the danger that comes with messing with unmei (fate) and the beauty and fragility of the moment that is now - we must learn to appreciate what we have while we have it, to appreciate ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) which is impermanence - both also made me cry and laugh a lot - if your looking for truly transcendent anime, look no further!!!
