Water-themed slice of life shows bursting with colour where attractive boys bond over water-related activities, such as fishing or swimming. Tsuritama is the wholesome one, the one you wouldn't mind introducing to your grandma. Free!, however, positively delights in showing you just -how- attractive these boys are. Blushy blush.

Both stories involve a friendship between a kind-hearted human and an innocent fish (taking on the appearance of a human). Ponyo is about an innocent love between two children, where Tsuritama is about creating friendships and working hard to understand each other.

Bright colors mixed with a dark story line plus the experimental additions to the animation scattered about at nice intervals. The characters are unique and have depth to them and the suspension slowly builds up to a grand finale.

Both these anime are about the sea and friendship. for the sake of preventing spoilers, lets say something big happens in both anime that are related to the sea. additionally both are drama based.

Both series focus on a trio of youths who have found themselves in inexplicable, otherworldly challenges that they have to overcome while utilizing the power of friendship. The shows have similar styles and relatively lighthearted tones to them. The biggest difference is that there is a lot more focus on buttholes in Sarazanmai as compared to Tsuritama.

Aliens, comedy and bright colors. A slow paced story that is also a story about growing up. What more could you ask for? How about aliens interrupting the day to day lives of normal people and the normal crazy antics of teens.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Both stories that blend together fantasy and the everyday with perfection. Tsuritama goes a more Science fiction route while The Eccentric Family involves yokai, but both are sure to please with their easy attitude, great characterization, wonderful fantasy and expert story-telling that gives both anime that little something extra.

Aliens meet main character. Main character suddenly is surrounded by a bunch of unique people. Hilarity ensues.

Tsuritama and Summer Wars both have colorful, vibrant art styles and animation. Both also focus on bonds between characters, though Tsuritama deals with friendship while Summer Wars deals with family bonds. The suspense in both has the same feel to it, and both have to do with saving the world. The tone, atmosphere, and mood are also very similar in both.

Coming of age stories about overcoming social aloofness and awkwardness with a little help from friends and in this case, boys in high school. KtB has a charming romantic subplot while Tsuritama shows how hobbies can be encouraging and shared passions. There are also cheerful characters who push the story forward.

The subject of aliens come up in both anime and both Anime have styles that are experimental in their own ways, not to mention both Anime use bright colors. Both are also about coming out of your shell.

Tsuritama almost immediately reminded me of FLCL: impressive art, soundtrack, balance of seriousness and humor, insanity underlined with the motifs of puberty and coming of age among other things. While the main characters are not identical, they are both bored, awkward boys who become mixed up with an alien. Tsuritama lacks the thought provoking symbols and complex development that FLCL has, but overall they are both an enjoyable ride on the crazy train of adolescence.

Both of these Anime have very different story lines, but they have a similar art style and they take their genre and do something different with it.

Serious main characters with quirks that are surrounded by strange individuals. Both shows have a laid-back cheery feel inspired by small town island life

Both shows focus on shut protagonists who grow/develop through their experiences with other weird characters. Both shows as well have very summery vibes to them through art style, OST, overall production

- Fishing - School life/slice of life - Calming and has funny moments - All one gender (all female or all male cast)
report Recommended by cornonacob
The series start with an an extraordinary outsider being introduced to a close community of people. Places that feel like tight little utopias this other person has stumbled into. From it all unexpected bonds are made and there's a great sense of belonging involved. Where problems come out by everyone helps out. Coupled with that is a refreshing feeling from the designs and colors of the two series.

Both are slice of life comedy shows about a group of friends (boys in one, girls in the other) in a small town by the waterside. Both have a friendly alien in the group. Tsuritama is more comedic and is also about fishing, whereas Sora no Method is just about girls being cute.

If you gender-flip the characters, you'll realize these two anime have a lot in common, from both having a set of four quirky main protagonists (complete with one who is secretly or not-so-secretly a fish-like alien in both), to the dazzling color palette and great animation with retro-rock vibe openings and endings, and 12-episode run. Both anime focus on friendship (and aliens?) although they also both have their unique spin on how they do that. Tsuritama throws in a fishing angle (yes, it's about fishing, and somehow it's glorious and makes complete sense!) as well as humor and a light, but solid, use of real  read more

Somewhat similar art, out of the ordinary plot, both main characters are named Yuki, has to do with "aliens"

They're lighthearted and fun stories about friendship and opening up with unique art styles, interesting symbolism, and quirky characters.

Both Tsuritama and Lu no Uta take place in a fishing village and have a group of kids befriending a supernatural being. Without spoiling anything, let me just say that these two have basically the same setting and have a lot of similar elements, including villagers helping the main group, local legends, and, of course, lots and lots of seawater and fish. Both anime are extremely colorful and beautifully directed. In my opinion, Tsuritama explores the topic of friendship better and its characters are a bit more interesting while Lu no Uta is basically a family movie mostly carried by the directional talent of Masaaki Yuasa.  read more

Learn to fish, develop an identity and friends and want to live fully with these animes! Melancholic slice of life feel-good animes about fishing and getting out of a pessimistic and aimless way of life. NegaPosi is about debts and Tsuritama is about aliens.
report Recommended by Fumiku
They both center around aliens on earth with a mostly humorous take on it. Level C has a very unique and bright style which sometimes take somewhat dark turns. It also features an overly optimistic alien who annoys his human host.
report Recommended by Alvinna
Similar summer time mood, similar humor, similar settings. An eccentric and not-quite-human character comes to live with an unsuspecting host family and causes them havoc, while also bringing about their own character growth. They each remind me of the other, and I imagine anyone who enjoys one will enjoy both.

The greatest aspect of their similarities lies in the light summer theme they share. Refreshing, breezy series revolving around water one way or another with personal relationships at the center; a perfect combination for a relaxing time. While Tsuritama is a bit on the sci-fi genre with a few supernatural phenomena, they both include a friendship between a socially awkward person and an extremely energetic, albeit difficult to understand at times, one and how they affect each other. Simple comedy that relies on the characters' interactions on an everyday basis and when it comes to it, a story about growing up and discovering your potential. As  read more

Somehow Tsuritama and Durarara!! remind me of each other. Maybe it's the art, sound, or style, who knows. I really love how all the characters fit together and interact.

Both shows contain extremely colourful scenes and have a Slice-Of-Life catered feel. The topic of aliens is also present in both in which, 'Tsuritama' has a main character who is an alien and 'Kono Danshi, Uchuujin to Tatakaemasu' has a main character who defeats aliens. The characters are also a similarity; the main casts being completely male. There are also some moments that take place in the main characters thoughts. Lastly, both shows contain very light Shounen Ai.

If you liked the Swimming Anime CM then you'll probably like Tsuritama (vice versa as well). They both involve boys getting in/near/around the water. Well in the Swimming Anime CM only one boy is actually shown in the water but that's practically good enough. And both shows emphasis male friendships.
report Recommended by shuffleair
Despite a completely different plot, premise, characters and style, somehow I just feel that if you like one, you'll like the other. Both series have very colourful artstyles which make the universes unique. The characters are elaborate and fun it their own way. Creative storytelling makes both series very enjoyable (but confusing in the first few episodes). If you like short quirky anime then you should check this one out.

-Multiple individuals brought together for a certain circumstance -Great character growth for all main characters -Off-beat main character -Final part of the group is an outsider or is in someway against the main group for majority of series

they both give the same feeling. I don't really know how to say that, but when I watch tsuritama I always think it's really similar to mekakucity actors. maybe it's the characters or the complicated story. It's a feeling I can't really find a word for.

These shows are very different in tone, but a major aspect they share is a main character with severe social anxiety and isolation that encounters a person who changes their life and helps them break out of their shell. They inspire me to try to do the same.
report Recommended by SAniyoukoso
The main character is a socially anxious boy with low self-esteem that meets another boy who sees the potential in him to do something great in their respective passion (fishing in Tsuritama and baseball in Ookiku Furikabutte), and throughout the series, the main character eventually comes out of his shell. Both of these sports/comedy/slice of life series are from A-1 Pictures, have occasional humor, portray empathetic and gentle male characters, and show how people thrive on and grow from social bonds such as close friendships.
report Recommended by SAniyoukoso
Both shows revolve around a Red haired boy who one day meets a boy from another part of the world (outer space (Tsuritama) / Canada (SK8)) while they teach each other a new sport while fighting their inner demons. While also taking place in a tropical Japan setting.
report Recommended by PastiRyokov
Fish. Just kidding. I mean, there is fish in both series, but there is also the similarity of a new person in the community being wrapped into its affairs.

When I was watching Taisou Zamurai as it aired, I couldn't shake off the fact that it reminded me of another show - or, well, more like a certain character reminded of another. And then I remembered. Leonardo and Haru from Tsuritama were extremely similar. A mysterious, hyper, and supportive character shows up and puts themselves in the lives of the main characters - Leonardo from Taisou Zamurai and Haru from Tsuritama.
report Recommended by Jellyf
I definitely recommend Tsuritama if you liked this anime! They both have unique premises and are both surprisingly interesting! Tsuritama also has beautiful visuals and is extremely refreshing! Tsuritama is about fishing, and much like Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei, sounds pretty boring at first but I definitely recommend giving it a shot. The interactions are also really fun to watch, just like this anime. It's heavily underrated so go watch it, it's only 12 episodes, so go on, I'll wait.

They share a theme of sports on the surface, while focusing rather on the drama aspect. Hoshiai no Sora deals with serious real life issues outside of the soft tennis club, whereas Tsuritama integrates a sci-fi adventure plotline. These original series are only 12 episodes each (so far??) and I highly recommend them to everyone!

atm only watched 1 episode of bocchi but both are shows with bright colours and are about a person with crippling social anxiety but genderswapped and also instead of fishing its being in a band and also are both really fun to watch.
report Recommended by Arrokoth
Both have an extremely outrageous sounding premise that sounds like it won't make sense, but it does. Both involve the supernatural and the power of friendship. Both have an extremely colourful art style/animation.
report Recommended by jessslyyyyy
Both are comedy slice of life shows with a main focus on fishing. Tsuritama is a bit wackier, but if you like fishing anime then you'll like both of these.

Both series deal with the everyday life of a human and an alien. Both have an Indian side character.

Both anime involve an aquatic supernatural being that changes a normal boy's life for better or for worse as they slowly befriend each other.

While Tsuritama doesn't root its focus on its particular sport, opting to go the slice-of-life route, both are shows about lovable guys who mature through their dedication to an active passion. The two also share a colorful art style and engaging character dynamics. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised nobody else has made this recommendation. Most of the people I've seen who like Tsuritama also like Haikyuu and there's a considerable amount of crossover fanart, considering how relatively unknown Tsuritama is.

They are both excellent coming of age slice of life. Ballroom has an MC who starts off not knowing how to do ballroom and Tsuritama has an MC who starts off not knowing how to fish. At certain instances, both have intense moments e.g. Ballroom during competitions and Tsuritama during fishing and especially towards the latter episodes. They are not exactly the same but the underlying theme surrounding these two animes are closely similar. Both are fun to watch and can be cute (depending on the type of person watching). Last but not least, THE COMEDY is BRILLIANT. *cough cough* Sengoku *cough* *cough* DUCK

Both are anime with themes of dealing with your inner turmoil. Main characters have different, but similar problems (one has social anxiety, the other has target panic) that are well-explored and of consequence to their respective stories. Both mains learn to rely on others and form a tight relationship and friendship with others through some kind of activity (archery and fishing). There's also a strong parallel in the personalities of both anime's main cast. Both anime are are very feel-good and are excellent in building up emotional highs.

An anime based around the concept of fishing. Mixed with comedy, friendship, adventure and slice of life.

Tsuritama and Sasami share a similar whimsical bond between the two. Both series involve aliens? and some type of natural disaster and have some very unique and weird characters to thicken the plot.

As tumblr would best say: if you like gay fishing and waterproof homos, these are the shows for you. But seriously. The art styles look like they waltzed out of an art school's senior thesis. And the story tells a tell of what it means to have a family no matter how small or how different (alien) you are.

- Both shows have a very special humor - "Sea" stuff (fishing in Tsuritama / Jellyfishes in Kuragehime) - Some dramatic scenes so heartwarming - Same colorful style While Tsuritama is like an everyday life of four friends with some sort of alien stuff in the middle, Kuragehime is more like a josei comedy concentrated in romance and wishes to fulfil. So, if you want to laugh (and sometimes cry) with an unique story full of colour I recommend both shows! And of course, if you already watched Kuragehime you'll love Tsuritama.

Both series have bright colors to their animation, but there is some deeper meaning as to what everyone fights for in their case. Interesting as it would be, there are aliens just roaming places like it's nothing.

In both anime main characters at the beginning don't have a goal in life, but by meeting someone they find it. Both anime have fishing in it, although Beck is about making a band, while Tsuritama focuses on the fishing itself.

Both have: - A group of friends that spend their days together. - An alien entity who possesses or is responsible for possessing people. - Both start slow and with comedic tone and later become emotional rollercoasters. - Tsuritama is more about friendship while KC is more about romance.

Natsume Yuujinchou isn't a water related anime but both are equally fun!!! Natsume (Natsume Yuujinchou) and Yuki (Tsuritama) are kinda similar in terms of how they have difficulty making friends. Natsume is worried about rejection while Yuki's isn't good with people. Both leard to open up and make friends. Both of the anime is about friendship, opening up and learn to find happiness in the littlest things. Both delivered a warm hearted feeling. MUST WATCH! eno-shima-BOWL!!!!!

Really nice and peaceful island life disrupted by an end-of-the-world plot. Both involve characters whom aren't exactly human coming in and learning how to live with humans. Both are heavily related to the sea, and both involve a conflict that come from the sea. Comparatively, Umi Monogatari's main cast is mostly female while Tsuritama's main cast is mostly male. Also, while Umi Monogatari is quiet and toned down, it involves more action. Tsuritama in comparison is more visually and comically exaggerated, and thus ends up being less dramatic overall. Both are still relatively calm stories by the sea, providing more slice-of-life comedy until the latter  read more

Directed by the same man, Gatchaman Crowds and Tsuritama look and sound very much alike. Although these series are not so similar in terms of genre, they share very similar happy and carefree atmosphere. The character designs are simple yet sweet and the color palettes are so wide that even rainbows fall second. Both series also have aliens relevant to the story.

Has a seaside vibe to it similar to Grand Blue. The comedy isn't the same type of crass humor but a bit more zany, quirky, or cute. It also, unlike Grand Blue, sort of has an actual story. The story isn't the greatest but it also makes for a show that isn't purely gag based as Grand Blue is.

The dance at the OP is similiar xD Especially the hand gestures dance One of the MC want to do things and he/she just asked other people (later become friends) to join them to do that White-haired MC the problem bringer xD Cute white-haired MC but full of problem Friendship, slowly but sure.. Building some trust There are so many hilarious things, but comedy is a minor thing Colorful animation, full of beautiful things

These are both about two completely inept individuals in the social world. When most humans talk to them they completely freeze and don't know what to do or say. It's the ability or the possibility of overcoming that complete social awkwardness.

Both series deal with friend ship. They also have a similar atmosphere and they both have an undeniable amount of humor. Plus these series are both shounen and deal with water. (little fishing in one piece and nothing about pirates in Tsuritama though.) I really recommend both!! They both are very unique in every which way!! :D

Both series are bright and colorful, with quirky characters. Tsuritama focuses on fishing while Meganebu! focuses on club devoted to glasses, but both have a similar feel. But while Tsuritama combines its whimsical humor with some character drama and a linear plot, Meganebu! is more of a slice-of-life with a few instances of over-the-top drama added purely for comedic effect.

Whilst their narratives could not be more different, what these two series share in common is their ability to immerse you into a living, breathing world that is full of genuine characters. If you enjoy one, you are likely to enjoy the other, as they are both similarly paced.

Both are about daily life (in a fishing village and in a mansion), but both have an underlying sinister theme (unknown monster lurking in the depths and demon butler).
