Similar summer time mood, similar humor, similar settings. An eccentric and not-quite-human character comes to live with an unsuspecting host family and causes them havoc, while also bringing about their own character growth. They each remind me of the other, and I imagine anyone who enjoys one will enjoy both.
Both are stories about sea life (a fish and squid) coming ashore and making themselves a part of a the beachside community although they are initially thought of as a pain. I suppose Haru is actually an alien who just transforms into a fish and has power connected to water, white SquidGirl vehemently protest that she is a squid when characters suggest she is an alien.
