On rare occasions earlier, but it's not always easy to get an answer

I see.
mdo7 Feb 1, 7:06 AM
but did you try talking to MAL mods about it? Because I'm not one

Well, have you ever talked to the mods or admins about database discrepancies? Because I never ever talked to one directly when it comes to that.

Hey heads up, the community moderator from Anilist has replied to me about the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past OEL manga, and it'll be no longer on the database. He also talked to me why Ryuko, and any of Eldo Yoshimizu's work don't qualify on the database. Although I understand the reason, the problem is that for Ryuko, that was self-published in Japan in 2010 before it got an official publication in France and Japan. The community mod brought up Leviathan (more information here) because this one was published in France first then later in Japan, where MAL and Anilist has put it into their database despite it started out as a dojin then become an official publication in France, then in Japan.

So the debate will continue if Eldo Yoshimizu's work should be classified as manga or not.

And this will surprised (or not surprised) you, but Anilist even classified that Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past OEL manga on their database too!!! So if that particular OEL manga can be on the database then all 3 of Eldo Yoshimizu's works should be in there too since it's classified as a manga!!!
mdo7 Jan 31, 11:05 AM
Probably not cuz it's Kodansha USA and not just Kodansha

We don't know but that's remain to be seen. But I want to see MAL and Anilist count it on their database, but here's another oddity that I just found out.

Do you know the 1992's Nintendo Power's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past done by Shotaro Ishinomori? Here's the thing that baffle me that MAL added to the database:

This came out on Nintendo Power in the USA before it got a Japanese release, the original language is English and not Japanese (it got translated into Japanese later). This has now been classified as OEL manga, and when the comic/OEL manga got translated into Japanese, they keep the reading orientation intact (it kept the left to right orientation as it was when it first got published in the USA on Nintendo Power). From Zelda Fandom's entry on this comic/OEL manga:

Although often considered to be a manga, the comic was originally published in English in America by Nintendo Power. By modern day standards, it can be considered to be an original English-language manga, although that term did not exist when the comic was originally published. A Japanese edition was later released retaining the left-to-right formatting of the original American edition. In the Japanese edition, the text is oriented horizontally in a left-to-right format as well and the original sound effects are left untranslated.

How did Ishinomori's Zelda: A Link to the Past OEL manga get accepted on MAL database, yet Eldo Yoshimizu's Ryoko, Gamma Draconis, and Hen Kai Pan don't count?

Hey St0rmblade, have a look what I saw on ANN: Kodansha USA Publishes Yoshinori Matsuoka's Re:Anima as English-First Manga

So I wonder if MAL & Anilist will add that manga to the database, or is it because it'll come out in English first and Japanese later it'll not count to the database.

Thanks. I've been wanting to read them but kinda keep delaying it cuz I have no convenient way of recording it in my list outside of keeping up some separate text file, so I focus on some other stuff for the time being.

Just a little FYI: Gamma Draconis is not on Hoopla, so you're going to have to find another to read it. Luckily for me, my local libraries have Gamma Draconis so I can read it and see/determine how much of it is really manga enough to be worthy on MAL and Anilist's database.

If you're somewhat familiar with the franchise, what the characters do etc., you should be fine.

Not that the prequel manga is even completely translated to English in the first place.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
