Dororo

Both MC hunt demon to become human again in Dororo it's for himself and in Kimetsu no Yaiba it's for her sister And both travel to find the demons 

Both main characters we follow as they grow into a cognitive character, and as they develop emotions and bonds. Also ties in with the supernatural, and the hardships of side characters met along the way. 

Looking for more angst-ridden protagonists that are out for revenge? Excellent, because these are two of the best. Both are about characters that have had something taken from them, and are out to get them back (Dororo) or get revenge (Both). Great action scenes, beautiful worlds, and enjoyable characters to follow. In both of these series, you often end up rooting for the side characters just as much if not more than the main characters. This is nothing against the main characters, but rather an applause of actual development of the supporting cast.  

The main characters spend a great deal of time travelling from place to place, dealing with the supernatural. In Dororo, "dealing with" means slaughtering, in Mushishi it means coming to an understanding, usually through experience and knowledge of the world. They both feature very distinct color design when it comes to the worlds themselves. While the actions and motivations of the main characters might be polar opposites, their intentional and focused attitude is very similar. Mushishi is much more focused on understanding the supernatural, Dororo is more focused on battling it (for spoiler reasons), but I can't help but compare the journeys in both. 

If you want an anime with Samurai and a good story, also a great theme song, this is a great one.  

They both are set in the same time period. They portray a very dark and violent view of this era and boost fantastic fights. The main characters of both series seem to have a similar dynamic with a more talkative 10 year old boy and a quieter badass. Both shows also involve one of the duo being sacrificed to a demon. In Sword of the Stanger, No Name is protecting the kid from being sacrificed, while in Dororo, Hyakkimaru has already been sacrificed.  

Same setting, similar high level story, similar themes of the dangers of ambition. Also about a voyage to collect things and a monster of the week structure. Katanagatari is not exactly "lighter" in tone but is less relentlessly dark. 

Series where the MC travels in search of his body parts that were lost in a forbidden ritual. Both have well-animated action fights featuring "supernatural" powers and have drama surrounding the idea of a family. Plus, both are new takes on stories that already had an anime adaptation before. 

They are both historical anime set in about the same time period with Japanese mythology as an underlying theme. Inuyasha and the gang are looking for shards of Shikon no Tama, while Hyakkimaru is looking for his missing bodyparts. This leads to an epic journey for both teams. 

These both feature a medieval Asian setting where the main character is paired with a younger male character. They both feature a lot of demons and spirits, and medieval combat. Moribito focuses on a strong female main character who is a Spearwoman, and Dororo focuses on a strong male character who uses swords. But they are very similar in that they are "Strong characters of few words" who are extremely competent in battle. You will very likely like one if you like the other. 

Both MCs are soul-searching and trying to regain something they've lost. For Violet, it's her purpose of living, while for Hyakkimaru, it was his body. Throughout their journeys, they encounter many people and challenges along the way and gradually develop as characters. Both shows overall are quite emotionally driven and focus on the individual burdens and emotions of humans. Both Violet and Hyakkimaru also have a very somber, saddening past that the story makes an effort to reconnect to. Both shows also have great animation quality and soundtracks to befit their respective premises. 

Dorohedoro and Dororo share a lot of similarities (including the half similar names! XD) Both shows have Violence, bloodbath Satisfying fight scenes Main character going on a quest to get their bodies/human form back Another supportive main character accompanying them Made by MAPPA While both shows have these common points, they are also very distinct from each other. So it's not like one is an altered version of the other. You'll surely love both of these shows if you're okay with heavy themes like explicit violence and death.,  

Similar premise of a swordsman who has to kill people/things to fix a checkered past. They are both accompanied by a younger person on their journey. Both series take place in Feudal Japan, with some aspect inspired by Japanese mythology with Immortal being more grounded. The two series are also fairly violent with many fight scenes. The main difference is in tone, where Dororo is overall more light-hearted while Immortal is a 100% seinen show. 

Noragami has similarities to Dororo in that they both feature main characters who are samurai-like who are killing demons (or spirits in the case of Noragami). They both have a main protagonist who is accompanied with a younger side-kick like character. The main difference between the two is the time periods (Noragami takes place in the modern era) and that the main protagonists have different personalities. Still, there are enough similarities that you would likely like the other if you like one. 

Badass main characters slaying monsters with side characters that keep growing as characters and become stronger.Guts and Hyakkimaru are both indifferent towards people but kind. They are also both inflicted by a curse. If you are a gamer, Dororo anime is basicaly like the Witcher. 

Both have: beautiful, gruesome fights Ancient Japanese setting A mystical element Similar art Op, stoic protag Depictions of the abuse of power 

Both anime involve a main character who fights with a sword and meets people along the way. Rurouni Kenshin has great fight scenes and includes comedy from time to time. The mc gives you a series but calm and kind vibe. The anime is about the mc being a swordsman who is trying to get away from his past and start a new life as a wonderer. Along the way he has encounters with people who want to fight him and he meets new friends. 

Asura and Dororo both have a feudal Japan setting and thus share similar themes that characterize that time period. Both are explicit and dark in content, but Asura is without a doubt even less forgiving than Dororo is. Beginning with the cinematography of Asura, you can immediately tell it will be a difficult story to watch whereas Dororo has a more familiar shounen feel in its animation and design. If you think Dororo was already too dark, then I wouldn't recommend Asura as the story content is violent and grim. However, if you liked Dororo and want to take your watching experience to another level, definitely watch Asura. read more 

One is form China, and the other from Japan, and yet they have quite a few similarities. Both have extraordinary animation and nice plot, occur in a middle-age & mythologic time and slowly slide towards a rather dark atmosphere. Mo Dao Zu Shi is a bit complicated at first, but is a master piece for me (with outstanding music too). Anyway if you enjoyed watching one of the two, you will likely enjoy the other ! 

Just 2 bros going on an epic journey across the world. 

Both stories take place in ancient Japan and, in both stories, one of the main character's body is cursed since his birth. 

Underdog story about a sacrificed son, in a time with feudal level of society, including royalty or lords  

Both anime deal with moral dilemmas. This lets us, the audience, think about the actions and decisions of the main characters and if what they are doing is right or wrong. In Death note, the main character has a notebook of death which he uses to rid the world of criminals. It makes us think whether the main character is in the right or wrong. Whilst his actions would create a safer society for the innocent, criminals are being killed. Is it really OK for those in the wrong to be killed? In Dororo, this moral dilemma is done in a similar fashion. Our main character, Hyakkimaru, had most of his body took from him by demons when he was born. He grows up thanks to prosthetic limbs, and uses his swords for arms to kill the demons which took his body, and for every demon he kills, he gets a part of his body back. The moral dilemma in this situation is that though Hyakkimaru might be becoming more human on the outside when he gets his body parts back, he might become less human on the inside and more of a killing machine. The audience might debate whether his actions are right or not.  read more 

Both casshern and hyakkimaru find killing and destroying as their only reason for living but they soon gain the heart to love someone after meeting a small child(ringo and dororo). So if u love animez where an innocent smile can change a heartless MC, u'll probably like these two. 

Both are set in a hysterical background  

Both plots revolve around an amputee main character trying to get his body back. Both anime have a lot of action and fight scenes. Both main characters use their prosthetics as weapons. Both main characters have a younger "sidekick" whom they travel with. Both anime involve a lot of traveling with mini arcs centered around the places they visit. Both anime deal with morals and politics. Both main characters have complicated relationships with their estranged fathers. 

1. Similar heroes, even in appearance. This is a child and a guy in bandages. 2. Similar relationships between heroes. One is trying to understand who he is. The second learns that he needs the first. 3. Gloomy atmosphere. In Dororo, this is due to demons. 

There's not much in common regarding the plot, as the story of Dororo revolves around a fantastical elements of Japanese folklore and Saraiya Goyou consists of nothing of the sort. The similarities lie within the timeline where both seem to be set in Feudal/ Edo period, and the sombre undertones, depicted in both works. Saraiya Goyou about a Samurai who becomes part of the 5 Leaves, a group of thieves. Though it is uncertain if Dororo will continue at the same pace as the future episodes air, both series generally have a slow-and-steady type of pacing. 

Afro Samurai has same focus as Dororo. Obviously it's samurais. >w< While Afro is more dark sided, not like Dororo isn't, in sense that Afro has no demons and evil spirits it's more focused on reality that Dororo. UwU 

Both anime have an older character lacking human emotions growing closer to a child and acquiring emotions. Cute children present Conflict of demon/bestial vs human nature Humans portrayed in a grey tone - both bad and good present Will make you cry at least twice  

Main character has a smaller kid following him around. In Dororo: Hyakkimaru is always being companied by Dororo. In Barakamon: Sei is always being followed by Naru. True, Barakamon is not action, but the main characters with younger "siblings" around kinda give off the same vibe. 

Sword fights against monsters, supernatural aspects, samurai in a historical context.  

Main character is a bit of an oddball, quiet and under the impression that he's been abandoned for being a terrify being. In fact, he learns a lot about himself as well as how to interact with others. Protect at all costs. Both series are great. Music is great. 

Both protagonists are young men with a demonic curse. They travel the land in order to redeem themselves, as well as seeking answers. Combat with Demons, Animal Gods and Spirits in a similar time period and setting. Unusual friendships and bonds. Notions of war and famine.  

Both have similar genres (action, adventure, demons, supernatural, historical and samurai) and the same dark atmosphere with a pinch of comedy. 

- Both deal with youkai/demons/monster/spirits - Both shows focus heavily on a familial bond between of an unlikely pair, growing friendship that start off apart, but slowly grow closer and stronger over the course of the show - Both shows are based heavily in Japanese folklore - Both shows hold similar themes of overcoming/accepting ones painful past in order to move forward in life. - Both have seemingly unconnected singular episodes, but each episode plays a part in building the overall story and play into each character learning and growing.  

Both shows depict revenge stories about samurai and political drama. 

Both are stories written with a measured and meticulous style with very different sensibilities from what modern shows embody. Stated more succinctly, both are classics. Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu is more grandiose, elaborate and winding, mostly avoiding storytelling by direct confrontation and rather focusing on building the character, the setting, motivations and conflict from afar. Although Dororo has a similarly elaborate moral backdrop, it employs a much more straightforward, confrontational storytelling style (with a lot of supporting action) that may make it more palatable for viewers that enjoyed the conceptual landscape of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu but could not stomach it's sedentary storytelling style. They come packaged very differently but both of these shows are gems of the classic era of manga. read more 

Both are set in a similar setting in historical Japan with similar backgrounds and emotional scenes. 

Fantasy series with action taking place in historical Japan ( in Dororo it is Sengoku period, in Donten ni Warau it is Meiji period). In both animes main characters come from samurai families. Supernatural elements are based on shinto and japanese folklore. But Dororo is much darker and more action focused. Donten ni Warau is softer and focused on family and relationships between characters. 

The plot is not similar at all. But the feel is pretty similar, mainly the fight scenes, how his body is made up of katanas/swords, and just overall dark theme throughout the show. The MC is pretty bland and not relatable, but fights insanely well, the supporting characters make up for the MCs lack of personality. I really loved dororo, and didn't find B:tb until about a year later. But it gives me BIG dororo vibes for sure. If you like one, im pretty sure you will enjoy the other.

and of course there is this one too if you like darker shows, this i'd more recommend to people who enjoy the yona manga, but hey this is just for anyone who enjoys anime, great animation, great characters, good music, and a really good story, go watch this one out of all these. have fun! :) 

Both are dark fantasy themed Both have demons in them as the basis for its stories Both are actually set in olden days Both brings in the moral compass of humanity into question (discreetly) while using the demons as its premise While Mononoke is a collection of 3 separate stories with no overarching plot, Dororo starts of with an episodic story-telling featuring a different demon each episode, then develops into a shounen drama. If you are interested in the demons and folklores, then give the other a try.  

The character development in both animes is great and resembles with demons being a common pillar of interest. Regardless both are a must watch and great for quarantine binging. 

Both shows have a simple and "oldish" artstyle, both protagonist of the shows are young girls that were raised as boys, their family was killed, and are searching how to survive daily, both stories are settled in Japan in an ancient era, where the "kingdom" is dealing with different problems that could lead their leaders and their people to doom 

Both series have a dark undertone to them. In both of them, the protagonist is looking for something that is very important for them and play a big part in the overall plot. In both, we follow these youngster as they grow; through the path they have chosen. 

Despite being separated by hundreds of years both series are set in the unforgving words full of violece. Hectoliters of boold are shead and dissmembered body parts fly left and right. And in both cases the violence does not exist just for the shock factor but is an istrument of world building and catalize development of the heros. Main characters are like mirrors immagies of each other. David starts the story as fully flaged human but with the passing time he replaces them with augmentations Hyakimaru starts his journey as a corps without his senses and limbs which has been replaced with prostesis. When David is loosing himself during his journey Hyakimaru is lerning what it means to be a human. And last but not least opening song are very simmilar thematicly in case of Edgerunners it's This Fffire by Franz Ferdinand in case of Dorroro it's "Kaen"(Fire) by Ziyoou-vachi. read more 

Both are dark animes that focus on the main character's journey for revenge. Both have medieval/fantasy elements as well, with Dororo taking place in Japan and Berserk taking place in Europe. The biggest difference between the two is probably the art style; Berserk has a more detailed and realistic art style, while Dororo's art style is simpler but still very effective nonetheless. 

Another ninja show where the MC needs to fight for everything he has. 

Samurai. Samurai who find themselves with everything lost, nothing to call their own, go on a trek with none other than a younger one accompanying them. Yasuke and Dororo tell a grand long journey of what the two pairs face along their way to the ultimate goal they have. Yasuke does this with a real historical figure with the same name, going to help Saki with the strange powers she has. Dororo does this with Hyakkimaru taking back the body he has lost in a Faustian bargain. Both anime also have the two warriors flashback on their life from time. Though I am not everyone, Yasuke isn't exactly a community favourite but it is there if you want to try it. Compared to a more elegant Dororo everyone seems to love. The 12 Kingdoms (Juuni Kokuki) and Dororo are similar in that they both feature main characters who end up having to fight demons in a medieval Asian setting. They also both feature tensions between between members of the noble class, and a largely agrarian setting. 

The plot is full of action and the characters' motives are truly complex. 

Okay, we know it is fated to recommend naruto to Japanese feudal anime. But the recommendation goes through the soundtrack extremely similar, and also for having an ambiance and a certain "aura" similar to Naruto. 

Ninja Scroll and Dororo are very similar. They both take place in the Samurai Era and feature demons and feature a protagonist who spends much of his time killing demons. If you like one, you will very likely like the other. 

Dororo is like Blood-C with a brain. They're both about badass warriors slaying monsters and are great for action but Blood-C's characters are terrible and the plot is pathetic. Dororo on the other hand has all that great action with some fantastic visuals, characters, and a great plot. If you liked Blood-C for the bloody monster fights but hated everything else then Dororo will more than satisfy. 

Outrageous violence with enough character and heart to really make it hurt 

Both feature main protagonists who are fighting demons, in a very traditional Japanese setting. Both also feature a lot of references to Buddhism which is interesting. You may like both if you like one or the other.  

Mind you, I'm on the fourth episode of Dororo while writing this. Although the OVAs of Rurouni are set right before the beginning of the Meiji era (mid 19th century) and Dororo during the Muromachi era (mid 14th to late 16th century), both are grim Jidai Geki that treat war as absolutely loathsome, showing how it scars (metaphorically AND literally) people and how violence and tragedy just breeds even more violence and tragedy.  

Dark fantasy show with historical setting and supernatural elements, hero fights against demons and monsters to regain what was taken from him. 

Tomoya Aki and Hyakkimaru--two teenage boys who will stop at nothing to seek what will make them complete. Tomoya's adventure has a more metaphorical take on the idea, creating videogames to satisfy his eroge-induced wanderlust. Hyakkimaru's tale is a bit more literal; he collects his body parts in order to make himself whole. The dynamics between Megumi and Tomoya and between Hyakkimaru and Dororo also reflect each other very nicely. Megumi and Hyakkimaru are the stoic ones who have some torque backing them up when they get emotional--they have a difficult time expressing what they want to, but their companions, Tomoya and Dororo - the character - respectively, understand them rather well. These duos have personalities that effortlessly bounce off of each other too, creating some well-timed comedic moments that can relieve some of the tension off of your shoulders. In contrast to Tomoya though, Hyakkimaru destroys rather than creates. He faces larger-than-life demons, and each of these beasts represents a larger philosophical question that he faces: should a person need a complete body to be truly complete?. Tomoya is similar in that sense, as his efforts to make a popular game in the comiket represent a different kind of incompleteness: a lack of purpose, and so the question becomes: does a person need to believe in something greater to be complete? Both of these shows ask important questions in humanity's pursuit for meaning. While Dororo - the Anime - ponders themes such as humanity, disability, and what makes a man, Saekano ponders similar themes such as sacrifice, meaning, and the creation of art. Hyakkimaru and Tomoya are used to explore these themes similarly, as both of them find a goal to chase, and almost lose everything in pursuit of that goal. Tomoya angers his friends, wastes his energy, and spends sleepless nights coding his eroge, while Hyakkimaru throws his own humanity into question and hurts many of the people around him. read more

A long, long journey. Dororo and Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms both follow protagonists, who are almost non-human like, lose absolutely everything. Amidst trying to seek a normal life, they both stumble upon another individual, making a growing relationship along this journey they share. Dororo meeting Hyakkimaru and their quest to get Hyakkimaru's body back, Promised Flower having Maquia raise Ariel. Both are good anime with Dororo being for those who wish for historical and action anime. Promised Flower for those who would like a drama regarding family. 

Both are sombre stories set in feudalistic Japan that will leave you emptier with every episode. This is definitely one for the tissues. Not for that reason you pervs! 

Both series are set in warring periods of Japan and focus on the complexities of family, tradition, honor, and responsibility of leaders. The lead is at a disadvantage due to others under-estimating their resolve/goals. Dororo does involve more fantasy/horror elements, but if that doesn't bother you, it is a good follow up to this series. 

Action-packed anime that heavily involve samurai & uphold the values of their respective eras. Dororo is much like a segregated serious arc of Gintama's; while the stories are incredibly different, the way they are told brush at air's width. Expect ruthless bloodbaths & gore in unison with intense action that will urge your heart to race along with the blood spilled in those scenes. 

Both they anime series is about Dark Fantasy with a special bonding between the protagonist . Not only this both has a horrific Character Designing and a Horrific Visual Effect
