There are unexplained phenomenons, transfer students, shrine maidens and things that may not be all what they claim to be. In both anime story is about group of friends, who live in mysterious small town, which have a dark past. 

“Everything seems so peaceful on the surface, while beneath something eerie is hiding.” [Masayuki] Group of kids (each of them with several issues and traumas in their past) lives in a quiet, small, remote Japanese village surrounded by nature which actually hides some scary secrets. They are psychological, creepy, dark, mysterious, supernatural, and addicting to the max, and will screw with your brain (and you'll love it). Also, in both anime we have: a dam, a school, at least one transferred student, a young, cute, purple-eyed miko, and a scary, ugly, hateful grandmother. Ghost Hound lacks gore and comedy, and is slower than Higurashi, while the latter has only one male protagonist with many girls, while in Ghost Hound it’s the opposite. read more 

A seemingly normal town with deep-rooted dark secrets that are related somehow to a dam, girls in shrine maiden outfits, students with crazy mental-illnesses, and sometimes disturbing imagery. All of these are things these shows have in common. 

Same feeling, same dark atmosphere. Both anime involves certain religion, contruction Dam, and bunch of kids in isolated town 

Same mystery in a small country village setting. 

Group of students with a dark past in a remote village which hide some dark secrets. Very psychological and mysterious with supernatural elements. 

Same type of isolated village mystery and atmospheric horror.  

A small town, a mysterious event in the past, a girl with spiritual connections, a powerful family with an old and powerful matriarch, a dam, a reporter, and a sexy woman. I could go on with small, minor things that make Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Shinreigari: Ghost Hound similar, but every second you waste reading this is a second not enjoying these great horror series! 

Mysterious and compelling thrillers defined by their atmospheric settings - remote, isolated country villages with a knack for outbreaks of the supernatural variety (perhaps not the best real estate pitch!). Both series also offer a great character study, fantastically eerie background music, and a pretty interesting take on human nature. Shiki is probably the darker, more focused of the two, while Ghost Hound tends to have more slice of life. 

The animes have a similar atmosphere. The setting is almost the same and they both tell a catching supernatural story, though they aren't really full of action but more easy going. Sunako and Miyako seem a bit similar, too. 

If you like mysterious towns with supernatural happenings, these are two of the best. They both slowly unravel the story and nature of these supernatural cases, gradually letting their characters understand what's going on. In Shiki, the viewer is fully aware of everything by the halfway point, whereas in Shinreigari it's much more of a slow burn. While I have massive issues with the actual ending of Shinreigari, the mood is undoubtedly similar to Shiki. They are slow but intentional, with great suspenseful moments and lots to say.  

These supernatural thrillers have similar plots in-which the regular world and a supernatural world begin to overlap. Each anime also has a similar atmosphere; a somewhat creepy but more mysterious feel. The audio and visuals of both are also of topnotch quality. If you enjoyed the feel of one then you will enjoy the feel of the other. 

The whole time I was watching Shiki I couldn't help but think of ghost hound. While they are not similar plot wise, they both have very similar settings, ghost hound also contains mystery and some horror. If you are looking for an anime similar to shiki atmosphere wise then ghost hound is a must watch. 

Very similar atmosphere and setting. Both are effectively horror/mystery/thrillers, however Shiki is more successful at creating a cohesive story. Ghost Hound has a very strong start in regard to horror/mystery elements, perhaps stronger than Shiki, but it fails to follow through during the second half as the story shifts in tone (however, it's still well worth watching, so don't let that information stop you from checking it out).  

Despite the plots not being very similar, the whole vibe of both anime are very similar. -A mystery anime with subtle and pleasantly paced horror along with a strong psychological element and dramatic climax- This sentence can describe both anime, of course, if you are not one willing to watch a slow building anime and go straight to the action, I would say you wouldn't be a fan of these. But if you enjoy a slow build to the extravagant end, these anime are perfect for you.  

Both have similar levels of creepiness and mystery. I think if you like one, you will like the other. 

Two words: mind trip. The similarities are countless. Both series are slow-paced, psychological, complex, dark, surreal, weird, and mysterious. Both deal with the supernatural, the human mind, technology (in Lain) and science/medicine (in GH), and various personality disorders and issues. They share a concept of alternate reality, extra-corporeal experiences, what's real and what's not: even if not anyone can see it, there’s another world apart from the one we live in (in Lain, the real world & the Wired, in GH, the Apparent World & the Unseen World). In both Lain & GH there’s some kind of game (used respectively by Lain & Masayuki) which allows to enter another world. The protagonists are kids with family issues; Miyako & Lain are both extremely quiet, cute, and basically emotionless; there are several scenes where the characters seem to stare directly at you with their big, deep eyes; both anime, despite their lack of blood and gore, have disturbing imagery and can be very creepy at times; the type of sounds and music and the way it’s used is almost the same; both anime have amazing OP themes. They also have the same director (Ryutaro Nakamura), scriptwriter (Chiaki Konaka), a moe character design, and overall the same atmosphere and mood. read more 

These series both have the same director, but there are also some other similar aspects. They both deal with psychological problems and have very interesting plots that make you think while watching each episode. SEL deals more with technology than GH does, though. 

Ghost Hound <=> Serial Experiments Lain Both shows center in a concept and work in its issues, deepening and applying it in real life (or mostly). Both are slow paced, thought provoking, psycho and worth a character study. Just don't lose your patience to them. 

The atmosphere and overall execution are near identical and very hard to find in other titles. The distinction between reality and dream is not always clear. If you liked the presentation of Lain, but the story was too incoherent or too wrapped in symbolism and metaphors, Ghost Hound is a perfect recommendation. 

Is the world we live in Real? Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost Hound are two anime that trying to explore reality, the "real" world and an alternate world; a world of matter and a world of form; through exploring the psychology of characters. Both anime have a very similar feel to them not only based on the themes they try to explore, but also they share the same character design, slow progression of plot and similar feel of seriousness. Even though both deal with existential theme, there's a contrast between their approaches. GH focuses more on the human brain and relating them to supernatural element, traditional beliefs and scientific knowledge. While SEL focuses on computer-based of world, Wired. read more 

Shinregari: Ghost Hound and Serial Expiriments Lain have little similar in terms of story, but they share a similar psychological overtone. Throughout both series, the work of notable pyschologists are explored. Serial Expiriments Lain certainly relies on the pychological aspect more than Shinreigari, but you can clearly see similar influences in each show. 

An expansion on the pet themes of SEL regarding neurology, consciousness, body horror, and relativity of human perception of reality.  

To me, these two series are quite alike. Both Shinsekai Yori and Ghost Hound adopts the theme of science fiction, supernatural mystery, and also gives off a mysterious atmosphere that occasionally leaves the viewers with thriller like endings. Both series' setting reflects on a more country side/village environment as opposed to a dystopian setting. As such, there is more of a mystical background. From that backgrounds, the main characters from both series also has a similar age range. Both series features supernatural events that also features that are unimaginable. 

The atmosphere in both series focuses on the resolution of a mystery which spins off into a supernatural thread. Ghost Hound taps into more transcendental elements while Shinsekai offers biological and possible scientific (I.e. Sci-Fi) insights for certain aspects of the plot. 

Ghost Hound and Shinsekai Yori have similar slow paces, a focus on characterization, and play with the effects of sound within a psychologically-charged supernatural atmosphere. 

In my opinion these two series are quite similar. Not only have they almost the same art style but also have similar plots. Both are quite hard to understand and are extremely centered on philosophical conception of the world. Supernatural events occur in both series. They are more focused on character development than plot. 

The main reason that connects these anime is obviously it's genre 'mystery'. Well it's commonly known that there are anime with sometimes very misplaced genre but you may be able to trust someone like me who's very much into anime with a chilling atmosphere in a mature sense. Meaning if you like interpreting and the attempt of figuring out what's gonna happen next or how every aspect of the anime connects together then you'll certainly be able to enjoy either of these anime.  

I don't remember much about Shinreigari, but both Shinsekai Yori and Shinreigari have a very similar slow pace in their atmospheres, and these two anime are kind of strange - I remember I had a very strange experience watching Shinreigari. 

It may not be like it, but it's very much like it in how it involves spirits and how it has a deep mystery. I'm not really sure that I should be reccomending this anime, but it's also very intellectual for one part. ^^ It's more of detective show, like Detecitve Conan. Non of the less, I still reccomend it and hope that you find it very similiar to Ghost Hound. =3

The story is different but it has the supernatural genre, if you like it then check this one out too. PS: 1ep of ghost hound does not make much sense so make sure u 2nd one too which gives more story.

Both paranatural "horror" though Ghost Hound is much creepier.  

I think I saw Ghost Hound before Ghost hunt.... Well whatever. Even though the plot is farely different in both of them, the atmosphere and the subject is really similar. You just finished either Ghost Hound or Ghost Hunt and want more ? Well then !! Give it a try, I think you wont regret it if you enjoyed one of these anime ! :) 

Both have a whole mystery curse theme. Leaves you coming up with different theories on what's going to happen. They're both creepy and chilling. Very good series. :) 

Both take place in a small mountain town with a middle school boy being part of a mystery and involved with death. - a similar eery atmosphere - psychological horror genre - a dark mystery in need of uncovering - a similar look, use of music and mood 

Supernatural phenomenon or ghost stories have been one of our greatest interest. Both anime offers that element, wrapped with a solid story which will makes us wonder, what would happen next and you will push the next button continuously. The mystery element is also intriguing and plays an important role in developing both stories.

Investigations of the human psyche. Deal with the overlap between the world of the human, and the world of the supernormal, and the creatures within it. Have a quiet, yet pensive tone, with occasional horror, and take place in the countryside. Feel a little unusual, even experimental. Similar music. Mushi-shi is episodic, while Ghost Hound follows the same set of characters throughout. 

Same mystery/fantasy theme while being totally completely different. Lots of small details making them both slower animes 

Both are slow-paced series with a very similar animation style which do a very good job of mixing science, natural phenomenon, and spirituality. 

two very slow-paced stories exploring psychological and supernatural phenomena, with interesting sound design that contributes to the mysterious atmosphere greatly. 

Same atmosphere and mysterious "unseen worlds" like parallel dimensions. In Dennou Coil it's virtual reality, home of cyberpets while in Ghost Hound it's the home of ghosts. There are kids in both series who try to discover these worlds.  

Involves kids living a second, overlayed "meta" reality without the full awareness of their parents, or participation of adults. Ultimately, their activities relate to something going very wrong and spilling over into the real world.  

In both animes the unknown beings are similar. The characters are both a young group of kids who are curious and get into lots of trouble and somehow they discover something beyond their knowing.  

In both series, there is a gap between fantasy and reality that is explored. Both series make a connection with its character cast (similar age range) and takes a setting in a somewhat utopia like world. From that world, there is supernatural and mysteries that surrounds the events presented throughout both series. Both series features layers and layers of mystery, some which are unique and becomes a source of plot device in both series. Quite a rare gem worth checking out. 

Both: - Dealing with life after death - Quite complicated with a ambiguous story - The mystery is omnipresent - The music has a very important place (OST are just beautiful) - The graphics are quite the same even if it's better and Darker for Jigoku S. Differences: - Both deal with every day life but in different ways: GH main characters are ordinary people (in a way) while JS’s are fantastic creatures - At the beginning JS’s episodes aren’t linked whereas GH have a story from the start. - The life after death is different and JS is more violent - GH deals with psychic problems and medicine. JH does it too, in a round about way because it illustrates many of human problems but we are not said directory that there’s a problem. In fact there is a psychologist in GH.  read more 

Because they were both scary.. 

They are horror,supernatural,drama and mystery. Miyako reminds me like Ai, Black haired and serious girls and the design of both animes are similiar. 

Mysterious kidnappings in the past are what drives the plot of both anime. They also each have heavy supernatural and psychological elements. They differ in that Boku dake ga Inai Machi is more of a thriller with a sense of urgency whereas Ghost Hound is slow-paced with an unsettling horror atmosphere. 

Both shows start with really intense psychological traumas of the main characters and develops the plot around that. You also have a common boy who builds up a lot of courage and a distant and quiet girl hard to open up. The supernatural plays a bigger part in Ghost Hound while Erased is more about thriller itself. 

They both have psychological and mysterious premise. They both start out with a sad murder/kidnapping with many questions and much unknown. As they both progress they solve their issues with peculiar supernatural abilities. This is a great anime overall for those who enjoy said genre. 

Similar theme- Mysterious and psychological phenomenons Both Anime involves spirits/vessels and other worldly things  

In both series, there's a mystery like feeling as the viewers are left with little clues on what is going on especially related to the characters and events. The setting of the series also gives off a similar vibe along with the characters themselves. There seems to be some supernatural elements related to the events going on in their respective series and mysteries to be unlocked. 

Very similar creepy atmosphere and sirious history theme background. Boogiepop darker than Hound, more chaotic and mystical. 

Dimly remembered nightmares, eerie occurrences, and a sense of something sinister happening that you're never quite let in on; though Ghost Hound is still airing, it looks as if it's got ample-enough mind candy to keep you thinking until the very end, as well as a few chills to keep you occupied - just like Boogiepop Phantom. 

They both have a psychological aspect to them. They both deal with the afterworld/another world and getting more in touch with it. This leads to the similar supernatural theme, giving them a similar atmosphere too. 

Both of them are about some kind of lucid dreams 

Both shows explore the concept of multidimensional realities, weaving in references to quantum mechanics while also incorporating psychological aspects within their narratives. 

The main characters Tarou (Ghost Hound) and Takashi (Natsume Yuujinchou) are alike. While Ghost Hound is darker and more psychological, Natsume Yuujinchou is a bit lighter and has a slice of life feeling. Still they both have supernatural elements. 

Mystery, small town, kids, slow paced story, etc... 

Both Occultic;Nine and Ghost Hound delve heavily into the supernatural and what hides from the visible world. They both have a disturbing atmosphere and an off-putting artstyle.  

Although Ghost Hound is solely Supernatural based, and Real Drive is SciFi, both involve having a split self in another form, with Ghost Hound involving spirits, and Real Drive having ones consciousness inside a system known as the Metal. While I admit to not liking either, I disliked both for the same reason, so I assume the reverse would hold true too.
