So do you have any plans on what you are going to do, now that your finished with school?
Think I might just wait for something new to come out that really looks interesting, if I pick up another mmo. But mmo's really suck up a lot of time lol. Think I easily have 1,000+ on bns before I stopped playing and probably a good few thousand in the original guild wars.
Is there any upcoming mmos that have caught your interest atm?
I also just picked up one of the newer fire emblems though and I'm really enjoying it so far.
I would love an honest attempt at Cosmic horror movies. I know Guillermo Del Toro wanted to to direct ATMoM but I don't think he'd be a good choice. His movies have some great visuals, but like most Hollywood movies they're childish and inane. He would likely go for the corny pseudo-parody portrayal of Cosmic Horror that most directors have done (which is why those movies sucked). Someone like Ridley Scott or the late Tarkovsky might have done a good job, hell Alien and Prometheus have some cosmic horror influences. Tarkovsky would be good because Russian science fiction has some of those elements, namely the futility of humans in conquering nature.
I've seen a few of Kubrick's movies and I liked what I saw. He definitely had some interesting beliefs and I like the way he portrayed them in his films. David Lynch is an example of a director that has great visuals, atmosphere and sound design but don't bother trying to analyze it and figure out what it all means. I'm not sure even David Lynch knows, he just directs whatever pops up in his dreams lol (this was definitely the case with Eraserhead). Twin Peaks is awesome, I'd say his Magnum opus. Starts out like a traditional murder mystery and turns into a supernatural conspiracy thriller, but it is so much more. It had an abrupt end during the second season and there was supposed to be a movie trilogy to finish the story, but it was cancelled after the first movie didn't do well. Thankfully they just announced a third season to come out in 2016.
I do play some games, mostly tactical shooters, horde FPS, shmups, action games, beatemups and metroidvanias. Right now I'm playing Undying and Dragon's Crown. Undying is written by Clive Barker or something, it's pretty dated but neat. I really want to play Evil Within but I always wait for steam sales. I've played LoK but the play mechanics didn't do much for me. I know about the Hellblazer series, but I prefer my occult more like Teito Monogatari.
I do prefer old horror literature, stuff like Poe and whatnot. Cosmic horror doesn't work in movies well, to the extent that I would say it's impossible to bring to the big screen effectively. Some crappy little amateur movies have been made with all of them being laughable, and hollywood wouldn't touch that sort of material with a ten foot pole unless they warped it into a mockery of itself. Event Horizon was sort of neat, reminded me of the original Hellraiser which was also decent. It's been a while but I enjoyed Dark City too. Cosmic and gothic horror are somewhat closely related since cosmic horror came right at the tail end of gothic horror, with some crossover (some would say Poe's works could have had the beginnings of cosmic horror)
I don't really care for movies in general. There's a few directors I like (need to go though Stanley Kubrick's movies one day) but for the most part I don't watch them. Same for TV, but that's even worse. You might like David Lynch's works if you haven't seen them. Twin Peaks is my favorite TV series and it has some elements of surreal horror/mindfuck.
I haven't ordered it yet.. waiting to see if they're going to release more. I prefer to binge read 3 or more volumes at once over doing a single volume or chapter at a time.
As for horror movies, my feelings towards them are conflicted. Quite possibly my favorite movie I've seen so far is the original Alien, but I liked it primarily for the otherworldy aesthetics that HR Giger brought to life. I liked the first Silent Hill move for the same reason (although that wasn't anywhere near the level of Alien). Aside from those I haven't seen any other horror movies I enjoy. I like Cosmic and Gothic horror, but neither of those genres have decent movies that I've seen. I the kind of person that prefers terror to horror, but that is pretty much lost in today's movies. What do you think of them?
I haven't even started on this one. I also like how they preview some music right on the artist page so I can hear if it's something I like right away (though sometimes they don't have the best examples, which might have put me off artists I would have otherwise liked) Feel free to add me btw
