Yea, finished in May, but I'll officially have a copy of my degree in August. Honestly no idea what or if I'll do anything with it, and currently looking to move up a little in my current job. Might as well try and make a little more while I fumble around blindly lol. Are you thinking you want to stay in Canada or possible move somewhere further south thats warmer?
Karnrage Jul 17, 2018 1:09 PM
Yea, i hardly play games anymore and I watch a lot less anime now. I've only recently started playing my 3ds again, before zelda I hadn't played any games really for at least 3 or so months.

So do you have any plans on what you are going to do, now that your finished with school?
Karnrage Jul 12, 2018 10:28 PM
I've actually played both gw2 and warframe (early warframe though, before all the recent updates). GW2 was fun for awhile, but I stopped around when i beat the original story and before the released any expansions. Couldn't get into the end game really other than WvW.

Think I might just wait for something new to come out that really looks interesting, if I pick up another mmo. But mmo's really suck up a lot of time lol. Think I easily have 1,000+ on bns before I stopped playing and probably a good few thousand in the original guild wars.

Is there any upcoming mmos that have caught your interest atm?

I also just picked up one of the newer fire emblems though and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Karnrage Jul 6, 2018 11:14 PM
I was playing blade and soul a little while ago, but dropped it when it got to heavy into the pay to win. Kind of sucked all the fun out of it. Not sure if I'll pick up another one anytime soon. Are you playing one atm?
Karnrage Jul 4, 2018 9:32 PM
Yea, not a big fan of the mouse and keyboard for fps, and a controller in a pvp fps would be to much of a disadvantage. I'm thinking of picking up a new game, probably for the 3ds now that im done with zelda. Not sure what game atm, maybe fire emblem, professor layton, or something else.
Karnrage Jul 1, 2018 9:32 AM
Nothing to new, I just finished zelda:link between worlds and play overwatch on the ps4 atm. Are you playing anything?
Karnrage Jun 24, 2018 10:35 AM
Not much, just work really. What about you, how have you been?
kawanushi Jul 13, 2017 10:59 AM
Haha, thank you very much, I'm glad you acknowledged it. I hope you have a great week as well~!

I think scanlations exist in a bit of a gray area but it's reasonable because there's no other way to read things in other languages without them. I remember MPD used to be fairly popular when it first came out, if just for the shock factor alone. Of course there was more than that, but then it got put on hiatus and now it's obscure again. If it doesn't sell well, then Dark Horse only has themselves to blame. I'd like to learn Japanese but no one around here teaches it. Aside from manga there's also some good visual novels (and regular ones) I'd like to read, but aren't likely to come out in English any time soon.

I would love an honest attempt at Cosmic horror movies. I know Guillermo Del Toro wanted to to direct ATMoM but I don't think he'd be a good choice. His movies have some great visuals, but like most Hollywood movies they're childish and inane. He would likely go for the corny pseudo-parody portrayal of Cosmic Horror that most directors have done (which is why those movies sucked). Someone like Ridley Scott or the late Tarkovsky might have done a good job, hell Alien and Prometheus have some cosmic horror influences. Tarkovsky would be good because Russian science fiction has some of those elements, namely the futility of humans in conquering nature.

I've seen a few of Kubrick's movies and I liked what I saw. He definitely had some interesting beliefs and I like the way he portrayed them in his films. David Lynch is an example of a director that has great visuals, atmosphere and sound design but don't bother trying to analyze it and figure out what it all means. I'm not sure even David Lynch knows, he just directs whatever pops up in his dreams lol (this was definitely the case with Eraserhead). Twin Peaks is awesome, I'd say his Magnum opus. Starts out like a traditional murder mystery and turns into a supernatural conspiracy thriller, but it is so much more. It had an abrupt end during the second season and there was supposed to be a movie trilogy to finish the story, but it was cancelled after the first movie didn't do well. Thankfully they just announced a third season to come out in 2016.

I do play some games, mostly tactical shooters, horde FPS, shmups, action games, beatemups and metroidvanias. Right now I'm playing Undying and Dragon's Crown. Undying is written by Clive Barker or something, it's pretty dated but neat. I really want to play Evil Within but I always wait for steam sales. I've played LoK but the play mechanics didn't do much for me. I know about the Hellblazer series, but I prefer my occult more like Teito Monogatari.

I'm sure someone is capable of translating, but the fact that its licensed puts almost all of them off. Licensing tends to put most things off the table because people figure they're going to be translated officially so why bother? Unfortunately, sometimes companies forget about whatever they just licensed and it sits in untranslated purgatory forever. This has a pretty big impact on the sales of the work since everyone will forget about it, and if the translation ever pick up again it may not sell well and discourage them continuing. I'm beginning to think it may be wise to learn Japanese if one is serious about reading or watching entertainment from the country, because there's no guarantee anything will have a full translation (I'm waiting on a bunch of things to be finished, that's what most of my plan to read list consists of)

I do prefer old horror literature, stuff like Poe and whatnot. Cosmic horror doesn't work in movies well, to the extent that I would say it's impossible to bring to the big screen effectively. Some crappy little amateur movies have been made with all of them being laughable, and hollywood wouldn't touch that sort of material with a ten foot pole unless they warped it into a mockery of itself. Event Horizon was sort of neat, reminded me of the original Hellraiser which was also decent. It's been a while but I enjoyed Dark City too. Cosmic and gothic horror are somewhat closely related since cosmic horror came right at the tail end of gothic horror, with some crossover (some would say Poe's works could have had the beginnings of cosmic horror)

I don't really care for movies in general. There's a few directors I like (need to go though Stanley Kubrick's movies one day) but for the most part I don't watch them. Same for TV, but that's even worse. You might like David Lynch's works if you haven't seen them. Twin Peaks is my favorite TV series and it has some elements of surreal horror/mindfuck.

I haven't listened to Anastasis yet because I've been listening to Lisa Gerrard's other works.

I haven't ordered it yet.. waiting to see if they're going to release more. I prefer to binge read 3 or more volumes at once over doing a single volume or chapter at a time.

As for horror movies, my feelings towards them are conflicted. Quite possibly my favorite movie I've seen so far is the original Alien, but I liked it primarily for the otherworldy aesthetics that HR Giger brought to life. I liked the first Silent Hill move for the same reason (although that wasn't anywhere near the level of Alien). Aside from those I haven't seen any other horror movies I enjoy. I like Cosmic and Gothic horror, but neither of those genres have decent movies that I've seen. I the kind of person that prefers terror to horror, but that is pretty much lost in today's movies. What do you think of them?
Chthonia Oct 16, 2014 2:43 PM
Ah, you were right. Anastasis came out in 2012, I just got it this year. I've seen that site before as well, they seem to add anyone that may have done metal at some point, even adding their non metal projects.
Chthonia Oct 15, 2014 10:46 PM
Dead Can Dance right? They're one of my favorites, and I think they released a new album this year. Impressive that they're still around after all this time. By sToa I mean this http://www.last.fm/music/sToa I enjoyed it but not as much as Life's Decay and Dark Sanctuary. Life's Decay starts off as rather average industrial but finds its niche after Alea joined as a singer and adds some good vocals with every album getting progressively better IMO. However I think their second most recent album release may be their best. Dark Sanctuary is good all the way through, though I don't remember them ever doing metal. It's possible another group had the same name, since lastfm doesn't separate artists of the same name for some stupid reason. Perhaps you're thinking Der Blaue Reiter, as the members have done all sorts of genres in the past including metal. Although it seems that there is a lot of crossover between neoclassical/martial/metal, with folks who do one usually dabbling in another at some point in time. The incorrect artist music could also be the fault of the ridiculous artist name thing I mentioned. Now I'm remembering why I never bothered with that site, so many stupid things like that. Besides, when it comes to recommendations it's best to ask people with similar taste anyway.
Chthonia Oct 15, 2014 9:51 PM
I have all of Arcana's albums and I think The New Light is the one I listened to. It's on my list to music to go through for sure, I'll probably listen to them next since I just finished sToa's discography. For lastfm, I primarily use the similar artists reccomendation on the sidebar of whatever artists I like, but what I really like is the blogs people write up http://www.last.fm/user/Coffinwood_Mill/journal/2011/04/21/4camq1_%252B_best_in_neofolk__martial__etc._2010_%252B
I haven't even started on this one. I also like how they preview some music right on the artist page so I can hear if it's something I like right away (though sometimes they don't have the best examples, which might have put me off artists I would have otherwise liked) Feel free to add me btw
