Both Miyazaki...both great storylines. Each has great elements of fantasy and action,.. and to finish.. each has an amazing OST by none other than Joe Hisaishi.

They pretty much share the same mentality regarding nature and spiritual life, both being influenced by the supernatural. The overall atmosphere is also the same with incredible scenery and hauntingly beautiful music. The most simple things turn out to be miracles of life.
report Recommended by induce
Both deal with the relationship between nature and humans. The OSTs are wonderful. The scenes of fight are very well done (even if Gin'iro no Kami no Agito is futuriste and Mononoke happens in the past).

Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are epic films by Hayao Miyazaki that will leave an imprint on you in some way or another. Truly unforgettable.

The anime movies have very exotic and interesting story lines, alway watch the Japanese version with english subtitles, much better than english dubs
report Recommended by meiwakuna-san
Made in Abyss has a very "Ghibli" feel, with an eerie feeling, and a lush, rich world and deep characters and story. More mysterious than Princess Mononoke but if you like one you should check out the other.
report Recommended by Sara_Isayama
Plotwise both are about a prince who's going on an adventure to fight a curse and stand up to his fate. Also the fantasy world's setting is similar: These are times when men fight between each other but also nature that they don't understand. Anime touch the subject of spiritual beings, demons and moral problems of humans who don't treasure life.

If you pay close attention you'll notice that Pokemon 4Ever takes a lot of influence from Princess Mononoke. Suicune appears to be based on the Forest Spirit, the Iron Masked Marauder appears to based on Eboshi, Satoshi appears to be based on Ashitaka, Celebi appears to be based on San, etc.
report Recommended by Zagettrix
The under world for "Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo" is very similar to the world of "Princess Mononoke". The detailed payed to the art work is spectacular and the story line is a darker children's tale.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
The setting in both movies is almost identical, The Deer King is more focused on politics and the scientific approach of the featured plague, while Mononoke has more grand, and impactful impression.
report Recommended by Tyrraell
Both these movies are set in a similar kinda time period (the beginings of guns and gunpowder) with Princess Mononoke being more fantasical Also they both deal with the conflict of ideals and loyalty.
report Recommended by CtrlAlexDelete
Both animes tell the story of strong girls trying to understand their own purpose in the related nature - living beings. *Earth's day approved*
report Recommended by ashura
both are supernatural themed stories and both have a somber more mature feel to its nature as well too and lots of philosophy as well.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both involves around a very interesting world, with lots of fantasy and with a slight touch of romance. They involve around conflicts, and both creates a grand adventure with bonds between beast and humans.
report Recommended by FatefulLove
The importance of the natural environment are major themes of both these works, although Miyori no Mori carries more of a fairytale and child-friendly ambience about it.
report Recommended by puedjies
They both have a similar vibe, a feel of feudalism and great character development.
report Recommended by PinkHeart19
A story of looking for a place you belong. A story of finding love. A story of the power of gods. And a story of the price you need to pay for making it your own, and the price of regaining what was lost.
report Recommended by luinthoron
Both protagonists are young men with a demonic curse. They travel the land in order to redeem themselves, as well as seeking answers. Combat with Demons, Animal Gods and Spirits in a similar time period and setting. Unusual friendships and bonds. Notions of war and famine.

Gedo Senki, meet your older, smarter sibling, Mononoke Hime. Gedo Seki may be based on the Earthsea novels, but Mononoke is considerably deeper, and every bit as visually and aurally impressive. To the inverse, if you've seen only Mononoke, Gedo Senki is worth watching for those visuals, and because it's Earthsea.
report Recommended by Pontifus
Both are Ghibli films which feature mythological creatures that live in forests. Even though the events are set in different eras, both depict the conflict between the natural world and industrial civilization, giving a positive message for the preservation of nature.
report Recommended by BohemianRhapsody
Both are excellent movies about nature and about the feelings of humans, the main character wants to help both humans and nature. Both have deeply thoughts about nature and humans with a philosophical touch.
report Recommended by tsubasaf
Both of these anime describe the relationship between man and wolf. Animal theme also present in both anime.

The world and character designs of Xam'd are all very Ghibliesque. Akiyuki may have been created drawing some inspiration from Ashitaka; each character is forced to accept his fate after absorbing a dangerous and ancient power into his forearm.
report Recommended by zenoslime
Both of these films are simply beautiful both in artwork and in story. The premise behind both stories is different However I strongly urge any who enjoy not just characters but amazing scenery to complete the full experience. Both films are written so well both will leave you with a lasting impression far beyond the ending credits.

One of the things which drew me to making this recommendation is the similarity in styles, but they also involve the subject of demons, although the takes differ except for one thing, that demons are a form of corruption. There is also a search for a cure going on, albeit who is cursed and who is searching for the curse differs slightly as well. The characters from both series are quite diverse in personality types, and the action is riveting.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
These two Anime are of the fantasy genre, feature a lot of action and a strong female protagonist. The setting is from an older age yet the fear of the demons is real for normal people in both series.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
First off they are both by Ghibli studios. So they both have that same magical feel, with beautifully animated art. Some form of nature is represented in both movies, filled with fantasy like aspects.

- kids vs the adults and the world - conflict of worlds - kids changing the history ("kids are the future") - dreamlike world

Messages. Although the two are far off from what they give storywise. They both have underlying messages to them which can be found the deeper you look into them. Although you could say this for any two anime, I found these two more relatable because of the art style is given, Puparia looks like an embellished version of Ghibli's style, with both anime still having that elegant tribal type art. In any case, looking over the two, ideas like the symbolism of human nature, and political ideologies like imperialism become visible with the required analysis. The type of anime that requires something along the lines of  read more

- supernatural creatures live peacefully in forests - human development destroys nature - conflict builds from smaller fights into all-out war - one main character is from the world of spirits/monsters and the other is from the human world - the two main characters are enemies at first - they slowly learn to get along and collaborate - cute little forest spirits are similar in design

As you can tell by the title, both involve the existence of creatures called mononoke. However, the plots are very different. The TV show Mononoke involves a medicine seller who goes around (each "arc" is 2-3 episdoes) and show how he exorcises or deals with the mononoke in other ways. The animation and art style is incredible, and the intro really slaps.

Shinsekai yori has a *very* similar feel to Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke. It very much has an epic feel that is just breathtaking and beautiful that is very similar to a Ghibli film. It is similar to Spirited Away, in that it is about the journey of children growing more mature, in a world of magical powers that they don't understand. With Princess Mononoke, it's a very similar setting, of a rural, medieval setting in Princess Mononoke, and a Post Apacolyptic/far future medieval setting in Shinsekai yori. Both have a very similar art style and epic feel, that impart deep messages.

+ Both are steampunk, action and fantasy. + War and gore are central themes. + The main character is a righteous, brave boy. + The girl is a deadly, mysterious warrior.

Both Wolf's Rain and Princess Mononoke have a lot to do with animals, the enviroment, and both take place in a slightly post-apocolyptic setting.

This recommendation has quite common similarities between the two films: -Both are created by legends (Hayao Miyazaki & Yoshiyuki Tomino) and are considered to be classics due to their aging years since their debut -Addresses earth's pollution and human nature that shows how much of an enemy society is in their era -San and Char are misanthropists who believe in "exceptional" due to their desires and troubled past are willing to preserve their ideals to prove how distasteful humanity is along with serving as deutaroganists -Ashitaka and Amuro are kind individuals who are dragged into war trying to find a solution to peace & are the heroes of their  read more

Possessive curses. At first glance, it looks weird to entangle Princess Mononoke and JJK, though I can say that both stories are similar in the respects that they have a protagonist who is cursed with a great evil force. Then they made everything in their power go forward with their ideals with the curse holding them back. Princess Mononoke does this with Ashitaka trying to save his life whilst stopping the ongoing war between the forest and Iron Town. JJK does this with Itadori fighting in the name of good so that he dies a hero with the new cursed power he has. Both are highly acclaimed  read more

Valediction. Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service both have the same opening of an individual of a family being told to go on their way to better themselves. Princess Mononoke has Ashitaka say farewell to his village after an attack causes harm to his body. Deliver Service has Kiki say farewell in hopes to become a better witch. Both are great anime movies with Princess Mononoke being much more brutal than Delivery Service. Both are made by the same studio being Studio Ghibli and have the same director Miyazaki Hayao. Memorable OST and pleasing visuals too.

It may seem a little off to recommend the two. But beyond backgrounds and looking at each as a standalone product. Princess Mononoke and AOT FS are very similar in what can be allocated to political ideologies, and the actions individuals feel the need to take, taking that into account and questioning it as such. With both using a fictional powerhouse within, Princess Mononoke adds on with imperialism, AOT FS adds on with almost fascist ideas. They both also have that opposition that will go full force to bring down these powers, usually with some kind of supernatural power on their side. Both are good anime with  read more

Both anime handle similar themes such as war and nature. the two also feature a female character torn between the side her adoptive family and the her true origins with the side of the protagonist. plus, there's a scene in the climax of the film which involves a giant monster rising from the canape of a forest/jungle.

Well in Princess Mononoke There is some romance and in this there is also romance. The relation is a guy falling in loving with a wolf girl. Also something not so important but something i admired was both animes had giant wolves.
report Recommended by Monjoex
Both revolve around the pollution of Earth and to the extent the corruption and vile nature of humanity making these two films a decade to see of their respective eras. Miyazaki and Tomino were no doubt at their peak when writing the stories of both stories (Miyazaki for the film and Tomino for the LN before it was a full fledged film decades later). If you like the themes of Earth pollution, corruption of humanity, natural environment, etc, no doubt you like like one if you already watched the other.

Both have a very similar feeling, although Da You Tang is a chinese anime. Both deal about the integration between humans or something similar to humans with nature and its balance.

The particular manner in which both strive for elegance struck me as very similar for some reason. The sense of mysticism (like with animals) is a bit similar as well.

The relationship between a mythical being/animal and a human one is one that brings the strangest of developments for a human-like us. Despite being of two separate lifeforms the conveying of emotion is the same regardless. Princess Mononoke and Boy and Beast check out with the two being about connections between the interspecies relationship as said above. Both are highly acclaimed movies where Princess Mononoke is more than just some Ghibli movie, the same for Boy and Beast being coming-of-age.

- Both center around of romantic story in feudal Japan. - Both have excellent, yet graphic action sequences. - Both cater to a more mature audience looking for a great anime film.

Ok, this is my first time writing one of these, so I hope it comes out alright. Although the plots are completely different - Mononoke Hime being more like the epic adventure type, this one being the touchy, makes-you-cry kind of short movie - they share common themes such as spirits, mountain gods and sacred forests. Both have slightly romantic atmospheres to them ('Hotarubi no Mori e' is a shoujo anime, so it's natural it develops more towards a love story than 'Mononoke Hime', in which the "love" depicted is more like admiration from one part). In other words, both revolve around ancient traditional Japanese  read more

Are you searching for an adventure anime aimed for an older audience? Golden Kamuy and Princess Mononoke stands apart from the countless shounen, fantasy, isekai anime where adventuring is often an afterthought to the story. Golden Kamuy has character driven episodes that are often lighter in tone and comedic and story driven episodes that are more serious in tone and dramatic. Each sequel adds depth to the characters while progressing the storyline. Princess Mononoke does not rely on heroes and villains for its storyline, but is still able to tell a story centered on conflict between the characters. As a bonus, both anime are set  read more

Both have heavy action, Claymores are part Youma, Ashitaka (Prince) is infected by curse: if they don't control their actions can loose control, strong female characters in both who are surrounded in mystery, both have small romance - San has feelings for Ashitaka as Claire does for Raki, although obstacles get in the way of this, both have same tension.

If you like kappa, you will love princess mononoke. Cause the similar things in this two anime is the beliefs in demon God.

Just now Ookami-san reminded me big time of old thing I already forgot. The theme "Big girl don't cry" is nothing new in any way, it was prospering long before the age of tsundere, or Kugimiya Rie.

The two are quite different, plot-wise, but if you're looking for nature symbolism and various attitudes about how humans interact with the environment (and vice-versa), the two productions are similar in that regard.

Both of these are fantasy animes about young adults going on a journey and learning more about the world beyond their hometown. Princess Mononoke is more violent and contains a more solid storyline, where Kino's Journey is more philosophical and abstract.

Made by the same director coupled with a very similar taste of storytelling makes this movie a must-watch for anyone who enjoyed Princess Mononoke.

Both main characters have a cursed arm where they set off on a venture to cure it. They both possess great strength from it. S.U.P deals with goblins and demons, while Princess Mononoke deals with gods. Both are filled with action and fantasy.

- Bloody scenes, downright horrific scenes, war, death and also death. - Both ask you questions about human nature and humans in contrast to other lifeforms. - Both (sets of?) protagonists come „into contact“ with Gods, you could say - although Mononoke Hime is more on the spiritual side while Evangelion on the other hand gets to a more philosophical core as a whole. - Even though they are set in completely different time scenarios, they both share the same kind of thick, threatening atmosphere: A constant tension, which only seems to be growing as (PETIT SPOILER) you can feel their respective worlds dying/coming to an end (/SPOILER) -  read more

Both have that "fresh" feel to it and have themes about nature and the uncovering of what is truly important in life. Both have excellent incorporation of music, though Piano no mori is more focused on it. The artwork is also superb like Mononoke. They both leave you off liberated and refreshed but with little funny quirks that make it realistic.

About girl who lives in a forest. She is the protector of life of all things. They will learn the truth about world they live in. Same art style and studio. Studio Ghibl films. One is a full length movie while the other a TV series.

Princess Mononoke is another Studio Ghibli film that focuses on people and their impact on nature. Both feature independent young women who are goal driven and stick to their beliefs. Princess Mononoke is a bit more graphic compared to Laputa, but the deep meaning behind both are very similar.

While Berserk does contain a larger amount of violence and a higher level of maturity, both are set in more primitive times, with sword fighting and combat. Both follow a moderately young male protagonist as they journey through the lands, battling humans and demons a like.

Porco Rosso and Mononoke Hime have really nothing much in common, except the fact that both of them were created by Miyazaki. But if you enjoyed Princess Mononoke, you'll surely enjoy Porco Rosso. Animation is beautiful in both movies, and stories, in yet so different settings, bring up a battle of 2 men against the curse they've brought upon themselves. Enjoy.

Princess mononoke helps spirits, Yuki helps people but she herself is a spirit. The feel is the same in both anime and it leaves you rooting for them and it takes you to a world of imagination not easily seen today.

Hikaru no Ou shares a lot of similarities with Mononoke Hime, to the point where it could almost be set in the same universe a thousand years later. The plot shares many similarities as well, together with the overall atmosphere. Despite the somewhat disappointing animation Hikaru no Ou is worth watching if you like this type of anime.
