Binge update after a few months of inactivity, it does at least test my memory and perhaps evokes a sense of nostalgia while I'm at it. Sighing at the start illustrates a good start.
What I (probably) ptw next: Slayers and more of Gundam, Oh! My Goddess then maybe Major/Sugar Rune. The list isn't getting smaller at all! In fact, it is getting bigger (I'll at least stop starting anymore... which was a lie...).
A little effort is now starting, the estimated time of completion is 10+ years... On a serious note, I might actually give this profile a makeover before the next semester starts.
There will be this one day where I'll get myself together and put some effort into this profile. But this one day seems quite far away... for now though... this will be a collection of random thoughts, grammar errors and ideas.
At least half of the anime I watch falls under romance, drama (the emotions/watery eyes), slice-of-life (maybe because its meaningful, or one that can be relatable. I don't know why but slice-of-life tends to make me smile warmly), and comedy (I mean, who doesn't like to laugh).
The manga I read are mostly romance, shoujo (since quite the few are romance and some contains great cheesy lines too), and drama.
For some reason, I tend to rate action-related anime harder. I don't know why, I like it too yet I don't feel it is a 9, but I did rate a few in a more lenient (as I feel it is lenient, that's the problem right there) way. I kind of want to rate some of my 8 to 9, yet I don't. My rating system has slightly changed over the years too.
I never was much of a critical person for just about anything, and here is one to subjectivity.
To be able to enjoy something is the essence of a successful entertainment. Maybe I should make my list solely based on enjoyment as it does make sense after all. If I didn't enjoy it, no matter how good the story (well it won't be exactly "good" then, but you know what I mean :P), the sound, the art, the characters would have close to no meaning. Enjoyment is what gives them the weight and spark. But if I were to rate solely on enjoyment, a large proportion of my 8s and 7s would increase in rating!
Anime and I ("me" almost sounds better):
Straight from a forum post (totally didn't edit this) under the title of "How did you get into anime."
Anime had been around me for as long as I remember, since in Hong Kong, anime was just really a set norm. It continued even when my family moved to Canada, titles like Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan and most Ghibli films were some of my most-viewed anime back then. I have to say that I already thought quite highly of anime by that time, since Princess Mononoke is still probably my favourite film. I would say that my family is one of the main reasons on why I like anime so much.
Seeing anime in both Cantonese and English from the television was what kept up my anime watching time. Pokemon, Spider Riders (Spider Riders! Lets ride~, part of the OP that I remember) are some of the titles that I really liked as a child. For Cantonese dub, Condor Hero and Cooking Boy was what I looked forwarded to during the weekends.
Naruto and Bleach were from my middle school times, but I wouldn't call them the catalyst (of why I watch anime like I do now) but those 2 were probably one of my earliest titles that I have watched online. While watching those two primarily and sharing the hype with some friends, I started browsing the web in search of more anime to watch. It soon brought me to MAL. After using the top list (from MAL) and watching titles like Clannad, My Bride is a Mermaid, and Da Capo (I remember that I copied out Kotori's song to sing it sometimes), and thus my username in which it just went up from there.
So, if I were to name one event, I would probably point off to romance anime, but that by itself is not significant enough without its "journey".
How I rate my anime:
My rating system is a mess (as only I can follow it clearly), I would actually like to expand my scores for a larger range. I need more 10s, 7s, and especially the use 6s again. I don't exactly force myself to watch those amazingly low scored anime (Mars of Destruction), so I never felt the need to rate any anime below a 6.
10: Outstanding, I loved the characters, the story/theme impacted me, basically I loved everything about it. 10s are not necessary better than the 9s but I just liked them more, except for FMA: Brotherhood, the 10 was partially due to some peer pressure xD
9: Great, some could be even be 10s. Just spectacular in every way possible. The sheer amounts of enjoyment may earn an anime a spot here!
8: I call this the "Anime dump mix " because of its diversity
Tier 4: Possible 9, very good, highly enjoyable. This is where the good actions tend to be. I did feel guilty giving a 8 to some, but I still didn't give a 9 to them. Looking back, I should've given them 9s as I hardly recommend any 8s.
Tier 3: Good-Quite good, may be a few flaws but are generally minor and is still very enjoyable
Tier 2: Average, still good, but does not expand itself enough (meaning that something is missing or is somewhat generic/common ). Though I do somewhat dislike words like generic (the most!), common or anything of similar nature . For the sake of this system, I will use it!
Tier 1: A bit below average, similar to Tier 2 but everything is a bit off.
7 (Sometimes I find my ratings for the 7s are too hard): Some flaws that I couldn't ignore, but still retains to be enjoyable, everything was alright but there may be a few problems I had with it.
6: Flaws, flaws everywhere! This is where good points and bad points goes to war. As they both now play a huge role as they are equal in amount(there are more good points! Contradiction!), I guess I don't have a 6 yet. Enjoyable, yet boring at some/many parts. I did use to have like 3 sixes, but I upgraded them to 7.
5: Boring time>enjoyable moments, A very low score (imo), and possibly the lowest. There could be some/many aspects that I disliked, which leads to minor or zero enjoyment. Maybe I shouldn't make a 5 being the lowest score. Hope I don't see one.
1: I'm just making one but this is entirely pointless to do so. One is a score that could be said to be universal (the same for everyone). Let's just say that it will be a catastrophic experience. If I see one, I will remember it for life.
Ever since I have watched Full Metal Panic, I grew to like paper weapons.
It's an anime I considered a hidden gem for the year 2015 in my opinion.

Oh, yeah! Satoshi Kon and his movies are nice. As for me, I was working a lot this summer, but I'm fine and I'm glad I finally got to pick up where I left off in Silent Mobius. Too bad, this manga hasn't gotten completely translated, but oh well. I think I might check out that new Black Jack anime.
