Both revolve around the pollution of Earth and to the extent the corruption and vile nature of humanity making these two films a decade to see of their respective eras.
Miyazaki and Tomino were no doubt at their peak when writing the stories of both stories (Miyazaki for the film and Tomino for the LN before it was a full fledged film decades later).
If you like the themes of Earth pollution, corruption of humanity, natural environment, etc, no doubt you like like one if you already watched the other.
