I do not rate things that I don't mind or that haven't made enough of an impression.
For example I think that Full Metal Alchemist doesn't have any big flaws. I just personally don't care. I thus don't want to give it a bad score but I don't want it to get mixed up with other well rated series that I actually really liked.
In the very specific case of Miyazaki however, they are obviously masterpieces but I do not want to flood my list with all Ghibli movies in existence, no no rating for them.
Of course, when I hesitate between two scores, the determining point will be how much I liked the anime personally.
I also do not rate series that are just bad and nothing more, especially if they are obvious quick cash grabs (like most harems, yuris and yaois for example)... Unless they made enough of a negative impression.
My ratings mean :
10 - Perfection (or as close as anyone could get).
9 - Amazing. So much so that I can be a bit of a nitpick.
8 - Very Good. A few details could have been corrected though.
7 - Good. But there might be some problems, usually in the plot or its meaning. Either that or it was as good as it could get but not ambitious enough to get a higher score.
6 - Fine. But the plot might be weak, pointless or disappointing.
5 - Junk Food. Probably not really good but one could watch it over and over again and never get tired.
4 - What a Shame. It could have been way better. It may be due to either wasted potential or utter pointlessness.
3 - Lazy. Perhaps not bad, but probably ostentatious and/or shallow.
2 - Bore Fest. Generic, cliché and lazy.
1 - Insulting. Probably not really bad overall, but casually insulting to its own potential audience.
