Cute little girl = magic book directory; she's in the care of a male who doesn't know much about 'that sort of thing' but accepts his new lifestyle.

The above is the most importiant element of both series's, however the simalarities end there...
Dantalian features the two amins traveling together, meeting unusual people and solving obscure mysteries.
'Index is an action series which features a case of familiar shounen character types.

420 - Both are similar because they feature a reluctant, impotent but extremely  invulnerable high school male main character, who continuously finds himself saving (passive) aggressive females who become enamored with him. Though Toaru Majustu never really commits to just one female, and Bakemonogatari is more sexually charged.

The strongest resemblance between the two reside in the fashion in which the protagonist build his harem, literally through throwing their lives away to save girls who they just met. Both MCs, though without strong ability power, have a strong sense of justice that can not be swayed no matter what. Of course, the main girl in each arc inevitably end up falling in love with our hero.

Furthermore, these anime both revolve around supernatural occurrences. While Toaru is based on more of a magic vs. science world, Bakemonogatari is a reinvention of Japanese myths.

Main character finds himself constantly in situations in which he sets on saving someone from supernatural danger, using supernatural means himself. Most of the characters in need of saving are girls and so a group of female admirers slowly builds around the protagonist. The anime  still stays story oriented and doesn't get distracted by harem aspects much. Most of the story is happening within one city.

The main character also helps many girls out with problems without them asking, with his special powers, although he says it is a hassle. Girls develop feelings for him because he saved them, even though they claim he is a bother. Pretty much monogatari set in a universe with scientific explanation of powers rather than a vague, real if you believe, powers.

- Both protagonists have supernatural powers, during the course of the anime rescue several girls who fall in love with them. In both the best girl is the tsundere (Monogatari: Senjougahara, Toaru: Misaka) in my opinion.
- In both, in various parts of the anime the protagonist is instructed by an expert on the subject (in Monogatari: Oshino, Toaru: Tsuchimikado).

Both stories have very big settings.
Both stories feature organizations' conflicts
Both stories have some creepy characters.
Both stories have massive amount of characters. Currently, Index>Durarara!! though.

Both anime show us story about big city life. There are few organisations fighting with each other and on the other side we can see daily routine of quite untypical teenagers. Both series have a large number of heroes. Each of them has its own personality, individual traits, habits and vices.Their fate is often intertwined with each other, complicating the whole story-line. Consummate sociologist will definetly find himself in both stories. However, the plot in Durarara!! is conducted in more mature way.

Both are supernatural action/drama/comedy storylines (although less of the comedy in Durarara and more of the action in Index). They both take place in epic urban settings and incorporate science fiction and fantasy into the same world in interesting and creative ways. The supernatural elements of both shows are explained just as much as they need to be and are really cool to watch. 

The characters are pretty different, although some parallels can be drawn between the supporting cast if you really try? But the main characters (Touma and Mikado) are both the same sort of "not necessarily a nice-guy-stereotype but incredibly moral and dedicated to their friends to the end kind of guy, and the female leads (Misaka and Index, and Celty and Anri) are unique and interesting in their own ways. The anti-heroe type characters are easier to draw similarities between, seeing as Accelerator is kind of the nightmarish combination of Shizuo's ridiculous strength and desire to not have to fight plus Izaya's attitude, pragmatism and general sociopathy.

Also the soundtrack in both shows is phenomenal. Like really, even if you don't watch either show, go look up the soundtrack to both because they are amazing. read more

Both shows feature or include the following:

A large cast of interesting and varied characters.
Excellent openings, endings, and backing tracks.
Mystery and intrigue balanced with action and humor.
Over 60 episodes.
Vending machine violence.

The shows certainly are not identical, but they share similar vibe, scope, and appearance. If you liked one of these anime it should be worth taking a look at the other.

Both animes takes place in urban ambient, with various locations. Both have numerous main characters and their gangs, exploring conflicts bethwen them.

Random guy who is kind hearted, meets cute girl in random circumstances. Girl happens to be related to some kind of supernatural power, and thus boy gets thrown into a choatic world of fighting, action, complex strange new principles, etc.

The atmospheres are quite similar, and both deal with people who can use certain kinds of magic.

Steiner and Excel (Kurokami) seem to be somewhat like Kanazaki and Stiyl (To Aru Majutsu no Index). They both had confrontations with the main characters and faught to either kill them or take them somewhere (mostly directed to Index and Kuro). Although after awhile, they became companions with the main characters.

Reishin (Kurokami) and Izzard (To Aru Majutsu no Index) were both seen as the main threat, but half way through the series it changes to someone else.

To Aru Majutsu no Index has multiple sets of characters who come from specific 'Church's' and are sent to take out the main characters, while Kurokami have people from different 'Clans', also set to take them out and obtain power.

Kuro and Index both seem to be important to their respective areas. Index being important as she has 103,000 of the grimoires stored in her memory, and Kuro as she is the princess of her tribe. They both encounter somewhat regular high school boys who both have their lives changed afterwards. read more

Both series contain a similar main female protagonist with a huge appetite for food when they first mysteriously meets the main male protagonist.

Both series gets somewhat darker as the episodes progresses.

Both series has a mixture of comedy, drama, fantasy, action, and romance.

Both series features magical battles.

The protagonists Shiro and Touma are both all about protecting and saving others regardless of any consequences. They both have limited amount of power but somehow manage to survive many fights against most powerful villains. The character constellation in terms of romances is quite the same, the protagonist is living with his main female compagnion and has another tsundere-type love interest which is more loosely connected.

The main protagonist of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? seem to have some ability of stealing/disable magic, that remind me of Toaru Majutsu no Index. And both are harem/action anime

They both operate on the premise of being an action/drama, but have a lot of comedy moments thrown in (More in the case of Kore wa Zombie---). The main characters both end up with a harem, have some form of ability to absorb magic, and are both "average guys". The first female characters introduced in each series also have incredible magic powers, but are unable to use them unless the situation is dire. They also have some parallels in appearance.

Oh, and the fanservice quotient for both is through the roof.

Both Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? & Toaru Majutsu no Index is similar in a way that they are both set in an ordinary world where special powers exist. The main character in each of the series is abused for either who he is or for what he does but is dependable when the time calls and will always fight for what they think is right. The MC in both is also accompanied by someone who holds extreme power but in unable/refuses to for certain reasons and is constantly try to protect them. Along their journey continues they overcome problems and gain new allies in the process. read more

I'll admit this may seem like an odd recommendation, but if you look closely you'll see how similar they are. The main characters in both (Touma/Ayumu) are very unlucky but kind-hearted teenage boys who, upon meeting a mysterious girl with a distinct appearance and uncontrollable power, discover that there's much more to their world than they thought. They also attract the feelings of multiple girls in the series. In both cases, these include the aforementioned mysterious girl (Index/Eucliwood), a prideful, short-tempered brunette (Mikoto/Haruna) and a magical pony-tailed swordswoman who hides her true feelings from others (Kaori/Seraphim).

Both are under the same author, but different main characters and different view points. Both tells of a view point of one of the characters that interacts with each other once in a while and tells what each of the characters know about the hidden secrets that both have no idea of.

Both anime deal with the paranormal and magic.  There are mysterious societies in both shows that seem to act the same.  In addition, the main protagonist in both shows are surrounded by a plethora of girls that seem to have an affinity for him.

In both animes, the characters have unique powers in which some of them are also very similar to Toaru Majutsu no Index. For example the main character - Touma has a very similar power to Dazai as he too is able to deactivate any ability that another peson has.

Protagonists and plot really strook me similar. 
Plot of the two anime centers more or less around MCs  beating up bad guys in their one-in-the-world city of wonders
> both Leo and Touma have an extremely rare power
> their powers are somehow similar (can no-sell most opponents, but are not OP)
> both have bad luck and end up getting kidnapped, having to fight etc.
> Touma is friends with a bunch of magicians/espers, Leo joins the main punk-beating group.
> are #1 at needing a hospital every arc
The difference is that Touma is more idealistic and brave, Leo being very smooth and kind to all. Also, Index throws Touma into a whole new world of intrigues and big plans very much over his head, while Leo has his own reasons to go for the mystery. read more

In both shows, the main protagonist gets a whole new view of the world. Namely through Magic/Alchemy and Death Gods/Restorations. They end up in a difficult plot, which can get themselves or the people they want to protect killed. Both situations get out of control as a higher evil organization starts to meddle.

Both action-packed, with the needed amount of humor and variaty of characters.

-Both of The Main Characters in their Perspective Series (Touma and Kotarou) are known as the Weak ones But They have some kind of Overpower Ability tho.

-Similar Fighting Style and Some of The Attacks they use are similar to one another as well tbh.

-Both of The MC's have a Harem.

-Accelerator and Yoshino have Similar Personalities and Likes To Fight for no reason Whatsoever (But Accelerator is a little bit more Crazy tbh).

If you Like Toaru or Rewrite Then you Might Like those two Anime tbh.

Both series deal with mature teenagers going through a great struggle to achieve some bigger goal, going to particular adventures, fighting for their lives. All the hardships they go through, together with friends and comrades, is in both series almost similar. Sometimes the characters are a bit more childish in FMA², but both series deal with alot of the same elements.

Both protagonists are in a way hapless? Hapless means not helpless, but simply unfortunate in their luck. The amount of unfortunate each experiences also ends up balanced out by another character who stands by their side. The journey each go through also isn't straight forward either.

Ueki no Housoku addpermalink

The main character in each series is a spikey-haired idiot who repeatedly saves people regardless of who they are - friend, enemy, ambiguous. Whoever needs saving at the time, it doesn't matter what their status is, it's no reason to influence whether they should be saved. Both spikey-haired idiots - Touma and Ueki - have a certain view on justice. Ueki lives for following his own justice to the point of challenging opponents who threaten that justice, and Touma repeatedly punches people in the face while lecturing them, and believes in seeing everyone have a happy ending, with no casualties, even if he ends up getting mangled in the process. On top of that, Accelerator and Robert have a lot of similarities, the former being the most powerful esper in the world and the latter being a ten-star Heavenly Being. They are ruthless, seemingly all-powerful, dislike having to fight (for different reasons - Accelerator wants people to see him too powerful to fight in the first place, and Robert loses years of his life from using his abilities too much), and both boys were ostracized by others as monsters from a young age that resulted in some serious destruction of the city they lived in. Then, the Robert-Ueki and Accelerator-Touma dynamics are also similar. 

Both series also have characters with unusual types of powers - in The Law of Ueki the various power users typically have one single power granted to them from a God Candidate, and in Toaru Majutsu no Index there are magicians and espers, the latter of whom can only have one single base power.

A boy ends up living in a school dorm with a certain girl of great pivotal importance to the whole series, whether he likes it or not. 
Both takes place in a danger-laced city made up primarily of students being the majority population. 
Both protagonists unfortunately frequently find themselves risking their lives in dangerous situations by facing murderous adversaries, for the people they care about--despite claiming or wishing; to be just ordinary high school students.

Both have a relatively normal, academic underachiever high school boy with supernatural abilities having to protect a mysterious girl with a mysterious power who is introduced at the beginning of the show.  There are plenty of other secondary characters in the show, some of whom are good and some of whom are evil, who have unique powers of their own.  The two shows have an extremely similar feel to them.

The strong should rule over the weak and evil is always lurking beneath the harmonious cities of the community. However, in the worst outbreak comes good people who strives to do the right thing.

'Tokyo ESP' has a sensational vibe on the environments which is combined with the breathtaking battles and bloodshed that will keep you wanting more. The comprehension leading to the merciless killings of the innocent can not simply be justified as a pure goal and it seems war in inevitable. 

'Toaru Majutsu no Index' has a richer and deeper storyline that will strengthen one's attraction to a certain character regardless on how sadistic that person is. The battles here have a wider range in terms of ability and technique which keeps the freshness going. No one is destined to achieve greatness and it's the actions that you show to the people around you that defines who you are. read more
