Hiya, the handle I go by here is Skyrine. However, I'm usually just called Sky (as I go for alternatives to Skyline quite often, substituting the -line part). I guess I should run down a bit about me and anime.
First off,
here is where I used to write about anime. There might be something interesting for you there. Nowadays, I just purely watch anime rather than write about it.
History
I started watching anime in December in 2008 by really a freak event. I was helping out my junior high with their volleyball tournament after-school. Of course, it was a bit boring being there till 9 - 10 pm. Around 7~ ish, my friend brings up his laptop with a copy of Stepmania (the PC version of DDR basically). As I scrolled through the songs, I didn't know any of them (many of which if I looked at today, I probably know what anime they're from) and I didn't really what would qualify as good or bad. So I let my fate of random song choose for me. It landed on Haruhi Suzumiya's 1st character song, Parallel Days. And I was hooked. I can tell you right now that I was really only getting good at the song because I just wanted to listen to it over and over.
Even after I got home, I couldn't get the song out of my head. So I looked it up on Youtube. And that's how I started watching anime for real. I had previous watched them as a child but never knew them as anime (I know right?) so I don't add what I watched back then onto my list. I did however watch Lucky Star in August of '08 as someone was cheering me up one day. What a choice huh?
Anime Preferences
As I basically grew my anime experiences from slice-of-life animes, I tend to watch animes that are within that genre. It's not that I don't give other genres a chance either, it's more that I find myself most comfortable within that area.
To be really honest though, I really do watch just about anything. Both good and bad, typical and uncommon, etc.. etc... I feel like I shouldn't limit myself to boundaries when selecting what anime to watch so I just end up watching a lot of things at once. This is why you'll see that I have a ton of airing animes on my watching list. For what I pick for my backlog, it's a bit more selective. Sometimes I pick based off of a producer, artist, or simply what I feel like I could use at the moment whether be cheering myself up with Slice-of-Life or crying my eyes out with a thematic or romantic anime.
How I Rate Things
I rate animes from 5 - 10. I like to joke with myself and say that I'm using the "school project" rating system. What that means is that basically as long as there's animation, characters, a basic plot, and art that isn't stick-men (for the whole anime), then it's a 5. No matter how much I hate it, it's a 5. How to go up from there really depends on what the anime is, what it believes its purpose / main attraction is, and how it executes that.
I really only recommend animes in my 9 or 10 rating as those classify as being what I think is an anime that brings something special to the table (whether that be ideas / concepts, characters that I enjoyed seeing develop, or just pure execution).
And that's it
Thanks for reading for this far. Hopefully, you got know a bit more about me.
