I watch anime extremely rarely, so don't expect me to be very active here.
The most important truth:
Bullshit about me that no one is gonna read:
My favourite Music
I listen to a lot of music, my favourite genres are alternative a indie rock, progressive rock, post-punk, synthpop/new wave, gothic rock, britpop, folk and I also like various metal from heavy to death, black, doom and prog metal.
Sometimes I listen to classical music.
If you want to know more just check my RateYourmusic profile.
Favourite TV shows
Other than anime my favourite TV shows are mostly sitcoms from Britain, mainly because they don't tend to run for too long, when it comes to music and TV I am a huge Anglophile. They also produced some good serious shows though.
Some examples:
Yes Minister, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, Only Fools and Horsers, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, Mr. Bean, The Day Today, Father Ted, I'm Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, Spaced, Black Books, The Office, Peep Show, Green Wing, Darkplace, The Thick of It, Extras, IT Crowd, The Mitchell and Webb Look, The Inbetweeners, The Prisoner, Sherlock, Black Mirror and Utopia.
From American shows I like The Old Simpsons, Chuck, Monk, Friends and Frasier. I heard good things about the HBO shows but I don't really feel like checking them out.
Favourite Movies
It would be really hard for me to make any kind of list of my favourite movies, so instead here is my basic list of directors I personally respect:
Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, Béla Tarr, Warner Harzog, David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky, Sergio Leone, Terrence Malick, Michael Haneke, Harmony Korine, James Gray, Andrei Tarkovsky, The Coen Brothers, Miloš Forman, Martin Scorsese, Denis Villeneuve, Damien Chazelle, Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, Guy Ritchie (only for his first 2 movies), Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Spike Jonze, Edgar Wright, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Danny Boyle.
My top video games
1. Portal 2
2. Mafia
3. Assassin's Creed II
4. Max Payne 1/2
5. Beyond Good & Evil
6. Silent Hill 2
7. Alan Wake
8. Hitman: Silent Assassin/Blood Money
9. Psychonauts
10. Hidden & Dangerous 2
I don't have any favourite books as I read only non-fiction literature.
Other interests:
Ice hockey (passively), biking and swimming (actively), drawing, painting, bird watching.
The first anime I've watched were shitty ones like Pokemon, Shaman King and Naruto, and I wasn't interested in anime so much, but then I've seen Soul Eater and Death note and became an anime fan.
I think there are basically 3 kinds of anime (or movies and series in general):
1. Sad anime, which appeal to your emotions and really move you and make you feel for the characters.
2. Funny anime which either make you laugh (all stupid moe and ecchi anime which I find unfunny also belong here) or you never get bored watching them.
3. Smart anime which make you think and contain some more depth than usual.(I consider these the most valuable)
(IMO there shouldn't be more than 2 point difference between story and overall rating, the story is always the most important thing, then characters and entertainment value. I don't care about sound and animation very much as long as it is watchable, but it can still have influence on overall score)
I can't take you seriously if you watch anime dubbed, not because I'm a weeb, but I because believe all media are meant to be viewed in their original language.
MY THOUGHTS ON MAL AND YOU ITS COMMUNITY
Myanimelist.net is an website holds many interesting features like being able to have an anime and manga list.
It's safe to say the system works and is very useful. The only downside is the community. They're not just some retarded weeaboos who think its cool to rage quit at every other post (at least a majority anyway).Think of it as if Gaians finished college. Since they have a record of their anime stats, they use it to show off how big their E-penis is at any given moment. They look down on those who have seen significantly less anime than they have and render their opinions invalid, which may or may not already be invalid from the beginning.
If you thought the community was bad, the episode discussion topics are worse. Why? Because this is the place where those college-graduated, degree-awarded, full grown adult MAL users go to become their inner tantrum throwing 4 year old. They complain about every little thing here, which leaves us to wonder even more why? But I know why. No one on MAL enjoys anime anymore. That's why.
(Originally by this guy)
I try to be a bit more more critical when rating things, but ultimately my ratings are based mainly on personal enjoyment.
I know my average scores are still inflated, but I won't bother with anime which I know will suck (5/10 or below).
I dislike both fanboys who rate every turd they watch with 9 or 10 as well as those pseudo-elitists who think they are serious critics because they rate everything extremely low without proper reasoning to fit in.
Getting 'helpful' votes on MAL reviews is matter of pure luck, don't stop writing because some idiots keep writing mean comments to you.
Today, unfortunately most reviewers are about gaining publicity and ego rather than being helpful to community.
If you've read this whole thing, it means you care enough about me to send a friend request.
(Just kidding, I don't accept random friend requests from strangers.)
Yes. I enjoyed it, but there are some pretty glaring problems. Starting in media res was a poor decision, Shouko has almost no character, Ueno is a bitch, and some events were very forced (the big argument at the climax). Coulda been way better.
I'm kind of contrarian. Hype makes me more biased against things that suck. Yeah, I'm definitely jaded from all the shitty anime getting shat out.
Digibro does some great analyses, but yeah, some of his tastes are super questionable (like K-On, as you said).
I think the only anime I've watched in the past year that I didn't watch just for first impressions were Orange, Kingsglaive, and Your Name.
It's not a good time to get into anime because the industry is progressively bending itself over to pander to otaku, so more casual fans aren't going to be into that sort of shit.
I would only watch Eromanga Sensei for a first impression video.

I forgive you? I had to reread our exchanges to have any idea who you were lol. Glad you realized I was right on at least that one thing. Would you say it was because you just weren't experienced enough to see what was going on with the anime industry?
I haven't done any videos or anything because I haven't had the time and motivation to make anime videos for a while. I just have more important things to take care of right now.
Why do you feel now is the time to "get back into anime"? I'd say it couldn't be a worse time to do so.
Ignore snob, he's being pigheaded as usual. Erased is actually good so far, doesn't have that many major hiccups and is handling its premise with restraint.
