5ds is rather a nicely done series, its different than the other 2 beforehand, for one thing, Yuusei is a seinin not a shounen and the story went for a really great road.
Jaden (Juudai) however is still the most epic player especially toward the end at episode 140 he really grow up =w=, Yuugi is being Yuugi undefeatable.
No doubt Fudo Yuusei is the best yu gi oh protag, just loves how he plays with his cards and personality. Still he lives until the end. Waiting for movies or OVA to show the friends reunite. The ending was just awesome seeing everyone grow up.
If you ask me, a show is better when it is for specific tastes and not when it aims to please everybody, in this case with silly fan service. Nobody ends up liking it a lot.
You are right, I should have said dull instead of one-dimensional. That still doesn't save it from its core problems. It would be far better with no fan service and more plot.
I am reading your K review where you seem to not understand why many didn't like it. It's simply because most of it is aimless and full of tired softporn. And most of them really are one-dimensional; I see nothing worth more than two lines to describe.
