GTO and Golden Boy are extremely similar in style and humor - both feature honest and hardworking leads who will go to great lengths to make a difference in another person's life. And both are prone to trouble, especially when women are involved. The two shows have their differences though - they're similar enough that I'm absolutely sure anyone who enjoys one should watch the other, but not so similar that either feels like a ripoff.

Before there was Assassination Classroom there was GTO or Great Teacher Onizuka, but there is a chance we wouldn't even have Assasination Classroom if weren't for GTO as this was one of the first series to focus on a teacher having a positive effect on their students who are best described as the worst of the worst for any number of reasons, or in the very least it is the first to really stand out. The methods are certainly unconventional and could lead to certain ramifications for said teacher.

Apart from the main characters being completely random, both series having re-occurring characters and a similar style of humor, there are not too many similarities. However, if you like either of these series, your almost guaranteed to love the other! Both start out fairly slow, so watch at least the first 5 episodes and you WILL be hooked.

Both of these shows follow the same formula, featuring a rough-around-the-edges new teacher reaching out to problem students who eat normal teachers for breakfast. GTO is the funnier of the two by a long shot, but they're both quite good.

Although the stories are completely different, the style of comedy and animation are quite similar.

A new member joins a class and over the course of the show, changes the dynamic entirely. That is the premise of both anime. The main characters of GTO and Sakamoto desu ga? are very similar in their actions and the effects that they have on their classmates and students. They help people with their problems in a comedic and dramatic way, forever changing the lives of the people around them. They turn their enemies into friends and have a knack for swaying people to their sides. The comedy in both anime are two sides of the same coin. The humour in Sakamoto desu ga?  read more

Both are your non-standard teachers who help the students and "lecture" them outside of school. This is the he way deals with problematic kids, and aid the not so bad ones. However the differences are that Onizuka wanted to do it, but Junichirou didn't, and also Junichirou is open about the fact that he is a hardcore otaku and seems to have everything going for him. Unlike Onizuka who had to overcome many obstacles as a teacher, and fight for both the privilege to teach as well as many things and Junichirou had the job forced on him against his will.

Reigen Arataka and Onizuka are highly similar in character: People who at first glance, would seem like swindlers or frauds. More than that, what makes them similar is, they genuinely care for their sidekicks/students and are ready to protect them from any harm that they may encounter. Imo, both Reigen's design, as well as character, is heavily inspired by Onizuka. Both also possess that subtle charisma and self-confidence that makes viewers like them.

Both are likeable, manly, rebellious and funny series of the school-comedy-slice of life genre, and both involve delinquents, students, gangs, fights, rivalry, friendship. The main characters in GTO are older than the ones in Kyou Kara Ore Wa, but the style and hilarity level are overall the same. Also, both anime are Studio Pierrot productions and have a rather similar character design.

Mature Seinen with Adults. Of course, besides that Yajima and Eikichi share the same "badass motorist" past and the posterior "good boy but respected present", both of them are MasterPieces, in both of them the mature romance is well represented (in Salaryman Kintarou a little better)...And the life is not as sweet as other mangas neither as dark, They are realistic, and their main characters are two of the most charismatic and interesting characters ever done.

The anime themselves aren't really alike at all, however if you liked the main character of one, you'll like the other. They're both funny and great in a fight, and overall feel almost like the same character.

So similar are Onizuka (GTO) and Ryo (City Hunter) that I have to assume Fujisawa was inspired by City Hunter when he created GTO. The way the two alternate between perverted idiot mode - always making women fall for them but, for one reason or another, never getting laid - and superhero mode makes it impossible for me to think of one without thinking of the other. Nothing is impossible for them, no matter the circumstances. Boys are inspired to become men after watching their actions, and no woman can resist the duo's manliness for too long--even if they do get slapped a lot, to begin  read more

In both, innovative teachers try to change the students and the schools they are working at. They are confronted by the school authorities and supported by the students. Both are kind, humane anime series with the elements of comedy, nevertheless, both touch serious social issues. GTO, however, tends to be deeper, while I My Me! is more light-hearted.

Both anime have very funny and stupid protagonists whose hobbies are playing video games, reading manga and collecting stuff such as action figures, and getting in trouble with authority figures.

Education, Slice of Life, Betrayal, Drama - these genres fit the full package in getting you hyped-up to watch this Anime non-stop! The main protagonist, Eikichi Onizuka, personalities are quite similar to the protagonist, Koro-Sensei, from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu anime; Despite the setting of the story, they are both comical from just their facial expressions alone to the insane actions they performed. They both share similar goals as to help students, striving them to walk the right path in life and giving the audience a sense of thoughts on their real life. They both have very irresponsible people who everything works out for and are vital to the people around them success. They are impossible to fire. They both have a love plot that never develops. They are very funny and have a fun feel to them. GTO the main character will try, but in ICT he doesn't appear to give it any effort.

Both series have about the same comedy-drama ratio (well at least for the first half of NHK, it later turns to mostly drama). Both also deal with many serious issues, but never fail to deliver on humor either. Also both series have something other comedies usually don't, a heart. There's a real heart to them both. Also both series have some pervy humor in them, but also other types as well. Also I just think both series would apeal to the same type of person. There is a difference however. There are mainly two categories among my favorite comedy series. The first one is the Fumoffu/School Rumble group, typical (but great) high school comedy. The second category, only composed by GTO and DMC, distinguishes itself by a more particular sense of humor. They both share awesomely wicked main characters, and also 3 letters title acronyms.

Both are high school comedies featuring a blond main character named Onizuka who is a reformed delinquent. With the series Sket Dance we have Onizuka Himeko, formerly known as Onihime, who is now a proud member of the Sket Dan, an extracurricular club that takes on students' requests for help. With the series Great Teacher Onizuka we have Onizuka Eikichi, formerly known as Eikichi the Oni, who is now striving toward becoming a good teacher now that he's finished a student teaching position successfully. OK. Let me be clear. Both anime plots are very different, you can say that one is parody of heroes, another ''parody'' of school/ life, same with characters. Both anime have plenty of humor, protoganists are ''teachers'', jus one of them (Saitama) have one pupil, and they ( Saitama, Onizuka) are not very amm... educated...? But sometimes they give some wise man impression. Both getting involved in some ridiculous situations. Both have selfish gains: one is ''hero for the fun'' and wants to find strong opponent, other - became a teacher to create his own harem (lol), but both helps people in their environment. The show also takes place in a school setting, Tohru Furuya also voices a popular teacher with a flaw, both comedic, and also licensed by Tokyopop.

Students hate their teacher, all the teachers ran away from them, but then one "special" teacher comes. Students think he will be just like other teachers but he proves that he is different from other teachers and slowly just by being himself makes students to like him. Great tutor is much more intelectual than Onizuka and they are overall very different people. Both comedies and pretty funny

I found the comedy and the overall atmosphere of the shows to be similar in a lot of ways. Watching Grand Blue reminded me of Great Teacher Onizuka and I really enjoyed both anime.

Both have a teacher who helps students with their problems, in GTO the problems are more serious, with an adult story, and demi-chan has more "kawai" characters. Besides, they both have comedy too.

How is Colorful like Great Teacher Onizuka? Colorful is a straight laced film, while GTO is a silly series. The thing is, they're both quite serious anime. (GTO is just a serious anime that allows itself to get silly at times, and I honestly think that's what makes it so great.) Both anime address Japan's suicide problem (in very different ways).

Both these anime are about a new teacher assigned to a class who had a bad experience with a previous homeroom teacher. Both teachers try to get to know their students on a personal level, and help them with their problems. I find both shows rather sweet, but I must worn you: if you find the thought of horny nine-year-olds uncomfortable, you might want to stay away from Kodomo no Jikan.

two comedies with school setting, about a newly arrived student/teacher with second identity (soldier and ex gang leader respectively), whose quirkiness and general lack of common sense result in many hilarious antics.
report Recommended by sillyfang
Both are great comedy shows surrounding school and the life of students. If you liked GTO, you'll definitely love this one and vice versa. They both show the hidden pleasures of being in school and making friends with the constant search for beautiful ladies. The biggest differences between the two would be the point of view and the dept of the content, one follows students and the other follows the teacher, which adds a more mature aura to the content. Overall, both shows are great and can make great laughs or remind of the past.

Life lessons in a nutshell. Light-hearted fun with some sort of intensity. Mob had tons more action. GTO animation was kind of bad but had way more character development. Both had comedy and you could learn a lot of lessons from it

Both GTO and Shigofumi attempt to address some of the more mature/darker topics in high school. These issues include bullying, suicide, isolation. GTO's approach is funny and inspirational while Shigofumi can be very depressing. However, both anime give the audience an overall feeling of hope.

Both anime are similar in the sense that they involve a guy trying to teach a group of trouble makers. Onizuka teaches an entire class while Uesugi is a student tutoring five girls who are quintuplets. Over the coarse of both shows, the students start off hating both of them, but gradually open up to Onizuka and Uesugi. It’s an uphill battle for these two to gain their students’ trust, but they win them over as the show progresses. If you’re into bonds between characters starting off weak, but getting stronger as time passes, you might like these shows.

They explore trust (in oneself and others). The dynamic is a wave between tension and moving moments. The main characters start a career for silly reasons and have their own way to it.

Onizuka and Furuta are both hilarious main characters that strive to be the very best in their respective field (Greatest teacher/greatest aesthete). Both series also feature the perhaps most hilarious facial expressions ever seen in anime. Both characters are also clumsy to some extent, and aren't aware of their talent, but still leave great impressions on the people around them.

Both main characters are teachers. They have students that are almost close to them. Some are weird :). But if your looking for comedy, school, and some romance both of this animes are great to watch!. And that on Zan Sayounara Zetsobou Sensei the main character is in despair just like in GTO . Well kind of.. But if your thinking about it then WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!

Although GTO actually has a consistent plot and story (where Colorful doesn't), they both use the same style of overly-expressive facial animations. This is a good thing IMO.

Sure this anime has nothing in common except for it's about teacher's and how they bond with their students. but you would love the comedy and a different energy in both gto and doki doki school hours.

Okay seriously now, if you liked Kamina in TTGL then you will fall head over man-heels for Onizuka. Kamina was pretty good but Onizuka is as manly as it gets, and it's a shame that many people are oblivious to it. If you're looking for a series for MEN, then you need to get into GTO. Preferably the manga but the anime is fine too.

Ex delinquents turned - more or less - productive elements of society. Although complete opposites for personality and motivations, both Onizuka (teacher) and Tatsu (househusband) are tough, strong-willed but goofy former gang members who left the criminal side of life to follow their goal or loved one, with hilarious results. While GTO has crude comedy, fanservice and action with controversial/sensitive scenes/topics in a school setting, Gokushufudou is a much more wholesome and tame slice of life story. Still, they share an educational purpose of sorts - in very different ways: Onizuka usually shows a perverted, immature side and irreverent thug attitude, resorting to questionable, if not illegal  read more

Madonna: An OVA clocking in at not too far under two hours that's in desperate need of lovin'. Its current 6-something rating is a joke, and under 100 ratings - even though it was released in America - is puzzling. Both of them show comedy and how to deal with kids in there classrooms. They have a unique way to handle the student and also create a bond with them. They make a few of these student change there ways and there attitudes are completely opposite. Onizuka is a happy go lucky person and Zetsubou Sensei is filled wtih despair... First similarity is of course 90s anime feeling and style. Second is that in someway both talking about school, but not normal school like you probably know, but the best school you ever seen, ever. Another future that those anime have are worth remarking main characters, one of most funniest i had occasion to see in the anime world. Last but not least is type of humor that both anime are showing, ridiculous but still smart, and maybe little perverted.

Onizuka is not your average teacher. Instead of teaching normal lessons he's trying to make everyone realize the importance of being a good person before being a good student. Being a teacher is a serious responsibility and he has to struggle a lot against some undisciplined children. Still, like Naruto, he's very serious about his goals and won't give up till the very end thus succeeding in becoming a teacher despite the fact that he was a legendary gank leader before.

Both feature teacher-student relationships especially with problem students. The difference being GTO is a strong teacher and focused on delinquents and getting along generally with students. Kyoukasho ni Nai (Very Private Lesson) is more about a wimpy teacher being played by a problem student who happens to be a Yakuza boss' daughter. KNN is more ecchi, but only two OVA episodes were made despite 18 volumes in the manga.

Both have a hotheaded protagonist with superior strength and just loves beating the crap out of those who piss them off. Though they do have a totally different plot (One being a quasi-teacher of a class full of delinquents and the other a student and his football club life) But seriously, those two lead characters are like reincarnation of each other in different animes! The way they talk, behave, troubles others, and how they use their superior strength to solve any problems they face. So the point is, if you idolize one of the protagonist in those anime, you'll surely love the other as well!
