Mothers and melodrama, flowers and fantasy, death and growth. Sappy, slow-paced, mellow movies with tear-jerking endings, showing the struggles and choices of single girls raising their rather peculiar children, as well as concerning how the latter feel; it is to be noted that both moms look about the same age as their kids' teenage version.

A heartwarming tale with a lighthearted mood to go with the idea of taking care of children and parenting. That is a major theme in both series. In both series, there is the idea of growing up. However, it is up to the parent to take care of them and raise the child to become independent. There is a slice of feeling that goes along with the concept of parenting. After all, raising a kid is not easy and often comes with challenges and struggles. Yet in both series, the characters gets along well together and they take on life itself with that slice-of-life feeling. The main characters  read more

Both have families moving into an old vacant house in rural areas. They have funny and childishness moments that have supernatural aspects to it. Not to mention both are movies and have absolutely wonderful and beautiful animation.

While watching Ame to Yuki i had the same lighthearted and yet bittersweet feeling that gave me Toki wo Kakeru Shojo. Not only they share a very similar artstyle, which is very pleasant, but also both movies share a strong supernatural theme who quickly become the main focus of the story. Both plot are told gently and can make you experience some nice time to spend watching. Also, both series share a very important element that they show in their own way: love trascend time and any kind of race. Absolutly recommended both titles! Because they both might have the power to let you tell, after watching them, "Why  read more

Both have similar topics. When a person losses someone they loved and have to raise their childrens on their own. Extremily poweful and heartbreaking. Cute childrens ( ushio, ame) that have sad stories on their own. Both have a fantasy but intead of making the story boring and unrealistic, make it more powerful. If you like it, you will definetly like the other.

Mamoru Hosoda is a master at playing heartstrings, and both of these tales of family, connection, bonding, and intimacy are underscored by their raw beauty and emotional density.

If you love stories about family, and raising a child, then you will adore this film. Both Somali and the Forest Spirit and Wolf Children deal with a single parent having to care for children, and must safely guide them to where they can live freely and safely. Both have beautiful background imagery and original score.

Some same feelings you can get in this two movies is about "How you can not live alone." and "You should choose yourself your life path." ... Both the story have main character(s) that leave city's life to make a country's life. And about the pasts that make them to choose their life paths ...

Kaguya-hime no Monogatari and Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki share very similar themes. Both films illustrate human parent(s) raising supernatural children and explores the types of struggles the child and parents face together. Both of these films take place over several years, depicting the challenges each parent faces during different stages in their child's development. Another theme these two films share is nature, and more specifically raising children in it. Both films show children discovering the small wonders of plants, animals, agriculture, seasons, life cycles etc. Both films are central to the theme of nature and living off of the land.

The adventures of adorable human-animal hybrid children. Friendship between kids of different species. Cheerful single moms. Family-friendly fantasy films with emphasis on nature and beautiful animation. One ending is much more bittersweet than the other though.

Both contain themes of coming of age, accepting yourself for who you are, and what your place in world is.

Coming of age. Growing up can be hard, especially with how the world can view you or vice versa, another struggle that comes with growing up is regret. Stories A Silent Voice and Wolf Children understand this clearly. A Silent Voice is about Ishida and his past regrets of being a former bully and how that had changed him, his reputation, and his views. Wolf Children is about Ame and Yuki’s time growing up and learning how different people act with the 'strange' people around them, causing them as well, to have their personalities and views change. Both are great anime movies which earn the titles of  read more

Shapeshifting. Animal instinct vs human society. Lone, prideful boy wolves and their pack. Tragedy, adventure and mystery. Flowers. Soothing piano pieces. Flawless animation. Wolf's Rain is a far more depressing and dark urban fable (beware the OVAs) whereas Ookami Kodomo has a wholesome, rural slice of life nature, although the beginning and ending of its story aren't exactly happy. Either way, when you feel like howling at the moon, watch these.

Wolf Children is the Spice & Wolf anime continuaton/epilogue/whatever we're never gonna get. As soon as I read the description, I KNEW: Madhouse had come to the rescue of Howo. Furries across the globe can now die happy, along with me... even though I'm not into animals; Howo aside. Without spoiling too much, let's just say Wolf Children goes in the general direction S&W EVENTUALLY does. Yes. The genders are reversed (DO NOT WANT MALE HOWO--NO!) from S&W's pairing but that matters not when the movie is about half wolf, half human children coming to terms with life. Both are extremely cute, emotional and sad at certain points of the movie. There seems to be hidden meanings behind the seemingly simple movies. Both are very nice to watch to cheer you up or get your mind off things. Amtalg is a hidden gem whereas Ookami Kodomo is well known.

Both of these anime have very different story, but what I find similar is that protagonists are involved in an incident that affects their feelings and lives. So they end up having to learn a lot from life, get mature, understand their feelings better and let go of things that troubles them most. Both have a nice story, breath taking animation and emotional scenes.

They both have those parts where you can get all excited and say, "Is this IT!? Is this IT!?" You can really feel that heart warming moment when the characters accept each other as who they are. Definitely recommended.

Loneliness, Sorrow and family. This are the most impelling issues of the film. It is has few main characters and some supporting ones, but are all genuine and belivable. We get an insight of a small family that has lost almost everything but themself. The way they try to find their purpose in life and a place to be accepted in the society is the core reason to watch this animation. This is not a film you want to watch if you expect to laugh, but you can find some comical relief or likeable icebreakes. For the most part it is a tragic story about  read more

Transforming hybrids. BNA and Wolf Children aren't so similar in plot but both have people who can transform in between humans and some other animals. Both stories also have it so that characters who can transform have to hide from the outer society due to the threats they pose on them. Both are good anime with one being targeted at action lovers, the other bringing forth a more emotional and dramatic movie.

The mother’s love. Wolf Children and The Helpful Fox Senko-san both follow mother figures who take care of someone important to them. Wolf Children is Hana and her time in raising her children who happen to be half-human half-wolf. Senko-san is about Senko and her pampering for Nakano as he struggles from hard work every day. Both are good anime with wholesome moments, with Wolf Children being a drama s.o.l, Senko-san being more comedy.

The pacing and the setting is completely different; however, the main idea is similar. In Tokyo Ghoul, Kaneki struggles to find who he truly is: human or ghoul. In Ookami Kodomo, the two children, Ame and Yuki struggle to figure out their identity. They both have great art, soundtrack, and story. If you are still having chills up your spine after watching an intense series like Tokyo Ghoul, I recommend watching this to calm down

I was constantly thinking of Fruits Basket themes when watching Ookami Kodomo and both series both share a similar plot with how the children turn into animals. The themes of dealing with a possessed child as a parent, the struggles of growing up, finding love, living in society, succumbing to animal instincts and using it as an advantage, and generally the paths of living as someone who transforms all made me compare it back to Fruits Basket which explores it to an even deeper level than Ookami Kodomo does. On the surface, you might think that this to title doesn't have too much in common... However, they have the main concept develoment to the long of the story. "The important of a family". "Wolf Children" can be a little messy in terms of plot, but it has an amazing charcater develoment and music and art that help to tell the story they want. The theme exploration and the use of the concept in the psycology of the characters is a lot better explored in this movie. They give you time to make you empatize with them and know them... How life is beautiful for both the wonders and the hardships. That was one of the special things that Wolf Children transmitted me, and The Wind Rises has exactly the same message. The plot may differ, since the first is a little more dramatic and its based on something fantastic/supernatural, while the second focus more in the life of a single person and his dreams than the conformation of a family. Even so, the decisions and variety of emotions from the main characters make these two films to have a similar meaning.

An anomaly child. Family. According to a few, one of the best connections in life resides in family, there is simply no connection as eternal as family, that is what Wolf Children and Summer Wars presents to the audience. This concept is quite literally built into everyone in common shapes to those more distorted and unparalleled. Whatever it is, these two movies look into families similar and not to our own at home. Very similar in how they're both balancing between slice-of-life and drama. They are both about the mostly ordinary life of a family, but they still have character depth and some semblance of a flowing story. They also strike the same tone of struggling a bit to get by but still being happy together with your family.

While ponpoko revolves around the issue of humans polluting nature, if you liked the idea of animals transforming into humans, then wolf children is also perfect for you! However, wolf children has another layer to it that ponpoko doesn't have: it also tackles the question of whether or not the two children, Ame and yuki, are human or wolf. This makes wolf children more complex, and can be better appreciated by an older audience.

While watching Wolf Children, I was often times reminded of the old Anime Jungle Book Shounen Mowgli. Not only because of the similar topics (albeit in reverse settings), but because it deals with the same struggle that Ame and Yuki go through, which is finding their place in the world, a topic which Wolf Children only seemed to brush, while Junglebook highlights this theme. In the Junglebook anime, Mowgli's struggle between finding his place among humans or among nature is very lovingly illustrated. And while Junglebook is not as much an Eyecandy as Wolf Children is, it is still a very awesome series to watch.
