Mamoru Hosoda is a master at playing heartstrings, and both of these tales of family, connection, bonding, and intimacy are underscored by their raw beauty and emotional density.

Family. Wolf Children and Mirai both follow children who are ignorant of their surroundings and only think about themselves. Though in time, they grow and realise their past mistakes. Though not the most similar in anything other than those terms. They are still bringing the most out of it.
Both are good anime movies made by the same studio; Studio Chizu. And the same director; Mamoru Hosoda.

Mirai was not only developed by the same studio, but both films share similar themes.

- Both feature families with two children and parent(s) who are struggling to balance raising them with their other responsibilities
- Both focus on the children’s struggles growing up with changes in their lives
- Both feature fantasy / magical elements
- Both involve several time skips (albeit for different reasons)
- Both are very touching, particularly towards the end
- Both are stand-alone films requiring no prior watching
