Summer break arrives, and this is also the start of the Astronomy Club's first rodeo of the main activity: meteor shower viewing party.

Nakami and Ukegawa's plan to host the party got the green light, and they're all off to a good start, having lunch and sharing over their talents...with Magari's one being that she memorized the entire "My Neighbour Totoro". The promotion out on the streets, and Anamizu has to strike at Kanikawa for snacks lols. Both Nakami and Ukegawa being childhood friends, and he's quite the energetic child until he became not. Everyone chimes in on the help awaiting the day...except for one thing that they cannot predict: Mother Nature.

With the heavy torrential rain downpour, all they can do is to cancel the event after all of the work they did. And Nakami, still in a delusion, apologized to everyone and ran out in the rain, being the hardest hit. While on the way to the afterparty, they try to find Nakami, who could be stranded anywhere. And Magari found him still out of his mind, recording their radio chat at the same bus stop that they first had their nightly outing. The curse has rung true for Nakami, with circumstances that happened to ruin his plans at the very last minute. Magari's sudden confession caught Nakami off guard, and it looked as if both of them did the act that got Yui-senpai running out in denial.

Yui bringing them both back to the afterparty meeting and having to play with the two shrimp heads to describe Magari and Nakami's relationship to the denseness of Ukegawa, what a feeling that is lols.

Sure the radio idea went well, but there was something else which needed the focus right now, and it was prepping up for the meteor shower viewing party. Being the club of only two members it was, it’d have been a hurdle getting the acceptance of the supreme figure of japanese highschools, that is student council president, but guess that didn’t really pose a problem in the end. They got the permission for the meteor shower viewing party, and heck even for using the premises of school while being at that.

Got the people helping you around, got the boradings to guide the general public to the school ready.. and then boom… a sudden DOWNPOUR on the d-day. Just thinking back how much these people put effort into making this event a success, how much Nakami worked for it, it was just inevitable when we saw him getting so down and running right into the storm.. for reasons, well we know why.

Isaki chasing after Nakami, confronting him, and telling him he’s always been special to her since they met… at that place where it all started, that bus stand. We were this close.. this close to something along the lines of confession, but hey that’ll have to wait. For now, atleast clear the misunderstanding with senpai lol. Loved her reaction.

They changed it a bit to how it was in the source, probably just to get that scene of Nakami and Isaki in this episode, but it works fine anyways.

Hey, i can touch my elbows together, im special too.

Anyway, the summer break is about to start eh, good on them kids, having a good break from all the anxiety of school, anxiety of knowing if the viewing party turns good, anxiety to know if the girl i like, like me too ... anxiety for us, the viewers to know what is wrong with Magari ... anxiety from thinking you failed ...

... anxiety to not be able to sleep :)

Also, i bet there is much sadder story behind the shoe, if you ever been in school, you know.

The rain was a huge bummer, such a shame. Poor Nakami, It's impressive how everyone else can still be so positive.
Even if she kinda ruined the moment, I love Shiromaru-senpai and her reactions.

Man no way that was a full 25 minutes! It blew by so quickly.

One door closes and another opens. We may not have got the meteor shower viewing party but we got something even better, Magari telling Nakami how important he is to her was so sweet! We were this close to a proper confession, but it’s all good, we can wait a little longer. At least both of them kinda know what’s up now.

This episode kinda got me thinking Ganta’s insomnia stems from his desire to control things that he can’t. Like based on the fact we never see his mom, I’m guessing she’s dead and he blames himself for that. So the meteor shower party getting cancelled was triggering for him. Like the way he looked when Magari finally caught up to him was so broken and sad.

S/O to sensei for treating the whole club to some food after the disappointment. Real MVP

Awwww... Yui-senpai, they were gonna kiss.
Poor Ganta. But, honestly, I really don't understand him at all. The event was canceled because of the rain, it's an uncontrollable factor like the weather condition. You shouldn't blame yourself for an uncontrollable condition like this. It wasn't your own fault at all. No one can control rain.

What a god damn episode, that hit hard seeing Ganta genuinely smile like that and then what transpired after. Best one so far.

- Eat corn fast
- Kanji reading and writing with ''fish'' on the left
- Ride a unicycle anywhere
- Sense a magnitude 1 earthquake
- Hyper speed blinking
- Eyeball relay race

I'm wondering if Ganta's mom either passed away or had a divorce as there was another flashback with him as a kid with his mom (I don't recall if that has been brought up). If so I think he is blaming himself for that and with the rain cancelling his plans it was too much.

For a minute I thought that they both kissed but Yui coming in lol. Yui seems to interrupt at the most inopportune times but I think a kiss will happen soon. Funny how Yui used crawfish to describe their relationship to the guy sitting at their table. Props for the teacher treating the students to a dinner despite the meteor shower event cancellation.

Separation anxiety is a thing. It’s pretty clear he feels he is to blame for his family situation and can’t help but try and be better

This show has been such a pleasant surprise. It is clear the source material is pretty good (it seems highly regarded, and I think the characters, story, etc. seem really well actualized), but I think the production values are consistently better than I expected. The animation is nice, the OST fits really well, the story is well paced, etc. I could be be wrong, but this seems a lot more consistent than other fare from LINDENFILMS (which has produced some shows I like but not is really known for its excellence).

I wish anime/manga would stop using the "Moment Killer" trope so much. Now we'll have another 5 episodes of them just ignoring/being awkward about what happened so that maybe they'll end up confessing on the last episode. I'm so tired of this pattern.

The new school semester starts. The club is using the classroom as their private hangout spot to eat their dinner and talk about skills they have, those were some impressive skills that they can do. Looks like everyone is excited for the meteor shower event. Ukegawa talks about how Nakami was a fast runner back in the day but got slower over the course.

Everything was going so smooth when Mother Nature struck and a storm came falling upon them and cancelling the show. Nakami in disbelief thinks that its all his fault since they worked so hard for it and says that he will go the station to give out more papers and runs off. Magari & Yui start looking for Nakami but Yui has no luck but Magari spots him walking down the road all drenched, so she screams out to him and they both take shelter at the bus stop.

Magari & Nakami both start their live recording for their radio show and Magari tells how fast her heart was beating while they sat at the same place when they first where there. Magari & Nakami take cover when a bus stops and they are both blushing when we all thought that Magari would go in for a kiss but gets interrupted by Yui who finds them. All 3 of them finally make it back to the restaurant and Nakami apologizes while Yui takes 2 crabs and let them kiss each other while looking at Nakami and Magari lmfao. Wholesome episode.

Having a big plot event cancelled through higher forces is really unusual for a romance anime. So instead of having a emotional moment at the peak of this event, it happened because it was cancelled.
That's very refreshing to see.

You should definitely give the manga a read! It has a good amount of content both for the main and side characters that unfortunately is being cut to make the story fit the episode count, both are great!

Not a bad idea! I very well might pick up manga after the series has completed since I am always curious about how things are adapted. My biggest concern is that I can easily get sucked into manga and end up reading a head of anime, irrevocably changing the experience watching the show. (Its not better or worse to have read the manga first, per se, but it does changes one's perspective and expectations quite a bit.)

Ganta feels like a kid with a trauma. His mom. Probably he feels responsible for her death, right? She's gone, right? I don't think we had a clear answer yet, only the implications - show don't tell!

Awesome romantic development here too :)

Well, I guess the meteor shower must be delayed to another day... how unfortunate.

With everyone looking forward to the meteor shower, the one thing that can't be controlled is Mother Nature, and it was tough to see everyone's work go to waste here. Nakami took it pretty hard, took all the blame, and ran out into the rain in tears and despair. Good thing the people around him care for him quite a bit, and looked for him in the heavy rain. Eventually, Magari did end up finding him, and she kind of confessed to Nakami at the bus stop, at least admitted that he was special to her. Props to sensei for treating everyone to dinner though to lift their spirits up after.

My feelings toward the episode are a bit mixed however, as this just seemed like drama for the sake of drama. I understand that Nakami has had some issues in the past, and potentially a sad childhood, but the drama just seemed a bit overblown to me.

Mother Nature is about to become one of the worst anime moms if she keeps this shit up lol, jokes aside I saw this coming but it was still damn disappointing to see, so much prep went into the meteor shower viewing party only for it to get rained out, all of Isaki’s friends were in on it and one even had a hot date planned but nah, rain said no lol.

But, all that being said, that scene between Isaki and Ganta at the bus stop was phenomenal, probably one of my favorite scenes of the show so far, after Ganta was brought back to his senses I couldn’t stop smiling. They were busted by Shiromaru sadly but it resulted in that cute final scene with the shrimp so I don’t mind it so much, it was especially funny how she bolted out of there as fast as she could upon seeing them lol. Also nice to see the original ED back, it’s too good to change it permanently imo.

This Anime has been the most delightful surprise for me this season. From such a simple (albeit odd) premise such a wonderful story is being developed. Nakami and Magari are really rich and authentic characters, I love them. As someone who has dealt with his fair share of mental health issues, I can totally relate to Nakami. Like him, I've struggled but have had the good Fortune to have met the most amazing people who helped me along the way

it sucks the meteor shower viewing party wasn't able to happen because of the weather. although that moment at the bus station was nice, so there was still something good to come out of it. ganta and isaki are so cute together. a shame the confession/kiss scene got interrupted, but i think it should be pretty clear to them how they feel about eachother now.

hoping the next attempt at a meteor viewing party will go off without any problems and that we'll be able to see it. also maybe another cute moment during it?

yui making the shrimp heads kiss was really funny. and everyone else but the three of them were none the wiser, lol

I want to see Nakami's back story. Him being insomniac was caused by something tragic/sad I guess. You can guess it the way he reacted when it rained and ruined their plan.

Great episode, definitely one of my favorites so far. I'm sure everyone can relate to Ganta, at least to a certain extent - when you try your hardest to make sure everything works out well for a certain project/event, yet something comes along that's completely out of your control and ruins it all. Sad that it happened for such a big event and that Ganta pins the blame all on himself, but the way Magari comforted him was beautiful. Also shout out to the nurse for treating them to dinner to cheer them up. If there's one thing I gotta say I dislike about this show, it's the brown twin pigtailed girl. I mean yeah it kinda explained why she's like that and there's always gotta be that one loud-mouthed person in the group, but for me she's just super annoying and not funny. The way she laughed about Ganta for not replacing his old shoes and wrote it off as him being a weirdo when there's probably a good reason for it was super insensitive. There are multiple times in this show where I just want to slap her.

I like how they adapted chapters 31 to 35 of the manga for this episode.
They also added some few parts to foreshadow the true roots of Ganta's insomnia.

We have Isaki to thank for re-uplifting Ganta by dropping a rizz out of nowhere.

I was only scoring this episode a 4/5 but because of Shiromaru, it now deserves a 5.

I haven’t read the manga but they keep dropping subliminal hints about Isaki Magari. If this turns out like “Your lie…”, I’m going to be very disappointed.

Incredible story though. Thanks for the tip. I’ll look into to reading it. 👍

Watching the previous episodes, this almost feels parody like. What an embarrassing episode.

I thought I was the only one who ate corn on the cob like that. For that one brief moment, I'm not sure I've ever related to an anime character more.

It was tough seeing Ganta being so hard on himself.

I'd hate to be one of those guys, but its mostly due to the subpar adaptation and the fact that it is finally starting to show.
