Hey now
Hey, I’m a guy that watches a lot of anime, and I really like this site because it allows me to keep track of it all, what a great thing it is lol. You may see me in discussion boards of seasonal anime spanning from Fall 2020 to whenever you’re reading this, with the occasional older anime I type up posts for, and you might be able to tell from those that I generally rate a lot of anime kinda highly, I’ve only given a handful of low scores ranging 6 or below because I typically watch things I think I’ll like, and I usually end up liking them lol.
My favorite genres of anime are RomComs and SoLs (as you can tell from my favorites) and I also have a soft spot for harem anime due to my upbringing with anime (started with To Love-Ru and it has been a favorite ever since) but I’ve expanded my tastes a lot over the years so I can watch and enjoy most genres, and there’s a good amount of Isekais and Shonens I’ve found myself loving, so yeah I like a lot of different anime lol.
You might also catch me making music references in my forum posts, especially the Grateful Dead lol, love trying to find ways to squeeze them in somewhere.
Also finally decided to plug this after so long, here’s my YouTube channel which atm has nothing to do with anime and is mostly a gaming channel: https://youtube.com/@DirtsteveGAME

"watching a show weekly is a pretty different experience than watching a show after it ended" true that. Forgot you don't bingewatch, then it's more stressful for you, worrying not to skip a seasonal. And the discussions too, hard to be in the cycle of discussion after something ended. But just to let you know, if you ever watch some of my favorites, i'm always there, haha. My favorite is everything with 9 or 10 or if it's a novel I read.
Learning Japanse isn't that hard. Maybe because I've heard some of the words in the anime already, subconsciously my mind remembers them. Or maybe my memory isn't that bad. Obviously some words I actually remember, but some, I don't know, but maybe I've heard them before.
The only hurdle about Japanese is that, unlike other languages where you just need to learn a pronunciation and the meaning in your language. like ugoku = move, as long as you remember it you are good... since you already know the alphabet and know how to write that down... but in Japanese there are some ominous things called kanjis, that you also need to memorize... And you also need to memorize it in a way, that you not only recognize it from a shape after you see it, but you need to write it from memory. Like if I wanna say "I draw really well" can I write the draw kanji from memory? Sure you can look it up, but what if you are writing a letter, are you gonna search up every character? But it's fun, it's even more fun than playing games, cause in a way it's also a game. The more challenging the game, the better. (If you watched Ajin, you'd recognize the reference lol)
"Season 2 of “The Devil is a Part-Timer”" Yeah, I've heard about it, but don't know much deeper than that. But I think there is a long gap between seasons, so probablyp production changed, different teams do things differently, especially if a director changed. I don't about Ishura, but I doubt production changed much, but who knows. Yeah it got even better, but I doubt the team changed, they just had more budget... Also, I'm pretty sure that season 2 was already agreed upon, way before season 1. But they took a 1 year break. I think they usually agree for 24 episodes, but since it's too exhausting to make 24 episodes every week, they make it in cours.
I think there was some isekai a year ago, that got a second season announcement right after, and then season 3 after season 2, that's rare... I wonder if they agreed for 3 seasons. If I remember correclly, 3 season is already over, even though first season came out like a year ago.
You should check out 7 Spellblades, yes. Volume 1 ends at ep 6, you should like it by then. But every ep is amazing. The author has a lot of interseting ideas. Like Ishura(different ideas, but whether his own ideas, or influenced by someone). Whenever I read I usually write down the ideas down in a notepad on my phone... everyone that I found interesting. Ishura and Spellblades are leading right now... I'll make a quick comparison... wait a bit... Ok, so Ishura has 40... but I ended after Toroa's introduction chapter... Usually the most ideas are presented in the first volume, like visitor and stuff, after that you just see what author does with those ideas. It's execution time then. But spellablades has 68!!! and it never ended at volume 1 lol. Even though Spellblades uses a Harry Potter theme. Never watched it, but the ideas that were in Harry Potter appeared in many later medias, so I appreciate it. But 7 Spellblades is not a copycat. It just took an inspiration. One thing that they took from there, that I wish they didn't.... and one part I hate the most about Spellblades is .... guess ... it's broom riding ... especially the broom riding competition... god... Well, you won't see it in the anime, it was more for volume 4 and volume 6 that has a huge chunk of the volume dedicated to just that. I stopped on volume 6 at that part. Seeing broomriding covered for like 80 pages made me lose motivation lol. I don't skip, cause then I can't say that I finished the volume, and then what if I miss some cool scenes, but I really wish to skip it... I'll still try to read it slow, try to imagine everything, do it properly. It reminded me with One Piece, back when I was watching, I left on some uninteresting part and left for the day. And then I was either busy with life, I don't remember, but my link was broken and whenever I thought about watching it again, I'd remember that I left on an unteresting part, and I'm too lazy to watch it. Similar things happened with some other animes, but if it ends on a cliffhanger and I'm really curious what's gonna happen next, I'll jump on that episode the first thing it comes out.
Oh, another interesting part about Spellblades is that MC is really weak and has to work really hard, but even then he doesn't become OP (like in real life. I swear I hate animes that make hard work seem like it can overcome talent. Like this one https://myanimelist.net/anime/57058/Ore_wa_Subete_wo_Parry_suru__Gyaku_Kanchigai_no_Sekai_Saikyou_wa_Boukensha_ni_Naritai or this one https://myanimelist.net/anime/54913/Shinmai_Ossan_Boukensha_Saikyou_Party_ni_Shinu_hodo_Kitaerarete_Muteki_ni_Naru)
But MC can become really strong, by sacrificing his lifespan and getting into a very dangerous life and death situation, by using his mom's spellblade that destroys his body. You might say "well, just use it" but if you saw what it does to his body, you wouldn't think that. I honestly have never felt sadder than about MC. Really sad, helpless life.
All that talk about Spellblades made me crave it again... I have 6 volumes to read, lots to look forward to.
Never heard of these 2 chinese animes you've watched, doesn't look that interesting from the synopsis or the images
"True Demon King does sound interesting, I imagine he’d be a bastard if he was the “true” one so I look forward to seeing if he fits that name." yeah...
"And yeah I bet it is tough to see the action in your head for books, especially in a series like Ishura wish such crazy powers and weapons" Toroa and Psianop and Alus are hard. Psianop is hard to picture, but Toroa and Alus has so many items and weapons, You need to imagine how they look and what they do. Especially Toroa's swords are really hard. The easiest ones are Ketelk (extends the range), Divine Lance of Faina (shield that blocks a fast projectile), Nel Tseu the Burning blade(just burns, easy), everything else was really hard, I'm glad anime adapts his fight, I'll at least see every sword in action, but I kinda feel like I'm cheating
"And yeah I wouldn’t want to live in their world lol, living in fear that some mad scientist’s invention will turn me into vapor or a vampire is gonna make me kill my family just by being next to her once" yeah, just imagining it makes me feel uneasy. Made me remember Inglis squire (https://myanimelist.net/manga/125038/Eiyuuou_Bu_wo_Kiwameru_Tame_Tenseisu__Soshite_Sekai_Saikyou_no_Minarai_Kishi%E2%99%80)
I actually read the more of that novel then Ishura lol, but it feels like I've spent so much more time with Ishura... Anyway in that world (also has a lot of good ideas, hence why I read) the rain can cause animals to become monsters... which in turn kill you, which is a ridicilous world to live in... a fucking rain lol, magical rain but still.
Glad you liked the visuals. Yeah look forward to Kazuki next episode, another visitor. And Morio the Sentinel the leader of Free city of Okafu, who is also a visitor... 3rd volume is more about Visitors than any other volume. Already next episode, we'll learn a lot of information about them (unless they skip it, but nah, no way they do, it's such a reveal). Carmen Sandiego? I've searched it up, I guess... I can see the resemblance lol.
I remember reading Kazuki's fight, it was kinda stupid, like with Psianop, the way she fights... too unrealistic, like some kind of John Wick lol. Also I reread her part multiple times and I still couldn't understand why she attacked Okafu, if you want to contact Morio, just ask him directly.... or you think he will meet you if you kill his men? Don't know if that's much of a spoiler, I don't think it would change anything for you.
I know you probably have liked the episode, but it was my least favorite one. Lucunoca's part is fine, but not my favorite. While Psianop is my least favorite and they even rushed his part and skipped some parts I liked, like the 2 lycans actually had a master who Psianop killed, and they discovered him. They also discoverd many warriors etiher unconscious or struggling to breathe (that was shown), but they didn't show the extent of the wounds, like "limbs being bent at a weird direction" or "smashed into the wall". And it made you wonder, "who could be so powerful, that he destroyed everything. Could it be an explosion?" But in the anime they just jumped to Psianop straight away, no prelude, no anticipation. Psianop vs Neft was one of my least favorite fight (as any Psianop fights cause he is a stupid character). Yeah, if you wanna know why I really dislike him, its because his strengths is not fun, I really don't like how he can just read all of your moves before you even made them. Don't know if it makes sense. I really hope Shalk pierces him with a spear with his extraordinary speed, so fast that Psianop won't react... but they are in opposite bracket, and can only meet in final.
Then because he is a slime, it's hard to see his moves and he moves weirdly, like someone mentioned, in martial arts you have muscles, bones, you can't just move your limbs in whatever way you want, but he can... also his punches packs a force, while he has no muscle.... Yeah... all of that makes no sense to me, so I really really don't like his concept.
Everyone else is like:
1)Shalk - super fast, makes sense
2)Mestelexil - immortal and can create anything because of his knowledge from the Beyond with Craft Arts, the way it was explained, made sense.
3)Alus - just flies around, being really fast, but not as fast as Shalk, and uses his legendary items, makes sense
4)Lucunoca - uses the unknown Winter Arts, the only user of it, makes sense
5)Kuze - an invisible angel of death, makes sense
6)Kia - omnipotent, makes sense
7)Rosclay - obviously makes sense
8)Soujirou - another one who makes little sense, the idea is that his warrior sense lets him see opponent weaknesses... That made no sense with Nihilo.
9)Kuuro - similar to Soujirou, but at least it makes sense since he is using his Clairvoyance which enchances all of his senses.
No wonder I dislike Soujirou and Psianop the most, the cockiest, most annoying, with the ability that makes the least sense. Now, if I just was anime-only, I don't know. I'd still hate Soujirou, but I don't know about Psianop.
One more thing they missed from the Psianop part that I liked is that lycan tribe is a tribe of warriors that value martial prowess over anything. They attacked people simply to practice their skills. They also kinda poorly explained the library and its infinite well of knowledge. I thought Toroa's adaptation was the worst, but at least it wasn't rushed. Psianop's adaptation was definitely worse, only used like 9 minutes too... If you noticed we even skipped the ED... But I'm not hurt by it, since that's the part I liked the least.... But if they screw up Uhak, Tu or Kazuki, i'll be pissed :v Basically 3 next parts, that's the part I care for the most, especially Tu.
Uhak is next episode and Kazuki too and her war against Free city of Okahu. I wonder if many people will like Uhak. He is probably the most unusual character and had the most unusual way his story was told(like I mentioned, with first person)
Btw, the anime production dropped this teaser, I'm pretty excited. Rique and Krafnir look sick, some of my favorite characters
https://ishura-anime.com/assets/top/t1/vis8.webp
Btw, speaking of Lucunoca, she is legendary, right. But I think Mele would beat her, definitely the character he can build, he can also beat Alus, Toroa, Mestelexil But someone like Soujirou, Psianop, Kuze would be a problem for him. Meanwhile I don't see Lucunoca losing to Soujirou or Psianop...
It could be fun to speculate on the matchups, if you want, i'm Interested to know about your opinion.
Also it's kinda funny that the author made a reference to a "I got kicked out from my party" meme referencing Psianop https://imgur.com/9hwRPWe
If you think you are missing out on something, you can always come back to it later, after you see it's final score/hear good things about it. No reason to be stressed out, I picked out some of my faves like that, after the season long ended.
No, I'd stop during the episode, and read ahead, then watch the part and my short term memory still holds the information. And, I mean why not? It's very intersting to see how they adapted, what they decided to skip, what they actually included... This stuff... is interesting for me.
"and it’s great to hear Rosclay’s part was so well adapted." yeah, it was...
Yeah, hopefully I'll check out Goblin Slayer... eventually. Lol, once I started learning japanese, I started to realize that I can't tell if the wording is hard based on translation. Like there is a word wear, you can say he wears a mantle, and there is a word clad, you can say he was clad in a mantle. Or the word remnants. Remannts of war. But there is also a pretty unusual word like "vestiges". Vestiges of war. Many examples like that of less common synonyms used, and I used to think that the author must have a really great vocabulary. And just today I learned that in japanese, there are different words for "wear". and each wear has its specific use, like kiru for upper body, haku for below the waist, kaburu for hats, etc... So, from what I understood. The author must have used the normal word "kiru" and it's the translator who used synonyms for a word wear. But I've only been studying for a month, and there is still a lot left to learn.
The thing with Spellblades anime, while its great (not as good as Ishura), but overall a pretty good adaptation, at least story parts didn't get skipped, like in some other adaptations. But the problem here is with the source... Volume 2, 3 are pretty bad, not that bad, but not as good as what the first volume showed. Not sure if you encountered it before, but sometimes stories get really good at a certain point, like has a really banger arc, like it's a culmination of all things, but then it slows down. It's not like the author doesn't know what he is doing, it's either a buildup before another banger arc or just a slightly less interesting arc but still important to the story. Hard to compare it to Ishura, cause everything in Ishura is interesting. Anyway, volume 2 and 3 in spellblades were necessary, but not very interesting, probably that's why the score is on a lower side. But both spellblades and Ishura are equally important to me at this moment...
Here is the OP btw, pretty hype https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2aICwCMw68
Here is the thing about Chinese anime and novels(well I only picked up one novel). Humor is too off-putting, it's always so werid. "people laugh at this?" And all stories that I've seen are about an OP MC, that no one can match, and usually everyone underestimates him, and then he destroys them and everyone is impressed. And overall I just dislike chinese stories. I read a lot of Korean stuff as well and it has many problems, but I got some stuff that I like, soms stuff is not bad. What chinese stuff do you recommend tho?
"Oh I didn’t realize Soujirou is the only visitor in the tournament, I thought there would be more since that’s one of the unique parts of the show"
It is unusual. Strength wise. So far, the only worthy of being in a tournament is Kazuki The Black Tone, but next episode for her. And Yugo from the First Party, but he's dead. Actually, if you think about it, there is Mestelexil's core who is a visistor, if it counts...
There are some bad mathups, true. Like Mestelexil for Kuze or Shalk for Kia.
Just so you know, the season 3, if it comes out, will only cover the first round of matches. It's not just about the tournament, there is a lot of other stuff going on. And volume 8 only covered one match of the second round, but it was a big match, lots of buildup for it. Well, I haven't read that volume tho... I didn't want to mention on mal, what if it causes others to drop it lol. I think those who just want the tournament, think that it will end in a few episodes lol, little did they know...
Yeah, obviously watching the journalist for 2 min every episode, is not the same as reading 10 pages, trying to imagine the scene and all that.
Yeah, exactly it doesn't feel rushed, good to hear it from you.
"Funny you mentioned Honey Lemon Soda as a comparison tho, I saw many saying the episode felt rushed but I didn’t feel it at all," that's crazy, I thought it was obvious, watching it.
Glad you liked Gilnes's part.
When I first read about Romzo, I thought he was a big deal, being from a First Party and all. The point of First Party in the story is to make viewer realize how powerful the True Demon King was, if even that Party lost, that means the hero must have been really powerful. I wonder if you'll the True Demon King. Probably my least favorite character, most brutal and the least merciful. I hate Psianop with my guts, but at least he is not a straight up murderer, and tries not to kill his opponents.
" I have no idea what it’s like to see a book character go to the screen" it's pretty amazing. Not just the character, but the scene you are looking for. Or the location. Like I was curious about the Particle Storm's location, it was a bit hard to imagine. The sand labyrinth next episode too. But what I'm interested in the most is action, cause it's sure as heck hard to imagine it in your head while reading, especially Ishura, but chatgpt helps sometimes to imagine and understand it better. But I feel like the action changes in the anime(it's not a bad thing). Like the sequence of moves. I like it in anime overall. I wonder how Toroa's tournament match gets adapted though, it was very very difficult to imagine it in the novel. Especially when he threw 4 blades at his opponent, in the novel all of the blades were named, I wonder if they'd do the same in the anime.
"I picked up that Rosclay was good at heart from what we got," that was the point of that scene, to humazine him, yeah.
"he’s a cheater but he’s a cheater for a reason, but yeah more details there would have made it better." There is a reason though, not sure if I understood it from his story, or was it later in later volumes, but I realized that Rosclay and his faction wants him to win, so he can become a new hero in this new age, giving people hope. "No need to fear Rosclay is here. No shura is scary for us". And this way they don't have to rely on an uncontrollable Shura, like Lucunoca. Like Hidow later is gonna say, "why did you bring her here? She doesn't like minas, she has no problems burning down settlements". Shuras are too scary, imagine us being scared of them, now imagine living here lol.
"I thought they mentioned at one part that Mele’s village was in the way of the Particle Storm’s path but maybe I’m misremembering" you aren't, the generals did say that, but it was Jelki who made that up to get Mele involved, Kayon, the general who went there, I think is also from that same village so he knows Mele. And he was the one who told him about the Particle Storm. That part with Kayon and Mele wasn't shown, but I can conclude that that's what happened.
Toroa kinda had the most scenes, after Kuuro, cool right? and he'll have even more, cause his match is in this volume... His match is soon, cause Auretia wants him to lose quickly and lose the swords in the process(or at least that's Toroa thinks, might not be true)
Glad you enjoy the posts. I felt bad that I made you read my slob I wrote starting from my overview of the last episode. I felt bad, "why did I write it like this"
Glad you liked the art, here is more.
Kazuki
There's nothing left :( I wish there were more from volume 3. But only Psianop and Kazuki :(
No, if anything your approach is more commendable, I wish I'd be the same, my discipline is lacking. I did watch some animes on the same days as they came out, but a lot of days I didn't feel like watching, but forced myself to. Right now I only have Ishura, and I still have to stay put around the time the episode comes out, cause I'm trying to watch it asap... This episode 6 took me a lot longer, since Rosclay's story is the one part I remember the least about in details... I only read his part once, for everything else I remember most of it, so I know what they skipped, even the dialogues. So, i read while watching, and his part... I actually like it a lot more, but that's because the adaptation was just terrific.
Kinda criminal not having watch Charlotte lol. But I haven't watched Darling in Franxx, so I'm not the one to speak... Still, Charlotte is Charlotte. Tbh though, it had a bad ending, or unsatisfying one, and just like other Jun Maeda works, it always feels incomplete and never get a second season. But while it was airing, it was very hype.
Yeah, Golden Kamuy is one of the ones I meant to watch, one day...
Nice to know that you watched ZombieLand Saga and Release the Spyce... Goblin Slayer huh... Not sure what to think about it. I'm sure it would be fun to read. But I already have Ishura, Index and spellblades and alderamin. I wanna focus on them. It's hard... I was into spellblades and alderamin (same author btw, I only read alderamin because I wanted to see how the author's writing progressed, what would be similar and stuff. I know I am reading a translation by 2 different people with different language skills, but still... It's like they are entirely different and written by different authors. It's amazing...).
But then Ishura s2 was releasing, so I had to get back to Ishura. I probably like Ishura more than those 2 now, and won't come back to them until I catch up. The problem is... one volume takes me way too long, not to mention that I also reread it later and it doesn't help that the volume is TWICE as long. So it's like 16 volumes not 8, and if you take rereading, then it's 32 volumes hahahahahaha. I'll never get to spellblades again :v I ended on a 5th volume, which in my opinion was probably the best volume of any novels I've consumed. There wasn't a single bad moment about it. Spellblades and Alderamin... Bokuto Uno is a really really good author.
Oof, sidetracked a bit. Your friend that went on rant about Radiant being bad... I'd understand if it was about s1, s2 was miles better. And it's not really about "oh it just needed time to cook" I am a person who enjoys buildup a lot more than action, earlier chapters a lot more than later ones and Radiant was just bad... quality bad, but author got better ideas in s2, honestly I wish I didn't know the author is French, maybe I'm a bit prejudiced about it... thinking only japanese make good stories. But he is french and made a good story. In all non-japanese stories, from what I remember, MC always hooks up with someone and has sex. It makes it extremely obvious and very forced at times, like 2 characters have no synergy whatsoever, yet they still for that trope, it's not only just that, primarily the story execution itself isn't really good and a lot of cultural things(not sure how to explain it), anyway I'm more into japanese things. But I am reading a Canadian Novel, Malazan, but only because I heard that it's similar to Ishura, it's been pretty good so far, so maybe I should give more novels a try... But TV shows, no way.
Yeah... big mystery, it's probably because I don't really check many comments, except for Ishura where I check once o twice a day lol. I even started /r/anime for the first time in many years. And it was very satisfying, especially ep 5. There were so many posts about their rankings, who they think is strong, who they think will win and everything else related to power rankings. Noone really talks about power rankings on mal, and it was one thing I'm extremely excited about and wanted to hear more about it. It's nice to see.... Btw, one guy mentioned Kia, Mestelexil and Linaris as top 3, and I said he forgot Shalk, and he called him mid... Shalk mid....
"And lol yeah sorry I kinda like Soujirou, he’s just likable to me," That's fine... He does have likable moments... when the doesn't fight. Yeah, many people, including me, view him as MC, because he was first. That's why I have a bad feeling that he's gonna win it all. He is also the only Visitor in the tournament and Japanese... and I know how biased some authors are towards it.... But some japanese Visitors, like Dakai were still killed.
But I must say, pretty much everything is very unpredictable, the tournament too, there's like 100s different scenarios that can happen and would make sense. Take Alus and Toroa even, Toroa can win, it would be acceptable and even "obvious" to some people, Alus can win and it would also be "obvious" to some people. Oh, it was obvious he would win, I knew it all along. Oh yeah, sure you did... Or Soujirou Shalk matchup. A rematch from s1, who is stronger? If Shalk wins, then wow he is too fast even for a warrior like Soujirou, if Soujirou wins then, wow even Shalk's speed is not enough for someone with Soujirou's skills. Or if Kia fights Shalk. Yes Kia is omnipotent, but what if Shalk closes in faster than she can say a word. (There was actually a scene like that in season 1, back when Shalk "saved" Kia and Elea from bandits. Elea wondered, if she were to order Kia, would she be faster than his spear or not).
Mele vs Rosclay would be cool too. Cause one kid was saying he was no match to Rosclay and both outcomes would be fun.
What I meant to say is that author really cooked up something good lol, he basically can't fail with this tournament. Like how you work really hard when you are young, and then enjoy the fruits of your effort in the old age.
Same with who the True Hero is (and we'll talk about it later) is True Hero amongst the participants or not? is he dead or not? is Demon King dead or not? Who is Shalk? is he perhaps the Hero?
So many intersting plot points, and nothing really is obvious. But ofcourse there will be people who will call it obvious, once it happens.
If you find something interesting that catches your attention in my thread, I would be curious to know what that is. Ep 6 was good, especially the Rosclay part, so it's easy to understand everything that happened. And unlike what I imagined, politics wasn't really glanced over and actually adapted.
Yeah, no shot journalist won't appear, probably around 2 min every episode. Because he always appears in between the character chapters. So Psianop, then the journalist, then Uhak, then the journalist again.
"it’ll probably be like The Witness from Destiny 2 or something, he’s a whole race of people in one guy for context lol" intersting....
Anyway let me go over the episode 6, because it was incredible! First of all, when I started it, I immediately jumped to the end, fully expecting to see Lucunoca... but I was so terrible surprised, I couldn't even feel any relief right away, because my mind just couldn't process it. It was that surprising, like every other adaptation would rush over the poltiics part, maybe skip Kiyazuna scene, Mizial Toroa scene, maybe even skip Rosclay, village girl scene, just so they can fit Lucunoca. And only because they are fixated on fitting volume 2 in 6 eps, and I would still understand it, because volume 3 is even larder and arguably more important because it talks about True demon King. I just really really couldn't believe it. We really got to appreciate it. Speaking of Ishura season 2, not a single time did I feel that it feels rushed, what about you? You can usually feel that something is rushed and some content is cut, like in Honey Lemon Soda's latest episode, you can tell it was rushed. Usually anime do that to be able to fit everything in 12 episodes.
You really have to sing praises for Ishura for the rest of your life lol... They had a near impossible job, to adapt 2 super huge volumes with lots of lore and buildup and poltiics, and being able to adapt this well.
I was surprised that they included that it's a duel and not an execution because Gilnes is considered as a hero by many. I expected either 1)we don't get any Gilnes's introduction and just get straght up to the duel 2) we get some introduction, that it's a duel, but not that he was considered as a hero and they couldn't just execute him.
One cool thing that they didn't mention in that first scene was Jelki saying "If you fear the power of Auretia's Second General, then feel free to come up with your best excuse and flee. Fortunately for you, we don't have time to chase after a pitiful loser such as yourself
But they included a scene about Gilnes being angry at Jelki referring to the queen, this actually wasn't in the novel, so an anime only scene. Not sure how to feel about it.
Another scene they added is kids playing outside, and one saying that he is Rosclay. I think this was a nice add, wish it was in the novel.
The merchant scene was unexpected, I didn't expect it to be adapted and that they showed Charijitsuya the Blasting Blade was replaced and Gilnes acknowledged that. I really expected them to skip all that and him starting with it from the start. And then people would deduce that he probably got the sword by Linaris's team in the background.
Then Romzo's scene blew my mind, it was really well adapted. First of all his character design... I've never seen him in the novel, so that was amazing to see him and hear his voice, because that's not what I expected, but it makes so much sense, how didn't I imagine that earlier. They even showed Romzo knocking down the guard, I thought anime would not include that someone was keeping an eye on Gilnes.
Then I didn't explain to actually see Romzo's party so soon, we've seen everyone's design. Alena, Izick, Neft, Yugo. Likewise, I've never seen them in the novel, so seeing them now was interesting. Some characters designs blew my mind, I didn't expect them to look like this. But it's all greatness. To be honest, it's an undescribable feeling to a character's design aftter just reading about them.
Then there were a lot of moments that Gilnes explained through first person, while in anime it was author explaining, like about the First party. Usually, when it's author's explanation, it gets skipped. And I skipped it to be skipped here too, because First Party was gonna appear more in s3, starting next episode, so I expected them skipping it here, because it was gonna mention anyway, but it was so nice of them to mention it this episode, to show it earlier, make people more excited and explain right away that Romzo is from First Party.
Then the duel adaptation was to my liking, especially because we heard Gilnes's thought process. I didn't think they would do it.
Rosclay's fighting was also something I really liked to see (this I actually expected them to adapt well), the rotating swords around him was cool to see animated.
The duel was a bit longer in the novel, with more things happening, but it's fine, not a big deal.
Seeing, old kingdom loyalists in the audience was cool, especially how they looked, all secretive.
i didn't expect them to adapt Rosclay saying how he gave him a chance to surrender but he didn't take it and to ask for unity.... This was important to include because Gilnes had a lot of followers, and Rosclay winning the duel, wanted to unite everyone. But like always, anime usually skips the poltiics stuff, and if they did, not much would have changed... but so happy that they adapted all the politics stuff, really rare.
The scene with a village girl was really girl, except one part that he saved her and her mother from potential slavery. Would be good to show others that he is an honorable knight, also considering some were mistaking that vilage girl as his sister........ just because she called him nii-san.
But the scene was great, especially the ring part, I liked how it shined and all.
For other scenes, they were good and I'm 95% happy, but still some dialogues were cut, could've been better, but Rosclay part was so good and it was a highlight of the episode, way more important, so I'd rather them focus on that and use more time there. One thing I wish they included no matter what is that final scene with Jelki and Rosclay (which was actually before Toroa/Kuuro and other characters) where they mention how thanks to Kuuro reporting they know information on Toroa and Mestelexil's fighting abilities and most importantly, the part they had to adapt no matter what, was that they used Mele, by telling him that his village is under attack, which it wasn't, that was a big twist, in my opinion. That scene overall was around 50 seconds, while it was 10 pages in the novel. But at least Toroa scenes were all adapted :) Especially the "I'm not gonna be used by anyone".
One thing I like about the adaptation, is that all characters should be well understood, I was worried after ep 3 with Toroa's introduction, thinking he might be misunderstood, but all future scenes with him in later episodes made up for it.
Also Mele's scene with the paper sword, he actually really treasured it and it was the best reward he could've had for saving the village, but it wasn't really clear in the anime.
Toroa, Kuuro scene was done well, it was one of my favorite scenes, so I'm glad for it. Still crazy how someone like Toroa would be so caring to watch after someone while they sleep, especially considering Kuuro is a stranger, yet he looked after him.
Phew, that was long, way too long. Sorry, was a bit too excited over the episode, so excited that it stayed even 2 days after the episode ended. I'm also curious in your thoughts, I wrote your mal post, but it was generalized, good for mal, but I wouldn't mind hearing more.
Since Psianop is next episode, I'll drop one of the first images in the 3rd volume
and that's a cover image, cool right?
No no, I started seasonals on 2016, or 2015 to be exact, but I only watched 2 and I didn't know what seasonals were at that time. Charlotte was the one! Darling in Franx was 2018? ._. I feel old... So you got in at ep 8, interesting. Sometimes the anime I pick up late in the season are my favorites (like Wixoss), that's the only one I remember, but there are a lot more.
Golden Kamuy fan, huh. I haven't watched it though.
Yeaaaaaah! Fall 2018 was quite something. Special time in my life, and the seasonals were quite memorable. Zombieland Saga ofcourse, Karakuri Circus(but the manga), Akanesasu Shoujo, Release the Spyce and Radiant ofc, but season 1 was pretty bad. There's slime too and seishun buta. Yeah... amazing, very memorable season. Not to mention, Fairy tail and Index 3.
I can speak about every season if you want lol
"but it wouldn’t be till Fall 2020 that I’d make my first MAL post on an episode thread" wow you sure remember these things lol. So what made you break your fasting? lol.
"Winter 2021 was the start of me doing it consistently, and now here we are, I’m still doing it lol." How come I've never seen you? have you changed forum pfp? The consistency is insane btw. I often come and go, and mostly doing it only for animes I want to comment on. This time only on Ishura.
There https://myanimelist.net/forum/search?u=Hirugiku&q=&uloc=1&loc=-1
The fact that I can see Ishura s1 posts on my first page, ain't a good look for my forum activity lol.
I don't know if it's a burnout or a loss of interest. I usually read a lot more then, well, I'm reading quite a bit right now as well.
You? rooting for Sojirou? ... majide... I hate him so much, whenever his scene comes up, I groan in pain :v Luckily he doesn't appear much this season. At leat I get to see Yuno, but luckily she parts ways with him later. The more shura someone is, the less I like them. I want all of them to lose... But... if good guys win, then it becomes boring and bland, so it's a dillema. S1 was great because many good guys died. Also most characters in Ishura are neutral. Except for Particle Storm, I don't recall any truly evil ones. Maybe True Demon King too.
But if Toroa, Kia die, It'd be very hard for me to continue, not gonna lie. I still have Tu, the Magic at least, it's impossible for her to die. Once ep 9 airs, we can talk about favorites, and who you want to win. I can say it already, I don't mind any. There are so many scenarios that would make things intersting... Everything, except for Soujirou or Psianop winning, i'll take anything. Uhak the Silent winning would be the best.
I wouldn't say Ishura is unpopular, kinda? novel does have some exposure in JP, like it got 5th on some popularity ratings. But it's not for everyone, for sure.
Btw are you reading my thread about things missed? I'm not mentioning them in here, not to say the same thing twice.
Technically the war with Old kingdom Loyalists hasn't concluded, so the real ending should be ep 6 that wraps it. But... so little time was spent on it, that no wonder you didn't notice lol. Rosclay's part is the main wrapper to everything. Not to mention Toroa, Kuuro scene, Mestelexil, Kaete the Round Table scene. Toroa, Mizial the Iron Plumesheade scene, Mele with villagers scene. Btw expect a long post after ep 6, i'll mentione every scene that was skipped! I won't post them in my mal thread, cause who cares about a skipped scene. But it might be interesting for you, you did like the Alus, Hidow scene after all.
Yeah, they've been adapting so well so far, no need to assume it gets worse. And I already can tell you that Tu, The magic part would be adapted well, it's impossible to do badly on it. I'm curious on how Uhak's story is adapted, because it's the most unique one in Ishura. For the first time ever we get the first person story, from a grandma, on how she met Uhak and what Uhak is like. It's a very interseting and unique experience to say the least. I'm mainly curious would it be narrated from her voice or would it be like Sirok met Linaris.
Yeah, too bad about Linaris's remaining screen time, glad you aren't too upset about it. Well, Yukiharu the Twilight Diver(journalist) is being shown in the OP, and he is somewhat important, but I hate him.
Also there is a scene about one visitor who instead of defeating True Demon king, wanted to save them... with music, "saying noone tried" leaving Onozema speechless. It's a fun scene, but it's like 10 pages, I guess they can adapt it in under 2 min.
Speaking of Onozema, I'm curiosu on how he is gonna get adapted. because he speaks in capslock. The novel said that it's like multiple people are speaking at the same time.
It's like this
I'M ONOZEMA
I'M CHIMERA.
Krafnir the Hatch of Truth(another character I'm excited about). Also speaks in capslock, but it doesn't say that it's like multiple people speaking. So I wonder if it's gonna be a different kind of voice. But very unusual, never seen characters speak in capslock. It's kinda funny, especially when the dialogue is long. It feels like he 's screaming at you.
A lot of characters, but only 5 character card introductions. One major difference from other seasons, is that it introduces lots of minor characters that are also important.
" not sure how Mestelexil could craft modern weaponry like he does if not lol." wasn't it explained in the anime? His homunculus core is a scientist from the Beyond, who has seen a lot of stuff there.
But she only killed Atrazek because it failed her and she was afraid that it will be discovered through his blood that she vampires are still alive. But she originally set Atrazek on Auretia to cause as much destruction as possible, and that will cause a lot of innocent civilians to die/lose their homes. So she absolutely isn't a good person lol. But she's a really good person to her allies. But I get it... She is very very very very very pretty and cool, I get it. I really like her a lot and want the best for her, but that's cause she is pretty lol. I was amazed at how pretty she was made in the anime...
Btw, there is one character who meets her in volume 4 and there is a really cool line that I really really liked, something like "am I helping her cause she is really pretty? Would I do the same if that was done by an ogre or a goblin" I think it's a really good line, pretty face can do so much for you in life, so many things can be overlooked because of it.
I hope you have the best celebration :)
I've been watching seasonals since 2018, but lately I've been watching less and less. I used to watch around 30 shows per season as well. Last 2 seasons I watched around 15, also checking out mangas for them, but I skipped the last season almost in its entirety. I was too burned out, actually it's not the first time, I usually watch bi-seasonly, every 2 seasons. It was helpful that last season was the one I wasn't that much interested in. Seirei Gensouki s2 is my only darling there, but I can watch it later. I was instead reading a lot that season. This season, i'm interested in many things, but... buuuuut, I don't wanna watch too much, because whenever I do, my focus shifts. And I wanna focus on Ishura, so my excitement doesn't wain. Because once you watch something else that's interesting, and start getting into it, you start getting less excited for Ishura. I also have Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san. I started the novel a few months back actually, before I even knew that anime would come out, I was very surprised that it actually is airing this season.
So my point is, that you can get burned out, or at least I do.
"And I’m happy you respect my way of enjoying anime" not only respect, but like it as well.
Never thought of ED being a time machine, if anything I thought OP spoils more, and ED is like static images of usually the same characters, not showing anything related to the story, so not sure I agree with you.
Ishura had a good ED, but I take OP any day. Season 2 is a bit harder, both OP and ED are great, but I still take the OP, cause characters look way too cool.
Funny that in that carriage scene, gray-haired child was a scarier one, after seeing ep 5 especially, you might've realized that Toroa is pretty kind lol. I don't know if you can consider him a shura, shura from what I remember is a warrior that is consumed by battles, losing the attachment to the world, not caring about anything other than battles. I'd say, Soujirou is the most shura out of all of em(fucker, hope he loses :p), Alus, Kiyazuna and Mestelexil (I'd say both), Lucunoca, Kazuki the Black Tone, Linaris, gray-haired child and of course Psianop the slime, probably a bigger shura than even Soujirou. Also the warriro village in the Psianop episode, is also filled with Shuras, as they only care about battles.
You can argue Shalk too, but his main objective is to find out about himself, he doesn't kill indiscriminately.
Needless to say, all non-shuras are my favorite characters, but I actually started liking Kiyazuna and Mestelexil a bit more after the anime, but I already liked them from the novel.
"And yeah I really liked that Saiyuki ED" I liked it 7 years ago and listened the hell out of it, and 7 years later, nothing changed, I still love it, and the first 35 seconds ALWAYS make me hype.
There is also wild rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIY3kSsGsqE but might not be for everyone, its too loud too.
I actually got a bit excited and started slowly rewatching it, it's even more fun than I remember, but that's what usually happens when rewatching.
I haven't seen Yu Yu Hakusho myself, but of course I heard about it, just like you, so it's useless to recommend something already known, unless you think it's bad (which I can't even argue against, since I haven't watched it). Also, it might be too presumptous for me to say, since I haven't known you for long, but it does feel like I know you well, or at least I feel like you'll like the same stories I do, but that's maybe goes more to show that your taste is too broad.
"I usually just go release order for anything" you'd be correct doing that with Sayuuki!!!
Lol this time I didn't skip to the fight, cause the fight started right away, haha.
"but I couldn’t ever, I gotta have that full experience in the way it was intended." Of course, never do that. Not that you know when the fight starts or if it does. I'm not skipping anything else, there is nothing that i'm this excited about. Well, Kazuki and Tu the Magic, but they all appear in ep 8.
Glad you like the fight in ep4, I assume you liked ep 5 even more. Tbh, that was my most favorite fight. Volume 2 in general. But that's not the end of Volume 2!!!! There are still 100 pages left to adapt.(saw it in your latest post). It does feel like it's a conclusion, but it's not. Not only there should conclusion to Mele, Kiyazuna and Mestelexil, Toroa and Kuuro. There are also 2 important characters being introduced. And there is more politics, officials meeting, and most importantly the tournament is already mostly set. Like I said in the last message, that's where some characters are already mentioned as participants that we've yet to see.
And all of that is supposed to be adapted in 1 episode.... 100 pages for 1 ep... I'm pretty worried. And yes, they have to do 100 pages in 1 ep...somehow. Because vol3 is too dense with content 6 champion introductions = 3 episodes, meeting everyone = 1 ep, the tournament = 2 episodes.
EDIT: I thought about it some more, but they can do it. Rosclay's introduction is basically introduction to the tournament and more politics.
I think Linaris will appear once in one scene in later half of the season, otherwise we won't see her again this season :( Maybe if season3, we'll get to the absolute best Linaris moments, why I liked her originally and who she becomes friends with.
"what’s more interesting to me is learning what the characters are about" I agree, it's a bit different from vol1, where some unexpected things happened and we lost introduced characters. Vol1 is unique. Vol2 is unique. Vol3 is unique, there's no clear formula, except for character introductions.
"it’s kinda wild we still have so many characters" it is! vol3 has even more characters than vol 1 and 2. But most of them aren't participants, like Krafnir the Hatch of Truth or Yukiharu the journalist, one of the worst part of the Vol3 is the journalist, I swear, but maybe it'd be more intersting in the anime, tbh tho, hope THAT's the part that the anime skips, if they have to skip something. He is a journalist who tries to get to the bottom of the True Demon King's identity and whether they are still alive. Every vol3 character has something to do with the True Demon King, be it a location, like Uhak is at Alimo Row, that's near the Land of the End, the place where the True Demon King perished. I think it's fine mentioning, I doubt it'd be clear in the anime.
Rimuru? so you watched it huh... well Psianop is a martial artist, so I doubt that's what you were expecting.
I forgot to mention last time about your ep4 post. Kiyazuna had a machine gun, but it's a weapon she crafted in that moment with her incredible Craft Arts. Just like Atrazek the Particle Storm has probably the best Force Arts in the entire series, powerful enough to create a Particle Storm, Kiyazuna's Craft Arts rivals no one. One thing that might be confusing though, like how does it know of its existence, unless she got an idea from Mestelexil who creates similar weapons, that might be it.
Then about your ep 5 post, Linaris didn't really do the little girl any justice, she willingly sent her to her death, knowing full well what's gonna happen to her. She used a little girl for her own gains. I'm kinda upset they didn't fully animated the scene in the first episode, where she wrapped the wound on the girl's leg in a bandage. But I think I finally am starting to realize why they chose to skip it. In the novel that scene was before Linaris' introduction and it was incredibly vague, no indication that it was Linaris, except for the fact that she was followed by a zumeu(lizzard) harlequen, who you later see as one of Linaris's vanguard. That's how I originally realized it was Lianris. But in the anime, I don't see how they could make it vague, once people see Linaris's introduction, they'd piece the two things together, that she wrapped the wound in the same way as wih Sirok, and the girl got devoured by the Particle Storm, so Linaris might be behind it. So the plot twist wouldn't be that big, but in the anime it looked pretty unexpected.
Our opinions align when it comes to comments.
For anime, maybe you are right, but even skimming and reading fast, I doubt he finished 560 chapters in a few days. Unless he skipped chapters, which makes sense, that's how I'm reading one of the mangas, but I don't add it to my list, and I won't say "I completed it". I'm only reading the chapters where my favorite characters are. It's just a relaxation manga, and I'm not adding it, so I think it's fine.
So you are mostly doing it for appreciation/savoring? That's kinda what I expected. You should watch more seasonals then, it's literally was made for it lol. But I seriously respect that a lot, never thought I'd find someone with these beliefs. Most just want to watch as much as possible. Tbh, recommending to you something feels better than usual, cause I know you'll appreciate the anime. And same opinion on OP/ED. You like ED more because they are more melancholic? sad? Any specific ED you like more than the OP?
Ishura more gruesome, huh... interesting. Maybe you are right. Danganropa fun, huh.
Nice to know you like the politicians in Ishura. Yeah, free housing was weird. Btw that scene in the carriage was one of my favorites. I like how the anime made Toroa look huge in comparison to a small child, and yet he didn't feel fazed at all. That's very like novel, there was a line that mentioned that, glad they adapted it like that. The scene with the guard was great too. I wish they included what the guard said "you are far too suspicious to be let in"
You really liked it? ;-; you are probably the only one who said something positive about Saiyuuki on the first glance. Well, to be fair, I only recommended it once before, 7 years ago. And my friend at that time absolutely destroyed the idea, so I felt bad recommending it. But it was different back then, I was watching it back then, so I was more hyped. This time is different, it's been 7 years since I last watched it, I still remember it well and miss it. Well, to begin with, it has my favorite male character of all time, so of course it's still on my mind. But yeah, I name dropped it here, because I figured you probably never heard of it. I wouldn't drop a name like Yu-Yu Hakusho, cause it's more known.
When it comes to the order, you start with the 50 episodes one "Gensoumaden Saiyuuki" then look at the sequels on mal "Saiyuuki Reload" "Saiyuuki Reload Gunlock". And then I suggest watching the prequel. Saiyuuki Gaiden. It covers what happened to main characters before they started their journey, but it's better to watch it later as by then you already established some sort of connection to the characters. Also it came out AFTER the first 3 seasons. Then there is Saiyuuki Burial, another prequel, which is my absolute favorite. I like both Gaiden and Burial(prequels). After that there are 2 more seasons, which are more recent (2018). I haven't watched the lastest one though.
I gotta add one more thing, I really disliked the first season (Gensoumaden), there were some great episodes in it, but most of them were pretty bad, maybe you'll have a different opinion than me. But everything else was great. So if you aren't liking the first season, just know that everything else is better. One more interesting poiint about Saiyuuki, that the first season was in 2000 and the last was in 2022? 22 years later, and they retained the same male seyuus that were there originally. Pretty incredible if you ask me.
That reminds me, actually there was one person who watched Saiyuuki and who I found randomly on mal, I haven't met anyone else lol.
" I wasn’t the biggest fan of her tho lol, I was hoping Lithia would lose when I first watched it." really? lol, that's kinda funny.
I think Mestelexil's skipped scene was good, but there are better ones. I really wish they didn't skip the Hidow Alus scene, especially because Alus mentioned he wants a country.
" I didn’t have a problem with it myself tho, maybe if I rewatched the scene I’d find it more noticeable." makes sense, you didn't notice it, since I was laser-focused on seeing how it'd be adapted, it's more noticeable in the novel, because you have no idea what just happened.
That reminds me, when I showed the Mestelexil's part to my friend, he was like "I have no idea what's going on" 4 mins into the scene. And I replied with "you at least have a video and sound, meanwhile I had to imagine all of this..." and needless to mention, that was the most confusing scene for me in the novel, obviously after I finished it and reread it a few weeks later, it started making a lot more sense. But it was pretty funny, that he said it like that lol.
Btw, how did you feel about the episode? the first part was chill, the real action started in the second part.
I really enjoyed the fight, and the fact that they adapted Toroa's thoughts lol. "I gotta do this and that, avoid this, that" It wasn't to this extent in the novel, really happy with it. What they also changed that I really liked, is Toroa's entrance, in the anime, they noticed them on the hill, before he attacked. In the novel he attacked randomly, they didn't even notice him beforehand. Both versions are good, but I probably liked the anime's one more, it was cooler.
One thing I wished they'd adapt more, is him calling out the sword names, it would be cooler and it emphasized to the user that it was a different sword. Like Lance of Faima protected him against one of the Mestelexil's attacks, but some probably didn't notice it, since it happened so quickly. It's still great. Probably the only fight in a while, that I watched intently lol. Probably because I remembered every move that happened during the fight from then novel, I was rewinding a lot during the fight too.
Btw, when the episode started, the first thing I watched is the fight lol. I was too excited, so I skipped to the part where Kiyazuna was riding the Chariot Golem. But then I watched it from the start. I wondered how the Gunama Trading Post looked like, the place where the generals were, the place where the Particle Storm should pass. In the novel it was "entertwining ravines" that I could never imagine in my life, glad to see it in the anime.
The Particle Storm is here, it's pretty exciting to wonder what will happen next, btw, I was 100% certain about where the episode will end on, at the arrival of Particle Storm, it was too obvious, I thought about it as I was reading that part.
There are only 2 episodes left of this volume, before we start 3. An interesting part is that, at the end of volume 2 we have a meeting between the officials and we see some of the newer officials we haven't seen yet, and the novel describes them as sponsors of the characters WE HAVEN'T MET YET... So, the author wanted us to know who is gonna be a participant at that point. Watching the OP, it's terribly obvious who is gonna participate tho...
EP 7 covers 2 new characters, and that's the part I disliked the least in the novel. The slime... I really don't like neither him, nor the story, I'd say he is my least favorite character. But I like Uhak The Silent, I wonder if you'll like him. But I disliked his chapter story, but I liked his overall story. But he almost doesn't appear in the novel at all, he truly is the most Silent character lol.
I wonder I'll talk much about that episode, I'll only point out the things they skipped. But ep 8 though, is gonna be an absolute fire, I think you'll like it a lot, knowing who and what is gonna be in there.
and
Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san. Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!
and also
Class no Daikirai na Joshi to Kekkon suru Koto ni Natta.
I guess you will like them!
Tbh, your way of watching resonates with me more(I don't mean 3 eps a week, i mean a bit at a time). I used to know a guy on here, who'd watch 2 animes a day. He'd start with some serious anime and then end on a comedy. 24 episodes. I had no idea how he managed that. Then, we talked about my favorite manga, that he also read, and he was like "yeah, I finsihed it in several days" and it's literally 560 chapters. Even when I'm reading 12 hours a day, I can only muster 100 chapters a day. I rarely do it, only to something very interesting. But the manga we talked about was a romcom, even though it's my favorite, it's not that interseting to read 100 chapters a day. And i'm exhausted the next day, literally. So 560 chapters in several days, a romcom? I thought he was lying at first, but seeing how he'd watch 2 animes a day... maybe he really did read that much, but in his own way. It sitll remains a mystery. Don't know why I mentioned that, but even 7 years later, I still can't forget it.
So I prefer your method, I'm pretty much the same, doing it a bit at a time makes you remember it better. If you watch too much, you'll only remember important parts and will most likely forget a lot more. And most importantly, the brain gets mushy from the overload of information. But sometimes it's too interesting, I can't help it. But I then tell myself, that I'm gonna reread it anyway so it's fine if I forget/miss something on my first read.
I wonder what's your reasoning is though.
I never skip OP or ED, how could I? it's usually one of the best part of the show, especially like Ishura.
You really think Ishura is more gruesome than Mirai nikki? I remember it to be a lot more brutal, but it was a long time ago, maybe I feel different, hard to say, to say that, I'd need to watch it right now, to compare. But death games are hard to watch, when you like the characters that are gonna die.
If you like politics, you have to read, not just with Ishura, most animes skip lore/politics and that's sometimes is the most interesting part of the story. Manga adaptations are better ofc, usually, or more like the best manga adaptations >>>>> the best novel adaptations. Novels are so much harder to adapt....
There's also hard to find a good poltiics in a story, I'd say Ishura is one of it, but it's not the best, but it's pretty good. Setting also really matters when it comes to politics and characters too. For example in Ishura, politics are usually played between Twenty nine officials, and most of them are pretty great characters if not all. All are interesting, unique. Even if I hadn't read the novel, just Hidow and Harghent by himself are already way cooler than some other politicians from other stories.
Ishura's poltiics is also not the primary point of the story, more like a side.
Btw not that much politics is skipped, so we don't need 30 eps a season, but 16 would be more than enough. Ishura's adaptation is still adapting most things, but the last episode made me start doubting subs. I don't know if it's the english subs, or the anime changing dialogue, but some things just don't make sense, like Gray-haired child offering Toroa the free housing.... why would he need a free housing, it makes no sense. In the novel he said he'd hide him from the eyes of others...
"unfortunate that Ishura wasn’t made in the 80s or 90s when shows used to be really long." I wanna live in that time, I miss old shows. The last one I watched was around 7 years ago, if you like the old shows I suggest checking it out, it's pretty long. And the last season was in 2022. I don't really like recommending, because I know everyone already know what they are gonna watch for the next year, so basiacally, check it out if you have time. It's called Saiyuki
It also has a song I really like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLbDd-F4D8k
Self-proclaimed demon kings we've met so far. Taren the Punished and Kiyazuna the Axle from this season and the old man she was competing against, he was also a self-proclaime demon king, pretty sure. Then another important self-proclaimed demon king is Morio the Sentinel, the leader of Free city of Okahu that we'll see later. All SPDC's are great characters.
" but that really put me back in that headspace" I'm really happy to hear that, that was a pretty easy scene that's easy to understand as it's mostly dialogues. Dialogues are easy to read, it's pretty much the same as in anime subs.
"Also Alus defending Harghent is kinda wholesome ngl lol." true lol.
And about Hidow not wanting Alus to win, that's probably the reason why he jumped into the game. He felt he needed to be the one to control Alus. And what's interseting is that several times in that scene, author said something like "Alus can tear him apart before he could blink".
There are some officials who back up champions with a clear intent to win, to get more play in the poltiics, become more influential(like Elea,Kaete, Hardy). And there are some like Hidow. I'll get more into it after ep 6, as particular piece of information should be revealed...
One other scene that was skipped, like with Toroa buildup, there was a Mestelexil's buildup scene, to show how powerful he is. They attacked an Old Kingdom loyalists rear base and stole many items from there, including Chiritsuja the Blasting Blade that belonged to Gilnes the Ruined Castle, a very prominent general from Old Kingdom loyalists side. The scene is actually an aftermath of what happened after they started inspecting it, basically they saw how brutally people got killed, either gunned down, died to strong blow/punch, burned alive and couldn't understand what could it possibly be, but it was obvious that he wasn't a noble warrior. They also found large footsteps and smaller footsteps and then they disappeared. I instantly realized that they probably flew away. Some of them wondered if it could be Alus.
Btw in the most recent episode, you could see Toroa use Ketelk to divert the gattling gun away, Lance of Faima that defended against one attack, the crystalizing sword. Nel Tseu the burning blade. I think it was only 4. Btw, imo, it's pretty impressive how he is able to switch before them, cause if you think about it. He needs to be super quick to not only react to an attack, but also to take out a needed sword for situation.
One other thing I wanted to mention is that in Ishura, many times when I read a fighting scene, some things happen out of nowhere and then I wonder what happened, I wondered if it was me with my poor reading skills and was curious how it was gonna look in the anime.... and yeah, it stayed the same in the anime. I'll provide an example, when Mestelexil's arm suddenly got crystalized, we didn't really see how he attacked with the sword, right? It just suddenly crystalized. I don't know, I really don't like it... when it happens like this, out of nowhere. I'd prefer to see the full picture, like Toroa swinging the sword, calling out it's name and then crystalizing. It's not an anime problem, that's just how author of the novel likes to write the fighting scenes. Not all the time, but very frequently.
