Mecha and politics in a school based, adult world and alternate timeline setting. Both at time comical but mostly intense and gripping. Highly recommended!

Both have very similar plots. Gundam 00 is more serious while Full Metal Panic! is comedy oriented.

Characters with extraordinary abilities trying to keep their cover in series combining slice-of-life, thriller and action. FMP is set in a timeline where the cold war didn't end. It follows mercenary and former child soldier Sousuke in his mission to guard telepathic schoolgirl Kaname. Military-minded Sousuke often struggles with blending into normal school life, interacting with characters in a very soldier-like manner. Spy x Family has a cold war-inspired setting. It follows top spy Loid who has been given his toughest mission yet; pretend to raise a family in order to infiltrate a school. Along with his psychic daughter Yor and assassin wife Yor, all three often  read more

Because of Kazuma and Ayano. Their relationship is similar to those of Chidori and Sosuke. And their both funny. But, their difference is that, FMP uses military theme while Kaze no Stigma uses magic theme.

Both are 26 episodes-long mecha series with plenty of comedy and action. But above all, the characters in Nadesico and their relationships are eerily akin to the ones in FMP. We have a pretty dense pilot guy (Sousuke/Akito) who's competed between a friend (Kaname/Megumi) and his captain (Tessa/Yurika). Sousuke and Yurika are even physically very similar to Akito and Kaname. Among the supporting faces we also find the tsundere, the meganekko, the ladies man, the cook, etc...

Black Lagoon is similar to FMP with the whole Mercenary thing, but Black Lagoon is a lot more vulgar than FMP. Both great series.

Similarities: - Mecha - Both involve a single soldier experiencing a different life - Both soldiers have no clue about the world around them - They also both don't know anything besides how to fight - They both involve a female protagonist Differences: - Redo comes from a different world all together - This has a more discovery/adventurous feel while FMP! has a comedy feel.

Both are science-fiction, military-related anime although Toshokan Sensou doesn't have mechas. The main male characters give the same feelings but are quite different. Toshokan Sensou deals with book protection task force while FMP is oriented at resolving world terrorism and conflict. But both are military organization that works for an ideal, justice and freedom.

The main protagonists - Tatsuya and Sagara are both "abnormal" teenagers who are trying to fit in with normal highschool life ... while protecting a girl in the same grade.
report Recommended by kirareen
Both are heavy into the military type setting where a small organization is trying to prevent large conflict. Overall very similar with the female and male relationship and plot. Full Metal Panic will probably seem like a more relaxed show. Both are good watches and I would recommend them both to anyone with any interest in mobile suits.

They both have a western comics feeling, main characters are really GAR and they are very good comedies.

The main male character are both clueless to regular ways of living. This is just a taste of comedy while full metal panic is widely more enjoyable

Similarities: - Has action, mecha and military theme and a little bit of school setting - Has unique mecha abillities called "drives". FMP has "lambda drive" and Aldnoah Zero has "aldnoah drive". These skills resembles a lot, and almost identical. - Male protagonist are professional mecha robot users and works for the military - Male protagonist protects girl - The mecha robots are equipped with guns, and shoots each other Differences: - FMP is more comedy/romance oriented - Aldnoah has hints of romance but it is almost unnoticeable - Aldnoah.Zero takes place mostly in space - FMP is about protecting people from teorrists, while Aldnoah is war between Earth and Mars I recommend to watch FMP  read more

The lead characters are incredibly similar. Kaname and Akane and both short-tempered, and violent, but also kind, sweet, and easily embarrassed. The male leads, Sagara and Ranma, are both romantically and sexually clueless. The relationship that they have with the female lead is also very similar. Both have incredible ability in combat, which often gets them in trouble.

In Katanagatari and Full Metal Panic! both main characters have dull senses and carry important duties-protection; nonetheless, they overcome them and encounters different battles altogether.

Both series revolves around the theme of mecha and their usage in combat and war. Both series contains an unique relationship between the male and female protagonist. Additionally, the female protagonist in both series are strong and independent figures who can take care of themselves. Both series also contain a little comedy at school and mixes it in with drama, action, and later some emotional factors.

Teenager controlling big robots to fight the enemy with a girl the same age as him that he loves helping him with her visionary abilities, with a little bit humor here and there. What's NOT similar?
report Recommended by Kirimao
Grisaia no Kajitsu is like what would happen if you put the protagonist of Full Metal Panic in the events of Bakemonogatari written by the guys of Key with help from Gen Urobuchi. Both GnK and FMP are romantic comedy anime about teenaged secret military top soldiers sent to a normal school where they try to live "normal" lives. Both start out with lots of comedy, then become dark fairly quick. Although, while GnK stays mostly dark after, FMP goes back and forth with comedy.

Both are slice-of-life comedies (Patlabor being a workplace slice-of-life, FMP being set in a high school) set against a backdrop that discusses serious topics such as militarism, crime and terrorism. Both feature more urban combat than your usual mecha anime, with fights being done in densely populated areas where collateral damage raises the risks of things going wrong.

Black Cat is like FMP because they share starting plots. A guy is lost in life (or being controlled) and has no real freedom to do what they want or strive for. So they go on through life until a girl leads them away from their positions of command and give them a new point of view. This is how FMP and Black Cat is alike and why I would recommend it to somebody that likes BC or FMP.

Both are mecha/"fighting spirit" hybrids with a heavy dose of comedy and romance, with both featuring massive conspiracies, fate-of-the-world-rests-on-a-teenage-boy-using-a-robot plot, etc

both are mecha anime but while Bacuretsu is more serious FMP has more comedy involved.
report Recommended by mav419
Both are excellent "real robot" mecha anime, and share a very intense and "realistic" feel towards the combat depicted. Both have a strong romance subplot, though 08th is minus the high school setting and related wackiness and also bit thinner on the humor. 08th is also a very good series to get into Gundam, it's set in the same universe as the classic Gundam series however it's more of a side story then anything else.

I kept thinking of this series while watching Shana, a boy/girl pair fighting evil, some cute romance, love triangles and lots of action (though there is no magic in FMP) but if you like one, you'll love the other!

I find that Saber (F/SN) & Sousuke Sagara (FMP!) are very similiar. The pragmatic soldier type that thinks of battle 24/7. While FMP! was more comedic because he was out of place F/SN has Saber in the right environment. The Romance story also takes on a more serious tone. While FMP! keeps the shounen inexperienced, lack of bravery in all regards romantic like confessing one's love; F/SN manages to develop romance and pay it off. Both Male & Female leads are in High School or of that age but comedy is rare in F/SN, the tone remains that of FMP! battle scenes for the most  read more

Its a High School Girl & a weird strange boy. Kaname Chirdori, the main heroine of Full Metal Panic shares many characteristics of Kagome. Sousuke Sagara, the main hero, is more like Sesshomaru without the pride. With the perverted Kurz Weber and battle-ready Melissa Mao to round out the major group, it leads to funny high school slapstick and awesome Mecha action. And with Teresa (mistranslated as Teletha) "Tessa" Testarossa to complete the romantic triangle comedy.
report Recommended by Legion17
Kurenai's style is a little more unique, while FMP has more romance. But, at the core, both stories are similar in humor and in plot - a young guy is entrusted with a girl to protect and so on...Plus, both stories are very good. Watch them!

Nouzen Shin is basically a carbon copy of Sagara Sousuke with arguably less personality and a different backstory. Both shows are mecha-based and have interesting male/female lead codependent relationships.

the relationship between kaname and souske is very similar to the relationship between taiga and ryujji

Advanced weaponry that looks possible in the near future, a cast of characters that are both comedic and serious at times and don't forget the great chemistry between them in their respective series. In my humble opinion, if you enjoy one series, then you will definitely find enjoyment in the other!

*there are knives in both but in full metal panic its mostly the robots with the knifes *izaya and gauron are both really mean but silly *izaya and gauron both cause fires *i think izaya would definitely become a terrorist for fun and gauron is a terrorist who has fun at work *they both have wacky twin sisters introduced later

The Mech design is almost identical... also the protagonist both mikazuki and Sousuke has similarities.

Both give the same feel, have big action, and are geat funny comedies! The only diference: DK - magic, FMP - mecha. If you like one of these anime, you will love the other one too! -both anime main male characters act, look, and sound almost the same. -both anime main female characters like the boy, but don't want to admit it.

A Person with strong ties to military personnel goes and protects someone with ties to the military that they do not know about. Both have: Some episodes are very packed with action and others have tons of episodic slice of life episodes where they just mess around. Fanservice. The person being protected likes the person doing the protecting. Both of the shows have very similar tones as the other show.

Sci-fi series where Governments use mechs and advanced technology, the feel of conflict, politics, military, conspiracies is similar. If you like 86 you may like full metal panic too.

There is no doubt that sci-fiction and military themes are present in both of these series. Additionally, there is action and drama and even signs of psychological identity in both series as the episodes progresses.
report Recommended by Stark700
Both shows feature a semi-episodic action-adventure. Golden kamuy is a more mature series that incorporates historical & slice of life elements without sacrificing "high tension" moments. Full metal panic is a more conventional shounen-esque adventure that is more plain by comparison but nevertheless effective and not without substance. Both have great characters you will grow familiar with, each equipped with "light" but effective character arcs (i.e. don't expect Vinland saga level writing but you won't be disappointed). Although there are many differences between the two shows somehow I have a hunch they appeal to the same type of person.

it has a lot to do with mechas and a badass main character who is needed because he is so badass. plus theres some romance thrown in which makes things more interesting at times. if you like action there is plenty to go around in both series, full metal panic is a bit more bloody and harsh though. isekai is more oriented towards sexy flight suits and fights that dont kill whereas full metal has quite a bit of death. however both are quite similar to each other with the mecha and the main guy, they both are interesting with an underlying main plot that  read more

Mecha anime that focus on guerilla warfare, and small squadron battles. Both also have hints of romance

Both have a displaced warrior/soldier that pilots a mecha. He is proficient at his martial skills, and is initially cold and serious. He meets a regular girl and has to adjust to what it means to live a peaceful life in a different setting. In the end, he finds new things to protect and better reasons to fight. Both take some time to get rolling but have pretty solid characters and plots.

Both series were exemplary when it came to showing the horrors of war. Also, the 2 series have a side love interest that weighs heavily on the decisions of the main protagonists. The dubs both have Chris Patton voiicing the main charachters.

Haru and Sousuke have a lot in common. Shizuku and Chidori are both tsundere girls trying to keep the guys from causing bloodshed. Both shows, especially Fumoffu! season in FMP's case, revolve around the main male protagonist trying to lead an ordinary school life.

Similarities: - A male and a female protagonist - School setting - Action/Mecha/Comedy/Romance genre & theme - Love triangle Differences: - Story approach is slightly different because Aquerion involves fantasy/supernatural elements, while FMP involves military elements Recommendation: If you like action, mecha and romance mixed together, then i will highly recommend these series. Both of them are very good, and reminds of each other. Besides, you don't have to be afraid of the FMP animation even though it is from 2002. The animation is actually pretty decent and can be compared to Code Geass animation from 2006.

Both anime balance the genres of action and comedy in a high school setting. FMP differs with its comedic situations originating from its military protagonist as he struggles to fit into the normality of high school, whilst also working to protect one of the school students from harm. One of my favorite aspects of both shows are their main characters. Both Edward and Sagara are really cool main characters who fight to protect their friends. They are both serious when they need to be, sometimes unintentionally really funny, and of course very skillful in battle. The main female protagonists in both shows, Winry(FMA) and Chidori(FMP), are also very interesting and fun characters who I enjoyed. Both shows have a great balance of action-packed fights and comedic relief. They are somewhat military based animes but more especially in FMA. Even though FMP is from 2002, the animation resembles Code Geass animation, and therefore you should not worry about the quality/art.

Despite the fact that Full Metal Panic is like a Gundam series while Pretear is like a Sailor Moon/Captain Planet hybrid, both shows utilize a similar style of comedy, have many similarly stereotyped characters, as well as both having entertaining action sequences in between.

Eventhough the story and main objective to these anime seem different there are many similar things to each. These anime are both mecha and action ,added ecchi, both have a kind of head strong main girl character, and i found the art style ,most of all ,to be very similar to each other

Both anime are set more or less in present-day world. Main characters of both anime have supernatural powers that they are not awere and are also quietly protected from underground groups. Of course in time they learn to use their powers.

Number one thing that both share are the Mobile Suits with which the main characters fight. In both stories a young male is the main character who fights for what he thinks is right, both find pain and love as they try to make their way through life. But Full Metal Panic has much more Comedy in it than Gundamn Seed, though at soem times the story gets rather serious.

If one is looking for the kind of socially awkward protagonist that has to face the struggles of adapting to a kind of life different from all they've known, these two series would have that protagonist. Military life, civilian life. These are two worlds that ordinarily do not mix - but in these titles they do to an extent; and so begins the trials of our main characters who experience this transition between both worlds. Watch and see just how they adapt (or fail to adapt) to this new lifestyle. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly works for me.

One of the humorous jobs the main character in Full Metal Panic! has to do is...be the trashboy. Yes, both animes make a strangely poignant emphasis on taking care of the trash properly, and even though everyone makes fun of the task, it shows how big a deal it can be every now and then. Dai-Guard and Full Metal Panic are opposite sides of the same coin. Full Metal Panic is a super robot show that masquerades as a real robot show, while Dai-Guard is a real robot show done in the style of a super robot show. Dai-Guard closely examines some of the themes that Full Metal Panic takes for granted (like what would compel a private company to fund a mecha project, and what the military's response would be to a privatized defense program). Both series enjoy their comedic moments off the battlefield.

Definitely watch this if you liked mobile suit gundam. Personally I liked full metal panic better because of the settings. Full metal panic's conflicts and battles seem more realistic. Yes there is mecha's but this deals with things like nuclear weapons, political attacks, demand and request etc etc. While mobile suit gundam 00 goes to unrealistic things like the linear train, space battles, and more. Nonetheless, both are great animes and I liked them both.
