The relationship dynamic between the protagonists are very similar in both anime. In fact, even the personalities bear strong resemblance - short tempered and feisty female lead versus reserved and awkward male lead who are forced to be together and overtime, grow on each other. Biggest difference is FMP is a mecha genre and slightly more serious (themes of war, more suggestive).
