Music, music, music. Both series have great music scores to keep you entertained, not to mention the underlining drama that eats away at each character. Even if you're not a fan of the drama, you'll probably end up enjoying the music in some sense~

Beck is a modern high school coming-of-age story where a nobody becomes a somebody by becoming a member of a rock band. Kids on the Slopes is a josei romance drama disguised as a high school coming-of-age story centered around jazz in the 1960's. On the surface the two series appear similar. They both use music as a way of introducing and connecting their characters with the rest of the cast; including love interests that act as motivational factors. However, where as jazz is just a means to romantic ends in Kids on the Slopes, in Beck music is the most important aspect: it's the driving  read more

Both animes have some similar histories about music, a lot of musical references and of course a little band wanting to get bigger. There some other references but if i say it could be a spoiler so, watch it and make your conclusion. ^^

Both are slice of life shows dealing with music. The main characters are kind of similar and they are also members of bands. There is more drama and romance in BECK, while D. M. C. has more comedy.
report Recommended by Chicken008
Both shows are centered around music. Drama isn't exactly similar in the two of them, but you'll probably end up enjoying the relationships developed between the characters. Koyuki could maybe be representative of Chiaki, as they're both struggling for a career in music.

They have the same feel, animation, and general story line. While Beck seems to appeal more to the Male audience, Paradise Kiss seems to be more towards the Female aspect

Both are essentially indie movies that were animated. Both Koyuki and Sato are stuck in a very bad mind set in the very start of the shows, and I believe that Koyuki could have ended up like Sato if not for his music passion.

It seems to me that if a person liked the story of Kaikan Phrase, they'd like Beck too. They're both stories about mostly strangers coming together and working towards their dreams of being a famous rock band. They were very similiar but Beck was done better, I think.

Although Baby Steps is about sports and Beck about music, the main characters are very similar in looks and personality : They both lack ''something in their life'', they are hardworkers and try to give their best once they find what they like. Also both shows have quite nicely added romance. Although the theme is different, the structure is similar. If you liked one, definitely check the other out.

Both involves music. The difference being Beck is about the story of a band while the latter a duo. They also sing English in most of the songs in the anime

Bakuman is the Beck of manga. Similar slice of life feel with similar progression. The main character both were once going through life aimlessly.
report Recommended by Geekhavok94
They have similar storylines in how a newbie guitar player becomes friends with an older band, whom discover his hidden talent is singing. While given is more romance driven, there are still themes of discovering life through and around music, new friendships and the dedication needed to be in a band.

- Creating a rock band. - For the main character it's the first time in their lives to experience being in a band. - Main character is very talented but other members don't know it at first. - Problems with money so band members have to do additional work. Both series feature these aspects so if you are looking for similar series you might check them out.

Rock 'n' Roll anime sharing similar vibes and genres: music x slice of life, romance and comedy. Group of friends builds up a band together. Also, both male leads are called Tanaka.

Music-themed anime and manga, but much more realistic. If you like Slice of Life themes and Music anime, then you'll like this. :3

Even though one is about cycling and the other is about a rock band, there's a similarity in the personality and story development of the main characters -- quiet, unassuming guy finding a new niche and a group of friends through a new interest -- that might appeal to people who who liked the relationships more than the subject matter. Both Shinozaki (Over Drive) and Koyuki (Beck) end up having a natural aptitude that's brought out through the combined efforts of a charismatic brother and sister pair, etc, etc, etc. The shows really are similar in the general sense (not so much in  read more

- Both deal about music and emphazise on the Ganbatte Setting. - Though Beck is more a drama and Agetarou more a comedy both have a good atmosphere and emit this unique non mainstream aura feeling - relationships are devloped outside from the usual High School box and feel more real and less stereoptyped - the music itself is good to listen to and will be enjoyed by music fans with a variaty in taste.

-Both series have some coming-of-age elements and explore the facets of puberty/adolesence -Music plays a role in both series (FLCL: Metaphor, references, and soundtrack from a real band. BECK: References, story revolves around creating a band) -Both have well-produced English dubs with favourable opinion within the anime community -Both have likable and realistic characters

Both anime have preety simmilar "From zero to hero" feel, and bullied, hard-working type main character. Furthermore they were both made by Madhouse Studios, however Hajime no Ippo is way better animated, but yet Beck has better soundtrack. Well, check by yourself and hope you like them.

- Basically, both shows are about a group of friends that hang out together while practicing their passions. Beck is more about as serious passion for music, while Genshiken is more casual. - Similar artstyle - Two of the main characters are similar at first - These two shows kind of give the same vibe or atmosphere at some points, though Beck gets more serious and intense after a while - Both animes have characters that feel realistic and not cliché

if you like GTO, you'll like Beck. it's really human and deals with the same kind of stuff

If you are craving some brotherly bonding, some buds chasing their dream together, a realistically told story about working toward a seemingly unreachable goal, then these two are for you. While the subject matter differs greatly, the feeling of accomplishment and focus on the journey is very strong in both.

Both shows have realistic portrayals of school life, though Wandering Son's characters act more like high schoolers than middle schoolers. Both of the shows use a realistic color scheme (no bright blue hair five feet in the air) and have performances (Beck=concerts, Wandering Son=plays). Both shows have a very similar feel, and if you like one you'll probably like the other.

Both shonens with romance. Although, in one case, the main theme is sports and in the other - music, feeling when watching both titles the same. If you liked one, definitely check the other out.

Koyuki and Haruna are very similar characters as well as their development. Both anime are about the ups/downs of an up and coming band

The protagonist from these titles makes his way from the bottom to the top in his profession. The daily life aspect plays an important role. Often, the protagonist gets sidetracked or does odd jobs to stay afloat. On his way, the protagonists meets people from various backgrounds. Especially in Ashita no Joe, I sometimes had the feeling that these people do not fit the stereotypes I usually see on the screen, but reminded me more of people in real life. Whenever I see a character centric real life-ish career story like in Beck, I get reminded of Ashita no Joe. (I like Ashita no Joe much  read more

obscure old series about a rock band who tries to pave their way to the big stage with brighter stars standing between them and their dream. both take more of a realistic approach to depicting music business than your average idol shows.

Do you like watching teenagers that have found their calling? Eizouken showed us girls who loves creating anime and that formed a band, just like guys from Beck did. Both shows are about young people who start as no-names and their road to success. That feeling of making something grand and special is focal point for both Eizouken and Beck.

This is not music drama but if you have liked Beck I feel you may like a soothing slice of life romance anime which is slow-paced along with character developments. This is one of the rare truly adult romance and slice-of-life anime (adult I mean by maturity not hentai) That is why I love this anime and also because it feels very close to real-life romance where there is a mix of different types of personalities. I liked the ending like Beck, it's not forced, it takes its natural course which is what I love about such anime.

Both are about high school students learning a musical instrument. Though both have very different styles of music, the character writing on both are strong and despite the somewhat bland animation, being able to hear them play really elevates the story so much!

Similar stories where musicians try to make it big. We follow them along their journey to fame. If you enjoy music you will enjoy the other one as well.

Same shows with heavy focus on the music, and especially the vocalist. While one have shoujo tone and the other more like shounen. The music genre is similar so if you like the music you definitely like the other show. Both show also have similar ending with the same stage performance place.

Both these shows have a lot similarities - Its about Music -They all perform in a band -The band are both trying to be great and reach a goal -the main character somehow becomes the main member of the band -there are rival bands - they are other things that cause drama : Show by rock- Dark monsters, Beck- Other music producer -Both main characters play the guitar and sing Only difference -Show by rock' main characters are girl while for Beck its guys

-Both shows talks about music and has taken music seriously -Both of the heart of the band Kasumi (poppin party) Koyuki (Beck), started off with nothing but desire to make music. -Both shows also addressed the life and conflicts of each band members

Both anime's share amazing music. While Beck is more rock inclined, Macross Frontier is more J-pop inclined. Macross Frontier does not focus very much on the musical aspect seeing as how it is an action mecha romance anime, but the music does appear quite a bit, and the music is such a perfect compliment to the already amazing fighting mecha scenes. If you love music, I highly recommend watching both of these. Be wary of the genres each specialize in.

Despite one show being about forming a volleyball team, and the other being about forming a rock band, both shows share a common theme of rising above adversity and achieving your dreams. Many of the characters also feel pretty similar, as well as their interactions with each other.

Both main characters are looking for something exciting in their life. DRRR is about secrets and myths, BECK is about music. Funny thing is that Mikado from Drrr uses screenname Tanaka while Beck's main character's name is Tanaka.

Both about music, and more just...(If i will tell you more it will be a spoiler ;D)

Both series are done by Madhouse, and are slice-of-life style stories about people trying to become famouse musicians. In Chance Pop Session the girls are trying to become pop idols(Obviously), while in Beck the band is trying to become a famouse band (Obviously). Both series are heavy on the drama, and are slow paced, but not boring. Also both series have high use of music, and good soundtracks(although Beck's is a lot better). Beck was made more for the males in mind, Chance Pop Session was made for the girls but neither are "extremely" girly/manly or anything. Also Beck has better animation, and the  read more

When a chance encounter with a talented badass save the protagonist from their school bullies, Tatara (Ballroom e Youkoso) and Koyuki's (Beck) lives change from their unhappy, mundane, and alienated life experiences through competitive dancing and rock music. Seeking to emulate their heroes, the protagonists persevere through challenges to become a better person and dancer/musician. Both anime use different narratives to tell their stories. Ballroom e Youkoso follows a typical action/sport shounen narrative. Beck has a school slice of life narrative that creates drama from simple misunderstandings and accidents. Each anime has their flaws due to their tropes, but remain quality anime.

Beck and Piano no Mori are both wonderful musical tales about love of music, perseverance, and self-belief.
report Recommended by lancelot200
Both are music titles with the classic drama, comedy and romance. On Beck though, the band plays a more important role on the story than in Gravitation. If you liked Gravitation, you'll love Beck. They are similar in kind but Beck turns out being better in my opinion.

Both are slice of life, coming-of-age stories about young teenage males. They both involve drama and romance, though it is more of a main focus in "Ocean Waves". "BECK" focuses more on music.

Beck has a strange dog, Tokyo Marble Chocolate has a strange mini donkey. Two strange animals trapped in otherwise realistic slice-of-life series.

The relationship between the male and female leads are similar since both are mismatched couples coming of age.

Major characters involved in popular band but it drifts more to the super natural than to the music scene.

At first glance it seems like these two series have nothing in common - Beck starts with High School and Rainbow starts off with prison. Times are different, ages are the same. The main things that both these shows are about are similar: - Friendship between the MC's is superb. Both shows have a strong plot focusing on friendship. - Music making (Rainbow has it in the latter half) - Both series show that life isn't always fair, to get somewhere, you must work hard for it. -Martial arts (Karate, Boxing, etc) and guns. Just a warning though - Rainbow is a lot darker series (seinen), while Beck  read more

In both anime main characters at the beginning don't have a goal in life, but by meeting someone they find it. Both anime have fishing in it, although Beck is about making a band, while Tsuritama focuses on the fishing itself.

Both are music anime, where a group is formed. To get somewhere you need to give your best - that kind of feeling. Beck is rock, Tari Tari choir music though.

The portrayal of youths as they grow and struggle to achieve their dreams and find meaning in their lives is wonderfully conveyed in both series. The cast of well developed characters and their realistic depiction is brilliantly perceived in both. The various roller coaster rides of emotions that are felt in both will leave you sympathizing and relating to the characters. The two series are very good coming of age series that are about finding what matters most in life.

I am going to recommend these anime for the similarities between the main heroines of these series. Both are very strong willed and good at what they are doing and they add a lot to the story. So if you are looking for anime where there is strong female lead, it might be something for you. Also both of these anime give very good slice of life feeling and for that reason one of my personal favourites. If you like slice of life anime and haven't seen either one of those it's quite a shame. Also, in both anime there are these "awe" moments when  read more

A young girl ends up involved in the world of the pop idol while dealing with a despicable boyfriend.

Both are great counterparts to each other. The iDOLM@STER is mainly rooted in telling a sweet story about upcoming idols, while BECK is more focused on telling a dramatic, sometimes heart wrenching tale of the rise of a rock group. One is fluffy, one is realistic. Both are about music and very entertaining.

The main Character in both animes is clumsy and under confident. They both think that their not good at anything.

Both anime are about being in highschool and playing an instrument and practising. Beck focuses on guitar, while Hibike on brass instruments. Beck deals with being in a band outside of school and Hibike in a school band. Also friendship is a common theme in both.
