They both are about games, Hikago is about the game of Igo, Yu-Gi-Oh! is about duel monsters with cards, both of them will lend different strategy types to win, and as Yugi Moto there is Hikaru Shindo, as Yami Yugi there is Fujiwara no Sai.

These series are Anime which involve playing a TCG or trading card game. Yu-Gi-Oh is the one most well known in the west and Cardfight, is highly influenced by Yu-Gi-Oh, though what series isn't? The inspiration though is ingrained from the similar styles to having a very mild mannered protagonist who is wanting to move through the world of TCG.

If you liked the tournament and battle aspect in one of these anime then you should try out the other one as well. They both center around a game where the main character wants to become the champion at. The concept that friendship is important is also very important in both anime.

These shows went hand in hand in the 90's and early 2000's as the go to popular children's anime both containing a plethora of amazingly designed monsters with beautiful art styles and character designs. Both shows follow young protagonists who battle/duel opponents with these monsters and aim to be the best in their field. They both have huge multi-media influence with masses of video games, card games & movies spawned from the original shows. The art style, characters, OST, humour & world building are all top notch in both of these classic shows.

Both series feature savant's and genius/prodigy main characters with great & unique hair. Both are based off popular shonen JUMP manga. Main cast of characters are of similar ages (high school ish) and also had almost ordinary school lives where they made some of the friendships they maintain on these extraordinary adventures. Both series also have amazing art styles, character designs and OST's.

Light and Kaiba are similar due to their character and personality. Both shows involve strategy, intellectuals, spiritual beings, school, and rivalry.

They both not just using cards and battling monsters, these animes are also similar by that there is an another world which belongs to the monsters which are battling in the real world.

+Yugi and Lelouch are both expert strategists. Both have been mostly victorious in nearly all competitive endeavors. +Shared Similar Alternative Personalities. Yugi is more timid compared to the confident Pharoh; Lelouch is normally serious and strategic except when around his little sister and school friends. +Extremely confident when in appropriate character.

- Both have Millennium Items in them. - Both have a "King of ____" (i.e. yami is the King of Games, while Kaito is the King of Puzzles.) - Both have a character who looks like Duke Devlin (i.e. Duke Devlin and Kaito) - Both are childish - Both are pretty cool.

Both shows have partners who work together win their duels/matches. One series is based on a popular card game that is known worldwide. The other is based on the Gundam franchise which uses familiar Gundam models from past Gundam series. Yugioh is dark while Gundam Build Fighters is light-hearted. Both series catered to children.

Most people have only watched the original yugioh. Vrains is the newest one with a different plot m characters, and summoning methods. You will enjoy this if you liked the plot of the original. They are interesting

Both shows draw a lot of mythology and historical references in a contemporary setting with fictional characters. What both have in common is the use of supernatural powers and spirits. Both are dark but Fate/Zero is depressing and gorier whereas YuGiOh is dark in general. Characters in the series employ intelligence than action by using strategies and other methods to ensure their victory. Every character are ambitious into pursuing what they desire. Also the desire to change the world is one of the aspects both shows have. As for character similarities, Gilgamesh and Kaiba have a lot in common despite being different characters.

I'm surprised this hasn't been recommended yet. Despite the stories are different, but the characters from both anime are quite similar. - Aladdin = Yugi (A young boy (Yugi is older than Aladdin though) who have a sacred item hanged on their neck (Yugi's Millennium Puzzle & Aladdin's Flute)). - Ugo = Yami Yugi (Protagonist's Partner who lived inside the sacred items and have a strong bond with them. They helped their partners a lot). - Alibaba = Jounouchi/Joey (Protagonist's best friend who have a blonde hair. The most energetic person in their group. They can changed from a goofball into a serious person at certain situation). - Judar  read more

They both are about games. its really Similar with the noah ark off yugioh same feeling and in both series there try to collect cards

-both Anime Talks about Card Games. -In Yugioh they Sometimes battle In Shadow realm and in Selector they fight in another kind of Dimension. -similar kind of fear when they battle in the other dimensions.

Both main characters bodies are inhabited by a powerful ancient spirit, which they share their body with. When these respective protagonists get into tight spots they rely on the strength of these more powerful spirits. Both have themes of bonds/friendship and their own takes on spirits & the supernatural. In both the main cast are also high-schoolers and often wear their gakuran. The similar charm and aesthetic to the shows make me confident fans of one will likely enjoy both.

Both are about dueling to win. Both are about summoning monsters with cards. Both are about friendship and trust. Both are about the heart of the cards. What heart of the cards means is believe in the heart of the cards, the cards will listen to you and you will draw the right card to win. Winning is hard, but winning without the heart of the cards is a Big No No.

I watched yugioh and was recommended this, assuming I wouldn't like it and yugioh would be the only anime I ever watched. Naruto is equally as good and still contains a magical element just as yugioh did. The first episode is amazing, and the second and third are good also. I'm about halfway through episode 4 and I thought I would recommend this to other yugioh fans looking for something else to watch. I'm alternating between the 2 now :)

both are duel game action themed anime with a supernatural twist with them nice art and character designs as well as suspense too.

-Revolving around, and heavily taking part in the country of Egypt. -Flamboyant and unique character designs, can spot a Jojo or Yugioh character a mile off, recognisable art styles. -Lovable characters, high stakes and deep ties of friendship. Although not glaringly alike, I've noticed a huge cross over in the fandoms of these two series, I can see why as both also appeal to me! I recommend checking out the other if you're super into one of these!

Both main characters have alter egos that make them darker, tougher, and arguably hotter. Also, they both deal with the supernatural.

I felt like part of Yu Gi Oh were inspired by Berserk by many reasons: -Solid art work -Bishonen and Bishoujo looks -Dark tone whereas in Yugioh, minus the blood unless if you read the manga adaptation -Desire to change the world is the wish in some of the characters -Anti-Heroes do whatever it takes to change the world -Strategies and All out attack are employed but Yugioh is more card like whereas Berserk is realistic Plus I cannot help but compare Kaiba and Blue Eyes to Griffith and Yugi and Black Magician to Guts in terms of personality, motivation, rivalry, and color.

In both anime, there is a young protagonist who sets up to become the best at his field: Yugi tries to become the best duelist, while Red tries to become the best Pokemon trainer. Also, in both anime, the main character engages in duels with other characters using their monsters: in Yu-Gi-Oh!, the monsters are summoned through cards, while in Pokemon, the monsters are summoned through Poke Balls. Both anime show the adventures of these characters as they make new friends, but also new rivals.

Both anime are based on manga published by Shounen Jump. They follow a protagonist, who, along with his friends, travels around the world and often battles against other opponents. Also, both anime have arcs where the protagonists play a real life video game, and in both cases, it has something to do with collecting cards with special effects.
report Recommended by BohemianRhapsody
While the demographic is certainly different, both shows have similar themes. In both anime, the main protagonist finds himself playing high stakes card games against powerful enemies, which he has to win using his ingenuity. Overall, the both have a similar atmosphere, despite Kaiji being more mature.

BNHA does card games with holograms, clearly inspired on classics like Yugioh.

Fighting Foodons takes a lot of cues from Yugioh. Their Dubs are done by the same studio and share production styles, similar jokes and even voice casts. Plotwise, Fighting Foodons has so many similarities to Yugioh. From being a card game to very cheesy dialogue.

There's more similarities between Hells and Yu-Gi-Oh than just their art styles and crazy character designs. Characters stuck in situations (and maybe literal other worlds) beyond their control, fighting through a few games to get what they were promised, touching friendship bonds coming out of nowhere, and some surprise spoiler spoiler stuff about souls and stuff are present in either one. And all throughout the characters' trials and tribulations to its very end, you will realize that these adventures made you miss having some friends around.

you will like this anime if you like the yu-gi-oh! franchise They are also both action, adventure animes

The power of friendship is unbelievably strong and makes for an excellent running of the different moments that can simply be overcome just because you have friends that will stick by you. I'd probably take this recommendation in a little more obscure fashion, however. It is still something to consider.

Both focus on supernatural storytelling, a spooky atmosphere, a young adult cast and also lots of action in it as well too and also supernatural creature summoning included. And a ya cast and their dark sides too.

If you like YuGiOh for it's style and presentation, then I highly recommend checking out Tekken 1998. You'll recognise and come to understand a huge amount of director Kunihisa Sugishima's screen language. It was a delightful thing to watch, like a museum of visual ideas I've seen in YuGiOh. However, if instead you like YuGiOh for it's story, games, and battles - and how those are paced, then Gundam Build Fighters 2013 is where to look. To me it's the true spiritual successor to Duel Monsters's format.

Fate of the world hangs in the balance of children's games. Both focus on a Shonnen MC. Both are somewhat the same during the final boss of an arc (Atem vs Marik) and (Zarc vs Lancers. Both are really getitng you into the game.

Anime about trading card game aimed at younger audience that does things over the top - shouting protagonists, absurdly huge duel arenas, monsters from the cards actually appearing, everyone being super serious about the game and don't forget the crazy hairstyles.
report Recommended by abystoma2
The duels in Yugioh are played up as dramatically as the cases in Ace Attorney. Over the top personalities, the screaming when the opponent beats your best move, and the fact they're depictions are completely inaccurate to what the represent (The TCG for Yugioh and Actual Law/Trials for Ace Attorney)

YUGIOH! DUEL MONSTERS by NAS and Studio Gallop is a strange story just like Jojo part 4. Both series take place in late 90's Japan and have a cast of characters who bounce off of each other well. The slice of life moments in both series are hilarious, and the action is great in both series.
report Recommended by LSSJ_Gaming
Both series have supernatural and magical elements as well as humans who use fictional beings to achieve their objective but at the same time form bonds with them as well in an urban city like setting. When it comes to battles, both shows have a battle royale style in the city. Legends and myth both play a huge role as well uncovering huge secrets that will shock the viewers. Not to mention I happen to stumble upon some character similarities: Yugi-Shirou Yami Yugi-Archer Kaiba-Gilgamesh and Kirei Jonouchi-Shinji Matou Mai-Rin Tohsaka and Saber

Both kids classics, both market real world toys & games. Both have similar character designs with the classic spiky hair flair to them. Ryuga is reminiscent of Bakura/Marik with his expressions and psychopathy.
report Recommended by JVskunkape
Both have a protagonist who have an "another self". In Nura, his other self is his Youkai form. Like in Yu-Gi-Oh! the other form is more strong and confident and eventually is what the protagonist want to become (and later manage to become). Both series focus on the character development and how they keep trying to change theirselves to face all the danger they are going to have to fight. The main difference is pacing, Nura is really straight to the point, where Yu-Gi-Oh! takes it's time and, for some, overstay it's welcome.

Both series are protagonized by kids of more or less the same age. Also, in both series, something as trivial as card games (YuGiOh!) or football/soccer (Inazuma Eleven) is taken to the extreme that the life of a character, several characters, cities, countries or the world may be in danger. Plus, the world revolves around their respective games: in Inazuma Eleven, the biggest conspiracies and the more serious conflicts in the history of the humanity can be solver with one (yes, one!) soccer match, while in YuGiOh!, some companies spend millions to create hyper-realistic holograms to make the game more captivating. In both series there's  read more

Both are about games in which you could die. Akagi is about mahjong and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is about a card game. Yu-Gi-Oh! have magical/spiritual touch.

Who will be the King of Game-er no, I mean the Champion of Mahjong. Basically both have similar worlds where apparently everybody plays Duel Monsters or Mahjong. Also Dumb Luck/The Heart of the Cards take a large part in both of them and somehow Yugi and Saki are blessed with them. But prefer Saki because this teaches you about a game that actually requires strategy and you get more women. Also Saki has unbelievable amounts of kinetic yuri!

Proxy battle with monsters summoned through cards - monsters that seem to have their own will to at least some extent. The duels (proxy battles) are conducted in ridiculously huge and stylized arenas.
