Similar comedy style and length, bursts of hilarious moments throughout each episode of each series.
report Recommended by Chicken008
Both are slice of life shows dealing with music. The main characters are kind of similar and they are also members of bands. There is more drama and romance in BECK, while D. M. C. has more comedy.

Dark humor, profanity abound, and evident lack of budget towards animation

Rock n Roll and crazy comedy, kind of like FLCL.
report Recommended by Saintevil
Both have a similar sense of humor using dark or even vulgar images and punchlines to get their points across, often times using bodily fluids. Somehow they take the most normal everyday things and make them the most legendary scenes in the most disgusting of ways. Some of the scenes are down right grotesque, but in the best way to where you can't look away.

They are both fucking hilarious! They give out the same feeling and make fun out of a lot of things. 'DMC' is a fabulous parody about the music industry, the same way 'Yondemasu yo Azazael-san' laughs about humans, their problems and their true nature. If you loved either, you will definitely love the other one as well! <3

Both are filled with comedy, although of vastly differing genres, but the biggest similarity between the two remains the big draw of in show music, and this is where both shows sign. K-ON has sort of half over detailed concert/music video, while DMC has the crowd's reactions to unusual stage events, which remains the funniest thing about DMC. Fans of these probably won't overlap, with K-ON picked up by S-O-L fans and DMC by fans of Cromatarie or metalheads, but while DMC is pure untampered awesome, K-ON's awesome-ness doesn't really show until you think about how much you are enjoying a story about 4 girls  read more

Both are parodies full of gross and dirty jokes. Also, both have 2 stories per episode and a lot of nonsense that somehow works in the plot's favor.
report Recommended by m4rc0
Even though one of them is about music and the other one is school life, the humor is about the same where a pure heated guy gets into the wrong situation in some funny way
report Recommended by moopoop
You may like The Legend of Black Heaven if you have seen Detroit Metal City other way around I don't know as Detroit Metal City feature very bad language and sick humour. But both animes contain music in rock genre, the main characters also have two kind of life style or personality and they have some problem with their relationships too while they performing or what ever it calls.
report Recommended by XzaR
Two hilarious shorter (ca 15 min x 10 ep) series with the shared trope of a timid main character who transforms when performing death metal. Both are vocalists, either in a popular band, or just slaying it in a karaoke place. If you want to just relax and watch a series which doesn't take itself too seriously, laughing life's annoying troubles away, then either is a great choice.
report Recommended by Aegidrom
Both feature seemingly mild-mannered main characters with death metal alter-egos (complete with hardcore forehead tattoo) getting to comedic situations and trying to cope with life. The difference is Aggressive Retsuko's heavy metal side is internal and usually hidden while DMC's hardcore alter ego is literally an idol.

If you liked gintama for its lame but awesome comedy, you'll love DMC!
report Recommended by Jagara
-very funny -contain bunch of short stories, but still follow the storyline -the mc sometime use their power to reluctantly get rid of their problem or doing nice thing to the other -have another char who make their live dont go as they want the difference - saiki is on highscool setting yet detroit metal city is on death metal life - personality of the main char
report Recommended by wildape
Very crude humor featured in both titles though DMC is much more extreme.
report Recommended by lordblackness88
Although different by music genre (metal/pop rock), both are about music band consisting of three members and relationship between those members and people around. Both are comedies.
report Recommended by abystoma2
-both are about a band -episodes are short -many jokes, comedy being the main genre. -unconventional characters If you liked one is very probably to like the other one, too.

* Both are slice of life shows dealing with music industry.... * Both have lots of awesome/funny/memorable moments (songs/music/great characters) * Both are short series ( by episode length ) * Really great characters with unusual designs..
report Recommended by Konte
This short really brought me back to Detroit Metal City, not only the silly yet hilarious setting, but also the gags, wacky animation and in general the short yet fun anime. Quite liked both and this directly reminded me off DMC!
report Recommended by RafaelDeJongh
Both hilariously random with episodes comprising of many short segments. DMC focuses over the life in a death metal band while DKNN focuses on the lives of highschool boys. DMC is also a little bit more vulgar.
report Recommended by FegeleinAntics
Bastard and Detroit Metal City are from totally different genres, but both anime pays an interesting homage to the heavy metal icons and its sub-culture, which may appeal to the metalhead viewers.
report Recommended by BDL
They both have the same style of "in your face" humour, and both main characters have inexplicable motivations (why does Negishi keep singing for DMC? / how the fu*K did Excel end up working for Ilpalazzo?)
report Recommended by P0llUT3R
Some crazy sense of humor.
report Recommended by Lucek
Both have similar fast-paced styles of crrude humor. However, the episoides in DMC follow an actual plot, whereas Gyagu Manga Biyori tends to resort more to randomness.
report Recommended by sniW
These OVAs are both centered around glam metal bands that look like KISS knockoffs. In the case of DMC it's a parody focusing on a fictional band, while Seikima II is based off of a real Japanese band and is about their fictional backstory as demons. They're both hilarious, but I'm not entirely sure if Seikima was meant to be a comedy.

Short episodes with similar sense of humor.
report Recommended by Crochax
Both are crazy ass comedies

There are mainly two categories among my favorite comedy series. The first one is the Fumoffu/School Rumble group, typical (but great) high school comedy. The second category, only composed by GTO and DMC, distinguishes itself by a more particular sense of humor. They both share awesomely wicked main characters, and also 3 letters title acronyms.

Both Plastic Nee-san and DMC are comedic shows in a sense that they follow a similar format, both being short series that consist of 12 episodes with no extensions. They also have similar art-styles, both being relatively low budget productions; the animation is lacking but that does not take away from the comedy, which is the main goal of both shows. DMC was produced by Studio 4°C while Plastic Nee-san was done by TYO Animations; the less known of the two studios. Though the two are both comedic shows, they are pretty much polar opposites in terms of what type of humor they use. Plastic  read more

Both of these animes have an unapologetically below the belt way to tell a joke that will make you laugh like a hyena on steroids.
report Recommended by TheDivineGhost7
These anime are focused on the comedy and has nice jokes going on for them. They're focused on sex jokes for slightly '' mature '' audiences but still can be quite funny and worth watching. Also they have less apparent stories so they're mostly for calming down or to laugh!
report Recommended by GiantQAACSleier
Two of the funniest anime ever made in my humble opinion. Both contain really absurd, crude humour and memorable quotes.
report Recommended by LoveLikeBlood
Witness two socially awkward characters failing at the most simple of tasks and then dealing with the fallout of it after. Really funny show filled with cringe humor which I personally enjoy. Both main characters also mean well and just want to fit in with everyone else.
report Recommended by Protaku
Both shows contain comedy that relies heavily on over exaggeration/loudness. They are both very hyper shows. Also contains an MC that is forced to live in this crazy lifestyle, rather than being there by choice
report Recommended by Short_Circut
Not an idol show but great comedy and plays mostly out-of-stage scenes.
report Recommended by pere2oso
It's about one character in a situation they don't like being in. It features a lot of sexual humor (KdO is more graphic; has sex scenes). Very short series (KdO is 1 hour long, DMC is 2 hours long). DMC is better than KdO though. KdO got cancelled before anything got developed more properly.
report Recommended by TodAboT
The main protagonists are really similar as they hide their true self behind the "mask". They're also really strong in their own field (Nobody can beat Krauser in metal music, the same thing goes for Momonga when it comes to battles) which make everyone fear of/respected them. If you liked Momonga, you'll definitely like Krauser/Negishi or vise versa.
report Recommended by renzospark
Similarities: -Mob and Negishi are quite similar in terms of personality (a very calm person who could change into someone different in a certain situation). -Both focused on Comedy. -Simple yet unique art style. Differences: -Detroit Metal City is about Music, while Mob Psycho 100 is about Supernatural things. -DMC's comedy is more mature compared to the comedy in Mob Psycho 100.
report Recommended by renzospark
Both stories focus on metal bands that are pretty popular and their journey to sucess as well as nice art and visuals as well too.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both series feature a lead who everyone thinks is godlike but is actually just misunderstood Both are comedies that use slice of life misunderstandings
report Recommended by Sc0wl
Sarkastic slice of life type that'll make you a fan of dark side of music
report Recommended by susan00
Both are music-driven anime that involve introverted leads whose main insecurities are played for laughs Bocchi - Social awkwardness DMC - Split-personality
report Recommended by Muadiziro
Well, these two are only similar in the fact that you do not know where the anime is going to come from, the absurd turns and the scenes that leave you saying "what?"
report Recommended by HiddenAzorin
Probably the two funniest anime I've seen. Even if you don't care about school life and music themed anime (I don't) both are definitely worth watching if you like inappropriate humor. Suitable for adults.
report Recommended by herculeskaboom
These shows have the same dark comedy and over-the-top sense of humor, also the main character in both series is an anti-hero came from the depths of hell to rule this world with all his epicness!
report Recommended by BDL
DMC, what can you say about this show? It's weird nasty and frickin hilarious. Level E can get a little gory at times but I think if you like the dumb funny in either you'll at least enjoy the other.
report Recommended by Ardnaed
Both of them have a kilograms of black humor and misunderstanding between characters.
report Recommended by TAB66
Negishi is Kasuga in an alternate universe where his corrupter extraordinaire (Nakamura) is his band manager. Here, his love for verbose literature is an affinity for Swedish pop. His blossoming perversion is a shameless alter-ego. His crush on an actually-totally-attainable-if-it-weren't-for-plot idealized girl is a crush on an actually-totally-attainable-if-it-weren't-for-plot idealized girl. Some common themes: moral deterioration and distress it causes.... yes, even when played for laughs. To quote Aku no Hana's MC himself (paraphrasing) "comedy and horror are similar in that they both stem from the element of surprise." The cherry on top? Same director.
report Recommended by broujo
Despite having different approaches, both shows focus on music. Each of them has a character who likes The Sex Pistols. While NANA has more romance, DMC has more comedy.
report Recommended by Kyomu9
Both are of these hilarious comedies have short episodes and know no shame.
report Recommended by Metty
Both are insanely hilarious.
report Recommended by roquefort
While the music is nowhere near similar, both DMC and Sexy Commando have a fast paced and absurd sense of humor that makes you laugh so hard you have to pause and rewind the show to catch what you missed.
report Recommended by GOKU_NO_SORROW
Wildly different anime with similar comedic premises: our mild-mannered main characters want to be normie conformists and treat everyone with respect, but instead end up in jobs where they are required to insult and degrade people. In recurring gags they are horrified by their own proclivity for that role, as they unintentionally take it farther than intended, and find themselves accidentally going into "work mode" at inappropriate times.
report Recommended by nDroae
Dark comedy with simple but outrageous animation and pictures, mentoined similar topics like sexuality, aberrations. + using metal/rock music
report Recommended by Fullmoon88chan
Anime that deals with music in a comedic way,a hilarious parody, which will make you laugh or cry tears of joy.
report Recommended by MorzGT
Main Hero have some similarities -Had the Unexpected Life -Had same Problem, that's "Dream " -funny moments when they came out can always make smile and laugh -Had someone they love
report Recommended by DekiruKoto
While the genrest are different, both are one of a few anime which has something to do with metal music. Bot are bit grotesque, while Detroit Metal City has it´s heavy caliber jokes and it´s about a metal music, Agitated Screams of Maggots is full of guro and dementia and it´s metal music video with same sound as Detroit Metal City.
report Recommended by abystoma2
The setting might be different but the fact that they are both hilarious shows and are somewhat short anime, DMC being only about 12 minutes and Senyuu, only about 5 minutes, but can leave you laughing up until the end are what makes these show interesting.
report Recommended by Navizel
Both animes are totally random and hilarious, feature great short scenes and are rather fast paced!
report Recommended by RafaelDeJongh
Both anime are crazy, full of expression, action and vulgar jokes. Also, they have short episodes.
report Recommended by Day-Elven
Both quite silly, but in the end so damn funny. Detroit Metal City is a lot more offensive, but if you watched Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san without any crying about it being offensive thet you'll be fine with Detroit Metal City.
report Recommended by 97pgg
Both are music anime about guys who want to play music they like. While Detroit Metal City is about metal, Bakumatsu Rock is about Rock.
