The genre for both is "pop idol". However, they both have action and sci-fi added in. Both Anime use bright colors and detailed art work. They also break from the norm.

Both fighting with the power of songs. Although macross is more set into space then Senki
report Recommended by jinamoja
The main character in the series is very naive about the way the world works. The colors are bright and the creatures styles are not normal. The costume designs on the magical girl outfits are also quite elaborate.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
GAR girls, fanservice, and over-the-top action describe both series perfectly.
report Recommended by ZettaiRyouiki
Cute girls transform and fight. Similar tone, themes, some leaning into mecha. The main difference is Nanoha relies a bit more on it's drama and Symphogear has more action and plot twists. And I guess that symphs sing when they fight but that's a superficial difference. I'd be shocked if somebody liked one and disliked the other.
report Recommended by Arboria
Both shows have a joke-level "sci-fi" setting, which looks more like military mahou-shoujo. Both shows are focused on girl's friendship, befriending enemies and some shitty drama. The funny thing is that if Symphogear feels like a third-rate clone of Nanoha, than Vividred Operation feels like a second-rate clone of Symphogear. A profanation of the genre.

- cute girls fighting with the power of music - eldritch, hostile entities - cartoonish villain summons eldritch entities to crash the public event and commit a terrorist attack - MC's close friend dies at the start and is being replaced by a dorky girl. MC struggles to accept her. - MC using his/her power hurts him/her physically - very good visuals, average at best writing
report Recommended by Piromysl
Both series focus around a main character who is very strong a justice and embodies a hero. Both Hibiki and Yuna also have a pretty obvious lesbian relationship Yuna and Togo with Hibiki and Miku. Yuna and Hibiki basically have the same personality so if you're watching it for the main character you'll love either series. They're both magical girl anime that focus more on serious stories but at the same time know how to have fun.
report Recommended by DarknessReality
They both share the same element, atmosphere, and other similiarity.
report Recommended by TPatrioticOtaku
Crazy over-the-top action and heavy themes of friendship and hope.
report Recommended by ninryu
Similar art style. Both anime feature a female protagonist and use singing as a way to activate their powers.
report Recommended by Zanos1
People compare Gen'ei to Madoka, but honestly, it reminds me more of Symphogear. Cute girls with cute character designs must fight evil beings that live in their world. Both are more violent than the premise and art would suggest. The plot is much closer to sci-fi/fantasy than "magical girl".
report Recommended by tigerfire310
Both anime feature girls who sing to unleash power and battle. In VPC, the characters are all idols, while only some characters are idols in the Symphogear series.
report Recommended by Noodle070
Both begin with the ending, and the whole story afterward is a sort of flashback. Similar concept: a secret organization fighting against monsters, a team composed by two girls which have a friends-enemies relationship, lots of deaths and sad moments, due the troubled mind of the protagonists.
report Recommended by SanzuNoKawa
Both involve epic action with young girls fighting using powers. Both involve tragedy and have that feeling of Sci-fi. Drama is also involved in the plot.
report Recommended by Stark700
The main heroine is “dumb”. Well, dumb isn't the best way to describe them... it's more along the lines of a nativity on the part of the characters. They go about life not putting much thought into things beyond the fact they want to be friends with the people that they meet. They're hot headed and get into the middle of things without realizing it, a trait normally associated with male characters from shonen series, not female characters. In addition to this there is the mecha gear that both girls end up having as well as the other characters with in the series. They pretty much  read more

The Lyrical Nanoha franchise and Symphgear franchise runs the same heritage and vibes. Mecha-ish henshin heroine, glorious fights, and indomitable determination of a powerful female protagonist. The script writer of Symphogear also assisted in working on the two PSP games of Nanoha.
report Recommended by TYxTxYT
While both series have completely different premises, both are almost identical in any other aspect. Both have bland and boring Mary Sue protagonist, who excels at literally everything despite barely having any expertise or training and exhausts all potential for character development by the end of 1st arc, have amazing visuals at the cost of lazy writing and poor cast of characters, tries to tell some deep story, but fails miserably at this and are seasonal, but still long running. In short: If you loved SAO, you'll love Symphogear. But if you hated SAO, you'll hate Symphogear as well.
report Recommended by Piromysl
Both anime have intense action involving girls who fight using big, flashy attacks. They also share ideas from mecha and magical girl shows
report Recommended by Noodle070
Symphogear and Zettai Seigi Love Pheromone are both magical girl style shows with more inspiration from sci-fi/mecha than fantasy. The characters in Symphogear are idols and use singing to give them power, while the characters in Love Pheromone want to be famous comedians
report Recommended by Noodle070
This is my first recommendation Both are alike in terms of plot (armored girls with weapons) , but there is a difference , in Ore twintails there's gender bender , nevertheless Ore ,twin tails have comedy unlike Symphogear. Thanks for reading.
report Recommended by Frike33
Almost the same thing. Bunch of teenage girls are fighting hostile entities with the combined power of magic, technology and power of friendship. Mandatory yuri bait. Also, two main girls, their backstories, design and personalities are nearly identical.
report Recommended by Piromysl
The both have swords so ... nah, all jokes aside watch both of these, since they both depict good relationship between the girls and both are very engaging , even if that's for different reasons.
report Recommended by Ignisalge
Dumb fun that keeps you entertained like no other series.
report Recommended by Ignisalge
Sci-fi elements, a cast of strong female characters fight an otherwise invincible army of monsters that turn people into dust. The characters are deep, complex and emotionally invested in the conflict. The main protagonist may have a hidden nature deep inside.
report Recommended by Sonuto
Dumb fun that keeps you entertained like no other series. Both shows get start off with a and with cliffhanger that foreshadows later events.
report Recommended by SpeedRoidGenm
Both involve "idol" music and the characters sing when they are fighting. There are differences, as one is moreso mech based while the other is stage girl based, but if you are looking for more music related anime, then def check each other out.

teenagers can transform into a gearlike outfit. They battle evil to help the city.
report Recommended by DevilDash
If you're looking for series with great production values and excellent story, along with pumped-up action sequences, then these two are right for you! The main characters, Academia's Izuku and Symphogear's Hibiki, strive to be heroes and are selfless enough to try to help their enemies' personal and emotional problems at the risk of their own safety. One cannot just help but root them on and follow them on their [worthwhile] hero's journey.
report Recommended by DKWorks
Creative spins on idols. The music and performances are both strong in their own rights for both. Zombieland Saga parodies the more traditional side and takes a more comedic tone, while Symphogear leans into its action
report Recommended by 5hadow17
Both anime took place in future where, Our mc, Are just "normal" girls who live changed they get some powers which those two use to fight againts bad guys. Both anime are Idol anime which also combine action & sci-fi genre. I recommend both if you enjoy action with lots of singing
report Recommended by Ahmad2345
A group of girls who at first didn't get along, fighting the Noise which is a otherworldly monster. They have to handle the Noise while fighting those who want to take over the world and end it. Tachibana is just like Kanami, optimistic girls who love to fight and will not let their friends go through it alone. Tsubasa is the exact same character (in terms of personality) as Hiyori.
report Recommended by Aspirants
So, you like Idols? - good You like singing? - good You also like action a bit more than Love Live offers? - Well thats good! Because I got the idol lesbian singing magical girl Anime for you! Watch it, because it is good.
report Recommended by Chazoe
I can't really say I understood the story of these titles. But I enjoyed them both for similar reasons. The kind hearted and somewhat dumb protagonists are maybe somewhat cliché. But the crazy megalomaniac antagonists were pretty fun. And I loved the action scenes. Where a man can dry the sea by a beat of his fist (Sengoku Basara) or a woman can pull a part of the moon toward the earth surface with a chain (Symphogear)... I'm loving it I recommend these titles for some nonsensical over the top action.
report Recommended by Estefan
Overpowered main character. Absolutely ridiculous and over-the-top fight scenes, with plenty of budget and explosions. Entertaining and diverse characters. Solid comedy amidst the action. Main character punches things and they die in glorious fashions.

Girls,transforms, colorful graphic...

Similar genres, both are magical girl shows

Cute girls transform and fight stuff. Enormous amounts of fan service and action. A mecha flare. BANG BANG BAM *butt shot* TATATATATATATATA *boob shot* BOOM

Plots, animation, and characters have many ups and downs throughout the series. They have similar large-scale endings (though Gurren Lagann to a much more extreme degree). Characters must cope with losses, decide which side they are on, and work together in order to defeat a powerful enemy. Whereas Gurren Lagann has mechs, Symphagear has a sci-fi battle armor.
report Recommended by Asfaria
Both anime uses songs sung on the battlefield to overpower their enemy and also giving hope to those that need it the most. Both series are great and uses very unique array of futuristic weapons with outstanding art visuals.
report Recommended by orbbie
Both series have humans who are able to transform themselves with extraterrestrial powers and fight off evil. The alien monsters encountered in Symphogear can be the same applied as being viruses as well in this Rockman series.
report Recommended by GigaSPX
Both these anime are similar in a way of how some characters interact each other in a way. They also both feature girls transforming and fighting, however Natsuiro Drops contains much more of an innocent feel to it. Lastly, the main characters in both series has a best friend who usually just stands in the background of the fighting, but tries to support them to the best of their abilities.
report Recommended by Rayn3698
Whenever I watched this anime I always think of Symphogear. Both anime overall have the same feel to it.
report Recommended by Rayn3698
And the second part, Sayonara no Tsubasa, look very similar - 2 girls fight monsters with music. Macross Frontire is part of a larger universe, so Symphogear, after the first episode, looks like a lighter version.
report Recommended by GomenidAC
1: Both series deal with having special powers. 2: The protagonists Koyomi and Hibiki are very similar, they are clumsy and willing to help others. 3: The creatures they fight are similar too. 4: Tsubasa is a bit like Yumiko. 5: And they also both have action and drama and give importance in human relationships.
report Recommended by Faylicia
As with the first installment, the second in the Polyphonica series relates to Symphogear in the music department. Both series use music as their source of power to fight.
report Recommended by foxrain
How is this not similar to Senki Zesshou Symphogear? GATs: Ch-Chck! Alien DeBAUCHERY -> -Run FoR yOUR LiFEE!!! Hot MECH SUITS: FUKYEA First Class LOLIS: *licks lips* <3 InTENSE Action: -tightens seatbelt- It's gonna get rough in here. LOL -shot- No, but seriously, it's a crime to not watch either one of these if you like any of the above mentioned.

They are fighting evil with singing. They also have live shows in both animes.
report Recommended by morgankakashi
Magical girls that fight like mecha and are badass and awesome. Enough said.
report Recommended by ZettaiRyouiki
Similar robes design and transformations, the overall atmosphere is the same.
report Recommended by insoo
Both animes use music, singers and idols as a way to fight in the world that they are living in, whether it is to survive or for power/hope.
report Recommended by MagicFlier
Both series faces off against an alien race that threatens humans lives with two female protagonists fighting against them. (SCI-FI) Total Eclipse has the Tactical Surface Fighters to stop the BETA, and Senki Zesshou Symphogear has the Symphogear to stop the Noise. Senki Z also has a great soundtrack and the two protagonists for both series are fated to fight with each other.
report Recommended by Satsuyo
In Gundam 00, the crew all have a secret identity. Whereas in Senki Zesshou Symphogear also have a secret identity. Also about protecting the world.
report Recommended by Akito2012
Both have body armor/mechs that girls can pilot. Also, the armor doesn't completely cover their bodies.
report Recommended by Moonsolol
Both sing to fight the enemy. The difference is that mermaid melody is more childish that senki.
report Recommended by minimiau
- Have transformation scene - MC fighting using unique armor - Antagonists have the same power with MC
report Recommended by SSSS_Shunaria
A strong female-lead who have mission to protect humanity from dangerous enemies using a unique power suit. This power suit become their main weapon with different ability and function. Also some character have same personality : - Leader type (Kazanari Tsubasa - Stingray Sylia) - Badgirl (Yukine Chris - Asagiri Priscilla) - Timing Girl (Tachibana Hibiki - Romanova Nene)
report Recommended by SSSS_Shunaria
Similarity : - Have transformation scene - MC fighting using unique armor - MC is school student Different : - Accel World set in Virtual world / Symphogear set in real world - In Accel World MC not require specific item to access his skill / In Symphogear MC must singing a song to activate his ability
report Recommended by SSSS_Shunaria
They both are about girls who acquire magical powers and use these powers to fight monsters. Mai-hime has a much larger character cast though and is more about magic and mecha monsters as power whereas Symphogear is about music and has more science fiction. Mai-Hime is much stronger all around, but they are still similar in many ways.
report Recommended by Asfaria
a lot of people might not find much or even any similarities in the two anime. but for me, the anime that pops out first in my mind is either kill la kill or SSSS.Gridman. of course, gridman and kill la kill directed by amemiya sensei is the thing. but gridman eventually shows itself to include a villain with twisted personality which psychologically has the same feeling with Symphogear. The style and manual drawing which is harder to find these days especially in the fighting part also resemble each other.
report Recommended by sora2eugene
In rockman, the characters uses data chips to upgrade and attack. In Senki Zesshou, the characters uses songs to get battle ready and attacks.
report Recommended by boydsta
It would seem strange to compare these two anime but having watched Senki Zesshou Symphogear first, an instant recognition would be in the names Hibiki and Kanade. These could also be connected through the themes of music and song. Otherwise you could also consider them as mahou shoujo genre therefore, this could be a recommendation for those who like music themed animes.
report Recommended by Kurousagi-
Both shows fall into the 'Mecha Musume' genre of armored girls fighting, and although Busou Shinki plays it straight with robots and science rather magical powers if you are fans of girls in armor you might like Busou Shinki.
report Recommended by YuanMori
Both shows look like a experiment that gone wrong in some aspects, but the it achieves some unexpected memorable results, in a good way.
report Recommended by jpmc
Both shows are so ridiculous and terrible that they cross into the point of greatness.
report Recommended by noteventhrice
Symphogear is MUCH lighter, but they share some similarities: - Top secret organization defending mankind - HQ deep underground - HQ hosting something valuable that the enemy is pursuing - Mechasuits (sort of) that only some people can synchronize with - International conflicts - Religious/Bible related themes - A girl who's the strong, silent type who refuses to work with the main character at first, and who've been doing their duty for a longer time and been hurt alot (Tsubasa vs Rei) - A scientist obsessed with getting someone to notice them - A mysterious threat which no conventional weapons can affect
